Shiny new thread for the BSD'ers. Best thing you can do is first read the MM bsd book do you get a full grasp of what the rules are but in a nutshell:
800 calories a day
No bread/pasta/potatoes/rice
No processed food, no alcohol
As close to no sugar you can get
Full fat, no low fat
Protein to keep you full
2-3 litres of water a day
10,000 steps a day (work your way up)
HIIT if you can 2-3 times a week

They are weird aren't they? I didn't like the texture of them at all, or the gram flour recipes. When I did the first round of 8 weeks I cut out all fruit and it definitely curbed my snacking but then I was coming from a slimming world background where you can eat tons of fruit.

pfrench · 11/09/2016 08:16

I came from the Harcombe diet which is lower carb, but slightly about combinations of food too. So fruit with a carb meal, or on its own. I don't eat much, but that's more choice than anything else. I don't much like the texture of fruit.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/09/2016 09:38

I love fruit, so would eat a lot on slimming world, several hundred calories worth a day. It's no wonder it made a difference when I cut it out. I missed it though and I also got quite ill after a few weeks with loads of chest infections and eventually pleurisy! I must have needed the vitamins.
I've weighed myself this morning and it's not good, my few weeks of bring totally off piste have definitely made themselves known. I must get back on it starting right now. So today, it's breakfast of an omelette, lunch ham and salad and dinner is pulled pork and veg. I will make myself drink more water and NO SNACKING! Have a great Sunday everyone

pfrench · 11/09/2016 10:36

I've just put on a pair of shorts that I tried to put on before my holiday in July. At that point I couldn't do them up, they were tight around my bum and crotch (camel toe... eek)... today they are baggy all round, I don't even need to undo the button to put them off and on. Amazing. I'm only 5 weeks in!

GraceGildee · 11/09/2016 16:42

Hi all, if anyone's interested I've started another 8 weeks of 800 calories thread with photos. I've lost 2.5 stone and would like to lose more and it helps me if I post about it x

Just marking my place.

yumyumpoppycat · 12/09/2016 10:52

Are you starting soon suzy - good luck!

Grace your food look delicious as always. well done on more or less maintaining over hols and back to another phase 1. I guess this is similar to what I did and it worked pretty well, 3rd round is proving hard to get into though and in all honesty I havent lost any new weight since mid june; which isnt terrible as at least it hasnt all gone back on. I think on one level I want to lose the last batch of weight quickly but on another I want to do it more healthily.

I like the sound of your plan too newaverage, I keep meaning to cut dairy for a while - I have done so before a couple of times for whole 30s. I think it is interesting how hard I find it to cut dairy - with grains it is hard for a couple of days and then practicalities aside becomes fairly easy but the dairy cravings seem to last a lot longer. I def become less 'snotty' when I give up dairy and think it does help with weight loss.

My plan this week is to adapt a bit more of the mentality of the 5:2 thread I have been lurking on there a lot, soaking up the tips, so for this week the goals are:
2 days where I MFP properly and stay under* 800 calories with a fasting mentality

  • 3 meals a day on other days cut back on grazing but no calorie or carb counting (other than making a conscious effort to eat well, lots of veg etc)
  • More herbal tea so I am not mainlining milky tea and coffee all day !
Loungingbutnotforlong · 12/09/2016 11:39

Hello all,
grace- your food always looks delicious. Lurking around the site and your food diary thread is one of the reasons why I decided to start BSD!
So the weekend was ok, but I hit my lowest weight in ages on Saturday (yeah!) and then seemed to self sabotage (boo!) not sure why I do this- in previous diets I have been the same- got to a lower weight then almost panicked and started eating! Does anyone else do anything similar? Almost as if I need to give myself permission to be slim. I don't have lots to lose, but I would look so much better with a stone off.
Good luck for everyone today.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 12/09/2016 11:56

Lounging I haven't self-sabotaged as much on BSD but I have in the past. I realised I was so anxious about slipping from my diet that I'd try to pre-empt and control when the slip happened iyswim? It was trying to mitigate the disappointment by making the disappointment within my control. It was as though I felt I was always teeting on the edge of falling off the diet so decided to jump instead because it was less stressful.

