Anyone doing it and can give tips please? I know it's where you only eat in an 8 hour window but wondered if there's anything else I should know?

Good idea! Just strike it off as totally didn't happen!! Biscuits?? What biscuits??

Donteatthekidssweets · 04/02/2018 12:17

Hi anybody still on this thread? I started this in January and lost 4lbs, managed to put some on last weekend on a girls weekend away but am back on it now. Seems to work for me, I can’t do the full 16 hrs at the moment but am working on it and monitoring my calories with MyFitnessPal as well. Been trying out loose a stone for over a year and could really do to loose more Blush.

ELR · 04/02/2018 19:12

I'm still here, think there are only a handful of us but that's enough 😁
I've lost 5.5lb since Christmas. Really just sticking to my eating window still enjoying treats and booze. I find this way if eating helps to curb my appetite and I feel much fuller much quicker.

AromaticSpices · 05/02/2018 10:11

Hello! I have been reading up on 16:8 and reading your thread and would love to join.

I’m almost at the end of my first 16 hours; finished eating with the kids last night at 6pm so my 16 hours ended at 10am. But I will be eating later tonight, so do I hold off breaking my fast until I know my 8 hour window can start? I’ll probably finish eating at 8 tonight, so I’d have to have my lunch today at 12. Or is the most important thing the fasting hours, rather than the eating window?

Does that make sense to anyone other than me?!

TheWizardofWas · 05/02/2018 13:35

it is the fasting hours not the eating window, I believe.

ELR · 05/02/2018 15:28

Yes the fasting hours so it would be tomorrow you need to break your fast at 12pm if you are eating untill 8pm tonight.
Good luck & welcome x

Joskar · 05/02/2018 17:00

Lost another 2lbs!

Hurrah!

That's 6 in three weeks.

Pleased with that.

AromaticSpices · 06/02/2018 12:14

Thanks TheWizardofWas and ELR! My first day went well and I'm just about to break my second fast. Have to say I'm enjoying this so far. Will weigh tomorrow and see if it's had any impact. My tummy already feels much less bloated and a little flatter

Well done Joskar!

Eolian · 06/02/2018 12:50

I'm still here too! I've been skipping breakfast for about a week and a half and feel a little lighter already. At first I found I had a tendency to want to eat a bigger lunch than normal, but that seems to be fading now. I don't want to introduce a load of other restrictions, because it will make me fall off the waggon, but I'm trying to avoid sugary stuff too (except for one treat at the weekend).

Joskar · 06/02/2018 23:31

I'm doing more like 18:6 these days. Is that ok do you think? Will it have an impact on the weight loss?

AromaticSpices · 07/02/2018 10:56

I think the longer you fast for the better, Joskar, in general, but I'm not totally sure.

I listened to an hour-long interview with Jason Fung on YouTube this morning and it's inspired me to do a longer fast, one or two full days. Has anyone here done that? Also earlier in the thread someone recommended something on the BBC about fasting but I can't find the reference, and I can't find it on the iplayer either - can anyone point me in the right direction?

Although the YouTube interview was informative it was a lot more general, about fasting as a principle and the physiological changes/hormones and how insulin reacts, I want to know the cold hard facts about the 16:8 diet specifically.

In the interview though Dr Fung mentioned a Scottish man who holds the world record for fasting - he managed 400 days on no food at all, just water, tea, coffee, soda water and a multivitamin. He had that much body fat to use as fuel, he lost 21st! Incredible. Think it's this bloke: www.eveningtelegraph.co.uk/fp/tale-angus-barbieri-fasted-year-lost-21-stone/

Fortysix · 07/02/2018 16:50

Think of the money that bloke must have saved on food...

AromaticSpices · 08/02/2018 09:23

Imagine Fortysix!

I've weighed myself for three days running and not lost a single thing. I've been eating way less than normal and doing exercise while fasted (averaging 16/7 hours each day). Am I eating too little? Or should I just be more patient?

For example yesterday I ate some leftover sausage and bean casserole with couscous (medium/large ish portion) after the gym at 2:15pm, and then nothing until dinner which was lamb biryani with loads of spinach and mushrooms (I made it myself, not a takeaway) at 8:30pm. I drank 2l of water and two cups of tea with milk (ss), one black coffee, and a herbal tea. One of these teas was during my fast but I only have a small splash of milk.

The day before this I had a jacket potato with cheese and beans (a normal lunch for me, but was too filling - I finished it but felt v full all afternoon) and dinner was small portion of spaghetti with tomato puree/grilled haloumi and mint (Cypriot recipe which tastes way nicer than it sounds) with some runner beans. Just under 2l of water, two herbal teas.

