Shiny new thread for the BSD'ers. Best thing you can do is first read the MM bsd book do you get a full grasp of what the rules are but in a nutshell:
800 calories a day
No bread/pasta/potatoes/rice
No processed food, no alcohol
As close to no sugar you can get
Full fat, no low fat
Protein to keep you full
2-3 litres of water a day
10,000 steps a day (work your way up)
HIIT if you can 2-3 times a week

I have the same problem notsoold as 5:2 wasnt for me but I really would like to make it work this time, I tried 5:2 when the eat what you like 5 days a week theory existed though back in 2012/13 so its very different now - maybe I will lurk on the 5:2 thread a bit more.

I havent counted carbs when losing weight tbh..more gone for meals that make me feel full and non blood sugary and aimed for cal count to be under 1000. MM doesnt give a carb guideline in the book, its more about what you eat and beans and lentils get a thumbs up?

If counting carbs works though one option is to increase the carbs slowly and methodically to see the sweet spot where you can still lose weight on the 5:2 method? Marks daily apple has some info on the carb curve and it varies from person to person how many carbs they can have whilst still losing weight [[http://www.marksdailyapple.com/the-primal-carbohydrate-continuum/#axzz4Ip4bKnBo mda]

Another option is to subtract fibre from carb count to allow more fibe rich food to be eaten whilst sticking to the 50g tool, so using My fitness pal:
50 g of boiled lentils = 10g carbs - 6g fibre = 4g carbs to count,
white 50g slice of hovis = 22g carbs - 1g fibre = 21g carbs to count.
So 2 portions of white bread would use up most of the carb limit but the lentils would be a small drop in the 50g carb count. If this method didnt work then go back to the usual carb counting method?

Found you!! Thanks bear1983, I have started today, I am 38. 5.2 and weigh 11.8st. Goal is just under 9st.
Have felt at rock bottom but now more determined than ever!

yumyumpoppycat · 30/08/2016 15:03

Forgot to stay you looked fantastic in that dress newaverage!! Mission accomplished. I was sim start and finish stats to you also size 16/14 at start and lost over 20lbs in the 8 weeks.

yumyumpoppycat · 30/08/2016 15:03

sorry to cross post over you - welcome Lndmummy

Lndnmummy · 30/08/2016 15:10

Thanks yummy! May I ask you experienced ladies a question? (I am working my way through the book). I have 18kg to lose. It is unlikely that I manage to lose them all during the 8 weeks, what happens then? Do I keep going until all weight it lost even if that is longer than the 8 weeks?

yumyumpoppycat · 30/08/2016 15:31

I think once you have done with the 8 weeks you will proably have come up with a plan to continue weightloss...maybe a break for a couple of weeks then back to being strict until xmas? Or increase cals to 1000, or add in days off. In theory you go to 5:2 but I am not sure anone on this thread has got the hang of it yet?

Sorry to be tedious but I just looked at my carbs and cals for 3 random days in April when I was on it with MFP and around 800 cals, and if I do the thing of subtracting fibre I wasnt that far off 50g of carbs even though I wasnt actively counting carbs iyswim!

Loungingbutnotforlong · 30/08/2016 17:18

Hello all- very inspiring stories. Day 1 of BSD for me here today. I have a stone to lose, and loads of lovely events coming up, so lots of motivation Wink
Bear- love the dress pic. I have a weekend away with DH, child free, in 5 weeks so would love to be equally slinky by then. Good luck everyone!

Roseformeplease · 30/08/2016 17:28

Bear. You look amazing.

When I start getting "the hunger" (When watching GBBO) it will be wanting to have your figure that will keep me on the salad. Well done!

Loungingbutnotforlong · 30/08/2016 17:29

Sorry- meant to ask if I can join Blush start weight 11st (5'8 height). Target 10st. Secretly would love to be 9.10 but that hasn't happened since I got married 10 years and two children ago!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/08/2016 17:54

Aw thanks BlushI can see how much I've lost but I still have a little way to go, plus I desperately need to exercise if not for my figure but for my sanity (3dc here)
GBBO- we call it cake-porn in our house!
I've just had bolognese sauce, on veg instead of pasta, with cheese and it was lovely. That's another good thing about this diet, your food tastes amazing if you keep the calories low.
Did anyone watch the Joe wicks programme that was on? He did a nice recipe where he cut an avocado in half and used it to poach an egg in. I don't like avocado but I'm going to try with some roasted pepper halves tomorrow for my brunch!
Kitchen closing at about 900 cals for me which is good, provided the evening munchies don't appear....

APlaceOnTheCouch · 30/08/2016 19:51

I'm currently calculating the calories and carbs in Lemsips, Soothers and cough medicine. I'm feeling lousy and have sent DH for a Chinese (no rice and no carb-heavy sauce) because I can't be bothered cooking.

