Welcome dot. I only started a week ago so it will be good to have another newbie around.

Yesterday and today have been much tougher. I took DD out to Yo Sushi yesterday and stayed off the rice, eating edame beans, chicken katsu, vegetable tempurna, and sashimi with miso soup and green tea. It was fine but I then felt so hungry in the evening, plus after a week of good losses the scales have stalled. I am also finding myself wanting to shop as an alternative treat. I am saving on food, but presumably not as much as I am liable to spend. Clothes though can wait, until I am thinner.

Best wishes to all.

Hi

I was on this thread last summer but found it really hard to stick to. I've tried a few other diets since then and lost the same stone a couple of times. Then I gave up on dieting completely and the weight started creeping up. So I'm back on the only diet that works. Lost 9lb on it so far (since a week ago) but feeling a bit demotivated as I still have so far to go and I really miss cake.

Oblomov17 · 24/04/2017 13:21

Couch, I went for this, reduced in the sale. Any nice dress, or smart trousers, or any outfit really, goes!! What kind of thing were you thinking?

That's a lovely dress oblov.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 24/04/2017 18:46

Lovely dress Oblomov The colours are fab.
I was thinking of a dress. I have one that I bought last year but have never worn but I don't know what I'd wear with it. (the gold velvet)

I spotted the pink pleated one (pic attached) when I was shopping last week but again, am unsure what I would wear with it. I don't know if I'd be better buying a dress/coat combo from somewhere. I am always cold so will not survive if I just wear a dress Grin

They are both lovely place, the gold one is especially nice.

Good day food wise for me, feeling a bit brighter and a bit less carb-deprived. I had some crustless quiche with salmon, and now I'm waiting til the dc go to bed before having a stir fry.

Me again! Weighed in this morning. I'd been avoiding the scales after Easter as I didn't want to know how much damage I'd done, but I felt like it was contributing to my extreme sense of denial!

Started 12.9.5 (3 weeks ago)
Pre-Easter 11.13.5
Easter Sunday/Monday 12.6 Blush
Today- 12.0.5 - so very nearly all my Easter bloat off.

That'll teach me. I now have 4.5 weeks until we go away, so potentially if I'm very on the ball I could perhaps lose 9lb in that time, putting me firmly into the 11's- so that's going to be my goal!

Started the day with a shake made from: 100g frozen berries, 100ml coconut water, 200ml almond milk and a tbsp Greek yog. Comes in at 150 cals and it is surprisingly filling, I've only drunk half of it so far, will have the rest later.

Hello, just hoping to join in. I started the Blood Sugar Diet yesterday. So far, I'm really enjoying the food, but I have been closer to 1000 calories on both days. I've been using recipes from the book because the calories are already calculated and I'm very short on time. Can anyone suggest any quick, easy, low calorie meals?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/04/2017 22:06

Welcome Titus. Firm faves in our house are chicken in Parma ham, pizza topped chicken or turkey, and things like steak or gammon steaks.
Lunches are usually salads with eggs or Tuna. I saw a recipe today for cod with pesto which I'll be trying next week!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 26/04/2017 08:12

bear well done on losing your Easter weight. I'm still hovering at my higher weight but TOTM hasn't arrived yet.
Welcome Titus - favourite meals in our house are Jamie Oliver traybakes; the chicken and red pepper curry from the BSD website; the BSD cottage pie and lots of soups.

A huge loss in my first week and then no movement for four days, and now finally the scales suggest I am two pounds down. I will follow MM and review every two weeks. I suspect boredom might set in, though luckily I work from home and am really busy, whilst poor DH is in a Brexit impacted job and is snowed under, so minimal social lives for us anyway. If I can lose 2 lbs a week over the next six weeks, get through the current work surge, and declutter the house (Kondo rules!), I might demand that DH involve the European Working Time Directive and take some leave.

It could be the start of the perfect empty nest except that as the younger one leaves home the older one will be moving back in. He, luckily, is tidier and does not bake as a hobby/stress reliever. The latter randomly started baking at 11.00pm last night and has now gone out for the day leaving a full tray of cookies in the kitchen. She is a baker, DH is a feeder, what chance do I have?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/04/2017 14:59

Altered this diet is notorious for its 'stick and whoosh' weightloss- stick a few days, then wham! You lose 4lb overnight. I agree, Boredom is definitely the biggest downfall on this plan, but I suppose the same is true of any diet that cuts out whole food groups, and especially the things we eat for fun. I find I get in the 'meat+ salad' rut, and have to give myself a little shake-up every now and then. This week for example I've been experimenting with shakes in the morning instead of eggs (I get very very bored of eggs because I don't particularly like them, so I find eating them a bit of a chore), and I also found I was eating a lot of cheese/ham for breakfasts. This morning my shake was 40g frozen raspberries, almond milk, coconut water (make sure you get unsweetened, I got some in lidl this week) and peanut butter. It was lovely! I reckon could also be frozen into ice lollies which would also be nice and maybe a good evening treat/dessert. I also go through the recipe books and try something new, I love Jamie Oliver's 30 and 15 min books and Also his superfood book for some good flavoursome recipes.

Today I've had my shake, a chicken thigh In spicy Satay sauce leftover from yesterday, and tonight it's either gammon steaks or Asian beef- I haven't decided yet. I'm not strictly calorie counting this week, although coming in around 1000-1100, and tomorrow I'm doing a fasting day of 800. I'll have to plan better for that!

