Shiny new thread for the BSD'ers. Best thing you can do is first read the MM bsd book do you get a full grasp of what the rules are but in a nutshell:
800 calories a day
No bread/pasta/potatoes/rice
No processed food, no alcohol
As close to no sugar you can get
Full fat, no low fat
Protein to keep you full
2-3 litres of water a day
10,000 steps a day (work your way up)
HIIT if you can 2-3 times a week

Lost 5lbs this week and the week before. Pretty chuffed with that. I'm looking forward to the new cookbook coming out.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/08/2016 08:51

Keepon aw thanks! I've lost 2.5 stone in total if I ignore the 6 lb I gained on holiday and can't shift! I lost 21lb in the 8 weeks. I'm back on it today too, although not calorie counting til tomorrow as we have a family bbq. I'm just going to be low carb, sugar free and just have meat and salad- and no alcohol!
I'm going to do another full 8 weeks like round one. It's been brewing for a while and I've been trying but failing at some sort of maintenance strategy. So it's back to it properly. I am also hoping that once I'm doing the walk to school and back twice every day I might tone up a bit. I haven't done anywhere near enough steps over the holidays and I feel rough for it. I loved that clear headed, 'on it' feeling o had when I was just starting out and I want that back, because the sugar and carbs really do affect my mood as well as my weight.

Yes bear you do look good. Lovely outfit too. I hope to be where you are eventually. Looking forward to the structure of school runs to get my steps up too.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 29/08/2016 10:25

bear you look amazing! The dress really suits your new figure - well done! Flowers

I have had (and am still having) a run of social events here so I've been rubbish. I was out for a meal on Friday night. On Saturday, it was pizza and ice cream with friends who are visiting. Last night, it was pizza again. Today I have a birthday lunch.

Tomorrow, I will be back to full BSD and hoping I haven't done too much damage over the last few days.

pfrench · 29/08/2016 10:30

Well, a week away, a scone with jam and cream yesterday (haha, but it was my last day in Cornwall!), and I've lost a whole lb since last Saturday. Just as well I measured myself, otherwise a lb in a week might have felt a bit unmotivating.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 29/08/2016 11:01

Pfrench you've been on holiday. Any weight loss at all is excellent! I think most of us gained on holiday.

H3l3na nice to see you back. I've missed your updates and the insight into your busy social life Wink I was living vicariously through you.

H3l3naGraham · 29/08/2016 13:57

Hello couch...... social life has been very family orientated, had sis-ou-law staying, then nephew, down from uni, swiftly followed by bro' in law from down-under, then 2 of DH's grown-up grand-daughters plus one fiance..... anyone want to buy a modest Victorian house on the Kent coast, perfect as a b+b and laundry.......mind you was an excuse to come off diet for a bit.....but haven't been too naughty, if we can forget about the wine..... have had a standing order for Prosecco with Sainsbury's.... hic! Our 'official' social life starts again next week, as does the diet, but have just been invited to a neighbour's on Wed for a Thai + they are a chef-standard cook.... will forego the rice + cross my fingers!! ; )

notsoold · 29/08/2016 16:38

I will be working this diet in a better way after the 1st when dh is back to work. School holidays are hard!!!!
But I have a question please.... my willpower will not go on forever and I thought of going into the next bit dietwise.
The book suggests the 5.2 or the med lifestyle.
The 5:2 didn't work for me in the past. Too relaxed and without structure for a gluton like me. The fasting was not a problem but the other days always turned into a tremendous fest time. Should I fast every other day then?
The mediterrean diet is the same problem...
Actually both diets are perfectly fine. The problem is me and my need for sugar and catbs if I have over 50g of carbs daily.
Should I go to a ketogenic diet then?
Please???

