Shiny new thread for the BSD'ers. Best thing you can do is first read the MM bsd book do you get a full grasp of what the rules are but in a nutshell:
800 calories a day
No bread/pasta/potatoes/rice
No processed food, no alcohol
As close to no sugar you can get
Full fat, no low fat
Protein to keep you full
2-3 litres of water a day
10,000 steps a day (work your way up)
HIIT if you can 2-3 times a week

Michael Moseley? I'll look it up and download to my kindle.

yumyumpoppycat · 18/09/2016 09:21

that's the fella - its the 8 week blood sugar diet rather than the fast diet one.

Rachcakes · 18/09/2016 09:31

The plan my PT has me on he just calls an insulin plan, but it seems to follow pretty much the same rules.

It's early days for me but he says in the next stage we'll discuss cheat meals. He specifies cheat meals, planned in advance, as opposed to cheat days. One of his clients has a pizza, another loves a curry. Psychologically, he says delayed gratification is better than giving in to cravings. You enjoy it more, because you are in control. Makes sense.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/09/2016 19:22

I am loving the new recipe book! Feel very motivated for the week ahead now- I've done 3 days sugar free so from tomorrow I'm trying to have a week of 800s but in reality it's more likely to be 1000s but even so,

APlaceOnTheCouch · 18/09/2016 19:37

bear would you recommend the new book then? I'm wondering if it will help to keep me on track.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/09/2016 21:40

Yes. I got it on my kindle for about £8, it's got a nice recap of all the basics and then some recipe ideas. I think it will help me as I am so bored of calorie counting so I've just done my menu/ shopping list doing 1 breakfast, 1 lunch and 1 dinner each day and I'm not going to count every single calorie IYSWIM. I also find I read it and was reminded of all sorts of yummy things I used to make before I got lazy!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/09/2016 21:42

Also there is a recipe for flapjacks which I'm disproportionately excited about. Obviously they'll be just for the kids.....

yumyumpoppycat · 18/09/2016 22:04

Sounds good Rach! DP's sis is doing something similar at a gym and had great results. They have an hour a week where you can eat anything and at first it was tempting for her to binge but now she is over that and enjoying it a bit more.

Had 1700 cals yest but did a lot of eavy stuff in the garden and a weights workout and my loss stayed off! woo hoo!! Made an effort to plan ahead a bit on MFP this am, I used the food eaten recently function and it actually reminded me of a jar of roasted peppers languishing in the fridge which was a bonus. I also found some lentils in the cupboard as my fibre content is always really low and these really helped boost fibre to 19g which was good for a low cal day.

There was a slight slip though...planned not to eat dinner but made really good quality burgers for the dc and there was half left a one over, I was just having a taste... but it was so yum... I snarfed it up Blush

VVv tempted to buy the recipe book Newaverage but I am turning into a healthy eating bookaholic. If I lose 2lbs or the book goes down in price £2 I am going to buy it. Actually when I was looking at it on look ahead my lap top accidentally bought it and I had to return it.

PS green lentils, smoked salmon, baby leaves, roasted pepper, poached egg - it shouldnt work but was yum.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/09/2016 22:14

The actual book version was cheaper on Amazon than the kindle version (kindle books are taxed apparently or some other yawntastic fact) if that helps.
I just sold all my slimming world books on gumtree and all my back copies of the magazine for £30. Literally today! Having a massive clear out of clothes and other stuff as we are moving. But selling the sw books makes it clear to me that, while I may not be good for more than a day, ever very often, I have changed the way i eat for life. I cannot see myself reverting back to a low fat high carb way of eating. For those who remember, I clung onto my sw meetings for a long time even though I wasn't following their plan, but I haven't been for ages now and the books had to go because they are all pile your plate high, low fat, artificial sweeteners and spray oil yucky stuff. I'm a changed woman!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 18/09/2016 23:10

I was reminded of all sorts of yummy things I used to make before I got lazy!
I relate to this. When I started, I discovered lots of new recipes and now I feel like I can't be bothered.
I think I'll download the book.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 19/09/2016 08:13

WI this morning and I have finally dropped into starting with a 10! Hurrah! 🎊🎉
I was worried for a while that I wasn't going to lose any more but getting back into the school routine has definitely helped.
I am so grateful for this thread. In the stretches where nothing seems to happen, I would be so tempted to give up if it wasn't for this thread and all you wonderful posters - thank you Flowers

pfrench · 19/09/2016 10:10

I've got 2 weeks left of the 8 weeks, and have had a week of no proper loss - up and down over 1.5lbs - so am going back to being strict for these two weeks. I've been around 900 cals a lot this week, so no more sneaky coffees :(

Bought a pair of skinny jeans that don't look too bad though, so that's a win!