Cherrypi · 12/09/2016 12:46

I've had a cough for the last fortnight and I wonder if it's because I've upped my dairy on this diet. Anyone else experience similar? It could just be a coincidence of course.

Happy Monday everyone.

I had a brilliant weekend socially but terrible diet wise. We had friends here, a food festival, too McPhee wine, cake etc etc.

I am back on the wagon now with 4 weeks to go until the next likely fall.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/09/2016 16:01

I've had a reasonable day so far. I didn't start the day with coffee as I normally do, had water instead, but did have milky coffee at about 10.30. It seems to have reduced the carb craving a little - perhaps just breaking a 12 hour fast with milk/dairy is too much lactose? I remember from my gestational diabetes days that certain foods were just off limits on the mornings but we're OK later on so maybe I'll stick with that and lay off the dairy first thing. I can't see me giving it up entirely tbh unless absolutely necessary.
I've been to lidl, got all my food in for my 7 days planned menu (this is a whole other thread but how cheap is lidl??? £90 for a weeks shopping for 5 including nappies!) - the kids are having shepherds pie and I found a frozen portion of a curry I made which was yummy so I'm having that.

pfrench · 12/09/2016 22:54

Is anyone else having sort of hot flushes? I'm wondering if I'm menopausal, but I'm still really young. They only started when I started BSD.

yumyumpoppycat · 13/09/2016 00:31

No to hot flushes Pfrench. I did have 2 periods close together though, but this has also happened once pre BSD (I am 37). Hot flushes probably could be lots of other things too, virus maybe? Low call can def affect cycles etc if you get below a certain % body fat though so prob worth keeping an eye on things. Hope its all ok.

Newaverage v inspiring organisational skills there - and billy bonus finding the frozen curry Grin

Hope cough passes cherrypi. You could always go back to the amount of dairy you were having pre BSD and see if it helps?

Lounging I have done the self sabbatage thing over and over in recent years - our subconscious has a lot to answer for.

I didnt manage a total ban on milky drinks but have had herbal teas since dinner so fairly happy!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 13/09/2016 07:31

pfrench yy to hot flushes and to my cycle having changed. I read up on it and there was a connection between BSD and hormone levels (although I can't remember why) so depending on the balance of your hormones it can affect your cycle etc.

yumyumpoppycat · 13/09/2016 08:04

A place does that mean we shouldnt do BSD?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/09/2016 08:11

It can definitely affect your cycle as oestrogen is stored in your body fat/ produced as a response to the amount of body fat you store (not 100% sure, it's early!) so when you lose weight and quickly, your hormones can go a bit haywire as they are all homeostatic (in balance with each other). This is why with pcos insulin and testosterone are so fluctuating. It is bound to have effects on pre menopausal symptoms I would imagine.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 13/09/2016 09:32

yum I don't think it means we shouldn't do it. It just means there will be fluctuations. iirc it depends on your original hormone balance, how much you will be affected. Hormone levels change all the time anyway and I haven't read anything that says it will cause early menopause but it may be worth having a chat with your GP if you're worried about it. and then you can report back to the rest of us!

Cherrypi · 13/09/2016 09:34

That's interesting about the hormones thenewaveragebear. Lost my first stone. Took four weeks. Another two to go. Also squeezed into my size 14 jeans though may have to put on something cooler.

pfrench · 13/09/2016 11:24

I'm seeing a doctor next Wednesday, will let you know.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 13/09/2016 12:43

pfrench excellent! I'd feel a bit of a charlatan going to the GP just to ask about hormone levels but I am interested to hear what they say.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/09/2016 16:01

I don't think it can cause an early menopause, if anything by removing the insulin highs and lows the impact on the other hormones will be greater stability and should actually alleviate symptoms.

pfrench · 13/09/2016 18:51

Oh no, I'm not thinking that it's causing an early menopause - I think my genes are causing early menopause. I'm just trying to find out if there might be other causes of my hot flushes.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/09/2016 19:20

It could likely be the hormonal fluctuations as everything settles down
