I've tried the no carb noodles. They are weird! Texturally, they are gelatinous but crunchy so they work in a stir-fry with lots of crunchy veg, but not as a pasta substitute because they aren't nice and soft like pasta.

I'm down to 6 or 8 packets after, mistakenly, bulk buying and I think I won't get them again!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 16/05/2017 19:21

I like the Bare Naked Noodles. When I first started BSD, I would make them with a cheese sauce as a macaroni cheese substitute.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/05/2017 19:30

Do you mean the konjac (sp?) noodles. I've not tried them but to be honest I have heard they are quite slimy which put me off!

For halloumi fries i did 50g halloumi and 1/2 tbsp oil, heat the oil really hot then just pan fry the halloumi. Instead of turning it golden, let it go really crispy and turn so all the edges are really crispy. They were absolutely delicious.

I've bought halloumi to do this!

PinkBlossomTree · 16/05/2017 19:58

Bare naked noodles, that's the ones. I honestly couldn't remember the name. The do a rice substitute aswell.
Thanks.

I'm going to give them a whirl, we have stirfry for tea tomorrow and I'm hoping it will work as a good substitute. Asda do nothing remotely like this so I will take a trip to Morrisons tomorrow try one each and if there ok il go and buy more as they are pricey.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/05/2017 20:36

Should have added, cut the halloumi into 'chip' shapes!

4lbs down for my first week which I'm happy with.

Planning a protein smoothie tomorrow as my carbs are still too high

APlaceOnTheCouch · 16/05/2017 21:58

Pink if you like the noodles, it's sometimes cheaper to bulk buy them from Holland & Barrett - they do special multi-buy offers occasionally.

EagleRay · 16/05/2017 22:41

Funnily enough I bought these rices this evening!

Second pic shows my dinner which has filled me up reasonably. Have also spent a bit of time this evening setting up protein/fat/carb ratios in mfp.

Tomorrow's goal: to nail water consumption which has been nil so far Blush

I had a breadmix from Ikea, it's s proper multigrain with rye, so I've had a piece for breakfast. Hopefully it will sort me out till lunchtime!

I put on 2lbs last week, didn't gain any more from my Saturday, but that's gone this morning so I'm hoping I get a bit more loss this week.

Scandicat · 17/05/2017 08:34

Halloumi fries sound amazing. Might make those tonight.

Well last week was a bit of a write off for me. DP working loads of night shifts and my kids aren't sleeping well so I've reached for carbs and sugar a few times! Gained and lost the same couple of pounds a few times but now back at 11st 9 so still 6lb off so far.

Trying to get back in the zone today, not eating til lunchtime then going to have scrambled egg and tomato and then baked haddock with veg tonight. Hopefully can get back on track.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/05/2017 14:47

Had a good couple of days, the temptation to weigh myself nearly got me this morning but I'm trying to break my many bad habits and that is one of them, so I very quickly drank a pint of water so I wouldn't be tempted by the scales!

I've been weighing everything I eat this week and it's been quite revealing, it appears I am a terrible guestimater so my calorie counts have likely been way off. So while I've been 1000 cals this week, at least I know it actually is 1000 cals rather than probably quite a lot more. I've also noticed that because I know I'm not guessing, I've been more likely to say no to stuff (even good stuff) unless I actually want it. I think I've been just muffling along whereas this week I have been doing it properly do I'm quite optimistic for at least a little loss this week!

I bought all the barenaked noodles and rice in our local Morrisons, there was only 3 of each left and got a cauli rice to try. At just 8cals it seems to good to be true but may make a nice addition to a meal.

Bear I thought the same re weighing of the food. I've only this week just bought digital scales it's a eye opener. I did supposedly a VLCD last year but never weighed out my food. It seems I wasn't doing a VLCD as my estimation was obviously way over. That may be why I didn't loose as much as quickly as I had thought.