WelcomeLounging.

Lndnmummy · 30/08/2016 21:01

Right, my first ever kitchen closed today on 980 cap so I went over. My head is killing me and I am dizzy and shaky. But feel proud despite my fail at the calories. It was the jelley beans. Ds had them in a party bag and I just had them all. I don't even like them!!
I was ok morning and until about 2pm but afternoon and evening has been sooo hard. Pls tell me it gets easier.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 30/08/2016 21:30

It does get easier. Well done on completing your first day Flowers
Headaches can be lack of water or salt. If you're prone to snacking later in the day then have something healthy to hand eg peas, carrots, a few nuts.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/08/2016 07:19

I'll second that. Also, it really does get easier the fewer carbs you eat. Sugar is addictive- there's no way I'd have stopped at just the jelly beans! I never/very rarely do 800 cals and if I'm starving and about to crack, then it's better to have excess calories of low carb/high fat food than to dive head first into a family of barney bears (my particular weakness at carb-attack time and they're not even nice!)

pfrench · 31/08/2016 08:16

Cheese is my friend in that regard.

The lentils didn't make any difference to weight loss - went down .8 of a lb overnight.

Oblomov16 · 31/08/2016 09:05

OMFG Bear you look amazing in that dress.
How motivational.
I'm not happy, I have been quite strict for 2 days, drinking largely water. And then am up 1lb after 2 days of being ultra strict. Angry never mind, I've got the bit, back between my teeth now, I'm on a roll!

Oblomov16 · 31/08/2016 09:16

Grace and bear lost 2.5 stone in the 8 weeks.
Yummy and H3 how much did you lose?
What about some of our other 'oldies' lose?
I lost 1 and 3/4, but have since put 3/4 back on. I am so cross with myself.
But this is war, now, for September.
As a type 1 diabetic, on an insulin pump, I am expecting September to have similar affects on my blood sugars as it did in January and February - Ie amazing.

Oblomov16 · 31/08/2016 09:19

Did someone say there was a new dirt book coming out?
Oh yes, I wanted to see that joe wicks programme.off to search for it now.

Lndnmummy · 31/08/2016 09:45

I have lost 1.2kg!! In two days!! How.the.hell?!?!

I know it is water and blah blah blah but frankly I couldn't care less, the number is so motivating to keep me going. Headache, I am so not going to let you stop me!!

Lndnmummy · 31/08/2016 09:50

Oh bear just saw your photo, you look beautiful!! Ok I hear you. I have left some coconut shaving things and raw carrots in the car in case I crack again this pm. It is clearly my weakest time of the day.

I went to bed just after nine as my dh's voice really grated on me. Poor dh he is lovely. Today is a new day.

I downloaded the app so i can keep tabs of the calories.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/08/2016 10:31

4pm is my danger zone, too late for a cup of tea as I'm a terrible sleeper, kids too grouchy for a walk, I do their dinner and always end up picking on bits- when I was properly being good this just didn't happen, so I'd love to be back in that zone again.
Just been into town as we had a viewing on our house, spent my birthday money from dh on 2 dresses from mantaray. I'm planning a big batch cook this afternoon, some casseroles/curries and a shepherds pie plus soup in my soup maker!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 31/08/2016 12:09

Oblomov I lost 12lbs in the first 8 weeks. (My first 8 weeks included about 2 weeks of holidays so I struggled to keep my carbs low).
In total, I've now lost 30lbs.

bear you are inspiring me to batch cook. If I can get through my workload (probably dependent on getting off MN!) then I might use my extra hour this afternoon when DS is at one of his clubs to make some soups and curries.

yumyumpoppycat · 31/08/2016 14:25

I am not 100% sure abut my weightloss as we cant keep the scales out but lost approx 24lbs over the 8 weeks (end of March) then had some breaks etc followed by another strict stint to lose approx another 10lbs (mid June) I gained back a few lbs and currentlly 2-3 lbs heavier than my lowest so need to get strict and ideally lose 5-8 lbs by xmas.

Good meal planning new average!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/08/2016 16:47

Ldnmummy there is a bit of a phenomenon on this plan known as a 'whoosh' when you experience that kind of overnight weightloss. It's usually to do with water retention I'd imagine but often if you have a period of time where your weight loss sticks, keep at it and suddenly 'whoosh' you lose 4lb overnight.
I've had a bloody brilliant day today- it really is good for me this low carb business. Been to the park, no ice cream, water like it's going out of fashion, now just cooking tea for the kids and not even nibbling. Love it!
(Have also, almost, sold my house today after weeks of hassle after our buyers pulled out. Not quite, but nearly, just negotiating the numbers)

APlaceOnTheCouch · 31/08/2016 17:20

bear fingers crossed that the house sale goes through Flowers and well done on the walking and the water.
