I've started the 800 calorie Michael Mosley blood sugar diet today. I'm T2 diabetic, menopausal and need a sharp shock to do something about the way I eat.

Weight has crept up post surgeries over the past few years, I have low carbed before then caved in. I'm going to post what I eat and my progress on here as an incentive to stick to this for 8 weeks. Anyone else welcome to do the same.

Breakfast half a lavash bread, smear of tomato purée, lots of mushrooms and sprinkle of grated cheese. Very filling. 189 cal

Lunch. Little gem lettuce leaves with bacon, avocado, cucumber. 234 cal

Dinner chicken breast, sour cream with fajita spices, rocket, cucumber, avocado, celery. 337 cal

Drinking loads of water, a bit hungry.

Mother of arse, 6lb on in 3 days!!! That's teach me to hammer the cocktails and carbs! Back on it today.

Breakfast was Greek yoghurt, nuts and blueberries. Lunch, prawns, watercress and sour cream and paprika. Dinner was two bacon medallions, halloumi and lots of roast veg. I've also had several sugar free sweets to help my bowels along Grin

I've been AWOL from the thread for a while as I have massively fallen off the diet. I've craved carbs, mostly crisps and magnums Blush and eaten them! I couldn't figure out why I was so out of control all of a sudden and was getting rather down. Then the lightbulb moment! I have a chronic condition and am partly treated with steroids. Two weeks ago I had an impending infection, which means increasing the steroids. I'm just so used to having to do a precautionary tweak to the meds I forgot about the effect they have on appetite - duh. Now I'm tapering the dose back down so hopefully sometime this week the urge to eat anything not nailed down will recede and I can join back in again.
Very impressed with people's progress and sticking power!

GraceGildee · 12/07/2016 22:52

Officer that does sound hard, it's horrible feeling like you can't control what you're eating. I went off it at the weekend and am struggling a bit but I really want to get back to what I was.

Today I had usual breakfast, then a prawn salad for lunch. Then a box of edamame beans with soy sauce so I just had a chicken breast with houmous and salad for tea. A box of raspberries too which are my new favourite. Went to the cinema and resisted the popcorn but pinched a few nachos off my friend. I need to do a careful online shop and meal plan to stick to this.

This has been much harder this week after my weekend blowout but trying to stay on track.

Usual breakfast. For lunch I had bacon and lettuce salad and a few cherries. Dinner was chicken with homemade coleslaw, stir fry, sweet potato and mushrooms.

Oops forgot to update yesterday. I had a lunch on the go of mini pepperamis and salad. Dinner was lovely, cauliflower, asparagus and broad beans with bacon and halloumi. Accidentally ate two Freddos but they seemed to cure my constipation 😃

Much harder week than usual but hopefully back on track now, 4lb off this week. Didn't have proper meals for most of yesterday but nibbled on pepperami, cheese, nuts etc then had roast halloumi and veg for tea.

Usual breakfast which I make in advance. Greek yogurt, chopped nuts, blueberries or cherries and apple all mixed up and chilled overnight.

Lunch is prawns, lettuce, houmous, tomato and cheese. I think I'm going to make fajitas for tea using my lavash breads.

Next week is week 8 of this but I'm going to carry on. Big family birthday next weekend so I hope I can be careful. Blood sugar is down, weight is down. I need to plan better so I don't slip up.

How's everyone doing?

Hi Grace I'm doing okay, slow week- only half a pound off but I had a couple of evenings out that didn't help!

NSV for me today though, I'm wearing a white cotton top that I've only worn once before because that time it was boob flattening-ly tight and I felt like I was about to tear it off my back a la the Incredible Hulk every time I moved my arms Grin today it feels quite roomy!

GraceGildee · 17/07/2016 17:48

Well done Lolbeans what a great feeling :)

I made experimental fajitas for tea, would have been nicer if I'd warmed the lavash bread first. It's nicer cooked. Chicken, red onion, mushrooms, pepper in bbq fajita spice with sour cream and cheese.

Good food day today (so far). usual breakfast, then half a lavash bread made into a pizza with mushrooms, tomato purée and cheese.

For dinner I made the MM lamb and pine nut meat balls with some home made coleslaw and broccoli. Drank loads of water and some psyllium husk. Around 800 today, probably a bit more. But that's ok.

wow grace that looks like a proper substantial meal. Amazing how much you can get for 3 meals totalling 800 whereas a bog standard meal out can easily clear 800 by itself.

officerhinrika · 19/07/2016 17:43

Today I gave mostly been eating watermelonGrin

GraceGildee · 19/07/2016 18:25

It was very filling Poppycat, anything with lamb mince always feels like a good meal! Officer I don't blame you, I've had a couple of ice pops. I don't like the heat.

