If he's on insulin then it's quite likely that he isn't eating the calories oblo but the insulin just makes every calorie stick. I think it's lovely that you have each other to support you.

Day 10 i have somehow managed to rack up 919 calories today Blush Up until today I've been around the 650-700 cals a day point. One day over isn't going to hurt too much is it? I'm hoping if I still average 800 over this week I should be OK x

Oblomov17 · 05/06/2017 20:08

Oh and Bear, those irritating skinny bitches, or people who lose weight by cutting down on one roast potato... or who lose 1/2 a stone by cutting back on the beer....they are a pain-in-the-arse, aren't they?

Come the revolution. They have to die......

JigglyTuff · 05/06/2017 20:12

Hello lovely people

Can I join you please? I've just come back from holiday where I ate baguettes and fougasses and patisserie every day and I have got very fat. Not just from that but it didn't help.

I've been doing 5:2 on and off for a couple of years but I just pig out on the off days so I need to develop new eating habits rather than the starve/binge cycle I've been doing.

I bought the book today (am actually fasting today) and will weigh/measure etc in the morning. I've just read this thread through and am feeling hugely inspired by all your stories.

Question: do any of you do the mindfulness stuff that MM recommends in the book?

tobee · 05/06/2017 20:18

Do those people actually exist? I think people who say that are lying. Having said that my Dh is under weight. He's quite happy to have put on 10kg in the last 5 years because he lost weight at the beginning of an illness. But he's never had a problem with weight, never dieted. All of the rest of his family are/were normal to large. He doesn't really understand diet but is very supportive of me. Although this morning I triumphantly said "guess how much a lost this week?" (Stupid question) and he said 4 lbs and I had to say "no, three". Tail between legs. Grin

tobee · 05/06/2017 20:20

Was referring to oblomov's post btw

PhyllisWig · 05/06/2017 20:55

Can I join too? Lost a big chunk of weight a couple of years ago but a few pounds are creeping back and my habits haven't changed as much as I'd hoped - my name is Phyllis and I am a cake binger ;)

I have a few health niggles and a dreadful family history of type 2 diabetes so I'm looking at this as a health holiday and opportunity to reset a few things.

I've used mfp for years so am all ready to go. I've planned this weeks food and shopped, boiled up a vat of eggs and had a weekend eating crap in preparation.

My main concern is that I don't eat meat. I eat fish (especially salmon and seafood) but eggs look to feature heavily!

tobee · 05/06/2017 21:26

Hi Phyllis! I think of you fish you'll be fine.

tobee · 05/06/2017 21:26

What? Must proof read my posts! If you eat fish that should say. Blush

Ojoj1974 · 05/06/2017 22:05

JigglyTuff I started the 8 week BSD today .i have gained so much weight over the past few years and need to lose 4 stone.... we are just back from a week in France where I ate far too much French crap and now feel horrendous. However, day 1 has been good. Delicious lettuce cups with chicken, walnuts apples and celery for lunch and really tasty lamb and pinenut meatballs for supper.
I have downloaded the headspace app but I haven't used it yet

JigglyTuff · 05/06/2017 22:42

We can be buddies together Phyllis and Ojoj! That food sounds lovely Ojoj - those recipes are in the book aren't they?

I've told myself for years that I've gained 2 stone but I suspect it's nearer 3. Or perhaps even 4. The scales will tell me tomorrow. Shock

Ojoj1974 · 05/06/2017 22:52

JigglyTuff And Phyllis yes please!
Yes the recipes are in the book. Tomorrow I've made the chicken, butter bean salad for lunch. Smells gorgeous.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 05/06/2017 23:07

Recipes we love from the book, veggies:

Skinny chilli made with soya mince - makes a mountain of portions and freezes really well

The ginger pork stir fry but made with tofu instead

Warm halloumi salad (I don't bother putting it on skewers, I just shove it under the grill in a pan) served with quorn 'chicken' fillets with the basil and pine nut topping

Spicy lentil 'chicken' - again with quorn fillets

Veg frittata

Mexican hash

Beetroot and cannellini (sp?) bean soup

Other meals we have - fajitas (tofu again - forego the wraps and it's low calorie), lentil bolognese with portobello mushrooms instead of spaghetti, veg lasagna with butternut squash sheets in place of pasta, veg sausage casserole with mushrooms again instead of mash

Really enjoying

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 05/06/2017 23:07

As veggies* that should say!

