Shiny new thread for the BSD'ers. Best thing you can do is first read the MM bsd book do you get a full grasp of what the rules are but in a nutshell:
800 calories a day
No bread/pasta/potatoes/rice
No processed food, no alcohol
As close to no sugar you can get
Full fat, no low fat
Protein to keep you full
2-3 litres of water a day
10,000 steps a day (work your way up)
HIIT if you can 2-3 times a week

What are the tray bakes I have heard mentioned? Are there recipes anywhere for them? I need to expand the variety of the diet, bored of salad :)

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/07/2016 20:30

Orochimaru I haven't really used the book for recipes but here are some of my favourites from the last few weeks:
Lamb steaks and stuffed peppers
Low carb moussaka using aubergine not pasta
Some of Jamie Oliver's things from the 30 'ins book, such as chicken stuffed with herbs and feta, and the satay sauce on chicken breaks

APlaceOnTheCouch · 11/07/2016 20:58

Oroch they're Jamie Oliver traybakes. Quick and easy to make - you just throw everything into a tray and into the oven so we have them quite regularly. There are two chicken recipes and a sausage one.

chicken traybake

sausage traybake

I usually use chicken breast fillets instead and don't add the olive oil, the cals are 257 for the chicken one with carbs of 18.7g. The sausage one is 381 cals for 2 sausages with carbs of 15.8g.

I should probably point out, I'm not sure of the sugar content because I'm not monitoring sugar content. --

APlaceOnTheCouch · 11/07/2016 20:58

Oops bear I forgot to ask, are you still following the book menu plan?

Orochimaru · 11/07/2016 22:20

Thanks couch and bear, those look great

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/07/2016 05:51

Just re read my post from last night, it seems I was tired!! I did try last week to follow the book, but I sort of got lost along the way really, it was a strange old week last week. I know it's not really an excuse, but baby ds was a nightmare, not sleeping, grizzly and generally horrible, I kind of fell off the wagon. This week I've now got the most horrible throat and ears, feel really rotten, so possibly have caught it off him and that does explain his misery because I feel pretty miserable myself! Hence the fact I'm up at 5.45. The key for me to succeed on this is organisation, and I need to do a list and go to the supermarket with my BSD head on! I will try and go today. I do have a few firm favourites from the book though, I like the mushrooms with spinach and goats cheese, and I have also tried the no carb waffles.

princessconsuelabannahammock · 12/07/2016 11:47

Hi everyone mind if i join? I have just downloaded the book and need to start this. I have been low carbing for the last two years and have lost about 2 stone but i struggle with sticking with it in the long term - i believe the science but get frustrated when i dont magically wake up a size 10 after 3 days!!

I had gestational diabetes with both of my pregnancies and hover around 14 stone - down from 16st. I need to just bloody do it! There is diabetes in my family and its a horrible disease and i dont want to be next.

It feels extreme but i did a vlcd with shakes to slim into my wedding dress so i know its doable and i am happy this involves real food and nutrients.

I am going to get back into the swing of low carbing whilst i read the book, that way my appetite will be decreased and then i can start this properly. Off to read the book, the thread and take my measurements!

Not2bObvious · 12/07/2016 11:50

Hi all, checking in from the hols. Thought I wasn't doing too bad but having done 2 weigh in's at the pharmacy the scales tell a different story 😫 Oh well, not a lot to be done bar trying to reel in the vino/cocktail drinking, up the walking & resist the crisps/bread/chips a bit better. Have to try that chicken traybake when I get home. The rest of July will be nil by mouth!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 12/07/2016 13:13

Not2b maybe the scales way differently. Wait until you get back to your own scales. I know my scales always differ from my mum's. I have no idea which ones are right but I only monitor my own scales so at least it's consistent.
My goal dress came. And it is beautiful (and doesn't fit) but its an odd length that I don't think will work on me so I am going to send it back. I ordered a size 12 in a different dress from the same company and it feels a little big. I was resigned to buying 16's when I started BSD so have definitely fallen 2 dress sizes.

Not2bObvious · 12/07/2016 17:35

Oh I'm pretty sure it's not too far off but the thing is I'm not weighing in as I normally do (think they might object to me demanding to use their loo and stripping off at 6am😁) so in that way it's off a bit but I'm looking at 4-7lb up on last wi of 11.2. It'll be ok, a decent week of bsd from next Sunday will undo the worst of it. If only I were one of those people who can't eat in the heat, I seem to make up for them😳 Pity about the dress but woohoo on 2 dress sizes down

Had a reasonable day today, kitchen now closed at 1100 but 80g carbs. I'm feeling pretty grotty, dh working late and kids running rings round me! I just had freezer food for tea which I don't normally eat, had a chicken burger and chips and broccoli. And 2 jammy dodgers. I'm to be kind to myself though as I haven't gone completely mad and I am not well. Not my finest BSD day, although I was seriously contemplating McDonald's earlier so what I eventually had was considerably better that what I could have had! Got a walk planned with a friend tomorrow and, provided I can muster the energy , a beef casserole to slow cook all day. I'm not weighing in til Friday to try and shift my weekend bloat, so hopefully a good day tomorrow will iron out today's blip

