Was 3lb up this morning Blush
I don't think I ate 3lbs of cake and chocolate and bread, but I possibly did, but I'm hoping it's mostly water!

Have been very very good so far today. Lots of water drink and ham, cheese and olives for lunch.

Really looking forward to the book arriving so I can read up on the principles and get my head around this plan. Greek yogurt and compote for breakfast, frittata and salad lunch, stuffed aubergine dinner. Having quite an 'on plan' day I hope?!

Knocked back three glasses of wine last night and lots of Easter egg however. No booze tonight.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/04/2017 18:33

When is your book due to arrive Margaret? Your food sounds great though!

Not sure what we're having for dinner. The dc are at granny's hurray so it's just dh and I, but as always I forgot to get something from the freezer. I got loads of great things reduced at asda on Saturday morning as they had obviously forgotten they were closed Easter Sunday! Lots of pre-prepped things like chicken with cheese and bacon, and some fish things with spinach. No use to me frozen solid though!!

margarethamilton · 18/04/2017 19:45

Tomorrow hopefully! I may have just eaten quite a large bit of Easter egg...

Justonemorecupoftea · 18/04/2017 21:20

Well, all good plans went out of the window and I have stuffed and quaffed every savoury carb and glass of booze in the world while on holiday Blush I really enjoyed my holiday and birthday though so am not too cross with myselfSmile I'm planning on getting back on with it tomorrow and trying to avoid the scales for a few days 😉

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/04/2017 21:37

Good for you just. Personally even though I always say I'm avoiding the scales I can never resist that step on the scales to survey the damage!

Hello Folks

I started BSD yesterday. I am currently a shade under 90kg and need to get to 60kg. That's where I should really be.

I have been faffing about meaning to do this since after Christmas but there's always been some excuse pressing issue (illness, work, stress, social occasions etc). I picked yesterday as birthday season in our house is now over and there is a clear 8 weeks with nothing out of the ordinary going on.

Not feeling too bad, although felt shaky at various points yesterday.

Breakfast this morning 2 egg frittata with chopped lean naice ham, mushrooms, cherry toms, spinach and herbs. Black coffee (latte addict Brew so no milk is hard but it's not worth the calories).

I actually do feel good today!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/04/2017 12:47

Welcome Laflaneuse, your food sounds great. It's always surprising how energetic I feel when I am properly on it and I reckon it definitely helps keep the motivation up.

I had lost 2lb of my Easter egg bloat this morning, so today I'm feeling pretty buoyant! Been busy again as I Have wallpapered our bedroom. The final thing to do in our first stage renovations (we moved 5 months ago and it's been non stop) and it was so nice to finally put all the decorating stuff away in the garage!

I have had slices of Edam and ham rolled up like wraps with salad in for lunch and some olives. Just about to have some strawberries and yoghurt as well. I feel like a detoxing all over again though and keep telling myself I don't want the chocolate which I know is hidden around the house.

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/04/2017 22:03

Unfortunately, I ate the chocolate which is hidden all round the house. I held out til 6 pm though before I cracked.

Totm though, that's my excuse. I probably didn't drink enough or eat enough variety all day so by dinner time I was ravenous and not particularly inspired to cook anything.

OP posts:
margarethamilton · 20/04/2017 10:26

Had a child free day yesterday so a bit off plan. But I've lost 2lbs so far. Yogurt, fruit and chia seeds again today. Might make soup as it's so cold! Out tonight so sticking to salad and water.

I also ate the rest of my Easter egg bear. I'm hiding DD's...

LaFlaneuse · 20/04/2017 13:33

The choc is tempting isn't it? There's a bag of M&S chocolate eggs left over from an egg hunt on the shelf right in my eye line...

I'd forgotten I have to clear out the attic and fill a skip today - lots of manual labour - so I have eaten a relatively carby lunch (peanut butter on soya and linseed toast, full fat plain greek yogurt, apple and a 150ml of wholemilk latte) after a no carb brekkie and I feel better for it - just going to count in the cals and crack on. I could do without 'carb withdrawal flu' while doing this work. It'll still work out relatively low carb over the day as a whole.

The key point for me is making better choices when faced with stuff like that instead of thinking, oh well, may as well eat a creme egg or three now.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/04/2017 13:47

Gosh yes, I don't know why but certain times of the day I can't think of anything else! If I can get through those few minutes I'm ok.

Feel tired today, I'm trying to not drink so much coffee (I have 4 cups a day from the pod machine- blooming expensive and a ecological nightmare so I'm trying to cut right back), so have been drinking fruit green tea instead.