Oblomov16 · 19/09/2016 11:49

Pulled pork. Made it yesterday and had it hot with lots of onions that I'd used to rest the pork shoulder on.
Now having it cold, with a tiny bit of salad, at work.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/09/2016 12:36

Looks delicious! I only discovered pulled pork a few weeks ago and I've been making it a lot recently! Love those yellow tomatoes as well.
I'm cooking up a storm today- waiting in for dh's company car to be delivered, baby is poorly so I'm just in the kitchen. I've made some little crustless quiches with sundried tomatoes, olives, basil and cheese for lunches and the chicken and chorizo casserole from the new book. The house smells amazing! It reminds me I of those first few weeks when I would so look forward to my meals and wouldn't spoil my appetite with snacks.

pfrench · 19/09/2016 14:16

I'd like to eat those quiche jobbies for lunch, but I always have an egg breakfast... all those eggs just wouldn't work with my gut. Shame. Maybe I should be doing crustless quiche for breakfast instead.

yumyumpoppycat · 19/09/2016 14:31

Ooh Oblomov and newaverage food looks yum Star

Fantastic to get down to 10 stone something aplace that is brilliant, well done for persevering Flowers

Pfrench I think nearly all of us had a week where we stalled on the initial 8 weeks, apparently it can happen when you are losing inches, there is some internet theory that the fat cells fill up with water before shrinking. Good non scale victory with the trousers.

I have had a (deliberate) high cal day today and feel totally stuffed. I bet I have more on a grazy accidental high cal day but feel less satisfied. Yesterday I was just under 1000 instead of 800 so I might have to make up for it with 3 800 days instead of 2. My plan is 1600 today, 800 tomorrow, wed, fri, 1100 thu and sun, 2000 saturday. It could all go horribly wrong though!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/09/2016 17:32

This is my dinner - chicken and chorizo casserole from the new book and some veg. It looks a huge portion. I'm not calorie counting per se, just having a breakfast, lunch, dinner combination from the book and a small treat/snack. So that's kitchen closed for me!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/09/2016 17:32

Oops here it is!

Loungingbutnotforlong · 19/09/2016 19:59

Very impressed with all the photos of the delicious looking good! Crust less quiche- look great! Might have to try making a batch sooner rather get than later. Half a pound up over the weekend- still not shifted that bad 'whoop it's the weekend' feeling, but better than my usual two pounds! Back on plan today.

Rachcakes · 19/09/2016 20:19

I had spag bol for my tea tonight, but had it on shredded iceberg lettuce instead of pasta. It was lovely!

yumyumpoppycat · 19/09/2016 22:18

0.5 after a weekend is not bad at all lounging! I am a bit apprehensive about tomorrows weighin tbh, now feel in a really bad mood despite high cals!

Your plan sounds excellent new average, I was browsing the bsd forum and some people have had great results just following the recipes.

Rach its a revelation skipping pasta - it really is the sauce that is yum rather than the pasta!

MoreVelmaThanDaphne · 20/09/2016 09:16

Hello,

Signing in as I am starting the BSD today.

Planning to do 8 weeks and then either continue with some form of AF (5:2 etc) or just go hardcore and do another 8 weeks.

I need to lose 30 kilos - aiming for 15 kilos before Christmas. Ambitious, yes? Just following the advice in the book about having ambitious and aggressive weight loss goals being more successful. I have mucked about for years trying to lose weight slowly and it hasn't worked so it can't hurt to try something different.

I'm not Type 2 (yet) and my blood sugar levels are "normal" but towards the higher end of normal. However, I developed gestational diabetes in my last pregnancy and have gained weight since then due to eating as a way of surviving the crazy lack of sleep (just finished 2 years BF: night feeding etc). I carry my weight mostly around my middle and boobs and I want to do this for health reasons. Hope to get some energy back too.

There are loads of great tips on these threads, I have been reading with interest, thanks.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/09/2016 11:39

Welcome velma you'll find lots of support here!
Yumyum yes I need a break from calorie counting it's too obsessive for me and I start bartering with myself and negotiating treats and then forget food I've eaten and end up at 1500 cals. But still feel like I've been dieting all day!! So by just planning the meals that's just what I have IYSWIM and then I seem to be able to switch off from it a bit.
I have a rotten mouth ulcer today, which sounds like nothing but it's so painful and I feel and sound like I've been to the dentist as I've numbed it with teething gel! It's putting me off eating though, which is surely a good thing!

MoreVelmaThanDaphne · 20/09/2016 13:34

Quick question about exercise calories - I'm doing C25K at the moment and tend to burn about 400ish cals every day on this. I'm planning to up the cals to 1200 on days that I run, so that my net cals are 800. I won't bother giving extra cals for walking, gardening, biking to school etc.

What do others do with cals used up by dedicated exercise? (rather than 10,000 steps etc which I don't plan to count).

My additional calories will be a homemade protein shake post run plus a little extra protein/berries at meals.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/09/2016 13:43

Lovely Greek style salad for lunch with ham, and balsamic vinegar. Very salty though with olives and feta, so must make sure I drink more water than usual this afternoon or I'll get the munchies later on!
