Shiny new thread for the BSD'ers. Best thing you can do is first read the MM bsd book do you get a full grasp of what the rules are but in a nutshell:
800 calories a day
No bread/pasta/potatoes/rice
No processed food, no alcohol
As close to no sugar you can get
Full fat, no low fat
Protein to keep you full
2-3 litres of water a day
10,000 steps a day (work your way up)
HIIT if you can 2-3 times a week

I found that a few months into BSD, my cycle became irregular; I had cramps and backache (which I hadn't had for years!); hot flushes and spots! iirc some other BSDers on here had similar problems. It seems to have settled slightly now.
I couldn't tell if it was related to BSD or age-related (I'm 41). I still don't know tbh Confused

pfrench · 14/09/2016 22:53

How many months are you in to it? I'm only coming up to 6 weeks, my skin is alright, but no arrival of period (not pregnant), and the hot flush thing is going on. I'm 42.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 15/09/2016 07:57

I've been doing BSD for about 5.5 months.

whatsonyourplate · 15/09/2016 11:41

Just finished week 4. We haven't always been 100% strict (we don't count milk in tea and coffee and had a big breakfast out one day), but I have lost 9.5 lb and DH has lost 1st 5.75 lb. The new recipe book arrived this morning so I will have a good read of that to get some new ideas for the next few weeks. Onwards and downwards!

Cherrypi · 15/09/2016 12:05

What do you think of the recipe book whatsonyourplate? I'm quite impressed. Good to have some new ideas.

whatsonyourplate · 15/09/2016 12:15

Only had a quick look so far but it looks quite good. Excited to see a recipe for cauliflower cheese - I'll be trying that (had cauli mash yesterday it was lovely!). I was quite surprised to see oat based porridge recipes, I've been missing porridge!
One negative - I can't understand why the calorie count text is so small (or do I need my eyes testing??).

Oblomov16 · 15/09/2016 12:49

Hello all.
I am still in a weird place, doing well some days and then blowing it on wine or some food other days.
This month, September, I lost a bit (7lbs)and then put a bit on (2lbs). God, I need to get this sorted. I need to get back down below the 10 stone mark. I was there beginning of April and I MUST get there again.

grace's food always looks so tasty. I am so bored with food. Fed up of eating bland food and veg and salads. Then I go and wolf crisps down, or something just as bad. I seem to having salt cravings.

Like Rose, my weekend socialising is killing me.
was impressed (polishes halo Wink ) for Bear, with her shop at lidl and being organised.

Fascinated by French and her questions about hormones. The more I think about it, I suspect that all our hormones are being affected. That's not good is it?

Right. I have 2 weeks till I'm off to Bruges (last year we did Prague) with 3 girl friends. Can I be good until then?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/09/2016 12:50

I seem to have rediscovered my mojo today thank goodness. This is my lunch of mushrooms, goats cheese, wilted spinach and sundried tomatoes. Not sure of calories exactly but under 200.

YUM!!

Cherrypi · 15/09/2016 13:21

The calories are big in the kindle version. Can't remember the bit about vinegar being good in the main book.

whatsonyourplate · 15/09/2016 14:04

This is a page from the new book - you can't even read the calories/ protein/ carbs info as the resolution of the photo isn't good enough, but see what I mean about it being tiny?

whatsonyourplate · 15/09/2016 14:05

(it's the blurry writing to the right of the method!)

APlaceOnTheCouch · 15/09/2016 14:20

Gosh Whatsonyourplate that is tiny. Which seems odd since for many people the entire point of purchasing the book is to be able to check calories and carbs Shock

I've lost 1lbs so far this week. I'd been stuck for ages at the same weight so I'm not sure what's made the difference this week although I have been trying to add more steps eg walking round my office when I'm on the phone.

The hormones question is fascinating. I do think sometimes medical diet research forgets to consider the different impact on the different sexes and how it will impact on women, hormones, etc.

Twinmama32 · 15/09/2016 15:43

De-lurking to join you all... I'm on day4 and I'm struggling, feel weak at bit lightheaded and a bit flat emotionally. Please tell me this will pass?!
I used to 5:2 but needed a change after an extended stop/start attempt. Trying to reset my system as I have pcos so insulin resistant. Once I've nailed it (I hope!) I'll revert to 5:2 but during 3 of the non fd will be low carb as that is definitely my weakness.
I'm 12.5st today I think I was 12.8 on Monday (forgot to write it down and I'm so spaced out I can't remember!) so starting with that figure. I'd like to get to 11st or 10.13 just for kicks! Wink

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/09/2016 17:02

And here's my tea! Salad and turkey steak 'pizza' although we had no tomato purée so it's pesto instead.

Yum again.
More photos of food please. It's colourful, cheery and is inspirational and motivates me.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 15/09/2016 20:13

bear that looks amazing! I never think to make creative pizza bases out of protein.

pfrench · 15/09/2016 20:43

Looks good. I cook a tomato sauce with peppers and pepperoni in it, then cook a chicken breast in it and melt cheddar on top. Pizza flavours, none of the carbs. In fact, I prefer it to real pizza.

Cannot wait for the weather to break here, is horrifically hot and stuffy still at almost 9pm. Not helping my hot flushes!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/09/2016 21:03

Those turkey breast steaks are good because they are the right thickness and cook at the right time so the cheese doesn't just burn off. I imagine it could be nice with steak too, maybe with caramelised onions and blue cheese instead of cheddar.....
Traditional pizza topping is nice on them too.
It's been a good day for me today, I've ended on 1200 but that's good for me and no sugar, 55g carbs. Happy with that!

yumyumpoppycat · 15/09/2016 21:13

Well done Newaverage! I am defo going to try that, my local tesco express had turkey steaks in but they are so boring this will be the perfect way to jazz them up!

I am debating whether to buy the new recipe book is it worth £10?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/09/2016 12:20

Lunch today- spinach and goats cheese omelette, cherry tomatoes and a splash of balsamic. I had porridge for breakfast cooked with raspberries in so it went a bit jammy, which was lovely and carb-a-licious but as a result I've been hungry since about 10. Hence the whopping 3 egg bad boy, although the baby will have some and he's a gannet like his mother.

I have been low carb (as in under 25g of carbs per day) since June to great results. My blood sugars are normal and not pre diabetic anymore.
But now party season is on for us with birthdays galore. A lot of treats use some sugar replacement but I went without any sweetners and would like to avoid them as much as possible and still provide nice and tasty party food . I will be the main cook but where do I start to look for recipes, please? I am at loss...
Thank you

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/09/2016 20:15

Do you mean sweet or savoury? For savoury you could do little crustless quiches or ham crust quiches, chicken legs, prawns/tempura prawns and dips, loads of crudités and hummus. Of course you can put out some more naughty treats for your guests but not eat them or just have a taste if you have will power?
For sweet, that will be harder. A lot of the sugar free recipes just use puréed banana or mango, or things like dates etc which isn't going to fool a bsd dieter! They also aren't too pleasant for people who eat sugar, so you might need to provide a real sugar option. I made a 'cheesecake' with marscarpone cheese, raspberries and sweetener/stevia, purée half the raspberries and swirl through the cheese, use the rest as decoration- it was lovely but very calorific (can be frozen into ice cream too, FYI)
You are very disciplined, I have a week of birthdays in two weeks and I am already dreading knowing that I'll be face first into the cake.....
