My weigh in brought me two results.GrinOne says 1 1/2 pounds the other 2. Either is acceptable to me. So 4 pounds altogether. Disclaimer:- I went straight from 5:2 to this. But this one is working.

tobee · 22/05/2017 13:16

That should read 3 1/2 or 4 altogether.

kneesupfatty · 22/05/2017 13:52

Can I join too pls? I want, ideally, to lose 2 and a half stones. I'm already 12 lbs down (lost since January), but I've been dithering about for weeks now and know that I've got a real issue with carbs. I did try the 5:2 plan, but didn't really get on with it - weirdly, I managed the fast days pretty easily, but struggled with the non fast days. Weigh in today: 10st 9. I'm a petite-framed 5'3", so every pound really does show!

kneesupfatty · 22/05/2017 13:57

One query: what do those of you that run tend to do? I'm going to do a 10k route tomorrow and 800 cals won't be enough. Do you tend just to eat back your exercise calories on run days?

PinkBlossomTree · 22/05/2017 14:35

Omg knees you are the same stats as me when I started 5:2. And funnily enough got on really well on fast days but really badly on non fast days.

I don't eat back my cals BUT I can't run very well or fast my fast walking pace is really not far off my running.

Personally but I'm no expert I'd have extra protein. I did a very similar diet to this last year and ignored the cals but stuck to under way under 50g carbs and I lost 3 stone and took my body down too the lowest I've been in 15 years.

tobee · 22/05/2017 18:16

Quick question. Is honey a no go? As in a teaspoon for flavouring in a savoury dish?

Flightywoman · 22/05/2017 19:26

How many portions does the dish make? If it's 4, I'd probably add the honey. If it's 2 I might add a drop but not the whole lot.

LoupGarou · 22/05/2017 20:15

Does anyone else struggle to keep their carbs down? I'm really struggling to keep my carbs under 50g, I can keep them under 80g without issue but any lower than that seems really difficult without reducing protein. I do have coeliac disease and I am vegetarian, so perhaps that isn't helping? Confused

APlaceOnTheCouch · 22/05/2017 21:31

Loup my DH has coeliac's and I make the same meals for both of us so I don't find that impacts on carb counts. But I could see how being vegetarian could make BSD more difficult initially. It takes a while to get used to choosing veg that are low in carb.

LoupGarou · 22/05/2017 22:09

Thanks APlace I'm only on day three so hopefully balancing it all will get easier soon. I think its more the trying to get enough protein which is also low enough in carbs which is the problem. I'm ending up at around 760 calories each day, but my protein/carb ratio seems off. I think I'm eating too many beans and pulses and that's bumping them up. Perhaps if I switched to more tofu instead.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/05/2017 07:22

Morning all,
Loup I find that beans/ pulses seem surprisingly high carb when I eat them, which isn't often. Do you eat eggs? Maybe hard boil a few eggs to add to salads?

I had a good day yesterday, finished on about 900 cals which is brilliant for me. Going for a little park/picnic with friends today so I'm packing a massive salad and will resist the ice cream van!

kneesupfatty · 23/05/2017 08:12

Thanks Pink - I think that I'll just eat back exercise calories on the days that I do a longish run, but I will aim for more protein.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 23/05/2017 10:11

kneesup I have the same problem with poor runs since eating less carbs. I think eating slightly more the day before may be the answer

LoupGarou · 23/05/2017 11:31

the new no, sadly I'm allergic to eggs - I'm a bit of a nightmare dinner guest really Confused. I did try baking some plain diced tofu in miso soup and herbs last night, then letting it cool and drizzling it over the salad, and that seemed to work quite well and was pretty tasty and low carb, so think I'll have to keep along those lines.

On the plus side I finished at 792 calories, and 63g carbs, so better than the previous two days Smile

Flightywoman · 23/05/2017 12:59

I don't have a problem with pulses, but I'm not really adhering to the 50g carb rule - it's more usually 65-70.

What's working for me is 800 or so cals, carbs at whatever they come in at.

With the veggie husband who doesn't eat eggs and doesn't like tofu much I rely on pulses as a staple...

LoupGarou · 23/05/2017 15:03

That's really good to know that 65-70 carbs are working for you, thanks Flighty I'll stop worrying about it quite so much Smile. Pulses have been a staple for me too, plus I really love them

kneesupfatty · 23/05/2017 15:57

Thanks Ginger - I had porridge for breakfast and a Naked bar when I got back, which felt about right.
I'm not planning to low carb as such, just stick to the calories and Mediterranean style diet.

tobee · 23/05/2017 16:06

Any more recipe tips/books please, that you trust? Not so fashionable for calorie counted recipes these days I find.

I've been getting used to having salad with just vinegar on and no oil. You'd think it would be too much but it's fine!

PinkBlossomTree · 23/05/2017 18:36

I'm doing ok today. The family decided they wanted a takeaway kebab so I ordered a mixed salad and had that with a hard boiled egg and some smoked salmon.

My calories without the salad was 542. With only 5g carbs Shock

MFP doesn't know how many calories were in the salad so you think I'm ok to guess I was under today?

It was strange white shredded stuff (no idea what) didn't taste like lettuce chopped cucumber with a few slices of tomato and a tiny bit of red onion?

Flightywoman · 23/05/2017 19:17

I didn't realise the thing I'm going to tonight is a takeaway so I didn't go light at breakfast! I've ordered a chicken and lettuce thing, no rice or noodles. So I'll probably be a bit over today but I won't be drinking which will help!

And I've just arranged to entertain my sister and cousin on Sunday but as I'm cooking I can be in charge of everything and make sensible-ish choices! And have a tiny breakfast...

Flightywoman · 23/05/2017 19:30

Was the salad cabbage Pink? I'd imagine you're ok on that - if you are over it won't be by a lot.

My dinner choice has just changed to tofu with mixed vegetables!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/05/2017 20:50

I've eaten a million calories today- all on plan, none of the controlled substances, but still.....!!

Flibbertyjibbit · 23/05/2017 21:10

I've just ordered the BSD book, arriving tomorrow. Please can I join you all? I have continuosuly yo-yo'd with diets in the past, but no more - I need to shift the weight for my health and well-being.

I'm planning to clear out the cupboards tomorrow, and make myself a go to list of recipes in the hope that this will keep me focused.

Any tips for the first week? I already have water bottles to make sure I drink lots of water.

PinkBlossomTree · 23/05/2017 21:39

Flighty yes its cabbage. Omg I've been eating it 3 years and couldn't put my finger on it. I think it may be coated in something as it's soft.

I'm sure 215 cals should hopefully be suffice

Bringmewineandcake · 23/05/2017 21:50

The Spanish soup is delicious Flibberty and the breakfast yogurts are tasty and satisfying too.
