Thanks for being ao supportive. I know I sounded really OTT. I was just hungry and tired and hoping for some results

Scandicat · 08/04/2017 11:29

Thanks Lndn. Sorry this wasn't your month. Torn is time of the month. And you didn't sound OTT. Probably I did!! It's tough but support from everyone here is so amazing. It really makes a difference.

I've broken even for the week. Not as good as i hoped but not a disaster. And Easter hols definitely making it harder.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/04/2017 22:40

Had a couple of 'no count' days, although I have actually tracked and came in under tdee (just!)

Thinking about the week ahead- dreading the school holidays with 3 dc off. It's when I'm most aware of the age gap (13, 4 and 1) because they can't do anything together!! I don't know how it will pan out but I'm really going to try and keep on plan,

I have done 2 weeks now without 'the big 5' and I feel like my appetite has calmed so much. I've not managed 800 a single day this week though, so I'm really determined to do at least alternate days next week to allow myself for my big cheat day on Sunday!

Scandi hope you're feeling better today. It's so hard when you try to integrate some sweet stuff back in. Regardless of what MM says, and what some of the plan purists claim, I don't think I'll ever be completely sugar free. There will always be a little place in my life for it- I'm hoping I'll be able to be a wise consumer and save if for when I really want it!

OP posts:
Scandicat · 09/04/2017 12:24

I've had a mental reset today. Maybe because its such a gorgeous day...

Anyway, its sunny and I'm wearing the size 10 cropped jeans that I couldn't get over my hips at Christmas. I love them, never managed to find another pair similar in the 4 years that they have been too small. Wearing them was my goal. And here I am.

And phase 2? Well the whole point is its slower. I knew that, so why am I stressing that I've not had the same results as last week. That was never going to happen. So week 2 philosophy is to enjoy the second week of the Easter holidays and not worry about it. And then, I might do another couple of weeks on 800 and try to hit my ultimate target. But as long as I can maintain a 2 stone 4 pound loss, what am I feeling sad about? I'd have bitten anyone's hand off if they had offered that to me at the start of the year.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/04/2017 19:41

Well done Scandi and you're right- you must remember that you've lost a huge amount of weight and be proud!

I caved at the park today and had a mr whippy, but it was yummy. I have come in under 1400 cals even with that do I'm happy (my tdee is 1900) plus we did a long walk with dm's dog as we were dog sitting for the day,

I'm going to try a shake in the morning to try and see me through til lunchtime so have sort of designed my own using the original
Book as a guide- I'm going to use almond milk, a handful of frozen raspberries and a shot of cooled green tea. This is mostly because I don't think I'll have time to cook an eggy breakfast/brunch with the kids off but I will need something to get me through the morning.

Determined to stick to 800 calories at least 2-3 times this week. I want to 'earn' my treat day on Sunday rather than use it as an excuse to write the week off!

Lndnmummy · 10/04/2017 12:05

Scandi, inspiring attitude. That attitude has seen you achieve the fab weightloss you have to date. And you bear!

I am dusting myself off. New week and all that. I should have known better than to start at easter hols but I thought the longer I wait the more there will be to loose.

My week was not as successful as I had hoped last week. My calories were ok but I had too much alcohol. And it was my totm do all in all just 1/2pound.
New week now. Long powerwalk this morning, lots of water and a yummy grilled chicken salad for lunch. I CAN AND i will do this.

Oblomov17 · 10/04/2017 14:26

I'm not doing very well. Finally plucked up enough courage to weigh myself and have put ON 4lbs.
Not sure what to do now. I cant seem to 'get strict'.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/04/2017 21:04

Oblov I can totally empathise. I went months like that. Really wanting to get started and just Not quite getting there. What helped for me was planning my menu for a few days and counting all the calories in advance and then just keeping really really busy!! These days I count it as a successful day if I've had less than 50g carbs, and while j do aim to try to stick to 800, I virtually never do. There's just too much food in my life, and my days are too long (up at 5am this morning) and I'm on the go all the time. I have found that by keeping the carbs low and completely avoiding the really bad ones, I am still losing weight and also still getting the sugar free benefits and reducing my cravings.

