I've started the 800 calorie Michael Mosley blood sugar diet today. I'm T2 diabetic, menopausal and need a sharp shock to do something about the way I eat.

Weight has crept up post surgeries over the past few years, I have low carbed before then caved in. I'm going to post what I eat and my progress on here as an incentive to stick to this for 8 weeks. Anyone else welcome to do the same.

Breakfast half a lavash bread, smear of tomato purée, lots of mushrooms and sprinkle of grated cheese. Very filling. 189 cal

Lunch. Little gem lettuce leaves with bacon, avocado, cucumber. 234 cal

Dinner chicken breast, sour cream with fajita spices, rocket, cucumber, avocado, celery. 337 cal

Drinking loads of water, a bit hungry.

Evening all

All of these dinners sound (and look) delicious- and cunk has just inspired me to make falafels this week.
I haven't been avoiding tomatoes really, although I probably limit tins of chopped and passata a bit.

Tea tonight for me was leftover chicken and veg from yesterday's roast so now I'm sitting here with my stomach gurgling like a draining washing machine because believe it or not, it isn't bread or dairy that I've an intolerance to, it's bloody chicken!

GraceGildee · 21/06/2016 18:05

I have had three people tell me I've lost weight today 😄 feels good when someone else notices.
Usual for breakfast and same as yesterday for lunch so I didn't bother with photos. For dinner I had some sweet potato fries with spinach, halloumi, mushroom, onions and a bit of cod and fajita spice. And a bit of sour cream. V nice. Off to a gig now and hoping I can stick to Diet Coke.

Well I went out for coffee and didn't have cake. Very pleased with myself, and is a definite change from recent weeks. For lunch I had a chicken breast, hummus and cheese , and for dinner I've for chicken marinated in lazy lemongrass, lazy chilli, peanut butter and a slug of soy sauce. Contemplating whether to do cauli rice, can I be bothered to get the processor out? Or just do stir fry courgette and mushrooms? Feeling pretty good anyway that I've ended the day in the 900s and very low carbs. Hope you've all had a good day!

LolBeansandSalad · 21/06/2016 20:57

Caulk rice, I've only actually made it once- NEVER AGAIN. It tasted nice, but jeez the mess! I was sweeping cauliflower up for weeks, not sure how I managed to balls it up so badly. I buy it ready made now Grin

Tea tonight was chicken (again) and roasted peppers and shallots on a bed of spinach. Topped with some blobs of hummus.

But I've sinned. I had some Guernsey full cream milk delivered today and was craving some ice cold with cereal... so I had 20g of muesli in a ramekin with the smallest splash of the milk Blush

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/06/2016 21:01

Yes Lol I have been finding cauliflower crumbs everywhere since the last time I made it! I opted for stir fry instead, cauli rice is not nice enough to justify the effort!

GraceGildee · 21/06/2016 23:09

Chopped up roasted cauliflower is nicer.

I'm not sure what's going on at the moment, my intake is around the 800 - 900 mark each day but I've put 2 lbs back on. It's extremely annoying. Still I'll stick with it, the weight has to go down at some point. Looking back at MFP I seem to be quite high on fat. Carbs are pretty low, but I need to reverse the fat / protein ratio possibly. I feel a session with the recipient coming on!
Well done on the progress everyone.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/06/2016 07:54

officer I think pretty much everyone has experienced this. I loist a lot in weeks one and two and then virtually nothing in 3,4,5. There's lots of info on the BSD forum, plus on these threads on here. I think its just your body realising what you're doing and rebelling! If you stick with it, your hard work will show.

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 22/06/2016 08:04

Thanks for flagging that newaverage. Please don't be disheartened officer, I don't think it's the amount of fat you're eating, apparently this isn't an issue. When you say low carb, how many grams are you eating a day? I've been trying to stick to around 30grams a day. I want to remain in ketosis, I bought the ketostix so I can keep an eye on this and so far it's working.

I came on to say that it is now 2 weeks exactly since I started and I have lost... 13lbs!!! I am over the moon! Now, if I can lose a pound today it'll be a stone Grin

Yesterday I was walking round M&S and had the most incredible cravings for scones, cakes, anything in the bakery. It was so difficult! The upside is I was pretty darn quick in getting my few bits so I could escape temptation.

officerhinrika · 22/06/2016 11:17

Thanks for the encouragement all. I also meant recipie not recipient! Grin

Grace I've been lurking on here for a while and on the main BSD thread. I'm enjoying all the food pictures. I was intrigued by those Lavash breads so I had a look online and I found them slightly cheaper than Amazon (£2.95 for 4 vs £3.95). Prob only worth it if you're buying in bulk or getting a delivery of meat from there (like I am) as delivery is a little more expensive than Amazon. But they're freezable apparently.

