Shiny new thread for the BSD'ers. Best thing you can do is first read the MM bsd book do you get a full grasp of what the rules are but in a nutshell:
800 calories a day
No bread/pasta/potatoes/rice
No processed food, no alcohol
As close to no sugar you can get
Full fat, no low fat
Protein to keep you full
2-3 litres of water a day
10,000 steps a day (work your way up)
HIIT if you can 2-3 times a week

Had 1100 planned cals with lower carb (65g), and no flushes today so far. I've never done as low carb as I have on this diet. My longer term 'carb awareness' type diet was the Harcombe diet which was about not combining carbs with fat. I ate porridge and fruit every morning with fruit and yoghurt, then low carb for the rest of the day. I was probably around 75g a day, although I didn't track what i was eating.

Still waiting for results of blood tests, but I'm not expecting there to be any issues from them now!

Very quiet on here - how is everyone ? Newaverage must be lovely to have your own apples..warm apple pie with cinnamon and ice cream is prob my favourite thing to eat...bet there is a healthy version on the internet.

morevelma that is a fantastic loss - esp with the higher cals.

Dont worry about an occasional off plan meal Rach.

I have been doing quite well with the new reipe book if not so well with sticking to 800 and actually losing weight so far I have tried the skinny cottage pie - yum!, thai curry - fine, bircher thing with coconut milk, chia seeds, oats etc and used the last of the roasted tomoato in an omlette with parma ham and herbs. Why does my food always look so orange and green!

yum your food looks yum. Grin
I made a lemony chilli cauliflower soup yesterday which was amazing. It wasn't from the new book but I have marked off a few recipes I want to try.
DH's friend was over at the weekend. He's been doing BSD for months. It was nice to have someone in RL to chat BSD with.
I've been quite busy so haven't even managed a WI.

I'm going to have a break for 4 weeks - see if I can keep the weight off (or lose more) on my own. Whatever happens I'll be back on it in 4 weeks time for another 8 weeks - that'll take me right up to Christmas.

Hot flushes have definitely stopped, and I've had much more energy for exercise already this week. Back to running 5ks and doing weights.

So, see you at the end of October!

Grin Aplace! How great to meet someone doing this in rl, no one seems to have heard of it that I have mentioned it to. I feel a bit embarrased to admit to the 800 cal thing in rl though so maybe other people just dont mention it either.

Pfrench if you are feeling so much better on higher carbs and cals it sounds like a break is defo the way to go, do update us though!

yum I'm not sure if he would have admitted to it if it wasn't for the fact he's good friends with DH so he had told DH and then DH had told me iyswim
We were swopping stories of our favourite BSD-compatible desserts whilst DH looked Confused
DH is always a healthy weight so he is a bit bemused by my different weight loss schemes. Grin

Morning Campers! hi-de-hi!!

Goodness its been quiet in here.

Agree with yum, couch, and bear, the 8 weeks is ok, I don't think MM could have made it 24, but it doesn't help those of us, most of us, who have more to lose.

Likes idea of couch someone in RL about it!
French, see you in a month.
Like yum, I now have the new recipe book. But here photos look lovely, I haven't opened mine yet.

The reason being that I have just got back form my girls weekend away to Bruges. Its a miracle I manger to get my ass into the car to come home. I will now shock you with what I ate:

5000 calorie!!

full breakfast in the hotel
cheese and wine tasting
lunch of fried cheese, salad and chips and wine.
waffles with chocolate and ice-cream. and wine.
wine while getting ready to go out.
wine in the bar waiting for the cab.
Poshesh restaurant in Bruges: 6 courses, with a G&T to start, with matched wines - about 4 bottles.
1 bottle of wine back in hotel bar @ 1am, with cheese and nibbles.

Blush

I haven't put on any weight. In fact I've lost 1 lb!
I still have a stone to lose.

must get back on it.

Wink

bear I could have weitten your posts aa my whole September haa been written out with false starts. In my case was the oldest dd birthday..

Not only the normal things mentioned in the book but also dairy is a big trigger. Cheese especially.
I did struggle in the first 8 weeks but know that for me not to have triggers I need the carbs to be below 30g. Also calories counting because otherwise I overeat. So I need to somehow calorie counting forever.
I restarted yesterday morning until bootcamp starts and will do that but having to keep an eye on calories.
Do we have a thread for those people after the 8 weeks?

