Shiny new thread for the BSD'ers. Best thing you can do is first read the MM bsd book do you get a full grasp of what the rules are but in a nutshell:
800 calories a day
No bread/pasta/potatoes/rice
No processed food, no alcohol
As close to no sugar you can get
Full fat, no low fat
Protein to keep you full
2-3 litres of water a day
10,000 steps a day (work your way up)
HIIT if you can 2-3 times a week

Maybe it's the holiday weight hasn't truly shifted place, I think that's my problem anyway. I think you can't gauge holiday weight gain immediately after holidays, you need a week to 10 days to see a true picture. Would that make sense? Cause there's no way you could have gain 1.4lb overnight eating less than a 1000 cals yesterday.

Not sure how true this is, but I'm sure I've heard that 'your weight reflects what you ate 10 days ago' or some such wisdom. Which would explain why you can have an unexpected gain or loss when you don't deserve it.
Re treat days place I have never got on well with them and find it just too hard to a) rein myself in and b) get back on it. I have found after the 8 weeks that the most workable solution long term will be a higher daily allowance, eg 1000 a day, keep carbs low, try and remain sugar free etc, rather than feast/famine mentality. This is why 5:2 the traditional way has never worked for me really. I do know that a few days at 800 will give a 2 ish pound loss, but I also know a few totally off piste treat days will give a 2lb gain.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/07/2016 15:39

And yes, I agree with not2be, there is no way that's a true gain. 1.4lb = 3900 excess calories, = 19.6 dairy milk bars extra in one day. So unless you went swimming in the vats at Cadbury world yesterday, it must be water/salt, or even just the actual weight of the food you've eaten?

bear and Not2b thanks Flowers You are both exactly right. This gain is my holiday excesses catching up with me.
bear 5:2 never worked for me either so I think I may be better following my own BSD-with amendments (ie roughly 800 cals but with sugar, etc; carbs about 50g) and if I have a massive hankering for pizza/cake one day then that's ok but trying to timetable in specific treat days each week is probably not going to work for me.
Thanks for listening to my moans Smile

Not2b is that how many teeny bars of chocolate you can fit in 800 calories? Grin Chocolate

Not2bObvious · 26/07/2016 16:03

It's probably how many bars of chocolate I could eat if I let loose lol! On 1000 cals already, tomorrow will have to be better than this

I've closed the kitchen at around 1200 today - just too hungry tonight! Still below my TDEE so hoping I'm still on track. Not going to beat myself up!

yumyumpoppycat · 26/07/2016 20:39

I am having exactly the same problem!!! I just cant do 5:2 version. weird, or maybe not as the reason a fair few of us are doing this is because we didnt get on with original 5:2.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/07/2016 20:49

Aaarrtrrrggggghhhh I have eaten my body weight in crap this evening! Feel like I am on a total sabotage mission! I don't know if it's just that I am recovering from being ill, or if it's because I know I've missed the boat for a few pounds off before holiday but I just can't stop myself!
I'll have to try again tomorrow. All I can say is when I get back home, I will have just 3 weeks until I attend a massive wedding, dh is best man, - and I have foolishly bought myself a very unforgiving Lycra dress- I will need to get my act together smartish...

yumyumpoppycat · 26/07/2016 21:05

Lets all aim for 800 sensible cals tomorrow with lots of healthy veg and lashings of ginger beer

yumyumpoppycat · 26/07/2016 21:07

Ps snap on all counts accepting a wedding to aim for newaverage. I have a hol in a few weeks though and have prob left it too late for uber goal but lower than my lowest on this woe will make me v happy...

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/07/2016 21:17

I should post a picture of my dress tomorrow for motivation. It will fit (because it's Lycra) but it's totally not what I normally wear and it will be very unforgiving of any lumpiness! I bought it after my 8 weeks, hoping to lose another stone by the wedding but I have lost ....err....not a stone, and now have a holiday then 3 short weeks to try and undo the damage! I was just looking at Atkins shakes online, there was a lady doing shakes wasn't there? I might try them for a week after my holiday just to get me a good week at 800 to get me back on track.
If only I could diet like I can promise I would be thin....,

yumyumpoppycat · 26/07/2016 21:45

when do you leave? Have a fantastic time.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/07/2016 21:50

Friday. We're not going abroad, just to Devon but we have a nice lodge with a private hot tub! Hoping for nice weather!

mustbemad71 · 26/07/2016 22:12

Poppycat I'm in 800 cals it is!

Bear let's see the dress!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 26/07/2016 22:23

bear post the dress. It will distract us from cakes and will help us all to remember why we are doing this - so we can look and feel better.

yumyumpoppycat · 26/07/2016 22:55

Ooh bear enjoy devon...lovely. I bet the dress will look gorgeous and 2 good weeks of low carb med 800 cal BSD when you get back will make a huge difference to how it looks.

Fantastic mustbemad Grin

elliejjtiny · 27/07/2016 01:14

Another one wanting to see bear's dress.

Day 2 is done, kept within the limits etc, just need to work out how to space out the water so I don't keep waking up in the night to wee.

How do you manage eating out on this diet? I'm doing normal days quite well so far but I think it's all going to go wrong if I eat when someone else is doing the cooking. BBQ's would be fairly easy I think, just have a sausage and some salad but restaurants look really hard. I was looking at the frankie and benny's menu. A few low calorie options but everything has carbs in.

Not2bObvious · 27/07/2016 06:35

Eating out can be tricky, if you do it a lot then you probably have to be quite strict. Steak with salad, swap potatoes for veg, burger in a bowl. If it's a rare occurrence, have a little of what you fancy. Allow yourself 1 treat meal a week I reckon once you've managed to keep to bsd for a few weeks quite strictly. It's a tough plan but that's to get optimum results over the 8 weeks.
Another one wanting to see the dress bear, God knows I need a kick up the behind to get back on track. Had to change into fat pants yesterday as my jeans were cutting off my circulation! Egg for breakfast, salad for lunch, fish for dinner. That's the plan

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/07/2016 06:47

Meals out take a bit of planning don't they? I found a local cafe that does all day breakfasts so if I'm meeting friends locally that's my go-to place these days. Nando's have a Mediterranean salad on their menu with feta cheese and you can add chicken to it, harvester is good if you can resist the fries and just have meat and salad. As for 'proper' meals out, I find the more expensive places will basically just do what you ask for, so read the whole menu and pick the bits you want off it! Then resist the desserts.
I'm 0.3 up today, 11.7.8 - someone please please lock my kitchen cupboards today. I was like a tapeworm yesterday, anything that appeared before me I ate with gusto. Today I really really am going to try for 800 cals and the first move in my plan is to not start eating until lunchtime. Then I can have a more substantial lunch and dinner. Walk round the park later with the boys and lots of water. Have a good day all

yumyumpoppycat · 27/07/2016 07:02

Newaverage 0.3 is not so bad a all! Good plan not2be ....cup of tea so far here.

Restaraunts are hard in that you often wont have any idea of cals even if they are listed so you sort of have to guess ...agree with not2be that if it is a regular thing you have to try and stick to diet mode ....but often the healthy option ends up tasting more delicious than it sounds main. thing is to avoid the bready stuff I think...and chips seem to be eye wateringly high cal so they are defo off the menu. Good opportunity for avocado though as they usually only put a small amount in! Planning by skipping breakfast or evening meal depending seems to cancel out any side effects.