Let me know if you want a referral link as I get some loyalty points and I think you get a free item if you use the link Smile

GraceGildee · 22/06/2016 13:03

Is that on muscle food, code? I don't really use enough meat to order from there but if I do I will let you know.

Once again a trusty lavash lunchtime pizza, with mushrooms, ham, cauliflower and red pepper. I cooked some mixed veg yesterday and put it in the fridge to put in things.

I've only lost half a pound this week but I can see the difference so I'm trying to be patient. Prepping stuff when I have time really helps me, I have two very busy work days coming up so I'm roasting spicy chicken and more veg to cool and keep.

It is Muscle Food, yes Smile they're doing a moneysavingexpert offer at the moment which I'm taking advantage of, haven't used them before but fingers crossed that they're better than Tesco at least!

GraceGildee · 22/06/2016 14:37

Bloody hell I just had two small donut peaches without checking the carbs first. I may as well as had actual donuts. Chicken and salad for tea!

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 22/06/2016 15:44

Okay, I need to ask, what are donut peaches?

GraceGildee · 22/06/2016 16:22

Small flattish peaches, delicious but many many carbs.

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 22/06/2016 16:57

Oooh, now they just look like health personified, I can see why you had them!

I've started a thread on the BSD forum and been advised to go onto the 5:2 instead of this due to my past INCORRECT diagnosis of anorexia. I really don't want to though. Any thoughts welcome. link

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/06/2016 17:56

Personally, I think the other comments I read on your BSD thread are pretty accurate: you only need to do 800 cals if you want to lose weight. You can still be sugar free, you know what foods are high carb (or can check if unsure) and you can avoid any foods with sugar as an ingredient. Some days you might eat a lot, others not so much. I think his maintenance plan of Mediterranean eating might work for you, if you find yourself gaining weight you could always do a day or 2 of 800 cals. I would be wary of limiting calories strictly when your bmi is 21, because you could rapidly become underweight. Bear in mind that in the book he says after 2, 4, weeks to assess your progress and stop the 800 cals of you've reached your goal- what is your goal? A lot of us are on our 2nd round of 800/8 weeks but I know for certain that if I'm not at goal at the end of my 2nd run I'm switching to 5:2 or alternate days because I am wary of long term calorie restriction. I know you want to give your kids a good example re: sugar, but watching your slim mum restrict calories unnecessarily is also not a great message to give them.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/06/2016 17:59

Sorry, just re read that. I 'm sorry if I sounded blunt, I don't mean to be. Flowers

yumyumpoppycat · 22/06/2016 18:14

Cunk I think when people say 5:2 they mean follow the food types advised without logging calories 5 days a week and on the 2 days have 800 cals (rather than the 500 of normal 5:2) MM only reccomends the 800 cals daily for 2 weeks for thin people. Are you eating breakfast, that might be an opportunity for increasing cals? Avacados, olives unsalted Nuts are all high cal and on plan, 2 portions of not sugary fruit, dark chocolate occasionally perhaps? Maybe choose some fattier Maybe you could add in berries and yog with seeds as a desert too?

yumyumpoppycat · 22/06/2016 18:18

Sorry I meant fattier cuts of meat and fish.

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 22/06/2016 18:23

Thank you, I don't mean to derail this thread as it's fantastic, sorry Grace. My goal is to get to 8st 10lbs/ 9st, it's not that much more so I think I'll continue until I've reached that but shall keep trying harder to increase my cals to 800. If I reach that before the 8 weeks are up then I'll go over to the 5:2 to maintain. I know you're speaking sense, thank you again.

yumyumpoppycat · 22/06/2016 18:23

PS like new average I am no longer having 800 daily, more like 5:2. At my most strict I was usually averaging at 900 and I have had a fair few weeks off along the way.

I am a bit disordered with eating (no diagnosed ED) not sure if that is caused by or causes BS probs for me, and actually I could prob do with following the maintenance plan and concentrating just on good food...but havent done it yet feels harder somehow Confused

yumyumpoppycat · 22/06/2016 18:32

Hardly derailing, and just because no one has admitted to a similar issue doesnt mean there aren't people reading this with the same concern. Think your plan sounds good to increase cals, in theory you would continue to lose weight doing the 5:2 version though which is why you could think about implementing it now, or even reverse 2:5 to begin with and see how you go, but I totally understand the desire to reach your goal before shaking the apple tree or whatever the saying is. Flowers

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 22/06/2016 18:34

Yes yumyum, the 800 cals feels safer somehow, it's easier to say to yourself, nope, can't have that, whereas if I were to do the maintenance plan I'd be lost. It's like I'd fall into a bed of cake and never get out again.
