Shiny new thread for the BSD'ers. Best thing you can do is first read the MM bsd book do you get a full grasp of what the rules are but in a nutshell:
800 calories a day
No bread/pasta/potatoes/rice
No processed food, no alcohol
As close to no sugar you can get
Full fat, no low fat
Protein to keep you full
2-3 litres of water a day
10,000 steps a day (work your way up)
HIIT if you can 2-3 times a week

breastfeeding hobnobs
I think it was the breastfeeding cream cakes to up my dairy intake that proved the hardest weight to lose for me Grin

ohthegoats · 18/08/2016 10:19

I gained weight while breastfeeding due to the fact that I hit peak chocolate at around 4 months in, and stayed that way for a year.

Still going OK here - have managed to keep carbs under 50g every day, and also cals under, but am away next week so will just keep an eye on carbs rather than the whole thing. Last I did low carb stuff, I still dropped weight very quickly despite definitely eating a lot more cals than 800 (I had no idea how many, but think steaks with cream and cheese sauce, huge amounts of cheddar on cauliflower etc). That's what I'm going to carry on with once I get to the 8 weeks I think.

Boyfriend was doing this with me, but on Saturday night he ate a whole packet of crackers, 4 bottles of beer and sort of gave up! Not sure if it's harder for men sticking to that low cal count?

Cherrypi · 18/08/2016 13:52

Yumyumpoppycat I'm eating as outlined in the book p112-4 in my kindle edition but not restricting myself to 800 calories. Chocolate hobnobs definitely got me through breastfeeding a newborn. I'm trying to get down to a healthy bmi for the first time in my life.

notsoold · 18/08/2016 13:55

aplace ..?. That was my line of thought until I saw the food.... but I would eat feeling guilt and overeat... so nowhere to have peace anyway.......

notsoold · 18/08/2016 13:59

Well our picky toddler will say no to everything here including ice cream chocolate cake pies and breakfast altogether. ...I think he is low carbingGrin

APlaceOnTheCouch · 18/08/2016 14:54

notso I am thinking wistfully of the cruises we have been on (the only all-inclusive holidays I have had) and I was unable to exercise any restraint. I was like a child in a candy shop.

notsoold · 19/08/2016 21:10

That is a very good description aplace ....

Roseformeplease · 20/08/2016 19:50

Well, week 1 done and 5lbs down but, tbh, that was just alcohol and cake weight from being away. The real hard work is yet to come. Found it OK and had porridge every morning with no ill effects.

Need to do more exercise but managed 35 minutes brisk walk most days.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 20/08/2016 21:12

Well done Rose !
5lbs is a brilliant start Flowers

NannyR · 21/08/2016 13:56

Just started the blood sugar diet yesterday and I've got a question - do you count the calories in veg? For example, I've just had hummus for lunch, with a small carrot, a stick of celery, half a red pepper and a chunk of cucumber - do I just count the 250 cals in the hummus or do I need to weigh and count the cals in the veg too?

I'm thinking that the calories and carbs seem negligible but 5 or 6 servings of veg a day could be up to 200 cals maybe and push me over the 800. I suppose what I'm asking is, do I need to be really rigid with calorie counting?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/08/2016 14:57

Nanny yes in theory if you are following the plan exactly then you will count everything. I say in theory because done people modify the plan and one way could be to have veg as a free food. It depends how strict you are, how hungry you are, and how much you want to lose. I would definitely count carbs and calories in fruit though, and avoid starchy fruits and veg such as parsnips l/ sweet corn etc.
Good luck and welcome!

Roseformeplease · 21/08/2016 15:13

Thanks. Stuck now for 2 days but inwards and downwards......

Am boiling eggs now for lunches (to replace home cooked ham) and trying to think of other things I can cut out so I can keep my beloved porridge.

H3l3naGraham · 21/08/2016 16:40

Rose I am long-term BSD + throughout the winter I ate porridge, proper porridge, not instant, or fast sachets; I made it with almond milk, this works + reduces carbs. I don't count any permitted veg, except carrots + try to be careful with tomatoes. 2 stone down, despite summer shenanigans, 1.5 to go. Start in earnest again on Wed when last of a stream of house-guests depart. Good luck!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 21/08/2016 16:55

Hi H3l3na I was wondering how you were getting on and how you had been?

