Shiny new thread for the BSD'ers. Best thing you can do is first read the MM bsd book do you get a full grasp of what the rules are but in a nutshell:
800 calories a day
No bread/pasta/potatoes/rice
No processed food, no alcohol
As close to no sugar you can get
Full fat, no low fat
Protein to keep you full
2-3 litres of water a day
10,000 steps a day (work your way up)
HIIT if you can 2-3 times a week

My mum and dad were over today. He's 10 and a half stone, my mum panics if she gets to 8 stone. They've always been like this. Worked out that they never really eat more than 800 calories a day - they said that today at ours was a normal day for them, in which case my mum ate 834 cals, and dad ate the same plus a 'dirty Mars bar'. So... presumably I've inherited a ridiculously slow metabolism or something, and need to eat very little food.

Anyway, it's still going OK here. I'm finding it all quite easy still, so long as I have the food in the house I think it will stay easy. I've done a week now and lost 8 lbs. Been a bit slacked the last two days, with around 950 cals, but back to 800 tomorrow. Did LOADS of labouring in the garden today though, so needed the cals.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 14/08/2016 09:58

pfrench that's interesting about how much or little your parents eat. My mum is the same and also weighs about 8 stones. It does seem that 800-900 is sustainable and healthy for some people.
bear I did Marie Kondo too. I gave a lot of clothes to my sisters but looking at my wardrobe now I was going through a vintage phase when I was a size 16 so will have to charity shop them (no-one else in my family would wear them!).

Not2bObvious · 14/08/2016 19:31

I say buy the dress place, speaking for me if I waited to hit goal anything I might like to wear will scream mutton dressed as lamb😉 I lose weight at a snails pace, of course the snails I speak of like to guzzle wine and mill through crisps/chocolate over weekendsBlush Celebrate the loss with a lovely dress, it'll only look better as you drop the pounds

I hope there is room for another one here, albeit a rather chunky one.

I have completed day 1 and 800 calories, plus a good walk. MFP adds in the exercise but I resisted turning the calories burned into more food.

Sadly, I have put on 8lbs over the summer. I was already 2 stone overweight but I am a teacher so had multiple trips away, lots of time at home with my fridge, plus no off button. I am tall (5ft 10) so tend to get away with it but this is ridiculous.

Back to school tomorrow (Scotland) but got started today. Would love some support.

Also, what's the story with jumbo oats? Love my porridge and would like to keep having it, if only occasionally.

yumyumpoppycat · 14/08/2016 22:47

Welcome Rose! For me that is one flaw with the book,...I am not 100% clear on whether foods like oats are ok, as MM says that he eats them but they are obviously high carb. I am guessing you would need to experiment and see if they affected any blood sugar symptoms, how full they left you for the calories etc.

Not2be well done on your loss. I think beyond the 8 week stage it makes sense to try different options for slower weightloss and some of us just dont get on with the 5:2 pattern - if we did we would be on the 5:2 thread!

£500 for your clothes is amazing newaverage

I am down a bit again today after an upwards blip following little mini family seaside holiday and meal out with friends this week. Prob having about 900 at the mo, chomping on sugar free chewing gum is prob not ideal but helping (thank goodness they sell bumper packs in costco).

elliejjtiny · 15/08/2016 00:55

Welcome Rose.

Nottobe well done on the loss and glad you've found something that works for you.

bear £500 is brilliant, you must have saved a lot of space too

pfrench Well done on your loss too, 8lb is really great.

yumyum I find it really easy to slip into bad habits after a day off from dieting. But this diet is really hard to stick to when going out I find.

After my blip last Monday I've put on 2lb in the first half of the week and then lost 3lb in the 2nd half. Trying not to get discouraged as being discouraged leads to cake. So that's 1lb off this week and 8lb off in total (2 weeks).

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/08/2016 09:17

Personally I find oats too carby in the morning, and make me too hungry for more but I think you can have them if they are within your carb count. If anyone likes oats there are some nice recipes for baked oats online- porridge oats, egg and milk baked into a kind of cakey affair (it's a sw recipe) but by adding egg it would lower the gi of the oats further.
It's day one (again) for me today after a disastrous weekend. I have 12 days til Lycra dress day! I've planned all my meals and snacks for the week, with Friday night off as I'm socialising. Wish me luck!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 15/08/2016 11:28

Good luck bear ! You are going to look fab in your lycra dress.
I had a rare night out last night so used some of my calories for gin Blush but have lost 2.4lbs this week simply by being closer to my non-holiday routine. I'm just going to check my measurements and then order my 2-stones-loss-celebration dress

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/08/2016 13:46

Good day for me yesterday, sugar free, low carb but didn't count calories. Today I'm aiming for low carb, sugar free, 1000 cals. I had a shake and a boiled egg for breakfast, a tortilla 'pizza' and salad for lunch (was yummy! Tortilla wrap, spread with Tom purée and mozzarella then baked and then folded over) and tonight it's oven baked smoked haddock with broccoli and cauliflower. All the recipes are from the original fast diet book, although I have since realised that they aren't designed to be low carb, so have had to modify. It's gloriously sunny here so we're waiting til after 3 to go out for a walk!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 16/08/2016 17:44

Excellent news bear.
It's lovely weather here too and I always find it helps. It was also last day of the holidays so we've been out all day which meant lot of walking.
I'm just trying to decide what to make for dinner. I have chicken to use up so probably chicken curry or jollof chicken.

