I've started the 800 calorie Michael Mosley blood sugar diet today. I'm T2 diabetic, menopausal and need a sharp shock to do something about the way I eat.

Weight has crept up post surgeries over the past few years, I have low carbed before then caved in. I'm going to post what I eat and my progress on here as an incentive to stick to this for 8 weeks. Anyone else welcome to do the same.

Breakfast half a lavash bread, smear of tomato purée, lots of mushrooms and sprinkle of grated cheese. Very filling. 189 cal

Lunch. Little gem lettuce leaves with bacon, avocado, cucumber. 234 cal

Dinner chicken breast, sour cream with fajita spices, rocket, cucumber, avocado, celery. 337 cal

Drinking loads of water, a bit hungry.

Thanks Grace! I can't wait for that feeling that I've read and heard about!

I bought loads of frozen chopped mint and parsley and I'm growing basil so I use a lot of herbs I miss ketchup. I just steam the broccoli and when it's done I chuck in a load of frozen mint and the heat from the veg defrosts it. Also great with peas.

A tip for anyone who experiencing headaches is to have a little bit of salt. This can also help if you're feeling a bit washed out, as by cutting calories and cutting out foods with salt content such as bread and cereals, plus drinking more water, you can leave yourself a bit low on sodium (similar to how you can be after a bout of d&v!). Just a small amount can really help shift the foggy washed out feeling.

LolBeansandSalad · 11/06/2016 12:07

Fab result Grace well done!

Welcome Cunk your meal looks lovely

No breakfast today for me and I'm out for lunch today so I'm just going to go for something breadless off the menu and call that a win. I tend to just eat one main meal on a Sat and Sun anyway, somehow when I'm not at work I don't feel as hungry Confused

Sprog19 · 11/06/2016 12:28

Grilled mushrooms with feta and baked beans for lunch today. Steak and salad for dinner.

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 11/06/2016 16:05

Ugh, I think I messed up with lunch. I had 2 cobettes (mini corn on the cobs) with herbsand olive oil and a green salad and little bit of tomato and basil salad. I think corn on the cob is high in carbs isn't it? I know it's not dreadful but I'm really trying to stick to the best possible foods for these 8 weeks, after that I'll do the 5:2 M diet.

I have just dry roasted some almonds and sprinkled them with salt for a snack. They smell great!

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 11/06/2016 16:06

Oh, I meant to say that I'm just going to watch the documentary 'Fed Up' as I've heard good things about it and thought it'd help galvanise my decision to do this diet.

GraceGildee · 11/06/2016 18:27

More food! Lunch was blueberries, chopped apple, pine nuts and Greek yogurt. Small but I was still full of bacon and halloumi. 200 cals. Dinner was huge :) a whole lavash bread (they are very thin, like a tortilla) with mushrooms, red onion, spinach and cheese. And some sour cream. Looks enormous but I rolled it up and ate the lot. Under 400 cals. Delicious.

Wow, that Lavash looks great! Is it low carb? If so I think I need some for weekend treats...

I watched the documentary 'Fed Up', OI really recommend it if you feel your willpower slipping. The downside is I cried (I may be hormonal atm) at the thought of what I'm giving DS5, he doesn't have a lot of what I thought of as rubbish but he does rely on pasta and bread quite a bit.

GraceGildee · 11/06/2016 20:33

Lavash below. I usually have half a slice but used a whole one tonight.

Ooh, thank you Grace, I think I'll order some! I fancy having something to look forward to at weekends with some of my hummus!

officerhinrika · 12/06/2016 00:42

5lb down on Saturday morning, I'm really pleased. I've spent a lot of today in bed, shattered after my trip to London yesterday, so very quick and simple food today. A pear then scrambled egg with some streaky bacon for brunch, then 2 quorn burgers mushrooms and asparagus for dinner. Snacks were yoghurt with strawberries a nectarine and a bit of cheese. I've eaten ( my favourite) asparagus for the last 4 days! The season is coming to an end so have to make the most of it while it's on offer at the farm shop :)
Well done Grace on your 7.5lb and everyone else!