Roseformeplease · 21/08/2016 17:36

Thanks for that re porridge. Mine is the proper stuff, not instant. I make it with water and have with rhubarb and no sugar. Love it!

Glad it didn't stop you from losing.

pfrench · 21/08/2016 19:23

I've just had a weekend staying at the vegan in-laws. Almost impossible to stick to 800 cals or even low carb without seeming incredibly rude. I managed an egg breakfast, and tapenade rolled up in lettuce last night instead of having crackers, but all three main meals were pasta based. I haven't eaten pasta in months, let alone since starting the BSD.

Went for tiny, tiny portions... and was starving hungry all weekend pretty much. Grr. Am away from home too, so no chance to weigh to check the result. Probably just as well.

notsoold · 22/08/2016 12:56

Ok....2 months ( I hate week counting lol)
10kg lost. That is 22lbs in old money.
10cm from my waist.
And 2 lbs lost during the holiday!
So today is a feast day. No counting calories but counting carbs to under 30g maybe 20g.
I had olives for breakfast.... my favourite

APlaceOnTheCouch · 22/08/2016 16:13

Hurrah notso ! Those numbers are great. You must be seeing a big difference with so many cms and lbs lost. Flowers

I did one of those online surveys about your metabolic and exercise type yesterday. It was quite interesting because it said fasting wouldn't work for me which was true. I couldn't get 5:2 to work for me at all. It also suggested having a wider eating window than I do currently. I'm going to try that for this week because I seem to have stalled a little bit.

whatsonyourplate · 22/08/2016 19:41

Hi can I join the thread please? DH was told he has become diabetic 1 1/2 weeks ago, he has got an appointment with the practice nurse in 3 weeks, but the first appointment with the dietician isn't until November! Anyway we have decided we couldn't wait that long and we both started the BSD on Thursday (I also have weight to loose). We are sticking to the set meal plans at the moment as we think we will be less likely to cheat, and it is making us have a more varied diet than we would otherwise. We are still drinking tea/ coffee with milk in but otherwise have stuck to it well so far.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 22/08/2016 23:01

Welcome whatson Flowers
We're a mixed bunch here - diabetics; non-diabetics; all ages and sizes, and we're all at different stages too.
I love having this thread. It's great for inspiration.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/08/2016 09:42

God I'm the world's worst BSD-er at the moment! Starting every day totally on it, motivated, planned and then it all goes to weasel poo rat shit by about 4pm. I am blaming the school holidays but we've got another 2 weeks here so something better change soon! I so far managing to maintain by the skin of my teeth, but losses are eluding me. Hope everyone's having a better time that me? It's going to be a scorcher today so I'm busying myself with doing all the beds and getting it all out on the line so should hopefully keep me away from the kitchen!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 23/08/2016 11:59

bear maintaining was the most I could hope for during the last weeks of the summer holidays. I don't know if it was the lack of routine or having a DC at home but I was rubbish. Enjoy your sunny weather
DS went back to school on Wed last week (I'm in Scotland) and I managed to lose 1lbs last week. I'm hoping (more like praying because I don't have much hope tbh) that having a full week back in my normal routine will shift me from maintenance to losing.

clare8allthepies · 23/08/2016 16:39

Hi everyone (sidles back in shiftily) after losing 16 pounds in 7 weeks, I've put 6.5 of them back on since the end of May. Started again yesterday although not strictly BSD as with trial and error last time I found that it didn't matter so much if the calories were over the 800 as long as the carbs were low.

Aiming to keep to the pattern of just eating lunch and dinner that I ended up doing last time as this helped me keep the total under control without feeling deprived.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 23/08/2016 17:15

6.5lbs isn't bad over 3 months clare Flowers

pfrench · 25/08/2016 08:54

I'm on holiday at the moment, so no scales. Still sticking to it all though, so today I measured for a bit of motivation. Is it possible to have lost 2 inches from my waist in 8 days? Can't believe it - I measured twice to check! Hips are down a bit more (3 and a half), but my hips always go down quickly when I diet.