Roseformeplease · 16/08/2016 18:25

My chunk is disappearing. 2 days of 800 calories and 4lbs down! This is from massive monster weight down to something enormous but......

No doubt it won't be this fast for long but, oh boy, chuffed. (And that is with porridge and no poo for 3 days).

yumyumpoppycat · 16/08/2016 19:41

Well done everyone glad the sunshine is brightening up our days!

  • rose fab on the 4lbs - 3 days of poo must weigh a bit too ;)

I am a bit munchy this eve - going to have a cup of tea. Bit dissapointed as I was up a bit today, not sure why, which means I prob wont reach my totally unrealistic holiday goal. Have decided to move the goal to the end of the school summer hols instead, as actually that would be more of a result than getting there for vacation then regaining again.

elliejjtiny · 16/08/2016 19:57

Someone who didn't know I was dieting noticed I'd lost weight today! brilliant boost as I didn't think it was enough for people to notice yet.

Roseformeplease · 16/08/2016 20:27

yumy love your poem.....

yumyumpoppycat · 16/08/2016 20:38

El hifive that is a brill non scale victory!

Rose - lol - we should so have a BSD poem, only not me writing it ;)

Some of you may have noticed I am obsessed with eating breakfast but not eating in the eve and there are some studies showing this might be a better option for people who are insulinn resistant caloriesproper.com/skipping-meals-intermittent-fasting-grazing-etc/

yumyumpoppycat · 17/08/2016 20:10

Oh no I killed the thread! Hope everyone has had a good day. Have prob had about 900 cals today but that included 2 skinny lattes, not ideal! I was looking at the vlcd thread and it reminded me to drink water ... drink more lose more apparently {swigs water with gusto}

Cherrypi · 17/08/2016 20:46

I started this on Monday. I'm breastfeeding so just doing the m plan. Lost 5 pounds already.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/08/2016 21:02

I've had a couple of reasonable days but I haven't managed 800 calories! I keep getting the evening munchies, maybe it's hormonal or just summer holiday-itis. Haven't worked out my cals yet today but I know it's over, although have remained low carb- and said no to ice cream, and wine!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/08/2016 21:10

Well, that could have been worse! 1150 cals and 55g carbs. Kitchen now closed!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 17/08/2016 23:19

Cherry have you checked with your HV that it's OK to do BSD when breastfeeding? I'm not sure if the advice has changed but when I was breastfeeding I was advised to increase my calories and my dairy intake.
yumyum you didn't kill the thread Grin
It was my first full day back in the office today so I am back into my routine. Finished on 760 cals and 36g carbs.

notsoold · 17/08/2016 23:23

I found out how much I struggle not to eat loads in an all inclusive holiday. It is really hard and haven't managed less than 1000 per day. The worst day so far was 1233 calories. And still have 4 days before going home....Blush

Cherrypi · 17/08/2016 23:27

Is it not pretty similar to boot camp light? I'm keeping an eye on my milk and will add more carbs if there's an issue. My baby is 18 months so I'm not his sole food source anymore.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 18/08/2016 07:57

notso I think the words 'all inclusive' are code for 'eat, drink and be merry'. Why don't you change your aim for the holiday so you can enjoy it eg accept you'll be 1000 cals but walk a little extra or allow yourself one main meal per day where you can have what you want. Don't let BSD spoil your holiday (...but tbh I let my holiday spoil my BSD so perhaps I'm not the best person to listen to!) Blush
Cherry I'm not sure tbh. It was a few years ago so maybe medical advice has changed.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/08/2016 08:29

With slimming world the breast feeding advice and extra allowances is only when your baby is exclusively breast fed. I would have thought by 18 months you could pretty much diet as normal. Maybe the fact you struggle to get under 1000 is your body saying you need more- why not adapt the plan to 1000 cals for a few weeks, if you stick low carb and sugar free you'll still lose weight. Just be kind to yourself and if you're ravenous, listen to your body.
I gained a stone breastfeeding, because of all the breastfeeding hobnobs- they're an actual thing right?

yumyumpoppycat · 18/08/2016 08:33

Phew aplace Grin I have form for threadkilling!

Crikey Notso you are doing amazing keeping low on hol...brilliant but make sure you enjoy your hol ... what about not adding up cals but eating intuitively or something, you should relax ... bigchoc said its healthy to gain 2lbs on hol on the 5:2 thread yest (my prob is its more likely to be 4lbsplus)

Cherry well done on 5lbs that is fantastic...I think Mplan without cal counting should be fine with18 mo so long as you feel well... not that I am a dietician or anything. What are you counting as mplan as I am slightly confused tbh!?