I've come in way over calories at 1500 today but I have been so busy I've probably burned it all off! Plus still under 50g carbs. It's been the slivers of cheese during the day that have added up! To be fair though, I did watch the kids bake chocolate cupcakes and did not so much as dip a finger in the batter. So a little NSV for me!
Another busy day tomorrow- my dad and I are reorganising the furniture in our bedrooms, so lots of lifting and moving wardrobes etc. I don't graze so much when I have adult company either, so I'm hoping for a better day!

OP posts:
RueDeDay · 11/04/2017 18:18

Well inspired by your post bear I've had a day under 40g of carbs... Have been struggling to lose for the last few days, just keep hovering around the same range, so crossing my fingers that focusing on carbs for a few days helps!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/04/2017 19:39

I have had such a busy day grafting hard, moved 5 big IKEA wardrobes and swapped the doors over on a further 4. Plus moved bed, chest and all of the contents- twice! Flipping knackered, and there isn't much j wouldn't do for a cold g&t right now!

Just tallied up my calories- 833 and 19g carbs. Do any of you get that weird 'stomach digesting itself' feeling when you eat really really low carbs? I have it now and it's equally unsettling and motivating! What I should do is close the kitchen and bask in my success, but what I really want to do is eat a small something as I'm still hungry! I'm going to have pint of water, pick dd up from the cinema, then decide what to do,,,,,!!

OP posts:
Justonemorecupoftea · 11/04/2017 23:16

Bear, I'm exhausted by your moving wardrobes, grand job! I was hoping for a bigger drop this week but just another 1 lb which isn't a disaster but I can't help crossing fingers for more Smile
This coming week is tricky because of holidays and my birthday so I'm not going to be very silly but I'm bloody well having some fizz. We are on holiday at ski resort with many meaty restaurants so if I avoid chips I'll be fineWink I hope. Well done all on continuing to lose and motivate 😘

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/04/2017 08:11

Weighed in today at 11.12 so another 1.5 off and making 11 in total after 2.5 weeks Smile

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/04/2017 21:05

Good evening all. It feels like Friday but it's only Wednesday- that can only mean one thing!! The kids are at granny's!!

Took my dd out for a nice lunch today at the harvester but I had lots of salad, a chicken stack thing with no fries and no dessert. Felt very virtuous.

Haven't counted calories today but everything on plan except a small amount of bbq sauce. Just had a small steak and some asparagus wrapped in Parma ham (dh's favourite) but it was way too salty for me.

I'm feeling very in control and 'on it' at the moment. I think the difference this time is the restriction of certain types of carbs even within the allowance, as they clearly are my kryptonite. I do keep having drooling fantasies about cake though.....!

Hope you're all doing well? What are everyone's plans for the bank holiday?

OP posts:
Scandicat · 12/04/2017 22:19

Hello everyone.

Well done Bear - great loss. And well done on your virtuous lunch.

I've been away at MILs. Was reasonably good, ate lunch out today and had a jacket potato with tuna mayo and left most of the potato. But then I had a fruit scone with jam and cream Shock. It was good though. Couldn't weigh this morning but weighed tonight when I got home and I'm roughly the same as I was on Tuesday morning, so hoping to be back to my lowest in the morning.

Oh, and NSV. Bought some black stretch cropped trousers from Gap. The size 8s fit. I know they are stretchy but that's a very good feeling.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 13/04/2017 09:39

Excellent losses bear - you are doing fabulously!
And great news about the size 8s Scandi NSVs like that can be a good motivator.
I'm trying different types of maintenance approaches atm - some days higher calorie but low carb; some low calorie but higher carb. We were away for a long weekend and did lots of walking which didn't have any impact on my weight but did prove that the step counter on the Samsung app is woefully inadequate.
DS has developed an irritating habit of pointing out every time my arms wobble and even though I have lost between 2 and 2.5 inches from each bicep, I'm thinking I should maybe start using weights again to firm them up.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/04/2017 10:27

I'm with you place , my arms are awful. I also have a weird little bit of armpit fat which makes me very self conscious, but I always wear vests on summer as I hate t-shirt tan lines too. I might join you with the weights to tone up. I bought a thigh toning lotion from boots as well which I've been using on my legs but might try it on my arms too!