Baby ds is poorly again (he really is the snottiest child I have ever known) and bigger ds has his mate over but as they're only 4/5 they are getting s bit snippy with each other. I am tempted to go and hide in the larder and cram some Easter egg.....

Scandicat · 20/04/2017 22:41

Hello everyone. Easter has been terrible, hasn't it. I'd never realised quite how much chocolate turns up in the house. We didn't get our DC eggs, but they still ended up with 4 each, plus a kind relative gave me and DH one each too. I could have done worse, but also could have been better, and the worst thing is that its still lurking all over the house Shock.

Anyway, scales are kind of ok. I'm hovering at 9.9.8 despite several dodgy weeks. Lowest I'd managed was 9.8.8 briefly before the Easter weekend horror began! So no disastrous gain but no progress for about 3 weeks. Going to try and be a bit stricter for a couple of days and see if I can lose another couple of pounds. 9.7 by mid June is my target.

alteredimage · 21/04/2017 10:54

May I join? I have been trying to lose weight for perhaps a decade when I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes. Paul McKenna helped identify my triggers and then 5:2 and exercise helped me avoid sugar apart for the occasional binge get quite a lot off. However 2 stone reappeared this winter and a problem with tingling hands and feet has got worse. The GP says my blood sugar levels are in the normal range. I see the consultant in June, and feel I need to lose as much as I can before then. (He is bound to tell me to lose it so I might as well get in there first.)

I have lost 6 lbs in six days, and it has not been too bad so far. I work from home so tend to snack, rather than cook, so am making sure that there is plenty of sensible things to snack off (avocado, hard boiled egg, tomatoes, corn on the cob, smoked fish), and then either eat a smaller carb-free portion of dinner in the evening, or some protein with stir fry veg or similar. At the moment I am not hungry so if anything am eating under the 800 calories.

It won't be so easy going forward. The weight loss is bound to slow down and I assume my energy levels will drop. But the weight needs to come off, so I could do with help. Its hard because so much social activity involves eating out. I would love to hear some good news stories from people who have managed the full 8 weeks.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/04/2017 12:18

Hi altered and welcome!

I did a full 8 weeks this time last year, and lost 21lb, then another 7 or so in maintenance phase. I have put a bit back on, but I'm now in week 4 of my second proper round. I rarely stick to 800 calories, I find its just not enough for me- I have very long days with the dc and just can't realistically do day after day on 800 calories. I do stick to about 1000 on weekdays, and also have been this time round having no rice, pasta, potatoes, grains or sugar. I have found it to be pretty effective. I've had a week off over Easter and have regained a few pounds, but I'm determined now to stick to it for at least the 5 weeks til whitsun half term!

OP posts:
alteredimage · 21/04/2017 13:10

Thank you. 21 lbs would suit me fine. I tend to lose weight in the summer without thinking about it. I suspect I suffer from SAD and put weight on in the winter because I slow right down. My plan is to do as many weeks as I can now, and then repeat in the early autumn.

DD has been away but comes home tomorrow. Her egg is sitting there in its packaging. No temptation yet, but there will be if she fails to finish/hide it and leaves yummy chocolate pieces lying around.

I was just reading about a woman who lost 3 stone in 5 weeks whilst on the Island with Bear and eating 300 calories a day. Perhaps that is what I should do. (Though she has apparently put it all back on.)

APlaceOnTheCouch · 21/04/2017 16:24

Scandi well done on maintaining Flowers
I've been searching for the best low carb fish pie recipe and found a tuna fish pie which is fab. I just replace the potato topping with mashed cauliflower
tuna fish pie
I've just ordered ramekins so I make little mini pies. I feel like I'm turning into my DM except my DM always hated cooking so it's more like the mum from the Waltons Grin
Altered I lost about 14lbs in the first 8 weeks (which I started last Apr) but that included a week's holiday. Since then, I've lost almost another 28 lbs through adhering to the basic principles but reintroducing fruit and occasional carbs. I've reached my target weight and am trying different techniques to see what works best for maintaining.

Scandicat · 21/04/2017 19:12

Hi Altered. I did a perfect 8 weeks with no cheating and kept my carbs at about 50g or lower. I lost 25 pounds. I carried on for another 4 weeks and now I've done 3 weeks of a kind of phase 2 which I haven't quite worked out rules for, some days 800 some 1200 some free for all! In total I've gone from 12 stone to 9.8.8 since 1 January. So it absolutely works. It's been kind of a miracle for me, I cannot tell you how much better I feel about myself.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/04/2017 19:22

Today's been a long day. I should be grateful to be off with the kids but boy oh boy I will be glad when it's back to the old routine on Monday!