PinkBlossomTree · 17/05/2017 15:22

Oh I forgot to ask,

With the under 800 cals per day, how far under is acceptable?

I've my fitness paled my evening meal and my lunch and if I don't have anything else my total is 615cals. Is that too low?

I think I may have gone into ketosis yesterday. Had to go up to bed very early as I felt awful just not quite right with a banging head. Today I am not hungry at all and am freezing cold. Does that sound like it??

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/05/2017 15:45

Pink I find also the portion sizes on my app are not a conventional portion, so if I count a chicken breast as 150g for example because that's what is suggested as a portion- the ones I had yesterday weighed between 214 and 264g! Makes me feel quite silly actually because obviously what's the point in calorie counting a completely made up quantity of food??!! Been eye opening today

Still going here after nearly giving up at the weekend. Had chat about it with dh and ate an illicit apple Grinand felt a lot better! The spaced out feeling was really getting to me. But yesterday I felt my best but today I feel lethargic and achey. Any ideas if that will pass soon, please? The thought of exercise see,s remote atm.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/05/2017 18:17

Finishing the day on 871 cals , had bolognese on veg for tea. I still feel pretty hungry to be honest, I could raid the kitchen! I shall try very hard to resist.

I now feel a lot more in control of my food as I've been calculating a rough estimate at lunchtime by scanning it on MFP and calculating it. The meat is a pain as I calculated today's turkey breast at 250g for two steaks. Weighed it after cooking and it came in at 200g so that was a bonus.

Tried the barenaked noodles. The texture is bad but it worked well in a stirfry with soy sauce. I think plain would be bloody awful but as one of the other posters suggested definitely needs some sort of sauce.

Shame the price is so high but will most definitely have them again and would like to incorporate them into my normal routine. Compared to the cals in egg noodles I really can't complain.

Flightywoman · 17/05/2017 21:18

I've just made afghan carrot stew from the Veggiestan book, subbed lentils for the yellow split peas. It's really delicious and filling.

Day ends on about 830 cals. Over on carbs because I had the Ikea bread.

mrsreddington · 17/05/2017 21:44

Wobbled last night and ate some crackers Blush but I've had a good day today. No carb ploughmans from the book for lunch (minus the walnuts) and veg frittata for tea. Ending today on 804 calories.

Feeling surprisingly good after 3 days. Usually I feel sick, tired and headachey when I've done low calorie diets in the past. I am trying to drink loads of water though. The real test will come at the weekend...that's when the wheels usually come off my diets...

APlaceOnTheCouch · 18/05/2017 11:16

mrs lots of us find weekends difficult but it's easy to pick back up if you do fall off Wink
I was back on track yesterday after over 2000 cals on Mon and over 1000 on Tuesday. Luckily I did lots of walking on Tuesday so if I can fit more walking in today and keep to cals for the rest of the week, hopefully Mon won't impact too much.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/05/2017 14:08

I find the key to keeping at least partly on track at the weekend is planning. So, this weekend ds has two parties- I can either pretend I won't eat party food, which we all know is a lie, OR I can plan properly so I eat before I go, take a bottle of water with me, and chew gum so the minty taste puts me off nibbling. If we're staying in I plan nice meals so I don't get tempted. I also just don't buy stuff I know will tempt me, such as nuts or chocolate (even for the dc) as I have learned the hard way that once I've had a glass of wine I don't have an off switch!

I was hoping to not drink this weekend but it's the PTA sumner Fayre tomorrow so I am sure after that I will need a glass of wine! Currently I am mid-bake with no less than 50 cupcakes in various stages of bake/ice/decorate. Long termers on this thread may remember that I have a real issue love affair with cake mix, it truly is my nemesis. Well, probably because they're for other people not just the family, I have been exceptionally good and have only had one tiny taste of mix and one of buttercream, and even that was for purely quality control purposes.

Stupid question, maybe. Can you guys tell the difference between hunger, cravings, and just plain mouth watering?