Today, usual breakfast. Lunch was the remains of a tub of houmous with red pepper, carrot sticks, a cheese strip and cucumber.
Dinner was chicken roasted in a bit of lemon and herb spice mix, with homemade coleslaw, sweet potato, mushrooms, brocolli and broad beans. Delicious. I've now lost the 6lbs again that I gained in my weekend on the lash ten days ago. Still worth it :)

Grace your meals look delish! You've lost a fantastic amount of weight - very inspiring thread thank you! Do you exercise too?

GraceGildee · 20/07/2016 11:44

Thank you Mustbe :) it really helps posting on here and using MFP. I started doing couch to 5k earlier this year but had to abandon it when I'd nearly reached the end as I had an injury. I didn't really lose weight doing that but looked more toned. I decided to start this as I felt I needed something with strong guidelines to stick to. I walk a lot (don't drive) and ride my bike but no more than that. Will try running again eventually.

The thing I found hardest was constipation and I took flaxseed which helped a bit but I've been on the psyllium husk recently and that is much better.

The best bit is dropping clothes sizes and feeling like there's less lumpy bits. It's hot and I can wear a vest top and shorter skirt without feeling self conscious. Grin

I did take food photos today but my stupid phone wiped loads of things from the memory so just pretend you can see them.

Lunch, I made extra roast chicken and veg last night and had that with some salad and mayonnaise.

Dinner, boiled cauliflower and green beans with fried mushrooms, cheese and three chipolata sausages. I'm not a big fan of boiled veg, prefer to roast it, but this was frozen. Sausages were nice. Also had some raspberries which are good at the moment. Around 800 today. 1 stone 12lb off.

Carb related incident at the cinema today, misheard the woman behind the counter when I was ordering popcorn for DS and ended up with a popcorn for me too. I ate the lot and felt very bloated afterwards. Bloody cinema food.

Dinner, bbq roast chicken pieces with houmous, watercress and veg. Very good. Big family birthday tomorrow and I will be trying to limit the booze and cake.

Well done to everyone on the thread. I might well join you. The weight loss is big for some. That never happens for me - a pound a week is always the most I have ever lost but that's not a problem. There is no need for me to race.

GraceGildee · 24/07/2016 13:02

Hello all, I'm away at the moment for family do. Yesterday had usual breakfast, salad with chicken for lunch. Went out for dinner and had goats cheese starter, salmon with sweet potato and vegetables in creamy sauce, ice cream and birthday cake :) it was delightful and I am back on it today. This is week 8 but I am carrying on.

Hello there, I am going to start this with dh tomorrow, and wondered if I could join your thread? I have read the whole thing, and the bsd book, so I feel fairly prepared. I have about a stone and a half to lose, and dh a bit less. I have really enjoyed all your food diaries (especially Grace's delicious ideas and pictures!)
Just a quick question, I have people coming for dinner at least one night a weekend for the foreseeable, are you all not drinking at all?? Thanks

GraceGildee · 24/07/2016 19:55

Welcome, Swifey! Thing is, alcohol has lots of calories. Some less than others. If you feel you want to drink, then just do it and accept that you may not lose as much as you would otherwise. You'll probably still lose weight if you stick to 800 calories most days. I don't drink much but I had three days of eating and drinking what I wanted and put 6lb on which took me ten days of being strict to lose. Try to drink loads of water too and use My Fitness Pal.

GraceGildee · 25/07/2016 13:54

Here I am on my week 8, I can't believe I have stuck to this and I'm chuffed. It seems to work for me to mainly stick to the 800 calories but accept there will be occasions when I want a drink/cake etc.

My breakfast is the same every day and I make it the night before. Big dollop of Greek yoghurt, spoonful of chopped mixed nuts, some blueberries or cherries and chopped apple. All mixed up and chilled overnight.

Lunch today I had leftovers from last night. If I'm roasting meat and veg I try to do extra for the next day's lunch. I don't like boiled veg so I roast mine or have them raw. I had some chicken, sweet potato, cauliflower, lettuce and houmous. And a bit of avocado.

Congratulations Grace!!!!! Star. As I said, I have loved following your food diary! I am into day 1, and feeling ok, apart from a headache! I have had yoghurt and half a chopped apple for breakfast, and Greek salad for lunch. Supper will be chicken, left over from the bbq yesterday, with roasted red onions, yellow pepper, courgette and purple sprouting broccoli, may have some feta too as there isn't very much chicken! I have had a coffee (flat white) whilst out, and two cups of tea with a dash of milk, is that very bad?