Newaverage I like reading your posts and hearing about delicious food. I think this is one of those diets people will come back to when they are ready after a break so no harm keeping it on your radar so long as its not making you feel bad. Actually although I havent been too bad foodwise I havent been great at calorie counting or restrictingg this week so I am up on my lowest fluke weigh in last week - I think tmi reasons are in play so going to drink water and eat lentils today! I am not that dissapointed because I am yoyoing at a slightly lower point now.

Notsoold maybe as we are getting to 1000 we could have a long termer thread, leaving space for a more hard core 8 week thread - it does seem like there are so many different ways to take the 2nd phase of weightloss that people will end up gravitating to bootcamp, 5:2 or MFP style calorie counting. I guess this doesnt mean that the BSD element hasn't worked - just that we are all different and sort of lean towards different elements that work for us.

Sorry just to drone on - notsoold I have also come to the conclusion I need to watch What I eat, How many calories I eat, and When I eat. Sigh. And exercise {more sighing}. So one positive of this diet is that it has confirmed that for me.So we need to start calling it a way of life...bah ;)

I've just started this and am now into my fourth day. I'm doing it as a precaution really - my sister has PCOS & takes Metformin, and I've started giving fasted blood sugar readings right on the limit of pre-diabetic. I've been a bit shocked at how quickly the weight has come off in 4 days - 5lbs already. Goal is to lose between 15 and 20 lbs.

It hasn't been too bad so far. I made the first two days easy by buying breakfast, lunch and dinner from a takeaway near my office that caters for the bodybuilding crowd (everything is very healthy & marked with macros), but I want to start cooking properly now.

I've just made this week's breakfasts - a twist on Savoury Mince which is a childhood favourite. Basically just 400g extra lean mince, 2 tbs worcestershire, a few tbs of tomato puree, a Knorrs Gravy pot and a ridiculous amount of vege (carrots, onion, celery, frozen spinach) and herbs. Normally you would serve it up on buttered toast but I'm having it with a boiled egg crumbled across the top instead! Just under 250 calories total including the egg.

I'm really excited to see if this diet works - I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi everyone...so I had a lovely weekend went for a spa day with chocolate croissants and prosecco to start then salad and a chicken flat bread thing for lunch - so basically 100% off plan. Then sunday eve we had late sunday roast (lamb took ages) with low sugar crumble dish for desert. 3 lbs up this morning so will be happy to get those lbs off rather than losing this week. It defo wasn't a detoxy break!

Bit better today, under 1100 and planning for 800 tomorrow. I have worked out my meals for tomorrow but am having cravings for sweet potato so might have to work that in.

I decided I should try and work on dc's food a bit so bought this book from the book people superfoods superkids I am very surprised - I expected low sugar but it is properly low carb. Not sure it will work for my dc but I think I might find a lot if inspiration for myself!

Welcome Ruby sounds like an excellent start!

Your spa day sounds like bliss yumyum
It is so cold here. All I want to do is eat comfort food. But I was pleasantly surprised with myself yesterday. I went to a takeaway shop to grab something for lunch and automatically ordered omelette and salad. It was only when walking back to the office that I realised I'd ignored the chips and rolls on offer. and ok I spent at least some of that time wishing I had ordered the chips but the point is I didn't Grin

Wow well done aplace something is obviously changing and you have a new normal!

little bit of spa day gain off today - actually I might be able to lose a little on top of that this week if I am fairly careful. Aiming for 800 today. I have just done an insanity max 30 hiit workout - working from home today so have just had breakfast/lunch - leftover lamb shoulder fried with stir fry veg in a GF chia and what not wrap with half an avacado and corriander. Deeeelicious and easy.

Yours sounds delicious too - yum! Only problem with mine is that the lamb was very calorific so not really left with many calories for the rest of the day. Herbal tea it is then Envy need to keep reminding myself today is a fast day and tomorrow I will go higher cals!

I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to tell if one's breath smells, without asking someone? I read that a low carb diet can cause that, but that you won't know yourself.

Report

Weird trick but if you lick the inside of your wrist and let it dry then sniff it you can tell if your breath smells.
Probably the weirdest post I've ever added to a thread.....
