Shiny new thread for the BSD'ers. Best thing you can do is first read the MM bsd book do you get a full grasp of what the rules are but in a nutshell:
800 calories a day
No bread/pasta/potatoes/rice
No processed food, no alcohol
As close to no sugar you can get
Full fat, no low fat
Protein to keep you full
2-3 litres of water a day
10,000 steps a day (work your way up)
HIIT if you can 2-3 times a week

KOKO yes great let's get this 3 stone off together!

I've just been on hols and felt fat and frumpy. Never again do I want to go away feeling like that!

Like you I've got a celebration and weekend away coming up but I'm determined not to wreck my good start. I'm going to have slimline tonic and let people think it's a G&T - no wine or lager - what is it that MM calls it - "liquid bread"!! Could you do the same or swap wine for vodka or gin and slim?

You've got 3 weeks - if you made a pact with yourself to be super strict you could really lose a decent amount by your hols and go away feeling fab! I'd ditch the wine until your hols. We are having 2 meals out this weekend, have tried to plan ahead I'm going to go for Seabass and veg one night and chicken of some description the next rather than usual more indulgent options. No starter or pud.

I've been having mushroom and Soinach omelette for breakkie, salad with tuna or chicken for lunch then fish plus veg for dinner. Had blueberries and total yog too. I'm surprised by exactly how much you can eat for 800 cals if you make the right choices. We can do this!

Not2bObvious · 21/07/2016 06:01

Keep, don't be so down on yourself. I'm doing this since mid Feb and the most I lost was 16lb, 4 of which have spent 3 months revisiting me (cause I'm such great company!) I'm at that point, I think it's been discussed before - my bodies happy/stubborn fat stage - I cannot get under 11 stone. I had the same at 12 stone, bsd is the only thing that broke me through.
Wrt drinking, that is my weakness. I haven't fully cracked it truthfully but I've managed a couple of weeks pre-holiday only drinking 2 nights & also limiting myself to a certain amount. You have 3 weeks to your holiday, you could lose that other 7lb. Question is do you want that more than you want wine? Celebrations should be about people not drink. I know that probably sounds very preachy but you have to make a choice what you want more at this point. If you can do 5 days at 800-1100, and 2 at 1200-1600 I'm sure you'll see a decent loss. Oh and don't buy the biscuits or at least put them out of your way. I do a clear out of junk every Sunday, put it in a bag & out of the way. Then I'll allow myself a treat or 2 over the weekend.

Down .4 from yesterday's 11.5.6 - now 11.5.2! Getting there, lying on the bed trying to figure if I've got it in me to go for a run or at least a walk. Have til 7 to decide. Way stupid tired & cranky after yesterday's exertions, might make this a rest day of sorts

OP posts:
mustbemad71 · 21/07/2016 08:01

That's great Not2 at least all that exertion was worth it!

I'm down another pound so that's 5.4lbs off since Monday. Hoping not all of it is water. Going to take the pooch out shortly before work - get those steps in. Had my usual mushroom and Spinach omelette for breakfast, trying the portobello toast from the BSD book for lunch then maybe steak for dinner with homemade roasted Mediterranean veg.

Have a great day everyone!

Not2bObvious · 21/07/2016 08:59

Wow must, that's excellent and your food plan sounds spot on. I did an hour walk so nearly 9000 steps in the bag. Spot of vigorous housework planned for later so that'll burn another few cals. Glass of wine planned with dinner, I'll try not to exceed that but might have some vodka & lime soda after. Have company for dinner that needs alcohol! So much for me lecturing you keep on the drinks😉 Do as I say not as I do eh😁

must your menu sounds great - and well done on losing 5.4lbs since Monday - that's fab!
keep I'm not a regular drinker but whilst on BSD, I've had a few gin and tonics; and a night out drinking cocktails and whiskey. So it is possible to stay on BSD, lose weight and have occasional alcohol. But I'm the sort of person who when faced with a choice between alcohol or dessert will usually opt for the dessert instead so I'm probably not much help.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/07/2016 13:44

I'm not a big drinker either, and I definitely think it helped on the early weeks particularly as alcohol is so calorie heavy and also increases your appetite and weakens resolve, so it's a kind of triple whammy. I drink gin and slimline normally but found when I did have it the aspartame was horrendously sweet, so switched to gin, lime and soda which was a lot nicer!

Place down again! Do you weigh daily? I am for now but hope to ease off when I've lost a decent chunk as becoming slightly obsessed with the scales!

The portobello toast was not good and according to MFP it was more like 200 cals not 150! Going to stick with my nice salads going forward.

I've plugged in all today's food into MFP - 833 but not bad as only 26 g of carbs compared with 60g yesterday despite less cals!

Headaches have gone, not hungry but feel tired.

KOKO how are you doing today? Bear* hope you are back I the swing of things.

Not2 enjoy tonight!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 21/07/2016 14:48

must I do weigh daily if I'm at home I find it helpful to see the fluctuations so I know not to worry if I go up by a few pounds. I'm just using MN as a log at the mo because my smartphone has died and mfp doesn't seem to record fractions of pounds. Once I have my phone back, I'll stop logging daily on MN Grin

Well, my phone finally came back and I was 159.8 before I went on holiday so that means I actually put on 3.6 lbs when I was away and still have 1.4lbs to lose to get back to where I was before my break. Hopefully I'll manage it this week.