H3l3naGraham · 12/07/2016 20:57

On another blasted train journey. Been manic this week. Both food wise + everything else. not2be I am seriously ROTFL laughing at the image you have created, getting down to the raw + naked in a Spanish chemist's..... vvvvvv funny!!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 13/07/2016 01:53

bear I hope you feel better soon Flowers
I ended up eating KFC for dinner. I have been feeling so tired for the last few days, I just couldn't face cooking.
My periods seem to have gone to pot lately too. Has anyone else had this happen? I can't see why BSD would affect them but that would be preferable to being early menopause.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/07/2016 06:36

Place mine went totally haywire! As in, the first few months I had ovulation bleeding for a few days, then my normal cycle has gradually stretched to about 5.5 weeks rather than 4 ( I was always very regular). The weeks in the beginning when I was totally sugar free I had no pmt at all, but this last month after reintroducing some sugar I was horrible. For about 2 weeks, as it seems my body wants to come on after 4 weeks so spends the extra week and a half being really hormonal. I have read on various sites that it's as a result of oestrogen being stored in fat cells so when you lose a lot of dat quickly it plays a bit of havoc with the delicate balance of hormones. I have pcos as well which makes me more sensitive than most!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/07/2016 06:37

lose a lot of fat not dat*
(Went all street there for a moment...)

APlaceOnTheCouch · 13/07/2016 07:27

bear that's really interesting. I couldn't work out why it would impact because when I did Rosemary Conley I probably lost weight at the same rate (in fact - faster- 2lbs per week) but it didn't affect my cycle. But I am having the same issue as you ie usually short, regular cycle but now it's getting longer but with horrendous stomach and backache when I would have normally started my next circle. Any tips on how to deal with it?

APlaceOnTheCouch · 13/07/2016 07:28

Cycle not circle - duh!

Oblomov16 · 13/07/2016 07:38

I am back. I have put on 7lbs. Sad on Monday dh and I did an all day, 24 Hour fast and only drank water.
But then yesterday I ate chilli nuts and wholenut chocolate. Why? Why did I do that? We had a carb free stir fry for dinner.
Clearly I'm all over the place and need to 'get back with the programme'.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 13/07/2016 07:46

Welcome back Oblomov Flowers
I think 24 hour fasts can play havoc with the next day's eating habits. They make me want to eat lots but my stomach feels shrunken so I end up eating small but calorie dense food exactly like chocolate and nuts
If you go back to standard BSD you'll probably find the 7lbs will start to disappear in no time.

GraceGildee · 13/07/2016 07:47

I had three days off for a special weekend and drank many many cocktails and ate chocolate. 6lbs on Blush Coming off again hopefully. It was worth it though.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/07/2016 07:51

Place no real advice really. Evening primrose and starflower oil from Holland and Barrett seem to help with the pmt side but not with the regularity. When I was diagnosed with pcos the doctor said the best thing you can do is control your insulin, which you would think I was doing, or at least improving. I imagine it will settle over time, and it doesn't bother me if I settle into a longer cycle as my baby making days are over now! What k hate is the two weeks of feeling 'due' and all the cravings and bloated feeling and complete bitchery which go with it!!
Oblo draw a line. Start again. We've all done it. Tbh I think I would go a big mad after a 24 hour fast! Get lots of good fats in today, and try to keep your carbs low to stop reigniting the cravings. I find sometimes too much water leaves me feeling a bit flushed out, and leaves me hungry (weirdly) so what about having herbal tea instead?

H3l3naGraham · 13/07/2016 11:10

Fat cells store all sorts, many nasties, if hormones are being 'temper'a'mental' .... great word eh.....? I'd look at natural remedies like the ones I used during my menopause, I never went the HRT route' supplements like Black Cohosh (?) Victoria Health stocks some complete formulations like I used (2 tablets a day)but there's a load else on the web

Oblomov16 · 13/07/2016 11:17

Thank you Couch, Grace and Bear.
I will get back on it!! laughing at Grace :"it was worth it though". Ha ha. That's exactly how I feel. Grin clearly that's not the attitude we should have. Blush

Actually, because I have done mosley's 5:2 fast before, and because I have now been eating this way for 6 months (yes really, practically and anniversary!! - give or take a few discretions Wine Chocolate [crisps] [chilli nuts]) I think that's why I found the 24 hour water fast easy. REALLY easy. I didn't think about food AT ALL. was not an issue. Surprised how easy I found it. My mum does a 2-3 day water fast every 6 months or so, has done for years. She says it is very hard, but makes her feel fab. I know it really isn't part of THIS woe (way of eating), its not recommended for this particular mosley regime, but I did enjoy it, will do it again, and will manage the next day better - with meals planned, a good 3 low carb meals, already sorted will help.

In the mean time, lots of water, back on the low carb.

GraceGildee · 13/07/2016 13:01

Oblomov I had a cocktail the size of my head

And one with a whole chocolate truffle in it.
And ice cream floats for breakfast. I was hardcore.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/07/2016 16:18

Ooooh I'm not having a good day today. I just feel so ill, I've picked at carby rubbish and fruit all day and I just want to curl up and go to bed!! Not optimistic about my weigh in tomorrow, it's s long time since I've had a virus like this where I feel worse every day for a week. It's getting me down, I hate being ill. Hope everyone's having a better time than me?
