Thank you Pink, and yes a definite boost. I don't ever want to see Friday's weight (or today's) on the scales again!! Apart from the headache I do feel better already. I had a black coffee today and it was fine. I managed to avoid cake and everything at a playbarn and I'm sure McDonalds drive thru are missing my business already!! My family are very active sorts and I have been a great taxi driver, drinking coffee and eating whatever while they do their thing. I need to join in now. Best wishes to you all with your iron wills in half term Smile

Flibbertyjibbit · 30/05/2017 21:20

I googled carb flu, sounds like that is likely. I've also been very snappy/grumpy today. Not usually snappy at DP so thinking I'm definitely struggling. But I've made another day, 756cals today yay!

Flibbertyjibbit · 30/05/2017 21:21

Oops forgot to say welcome Perdy

Perdyboo · 30/05/2017 23:10

Cheers Flibberty - and well done on your day!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 30/05/2017 23:34

Welcome to all the new posters
We were away for the weekend and we have a family birthday this week, a lunch with friends and a night out. Last week I averaged 800 cals. I think it's unlikely I'll manage the same this week Wink

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/05/2017 06:54

Good morning!
Still lurking from my holidays and thought I'd check in!
I'm still being relatively good. Most meals on plan, no snacks in between. Still no sugar/ice cream/cake! (That's totally amazing for me. I have had quite a few drinks and have the headache this morning to prove it.

Yesterday evening I had my first carbs of the week, with fish and chips on the harbour while the kids all crab fished, but even then it was planned and I felt really in control of it.

Going walking today in a big country park, so lots of steps. Picnic salad lunch, then bbq tea so again should be ok. I just need to drink more water and less wine as I've not been keeping well hydrated.

Welcome newbies, I have been keeping up with all the news on the thread but will reread when I get home

Keep with it fiberty your doing great.

Omg bear fish and chips my weakness always order this as my treat when we go out.

We're going for a meal out on Friday. I've looked at lots of menus. Lots of the places near us are family home cooked meals no salad in sight so I've decided on a chain.
They do a salad with chicken or steak but don't fancy that as we have a steak once a week.

Found they do 2 chicken skewers on a bed of peppers will opt for a big salad and no sides. It comes with a tiny bit of calslaw looks to be a table spoon full and will ask for the chicken Maranade on the side. I thought that would be a good choice over a chicken breast as my head says if it's cut up on skewer it may be smaller than a breast. I dunno what you think?

Managed to find allergy info but no calorie info anywhere?

I've got a party week after next and I really would love to be 5lbs lighter (same weight I saw all my friends last year) so no one notices I've piled on the pounds and lost it again.

Just because I don't know if anyone else finds this, as soon as you loose weight every man woman and dog has a opinion on it.

Flightywoman · 31/05/2017 11:03

Welcome new people, from this still relatively new person!

OMG, the opinions Pink! And the attempts to get you to have a biscuit or something. It drives me mad.

I'm doing this for me, it's not a single atom of reflection on anyone else, because TBH I couldn't care less what people at work do about their diets. But sure as hell someone will chirp up with some skewed view and that's it. They all pipe up like baby birds!

Ahem!

I did pretty well yesterday, had a ryvita thin late on.

I must get something out of the freezer for tonight, and plan the day.

I started at 17.13 3/4. I am now 16.12 1/2. And going down!

pico1 · 31/05/2017 11:23

Great to see lots of new people following this! Whoever said to take it a day at a time is really very wise. Yesterday was a turning point for me as the brain-fog lifted! I'm still hungry between meals but it's manageable. Am sticking to eggs with a bit of feta for breakfast, chunky soup/veggie curry for lunch and protein with salad/green veggies for dinner. Have had an emergency rice cake twice this week which isn't ideal because of the carb content but they do the job. Had only intended to do this for a week and then switch to alternate day or 5:2 but I might take a break for the weekend and do another week. May invest in the recipe book as I can see myself running out of ideas real soon!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/05/2017 11:32

Oh my, the opinions! My two personal favourites are: you shouldn't cut out whole food groups (errr. I'm not. Carbohydrate isn't a food group) and everything in moderation yada yada (well, sugar has zero nutritional value, only calories so I can still have every nutritional element in moderation and avoid sugar)
I have found while being away that by very clearly explaining the 5 foods I won't be eating, it has made me more focused because I don't want to fail publicly, and it's also made the others be less inclined to eat/buy junk because 'bear's being healthy so we should too'

Don't even get me started on the 'you're not fat' patronising lies chat, the 'you've had three children though' so has Victoria beckham and the 'you look like you've lost weight' (I haven't. I really haven't) - I get it all the time from dh's naturally thin family and it makes seethe!

Bringmewineandcake · 31/05/2017 18:34

Bear do you remember telling me that some recipes are just "out"? I've just input the Spanish soup into MFP and it came out a whopping 449 cals vs the 210 in the book! Angry how can they be so different? It's really annoying as my count was v v low for today, I was going to have some fruit after dinner but now I'm virtually at 800 using the MFP figures.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 31/05/2017 18:40

I've finally made managed an 800 day. Keep losing the will and ending up overshooting. Still staying around 1200 for the most part so not a disaster but have a family wedding in 6 weeks so Need. To. Focus! Weekend of overindulgence now behind me so onwards to the next weekend!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/05/2017 20:44

Bring I do indeed. Somehow though, if you follow the menu plans, they must be properly balanced because people still lose weight well on them, but yes they are definitely out. As you've found, not even slight margin of error out, but proper out!!