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/08/2016 18:28

Why not try a sort of med plan, less than 50g carbs for 5 days and do 2 days med plan 800 calories? So even on the non fast days you are sticking to lower carbs but having more calories of protein and good fats? That's how I interpret the maintenance options. Unfortunately this plan works from having low carbs, low cals and etc and if you stray too much from those basic principles it will lose its effectiveness and the carb cravings will return- we are carb addicts after all Wink
I don't know anything about ketogenic diets sorry

lookingforhope · 29/08/2016 19:41

Wow Bear you look amazing. Totally inspired me now, I want to look like you Smile

Been good today. Salmon salad for lunch and my low calorie, low carb but insanely filling fish soup for dinner, plus went for a run and drank lots of water. Meal out with the in laws tomorrow though. Really don't want to go ... Seems such a waste of calories as I don't like them. Planning to have salad but unable to sit in the same room as my infuriating narcissistic SIL without wine, so there will be alcohol consumed Blush. Hoping to be struck down with flu in the next 24 hours Confused

pfrench · 29/08/2016 20:36

I've used one of the recipes from the book today - chicken in spicey lentils - first time in 3 weeks that I've gone over 50g carbs. Lentils are a bugger!

pfrench · 29/08/2016 20:48

Tasted alright tho.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/08/2016 21:46

Pfrench yes I agree, I'm not a big bean fan to be honest and especially when I add up the calories and carbs!

lookingforhope · 29/08/2016 22:14

I love lentils. I miss them more than bread. How sad is that?

GraceGildee · 29/08/2016 22:52

I've (mostly) low carbed over the holidays and not put any on or lost. I lost two and a half stone in the eight weeks. I still want to lose more so I'll get back on it properly when the kids are back at school and I'm at work again. I went down two dress sizes and one pair of jeans is three sizes less than I was a few months ago. That keeps me off the bread.

notsoold · 30/08/2016 00:33

bear thanks for your reply. I am a carb addict and aware that keep my carbs low is the way to me.
A ketogenic diet is keepinng the carbs really low so you are in ketosis....
I will study your idea. I really like it!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/08/2016 07:13

Oh, so more like Atkins where it's virtually zero carbs? I'm not sure I could do that tbh, I need some green things!
It's day 1 of 56 for me today, starting my 8 weeks of 'proper on it' BSD. We have no food in, will need to do a list and a supermarket trip, so breakfast is black coffee!

pfrench · 30/08/2016 07:19

My boyfriend is a dairy intolerant vegetarian, so aside from eggs, basically vegan. It makes sense that I eat lentils and beans - he's a good cook too. I'm not sure I'm happy eating them, but thus is an experiment so we'll see.

lookingforhope · 30/08/2016 08:37

There are lentil recipes in the BSD book though. Am guessing it's just about small portions?

APlaceOnTheCouch · 30/08/2016 11:50

Lentils always catch me out. If I'm out for lunch, I often order a lentil soup and then when I update my log, I realise it's high carb. I seem to have a memory block where lentils are concerned. Sad

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/08/2016 11:55

Yes small portions, but also as carbs go, lentils etc are quite protein rich as well, as opposed to some other carb sources. One thing I notice when following the book recipes is he'll suggest one veg with it, such as wilted spinach as opposed to the traditional diet mentality (sw!) of pile veg into your plate in abundance, which bumps the carbs up massively. I haven't got it to hand but perhaps on the lentil recipes he foregoes veg altogether as the lentils count towards 5-a-day? The overall carbs is probably similar?

lookingforhope · 30/08/2016 12:44

I need to try artfully scattering a small handful of lentils onto a low cal salad instead of bunging a whole sack of them into a pan with tomatoes and herbs and serving myself a huge portion of lentil soup that is so dense you can stand a spoon in it! Grin Blush It's that moderation thing again! Fish soup again for lunch anyway in advance of dreaded meal out this evening. Have been for another run so feeling motivated.

H3l3naGraham · 30/08/2016 13:51

Grace 2.5st in the 8 weeks is quite remarkable, I was just about to stuff some pumpkin seeds into my mouth, but reading your weight-loss stopped me in my tracks, very well done, brilliant! This is a way of life, not a diet, for a quick fix, DH + I realise we will be doing Med + the 800 on 2 days a week for the rest of our lives if we want to keep healthy. Swimming starts next week, walking started again yesterday, summer is drawing to a close, common sense-September is nearly upon us!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/08/2016 14:05

I know, I can't believe it's 30th August - I love Autumn though, I was eyeing up a nice pair of boots while shoes shopping with ds today!
I'm having a good day so far, just had a salad with some pesto hummus which was yummy, plus some cooked ham. I've also drunk 4 pints of water so far which can't be a bad thing for my poor dehydrated skin and liver!!
