Yum is the gut diet to do with the MM program last week / week before?

Good productive day for me as I managed a run first time in 9 months not as bad as I made it out to be on my head and and I didn't have to start right back at the beginning again on the C25K podcast.

How did the school fayre go bear? Bet your cakes went down well.

682 cals today and 33g of carbs today, I'm going to try and get a bit more adventurous with my meals next week.

Flightywoman · 19/05/2017 18:07

I'm way over on calories today at 1061 BUT, I've walked to and from school 3 times today (forgotten swimming kit!) and I'm walking to a gig tonight, and probably walking home too, so that should offset it, even though there's that thing about not eating back exercise calories.

And as I topped 1000 MFP gave me a predicted loss of 22lbs in 5 weeks. They don't do it for under 1000! But that would be nice...

yumyumpoppycat · 19/05/2017 19:10

Hi yes the book is out, I hadn't seen any program on the TV so not sure if it's the same. I ordered it for my kindle and downloaded it literally the minute it was available at midnight on thu Blush Its really very cheap and worth a buy if you pick up the odd helpful nugget.

Newaverage I crave coffee, but my coffee cravings reduced A LOT when I was trying to eat 10 portions of fruit and veg a day (there was a challenge on here) so I think there is something in MM's theories that changing what you eat can change the balance of bacteria in your diet and affect cravings.

PS we have been out as a family for dinner and I am slightly tipsy so please ignore any typos....on a plus note MM says a drink once a week is good for your microbiome Grin

yumyumpoppycat · 19/05/2017 19:12

Flighty well done on a good day of exercise ... nice to get a thumbs up from MFP too!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/05/2017 20:36

Thanks pink the Fayre went well, we took a lot of money in 90 minutes but it's hard work. Just me and one other setting up pretty much the whole Fayre so I'm knackered now.
I've been more like my old 'picky' self today, didn't count calories or even jot things down. Feel like I've eaten a lot of rubbish. While doing tea for the dc, the baby unzipped the beanbag and it was like snow in here, not what i needed after several hours of madness at school!
I ate a few tangfastic haribo to take the edge off, and now I have wine. I need it tonight though, so I'm not going to be too harsh on myself!

I'm definitely going to get the new book tomorrow. I'm definitely addicted to coffee, and particularly when I am doing this plan because I have a coffee instead of food in the morning to keep me going.

PinkBlossomTree · 19/05/2017 21:19

Glad it was a success. Enjoy the wine don't beat yourself up as tomorrow is another day!
I've always thought if your not watching your weight your gaining and everyone on here is doing something about it. We are all human at the end of the day.

I'm a coffee addict. Never used to be only started about 2 years ago but I drink it all day long. This week I have switched over half my cups over to green tea. I don't really like it but it's the milk that bothers me. I don't count it it's the only thing I don't count but switching to green tea has saved a few cals this week.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/05/2017 22:03

I weigh 100g milk into a cup every morning and that goes into the fridge which I then use to do my coffees. I usually get 3 from it (49 cal for 100ml)

I am a terrible insomniac so I can't have caffeine after about 2pm. I do want more than I have if that makes sense, so perhaps I should try to cut back. I have a stevia sweetener tab in each one (used to be two!) so that might be causing me probs too.

You're right, tomorrow is a new day, I'm determined to be firmly in the 11s when I go away so I really must keep on going for another week!!

yumyumpoppycat · 19/05/2017 23:30

There isn't actually that much about coffee in the book, its just briefly mentioned along with eggs, soya, gluten, dairy, pulses etc as something that can irritate the gut, also it links in with sleep as sleep is necessary for a good gut. I think I process caffeine quickly as it doesn't affect my sleep but I do think I drink more than is healthy, its confusing because I read it is good for slowing Alzheimer's - but possibly not when combined with a gabillion cups of tea like I have.

yumyumpoppycat · 19/05/2017 23:33

actually I have found this book more helpful/inspiring how to eat better

Flightywoman · 20/05/2017 09:00

Thank goodness, this morning it's a loss - 2lbs off!

Total is 13lbs lost in just under 3 weeks, and tantalisingly close to a new stones bracket...

PinkBlossomTree · 20/05/2017 10:08

Flighty - that's amazing! Roll on your stone next week

Flightywoman · 20/05/2017 10:31

Thank you Pink! It's all crossed for next week!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 20/05/2017 13:46

Flighty inches and pounds lost - hurrah!

Well, I had an unexpected night out last night which included a meal. I hadn't eaten much during the day so food cals were fine. But then I had cocktails, wine , etc. I ended up at about 1,500 cals and carbs of over 100. There was dancing so hopefully that helped to offset it a little but either way, it was a fun evening and the rest of the weekend should be quiet . . .(fingers crossed)

Batbear · 20/05/2017 16:49

Well done flighty great loss. I hope I'm thst close to a stone at 3 weeks.

I ended up eating way to many nuts earlier so I won't be eating much later!