Morning everyone!
Yesterday despite planning to start a fresh, and going to the supermarket, I didn't actually plan any meals so I ate loads and kind of missed the point. Today I'm on it in earnest.
Breakfast: Greek yog and nuts
Lunch: going for a carvery so will have meat and veg but no spuds. Both boys will share steal my food, so shouldn't be too bad
Dinner- chicken kebabs and salad
Lots of water too, I'm so thirsty these days.
I'm not sure how I'll do and I'm still taking various meds and cough medicines which is the only thing that seems to soothe my chest, so not technically sugar free, but it's the best I can do.
Koko I did a full 8 weeks zero sugar, zero alcohol, but I didn't manage the 800 cals. I can't fully remember the numbers now, but I think I lost about 19lb in those 8 weeks. Since then, I've struggled to be honest, to incorporate real life into this plan. I generally as a rule have 1000 cals a day, and this works well for me 4-5 days a week. My problem has been the other 2-3 days; originally I started by sticking to tdee on those days but remaining sugar free (which also worked) but gradually I have started not counting at all (doesn't work!), eating anything (doesn't work!) and just struggling to get back into BSD after those treat days. As a result I have not lost anything in the last few weeks, not including my 2 week stint of illness which I think has ended in a 2lb gain overall. I haven't put big amounts back on yet, but it's in the post I'm sure if I keep doing this!

Not2bObvious · 22/07/2016 07:25

keep have you read the book? Sorry I find it hard to remember who has and hasn't.
MM suggests if you really find it too much of a struggle to do the 8 weeks you can adapt it to doing 800 twice a week & just stick to the bsd principles the other 5 - so basically eating a med plan. Weight loss would be slower but you'd be less stressed with it. He also mentioned that if you don't have a lot to lose, then a shorter number of weeks. I did 4 weeks no alcohol/sugar etc at 800 at the start and lost 12 pounds I think? I "only" had 2.5 stone in total to lose, lots of people on the blood sugar diet forum have lost over 3 stone in 8 weeks but then most had it to lose & then needed to keep on it to shift another couple of stone. The 8 weeks @800 is meant to be a short/sharp shock not the rest of your life.

Morning campers!

Bear 19lbs is fantastic - I hope I can do the same.

It's day 5 week 1 here and another 0.4lb off this morning so that's 5.7lbs in total so far.

I went a bit off piste last night as we decided to pop out for dinner after tough work day. I went for grilled Seabass with salad and spicy tomato sauce so not too bad but did have a vodka and slim and a small glass of wine so I've broken no alcohol rule already! Still think I came in at just under 1000 cals for the day though. We are away this weekend with family and at least 2 more meals out. I'm going to have to be strong and not hit the booze or I'll undo all this weight loss. It's going to be a challenge to get BSD to fit around real life but I really really want to be a slim healthy weight again. I know that I'll have better self-esteem, improved mood, higher sex drive Winkand more energy so going to focus on that rather than getting pissed and gorging myself!

Not2bObvious · 22/07/2016 08:16

Well done must, I count a day a success from 800-1100 so you won in my book. My scales is back to 11.5.6 but then I ate 2200 cals yesterday and it hasn't..ahem..fully evacuated my system. Off for a walk and then a quick jog so hope to be back on track by tomorrow. No drinks tonight.

OP posts:
mustbemad71 · 22/07/2016 11:06

Thanks not2 don't think 2200 is bad considering that you had friends over for dinner. I shall join you in booze free night tonight!

I'm back in the 11 stone range thank god. Been looking at weights recorded on MFP over the last year and I seem to stick around 11 stone too. Really hoping a can break through the barrier this time and get back under 10 stone where I was happiest.

Onwards and downwards!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 22/07/2016 11:27

keep I did 8 weeks averaging between 800-900 cals. I didn't ever cut out sugar and my first 8 weeks included a week on holiday and a weekend away (I did drink alcohol on the weekend away). First 8 weeks, I lost about 14lbs. I've now lost 25lbs and ideally want to lose another 12lbs. I follow BSD about 5 days per week and have 2 cheat/treat days.

Weeeelllll. The less said about today the better. I think today was just a practise run. Tomorrow I shall begin again properly and, y'know, not eat a mcflurry....,

mustbemad71 · 22/07/2016 20:33

Bear don't worry I'm on the wine again - but it's red not white which MM says is better plus I had chicken salad when everyone had pizza so feeling slightly smug!

Not2bObvious · 22/07/2016 21:01

A bit under 1800 cals but no alcohol and nearly 16,000 steps done so I'm happy enough. That's pretty darn good for me for a Friday. God though, Friday's feel old without a tipple!

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/07/2016 06:33

Right, on it properly today! I have had a cheeky weigh in, 11.9.2 which is about 2 up from my lowest ever which isn't bad really all things considered. I shall consider that a lucky escape.
Today: Greek yoghurt, eggy lunch, chicken thighs and salad for dinner. Exercise - major house clean as we have put on the market and have a viewing this afternoon. Also a walk while said viewing takes place.
I'm aiming for 8 glasses of water today as I feel a bit dehydrated after the heatwave!
Glorious here still, hope you all have a lovely weekend!