Off to iron bridge Victorian village today. I'm sensing that the low carb options in working class Shropshire circa 1890 weren't great..... Might be a day off plan for me!

OP posts:
APlaceOnTheCouch · 13/04/2017 12:48

There might not be many low carb options but there's probably lots of walking bear so hopefully it balances out Wink

I've just checked my measurements and have lost another half inch from my waist and another inch from my hips. Hurrah!

margarethamilton · 15/04/2017 08:20

Watching this thread with interest and admiration! Googled BSD early hours this morning after it was mentioned on another thread. Just bought book and found sample week online from Daily Fail.

Been losing sporadically with WW for a year but I've realised my go to comfort food is carb based. I'm over weight - BMI 26. I have a large middle. For health and vanity, I need to change my way of eating.

I'm pretty active - walk 80000 plus steps every week and do two runs of 3-3.5km. I don't do any strength training though...

Just written a shopping list for this week based on the sample plan. There's one meal out planned but all doable otherwise. I'm vegetarian so it's interesting to see some good options in the plan.

I'd like to lose 28 pounds or so. I'm going to continue getting weighed in at WW for the discipline and tracking but follow BSD principles.

Do you have to religiously measure carbs, fat grams etc. or if I just follow the meal plan, will it work out ok?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/04/2017 19:48

Welcome Margaret! In answer to your question, no, you don't need to count fat/carbs if you follow the book. However, I will say that after 'real life' begins to creep in, it has been very helpful to some of us long term BSDers to have a carb allowance, and aim to keep under 50g, because inevitably there will be times when you will have some carbs, so it's helpful to have a boundary. I will also add that this time, which is my second proper round but third attempt, I have followed the book principles more strictly- (so no pasta, rice, potatoes, bread/grains, sugar) and I haven't needed to count carbs because those are the things that push the carbs up. If you stick to 800 calories, and avoid those foods, it's pretty hard to exceed 50g carbs anyway.

Ironbridge museum was very good, lots of walking. I had a few samples of the delights, (a square of fudge and dh and I shared a piece of fish from ye olde chippy) but all things considered I didn't do too badly. Yesterday not so good, I went totally off plan, probably as a result of Thursday's little tastes of the good stuff.
Today, I've been on plan except for a taste of chocolate fudge icing as I made my Easter cake. Tomorrow, I'm writing off. I'm doing a big roast lamb dinner which shouldn't be too horrific carbs wise, but I will be having an Easter egg, so.......I expect a pound or 2 gain on the scales on Monday. It's annoying too because I'm teetering around the 11.13/12.1 zone and this weekend will inevitably tip me back into the 12s.

I feel like I've found my mojo though, and definitely keeping totally off the 'big 5' has helped me keep on it. I never really gave up the grains before, I'd have porridge or a Ryvita or two for example, but haven't this time and it seems to help.

Happy Easter BSD-ers! Easter Smile

RueDeDay · 16/04/2017 14:58

Happy Easter all! I have had a couple of days away from home and off plan and as a result feel sick, bloated and pimply!! Am actually looking forward to getting home tomorrow and back on track!!

margarethamilton · 16/04/2017 15:30

Not started strictly 'on plan' yet as waiting for the book but I've followed some meal ideas today from the sample menus I've seen online. Breakfast - poached egg, tomatoes, large mushroom, half avocado. Lunch - no carb ploughman's without ham. Resisted the offer of chocolate biscuit with tea. TBH, I'm surprised that I've not felt hungry? Veggie burger with Greek salad for dinner. Avoiding bread and wine will test me later!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/04/2017 21:42

Well. The less said about today the better.

Oh I've eaten some crap today. And still have my Easter egg for Broadchurch!!

Back on it tomorrow though, I feel so bloated and yucky. It's going to have to be a few light days to undo the damage of the bank holiday!

OP posts:
APlaceOnTheCouch · 18/04/2017 12:48

Yesterday was my worst day (and I didn't even get to watch Broadchurch with an Easter egg). However we had a last night of holiday's feast with pizza, chips and ice cream.
Luckily we're back into our routine today so salad for lunch, almonds for a snack and hopefully some walking too.