I'm in a stroppy mood today!! Baby ds who has slept through the night every night for the last week decided to break the spell. Booooo!
My shake today was horrible, we had no fruit so I did peanut butter, almond milk, tiny amount of cocao - it was very bitter, so I added a sprinkle of sweetener which made it more pallatable. Then realised when I used my app that I'd added too much PB and it cost me 240 calories!!!! Wish I hadn't bothered!

Hoping things improve during the day (massive FW problems I know.....)

dotandstripe · 27/04/2017 08:26

Start of Day 4 here, scales down 3.3 pounds already. I know some is just weekend gains from before I started but really pleased still.

Finding it surprisingly easy - I haven't really felt hungry at all, compared to when I did 5:2 fast days. A bit daunted by the prospect of these tiny meals for 8 weeks as I do love food. So just taking it a week at a time and we'll see how it goes...

Scandicat · 27/04/2017 11:06

Hello, checking in. I seem to be hovering around the same weight, which is good, but no progress either. Wish I'd stuck at phase 1 for 4 more weeks before I stopped. Finding it hard to get back onto it now.

I've been reading the Joe Wicks book I bought. He allows carbs if you have done exercise and so since I've been for a run this morning I decided that means I can have some raisin toast. Shock So I guess its another bad day. I did run 6.5 k though, and I've noticed that my running is so much better now I'm lighter. So that's another good thing.

Anyway, I'm rambling. Hope everyone else is having a good week.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/04/2017 19:26

That's an impressive run Scandi, I'd love to be able to make the time to exercise properly.

Today started off grouchy, (see my post below), was actually ok for most of the day, but this evening I have just eaten loads of flipping chocolate while tidying up!!! Why why why do I do this to myself???? I'm really tired after ds's bad night, and was waiting til dh came home to have tea, so was probably too hungry. But still. I need some quality control. It wasn't even nice chocolate!

OP posts:
TitusAndromedon · 27/04/2017 20:16

Thanks for the recipe suggestions. I'm making chicken, chorizo and peppers with steamed broccoli tonight. I still can't seem to keep my calories to 800. I feel genuinely hungry between meals so end up having a few almonds because I can carefully control quantities, but it's hard getting through the day. Perhaps next week I need to simplify my lunches and just make a very basic salad, rather than the fancy salads in the book (although they are delicious!).

Scandicat · 27/04/2017 20:50

Bear - I know what you mean, I was picking at some of DS's easter chocolate yesterday and that wasn't nice chocolate either. I'm struggling to resist temptation tonight. Had to go to put petrol in the car and the whole way kept having to talk myself out of buying chocolate. And there are biscuits in the house and I really really want one. Think I might have to go to bed early to avoid temptation, although that's not fair on the dog, so will have to tough it out for a while.

Oblomov17 · 27/04/2017 20:58

I'm on a bit of a roll : I've done 4 days under 800, and I haven't done that for a LONG time. But blimey, it's hard work, mentally!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 27/04/2017 21:30

Well done Oblomov That's excellent.
bear you have achieved so much especially since you have a baby and moved house, etc, You should be proud of yourself!
I relate to the 'not even nice chocolate' comments. I've been the same. DH then bought me 'posh' chocolate and I ate it all. I'm starting to think he's a feeder. Grin I'm going out for lunch tomorrow but the restaurant has a buffet option so hopefully there will be some BSD-friendly options.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/04/2017 10:32

It must be something more than hunger/craving though- perhaps I need to go all AA and accept I'm addicted and only a higher power can help me.
Currently sitting in Costa with a skimmed milk flat white, watching ds eat a cookie and I'm not even remotely tempted. Put a piece of nasty, child- pawed, glorified cooking chocolate in front of me and I can't control myself.

Must remember it's little steps all the time that get results. I've planned a cracking menu for next week though with some lovely things on it so provided I can get through the weekend I feel optimistic for next week. Dh and I have been very good at saying no to the extra bottle of wine during the week, so that's a start.

Any plans for the bank holiday? I'm secretly glad the weathers not BBQ friendly, I could do without the temptation!

OP posts:
APlaceOnTheCouch · 28/04/2017 10:52

I have been making lots of mini pies this week. I decided to circumvent the 'sticky-muffin-tins' dilemma by buying mini pie dishes/ramekins instead. They arrived this week and are fab. I've used them to make frittatas; fish pie, etc.
We've been busy since Easter so tonight, I'm finally going to pack away or donate all the Easter eggs. Next week's aim will be to get used to snacking on sugarsnap peas and mange tout again.
We are supposed to be away this weekend which usually means more food but also more walking so it balances out in the end.

Bear, I hope you slept better tonight. I have discovered the joys of good quality East African coffee. M&S Rwandan is lovely but so too is coffee from Kenya and Ethiopia. I do't need much milk and may yet come to like my coffee black.

Today its a bit of a guilty pleasure as DH has joined the queue for day tickets at the National theatre. If successful, and he tells me it's touch and go as some people have been queuing all night, we face 8 hours of Angels in America. If I avoid ice cream at the interval, keeping below 800 calories should be simple.

yumyumpoppycat · 29/04/2017 22:37

Not on this at mo although I probably should be but I saw your message on threads I am on about the gut diet newaverage and have ordered it Blush am such a punter, but genuinely excited to see what it involves and maybe have a kick up the bum to lose those bloody last 10bs! I did get a bit lower on 5:2 but then got a cold and had some exercise ailments so it all went back on :(