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 12/06/2016 08:41

I love hearing about all the weight people are losing.
I just weighed myself... day 5 today... I've lost 3lbs! So happy!

GraceGildee · 12/06/2016 11:34

Morning all, here's my lovely breakfast. Get a small glass and fill it with layers of Greek yogurt, blueberries, pine nuts, flaxseed and chopped apple. I made it last night and left it in the fridge for morning, I shall be doing this next week as it's return to work and school. Really nice. Second week starts here!

And lunch, I fancied something green with mustard. Chopped Spring greens and mushrooms and hiding under the cheese is a tesco breakfast patty. Delicious. 200cals.

Dinner. This is lush. Lamb meatballs made with lamb mince, onion, and various spices. Salad of red pepper, apple, chickpeas, cucumber, red cabbage and radishes. Lemon and mint dressing. And a few roast mushrooms and salad leaves. . This is very nice and still under 400 cals. I got my lowest blood sugar reading in a long time earlier so I'm happy

Oooh, I love looking at all these photos!

I've decided to make my own version of taboulleh for dinner with green lentils instead of bulghar wheat and it's fab. I'm having it with grilled haloumi and a green salad (with my special apple cyder vinegar dressing as apparently there's some evidence that it can help stabilise blood sugar levels).

According to MFP I've only had 599 cals today Confused, I don't feel hungry though. I'll have a few almonds later if I'm peckish. This happened on day 2 as well, I need to get to grips with what 800 cals looks like. I think I'm so frightened of going over 800 that I'm being too cautious!

yumyumpoppycat · 12/06/2016 20:39

This is the Halo thread, we havent had many sub 700 cal days on the main one! Day in day out like that wouldnt be great but prob ok as a one off as there will likely be days when you have the munchies or life gets in the way.

Grace your pictures are really inspiring well done!

GraceGildee · 12/06/2016 21:31

Thank you so much! I'm trying to stick to it as I would love to reverse my diabetes. Logging on MFP helps. I miss toast though

This morning: same Greek yoghurt with fruit and nuts as yesterday but I added a blob of low sugar cherry jam to it. It just tasted too bitter at 7.30am for my tired tastebuds. And it was lovely.

Afternoon!
How strange that it was too bitter yesterday but okay today! Glad you enjoyed it though.
I really wanted lots of green on my plate today so went all out with a basil tofu, leftover green lentil tabbouleh, broccoli, parsley hummus, and green salad feast Grin. It was delicious! 300 cals so hoping I'm getting better at judging the cal content now.

Yesterday evening my lower back started aching and it got worse as the night when on. I looked it up and apparently quite a few people have had this when in ketosis; I don't think it's right though and maybe related to under eating and not having enough water so I'm extra on the case today!

For any fellow veggies/ vegans doing this- I recommend the VegiDeli Sage and Onion slices for a good ratio of protein: carb. They really do taste lovely, I've had them chopped up in an omelette and in salads.

I think the lack of sleep made it taste weird! Tabbouleh looks lovely. Definitely try to keep your fat up and drink big glasses of water. I had some roasted broccoli and cauliflower for lunch with a bit of chicken and a few prawns. Soy sauce and peanut butter dressing. Going out for tea tonight and hoping I can find something around 400 cals.

I bought some Yogi Choco tea today, it doesn't taste like chocolate but it does have a lovely liquorice flavour that tastes sweet at the back of your throat so I'm drinking that and water (along with two cups of black coffee, no sugar), drinking more is one of the hardest parts for me!

Good tip about the using MFP for planning, I use it retroactively but will start using it for meal planning, thank you.

I'm another lb down today, I'm not going to weigh myself again until Weds when it'll have been a week.

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 13/06/2016 21:00

Finishing the day on 783 calories. Was under again but had a couple of teaspoons of Whole Earth no added sugar peanut butter to up it.

AF is due this week so might be why I'm not so hungry, I always feel sick beforehand.

Hope everyone has had a good day!

GraceGildee · 13/06/2016 21:17

Went out for pub tea and had roast chicken leg, salad and coleslaw. Nicked a few of my mates chips :)