I've eaten well but light today and right now I'm starving! Ham and cheese for breakfast, salad and ham for lunch, not sure what's for tea. I had a very stern word with myself last night about getting back on track and not sabotaging myself. Quite frankly today I could have happily hidden in the pantry and helped ds finish his Easter eggs but I've kept my resolve although it was hard! I've done my measurements too, I find that a good motivator when I'm struggling.

Dh and I were supposed to be going to give up drinking for a month. He bought a bottle of wine home! Not even a week, and we don't drink in the week anyway. Oh well!

margarethamilton · 22/04/2017 09:24

Hi altered!

Just meal planned for the week and off shopping later. After a very on plan week, I did have takeaway last night. We're having work done on the house and everything is all over the place! So I succumbed... but this morning, mushrooms, asparagus and egg. TBH, I felt rough after eating a lot of naan bread and red wine.

So I big tidy up, get ready for the week, salady lunch planned today. And I cannot wait to get back into my routine next week too bear!

The stories of weight loss are really inspiring Smile

alteredimage · 22/04/2017 13:07

Thank you. Scandi, you can be my inspiration. Ideally I would end up about the same weight, though I start off with a stone more to lose. It will be at least a summer long project, though the next 20lbs is the difference between me looking fat and me wearing my clothes much better. I hope I can stick to it.

But much harder with children around, even older ones. I picked my daughter up from the airport at some silly hour, whilst DH stocked the kitchen so that it looks like some bounteous harvest festival, and to make matters worse DD has crept off to bed leaving a half-eaten yummy looking easter egg lying on the sofa.

I ate virtually nothing yesterday as the only "treats" were cucumber, cherry tomatoes, some smoked mackerel, boiled eggs, a four day old artichoke heart, feta and avocado. Or plain popcorn if I could be bothered to make it. I was also efficiently eating my way through my store cupboard, with red lentils being the next challenge. My reward was losing another pound.

That easter egg is calling out to me. Good luck to everyone today.

dotandstripe · 22/04/2017 22:33

Hi everyone, I'm going to start the BSD on Monday!

I only have about 10-15 pounds to lose but at 5ft2 it shows and I'm eating so much crap... I successfully lost about 22 pounds on 5:2 a couple of years ago but some of it has crept back on. Blush I've got into a bit of a carb craving cycle and found it very hard to lose weight on 5:2 combined with mostly TDEE but carb heavy days. I'm sure it's a hormonal/insulin resistance issue. I really need something structured that will help me to finally shift the pounds and get me back into healthy habits.

I have Mosley's recipe book, have just been looking through and updating my Ocado shopping basket accordingly. And swapped Monday's fruit & veg box delivery to veg only, with potatoes substituted with another red pepper. (And possibly eaten the left over Easter nest cakes... Blush)

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/04/2017 11:31

Welcome dot, good luck!

I'm sort of teetering between being so motivated , and then being so far off the wagon it's just a tiny dot in the distance. Wasn't really on it yesterday due to being out and grabbing convenient carby options. Today, I've had a good breakfast of cheese and chorizo, and some yoghurt, but feel like my hearts not really in it. I've just sat in the garden and planned the menu for the week with the help of Jamie's superfood book, so some nice things scheduled, and I'm just about to make some mini crustless quiches as well.

I really am at the mercy of my hormones- does anyone else get this? I don't get PMT as such (ie no mood swings or tearfulness) but I have been tracking for several months now and I seem to have a cycle of exactly 4 weeks. So a week before I'm plagued by sleepless nights and insomnia, then the week of my period I am just like a deflated balloon, no energy, moping around and carb crazy. This is where I am this week. If I do well, I can then have 2 reasonable weeks on plan but that's obviously dependent on my social life!
Do any of you take any supplements or anything that might help with this? I've tried EPO and starflower before but didn't really feel any difference. It's such a pronounced difference week to week that I can tell exactly where I am in my cycle based on how I feel.

Oblomov17 · 23/04/2017 12:29

Just checking in. I have 8 weeks until ds2's Holy Communion. I bought an amazing dress yesterday. I really need to get my ass into gear to lose some more.
Difficult because we are caravanning for both May Bank Holidays, but I will try and cut down on the wine.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 23/04/2017 17:36

bear I know what you mean about it being cycle dependent. I don't know if I'm more in tune or if my PMT has become more pronounced but I've also found in the last year that I can tell where I am depending on whether I have a headache, my weight (always 2lbs up just before TOTM), and how many carbs I want to eat (all of them when TOTM is due).
Oblomov what's your dress like? I'm looking for inspiration (a month to go here) and the other mums at school are being vague about what they're going to wear to the First Communions Grin