Am I doing it right? I am feeling much better in myself, I am not hungry until sometimes past lunchtime, I have more energy (even in my gym class yesterday which was a revelation) and my tummy feels a little flatter; I am way less bloated. So all positives but I would like to see some action on the scales...

Fortysix · 08/02/2018 10:00

Aromatic You're doing it perfectly! It will all happen. Often my pattern when losing in the first phase was 3 days the same weight then down on day 4... If it's not going in then it will be coming off...Grin

AromaticSpices · 08/02/2018 11:20

Fab that's great to hear, thanks Fortysix!

SarahBeeney · 08/02/2018 13:35

Aromatic The fasting programme is one of the 'Horizon' episodes on the iPlayer.

If anyone didn't see The Truth about Getting Fit on the BBC then I urge you to watch it!!

Donteatthekidssweets · 09/02/2018 06:37

It’s coming off very slowly, now lost the weight that I put back on a couple of weeks ago - so annoying that it takes two weeks to loose and 2 days to put on. I’m still working up to the full 16 hr fast, I don’t make it if for example I’m going out to eat as I would then have to have breakfast at 1pm and I can’t wait that long! Is everybody else managing this ?

Donteatthekidssweets · 09/02/2018 06:41

Have to also say that I am pleased it is actually working even if very slowly. It does seem sustainable which is fab for me as nothing else seems to work and I’ve tried everything.

AromaticSpices · 09/02/2018 11:20

Well this morning's weigh in revealed a staggering 0.1kg loss!!? In 5 days. Argh. Will keep going.

Donteatthekidssweets are you drinking lots? That helps me through. I usually finish eating usually 8:3-/9pm every night (hour commute and two kids to put to bed) and I find I can last until 12:30/1 reasonably easily, water helps me, and coffee. Do you usually eat dinner earlier?

What do people do about nights out? I'm out for drinks tonight; I don't go out often but this is my best friend's birthday at a gin cocktail place. I will eat before I go out which will be earlier than my normal dinner time so hopefully I can eat from about 10/11am tomorow to save my hangover. But what do I drink? Stay away from sugary cocktails presumably? Gin and some sort of fancy tonic?

AromaticSpices · 09/02/2018 11:20

Thanks SarahBeeney for the Horizon recommendation, I started it last night and it's good!

Joskar · 11/02/2018 23:38

Put 2 lbs on.

So annoyed. Have massively reduced carbs and sugar and have been doing a fair bit of physical activity. Eating loads of veg. Plenty water/herbal tea. Keeping a food diary. Avoiding most snacks. Breastfeeding a 4 month old baby. 18:6 on the eating. This is week 4.

Wk 1 = minus five
Wk 2 = plus one
Wk 3 = minus two
Wk 4 = plus two

So I'm 4lbs lighter than when I started which is good but not great given my eating habits.

What do I need to do? I must, must, must lose weight. I have to! This is so shit. Feeling really despondent.

ELR · 12/02/2018 07:54

joskar just keep going 4lbs in 4 weeks is brilliant.
The increase of 2lbs this week is unlikely to stick, a lot of that 4lbs you lost in the first week will of been water and not real fat loss.
I tend to do the same and follow an up down pattern but the over all trend is down.
Why the massive reduction in carbs? Sugar yes and less carbs but really no need to reduce massively especially if you are breast feeding. You said you must must must loose weight and you will but slow and steady wins the race. Keep up the good work!

SarahBeeney · 18/02/2018 00:42

Joskar I know it's so disheartening when you don't see a loss on the scales.

Are you measuring yourself as well?

I lose more if I do one or two whole day fasts (roughly 24 hours) so I only have one meal a day.

Joskar · 18/02/2018 09:08

I weighed the following day and I'd lost 4lbs! Haven't weighed today as am not at home.

I've now done my measurements and I'll keep an eye on them too.

On holiday with my sil at the moment and she's gone no sugar and lost loads. She's doing for health reasons (healthy gut etc) but she looks well on it. It seems like a fairly miserable existence to me though. I like to be able to have a slice of cake if I want!

Fortysix · 23/02/2018 10:50

Still here... plodding along... still haven't shifted the 2 kg I put on in January ... for a while I was 3 kg up but have tried to steady the ship.

All down to grazing at night and not sticking to my 8.00 pm curfew.
One good discovery... Lidl's now doing Avozillas in the children's fruit & veg range... baby avocados which are a perfect size for lunch with one egg scrambled egg.

Joshar, Sarah, ELR, Don't, Aromatic, Eloian ... how are you getting on?