Flibbertyjibbit · 05/06/2017 23:31

Hi Phyliis and Ojoj

PhyllisWig · 06/06/2017 07:25

Ginger, those ideas look lovely thank you. I am a keen tofu fan so will definitely try a couple of those. Less of a pulse fan tbh - dont mind lentils but that's it.

I was concerned some of the 'substitute' foods like quorn or veggies sausages were a bit carby but a veggie fry up of sausages, poached egg, mushrooms and roasted tomatoes is a brunch of champions for v little calories.

PhyllisWig · 06/06/2017 07:52

Well that wasn't good!

My starting weight is 11 9.5

I suspect this will naturally go down quickly as it always does when I go from 'bad' to normal - this time last week I was 11 4 so I hope much of that is just bad food bloat.

However, my usual weight used to be 10 12 and my heavy weight 11 2 so definitely some work to do. Ideally I'd get below 10 7 (still slightly overweight for my height but likely to be more sustainable)

PinkBlossomTree · 06/06/2017 08:03

Don't worry Phyllis, start of a new chapter and you will not see that weight again!

I was suffering something terrible last night with bloated stomach it's done something strange. I'm on the merina coil and haven't had time of the month for years until now. So that's really odd. Waiting for a whoosh when it goes as I am renouned for holding quite a bit of water weight.

I calculated my cals yesterday to be 800. Had smoked salmon trimmings, egg and pre packed leaf salad for tea but end up chucking a lot of it away. The salad was awful it had some type of leaf in it I didn't like and the salmon was full of bones I couldn't pick out.

JigglyTuff · 06/06/2017 09:06

Yep, nearer 4 than 2. The only way must be down. For my health if nothing else!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/06/2017 12:19

Jiggly at least now you know, and just think- this is the biggest number you'll ever see. You'll be smaller by tomorrow, and every day after that!

I'm feeling rough today, I have the lurgy. Made some lovely chicken broth with loads of garlic, lemon, spinach and a can of cannellini beans whizzed up in the blender and it was delicious! Not sure how to calorie count homemade stock though, so trusted my calorie app. Hopefully will give me a much needed vitamin boost!

I've started a little thread in the 5:2 section to track my 7.5 weeks of round 3, each day I'm going to post my food and my totals for cals/carbs/exercise so I have a little record of it at the end.

Bringmewineandcake · 06/06/2017 13:44

I had a bad day yesterday and absolutely felt it Blush started well with eggs for breakfast but as I had run out of all my staples I ended up having a couple of small sandwiches, a samosa and a small slice of cake for lunch. Dinner was a ready meal with rice and it made me feel horrendous! 3 weeks of healthy eating really shows.
I'm 1lb up on my weigh in from Saturday so will have to get that off and then some.

Flibbertyjibbit · 06/06/2017 16:55

I'm keep a record in an excel sheet, it is probably too much data but I like playing around with graphs and trend lines yes I am a geek

Anyone else weighing themselves daily? I have for the last 11 days, not sure if its a good idea. Up until yesterday it was decreasing slightly each day but I have stayed the same today.

Hope you feel better soon thenewaveragebear1983

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/06/2017 17:06

Flibberty I used to weigh myself daily, and still will sometimes, but I find it can massively affect my will power- either because I haven't lost (so sod it!) or because I have (so I feel I can cheat)- I find a twice weekly weigh in can be best for me.

Love the idea of a spreadsheet, maybe a PowerPoint with some graphs on.....need to actually have a few good days first!!

OP posts:
Flightywoman · 06/06/2017 17:59

I weigh myself daily - first thing in the morning. I like to know what I'm dealing with!

PinkBlossomTree · 06/06/2017 18:17

My I weigh daily too. Find it motivating.
I log my weight daily and what I've eaten with cals just on my phone notes. Can keep a eye on what works and what doesn't.

Every day for the first week I lost. But ATM I'm staying still and it's pushing me to do more. I got a workout in today with hope it may shift tomorrow.

Love seeing the graph on my weight app.

Normally I wouldn't but being on 5:2 for so long I got into the habit of doing it. It's when I'm not weighing my problems seem to start with overeating.