It's my little niece's birthday today so I have had an ice cream on our day out and a piece of fudge. Back to business tomorrow!

Perdyboo · 31/05/2017 22:20

Omg flighty, that's grand weightloss!! I only ever rattle pans to cook once in a while but, in light of it being half term, hubby decided tonight was the night - so I cooked salad!! Actually it was very yum (goat's cheese, bacon and avocado) and I got the recipe off that diet doctor low carb website. Not quite sure of the calories but seeing as we all agree the book is out,(and the avocado was pretty inedible) I figured 7g carb would be ok. I had that bircher thing for breakfast (raisins soaked in apple juice then mixed with flaxseeds and yoghurt - surprisingly yum). I have raisins soaking to mix some up to take to work tomorrow and boxed up extra salad for me and himself's lunches. Trying to be organised. We have visitors arriving tomorrow for a few days so need to plan!! PS headache is gone!!! So happy Smile

Bringmewineandcake · 31/05/2017 23:14

I liked the bircher too, Perdy. My breakfast most mornings is some variation of yogurt with either raisins/pomegranate seeds/passion fruit, and flaked almonds or flaxseeds.

hoopdeloop · 01/06/2017 06:53

Good morning peeps, I have ordered the blood sugar diet book and the recipe book and they should arrive at some point today. I lost about 10kg by following calorie controlled and using my Fitbit but have plateaued. Hoping this will restart the weight loss, I have 2 hen dos this month and go on holiday with family at the start of July so would like to look good and not a beached whale!

I've not RTFT, but can anyone recommend a breakfast that you would be allowed on the first day? I would like to start today, regardless of the book's arrival time

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/06/2017 08:19

Morning hoop
For breakfast I like either Greek yoghurt and berries, or I'll have a little platter of cold meat, cheese, olives. Or just good old bacon and egg?

Feel rough today, full of cold and hungover! Also as I had my first taste of carbs for a whole week last night, I feel all bloated as well. Off to Bournemouth beach today, last day of our holiday. I'm looking forward to getting home!

tobee · 01/06/2017 13:04

So today I'm 3 1/2 weeks in and the scales say I'm 1 1/2 pounds down so far this week. Is it weird that I can't imagine not doing this diet now? It's not that I don't have little flash cards of Chinese takeaway or bread and jam pop into my brain now and then, it's just that it seems simple to follow, and makes me feel safe iyswim. The idea of doing something else; gradually reintroducing carbs or Mediterranean diet seems fraught with danger! Grin I'm not losing gazillions of weight like some but the fact I'm losing any is amazing to me. Maybe I'm slightly addicted?

Bringmewineandcake · 01/06/2017 17:00

Me too tobee!! I like the structure and discipline of the diet and am also terrified of moving into a maintenance phase. I intend to move onto 5:2 afterwards so I suppose once I start reading that book I might feel a bit more reassured.

Perdyboo · 01/06/2017 17:08

Though I am really only 6 days into this, can I agree I like the structure? I would like to see the kind of results Scandi has had - really inspirational, and all you others that have shared your stories. Thanks again.
I survived a day at work. Everyone got McDs at lunch and I sat with my salad box - feeling virtuous...dangerous!!! Speaking of dangerous, I have a family lunch tomorrow in a pub and a long drive. Planning to bircher for breakfast, plenty of sparkling water and look for protein/salad on the menu. Like others have said, I have a love for crisps - but I will avoid!!

Perdyboo · 01/06/2017 17:09

And yes, there were lots of opinions!!!

Flightywoman · 01/06/2017 20:03

Well done Perdy!

We've been to the beach today, I made sarnies for the family and a salad for me, we avoided the ice cream and chips and had a fab day.

I just made macaroni cheese for them/cauliflower cheese for me for supper and feel very fed and comfortable!

Slimthistime · 01/06/2017 20:32

Am I the only one struggling?
Hungry
Insomnia worse
And the boredom at work! I think it's much easier on work at home days but I can't do that every day.

Flibbertyjibbit · 01/06/2017 20:44

How long have you been following the plan Slim? I was struggling but I am now on day 6 and feel much better. Almost like a fog has lifted. Hope you start to feel better. I have found drinking water has taken my mind of being hungry when I struggled.

Slimthistime · 01/06/2017 20:59

Today is day 7
I really can't drink any more water, my bladder is not that big! Grin

My GP has allowed me to take a couple of sleeping pills each week as I have been siffering raging insomnia for more that twenty years

Really she wants me to take a different antidepressant but the ones that help sleep seem to be even worse for weight gain

Anyway, I took my sleeping pill last night and realised, these pills do not sit well with a stomach that's got no carbs in it.

So I feel even worse today

I didn't comment the last couple of days because I feel quite low

It's meds that caused my weight gain
There are people talking about having eaten whole bars of Galaxy etc, I never did that so I suppose o can't Exocet the big losses others see

So I just wonder if this will be worth it
I'm home all weekend so can ride it out to see if it gets better
Out tomorrow night but I know the place so know what I can have from the menu