PinkBlossomTree · 20/05/2017 20:33

Slightly over 800 cals today it comes in at 827cals and 31g carbs.

Not worried as I've been under all week.

Tea was a bit of disaster I used the barenaked rice and a small portion of a mushroom soup tin and mushrooms thinking it may make a nice mushroom risotto. The problem is the rice is very watery so it was kind of a mushroom soup with rice in the end. I think next time I may try it with a cup a soup and make it very thick instead.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/05/2017 21:12

Anyone else find that it's always the day after you think will be difficult that sneaks up on you? Yesterday- thought would be tricky, allowed myself a small treat in the evening, managed ok. Today- nothing tricky planned, even weighed in a cheeky 0.8lb down since yesterday, feeling smug, ended up eating a mr Kipling lemon slice and a piece of pork pie!!!!

Dh was vocalising his takeaway plans (he does this 'what are we planning for dinner?' thing when he cooks like twice a year); I was this |__| close to agreeing out of sheer laziness, but no. Resisted. So this is my dinner.
It's way over cals but it's on plan at least!

Went a bit to hell in a handcart this evening and had a fish from the chippy. No chips though - I ate 3 of my daughter's!

Could be better, could be a LOT worse!

Fender1 · 20/05/2017 21:56

Hi all, I'm two weeks in (tomorrow) and haven't lost ANY weight.
I've read the book and have been following meal plans and recipes from the book so confident my calorie intake should give me a deficit each day.

Please can people reassure me that some people start slow and suddenly Bam! The weight just falls off.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/05/2017 22:09

Fender that's very strange to lose nothing. Some possible explanations: is it totm related (eg water retention could be skewing results); are you drinking enough (2litres a day?); were you already eating a low cal or low carb diet so didn't get the initial whoosh for making radical changes?

Other than that all I can say is stick with it; as you say, you can't not lose if you're in calorie deficit every day. It must be terribly frustrating though, you have great will power!

OP posts:
Fender1 · 20/05/2017 22:38

I'm not sure I do have will power to last 8 weeks without seeing any weight loss. I'm aiming for 2l water a day but maybe I'll up it next week and see if that makes any difference.
Also I've started the couch to 5k programme and apart from that and some walking (8k steps on my Fitbit) I haven't introduced a rigorous exercise regime. What exercise do you all do on a weekly / daily basis?

EagleRay · 21/05/2017 00:08

I'm nearly at the end of my first week and think I've shifted about 4lb (I had lost 3lb by thurs so another lb is a reasonable guess).

I thought it was going to be too hard due to current lifestyle but it's been fine - I mostly live at the hospital with DD then nip home overnight every other night. Food has to be transported with me and there's only a microwave at the hospital but I focus more on buffet plates rather than recipes which makes it easier. In the fridge I always keep soup, boiled eggs, green veg, prepacked salads, tofu and some nice cheese then I just chuck a few bits on a plate or into a box if I'm eating later at the hospital.

Emotionally, it's given me something positive to focus on - I like the fact that by the time DD gets out of hospital I could be a stone lighter and wearing my nice clothes again (and being healthier). I'm getting nowhere with exercise as no chance to do anything but I won't beat myself up over that at the moment.

Only downfalls have been nicking a few chips off DD's plate and the occasional mouthful of ice cream which accompanies each of her meals

Bringmewineandcake · 21/05/2017 00:23

Can I join in? I'm on day 6 of my first week, spent a week reading the bsd book first.
I've not weighed myself at all and I'm not sure whether to weigh on Monday or not. I have a tendency to self-sabotage if I've not lost weight.
As it's only my first week I've stuck to the recipes in the book. I've enjoyed maybe 2 main meals this week and tolerated the rest. I don't look forward to my food so I'm seeing it as payback for when I've eaten far too much! I loathe celery, not overly keen on courgette either! But I've had no processed foods at all so that has to be a bonus.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/05/2017 07:09

Fender I don't think I could do the 8 weeks and lose nothing either, but you must lose eventually! Unless you happen to be incredibly sedentary it very petite, you must be creating deficit in calories so it must go from somewhere! Have you done your measurements? I would do those now if not so at least you can track inch loss.

Bring me I don't like the recipes from the book much either, partly because the calorie counts are way out, and partly because I don't really like lentils/beans. I tend to go for a meat/salad arrangement most days. I use non-BSD recipe books too all the time, I love Jamie Oliver's stuff, and it works pretty well for me.

OP posts:
Bringmewineandcake · 21/05/2017 09:46

Are the calorie counts too high or too low? Confused now I'm even more nervous about weighing myself tomorrow!

PinkBlossomTree · 21/05/2017 10:29

Week 1 is drawing closer. I'm quite looking forward to my first weigh in tomorrow.

There is a few of us and I can't wait to see everyone's results.

I planned on doing ketosis for 1 month as we have a night out and I will be drinking but seems I've got my dates wrong and it will be 3 and a bit weeks instead. It will be a nice kick start anyway.
