Hi there - another quick question if you don't mind...
On myfitnesspal it's telling me that by exercise I've "earned" another 200 on top of my daily allowance.
Can we count this on this diet/way of eating? Or is it best not to?

Thanks

Not2bObvious · 05/05/2016 15:29

Exercise calories can be vastly over calculated, advice would be to not use them or if you do only assume you've earned 50% of them. Look at them as money in the bank😉

Oh. Drat, I got all excited there thinking I could eat 1200 calories when I got home!

Not2bObvious · 05/05/2016 15:47

No reason you can't have 1 day at 1200 - better to have a little more and fight another day than risk getting exhausted with 800. Are you sure that's your tdee? That's mad low, lower than bmr I'd say. I'm 5.4(and a half) put my activity level as sedentary and I'm looking at 1600-1700 as tdee

OP posts:
Not2bObvious · 05/05/2016 15:48

Unless you had your 800 and was going home to have another 1200 😁 That probably makes more sense

I have, as a rule, had 900-1000 most days and an occasional 800 thrown in maybe twice a week. I think the key is the low carb, Mediterranean way and sugar free-ness, and it seems to have worked well enough for me. My tdee is 1900 though, and that doesn't include exercise but I described myself as moderately active (ie. Not sedentary), so 1000 is still a big drop. I have been really strict on having zero sugar, though. I do find though that a couple of good days at 800 does show on the scales whereas the 9-1000 was very slow.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 05/05/2016 16:29

I've eaten about 400 calories so far and my TDEE is about 1600/1700, I think. Can't remember now! Although I did re-measure myself and gain half an inch (hurray!) so maybe I should re-calculate the whole thing.

H3l3naGraham · 05/05/2016 16:40

All this talk of TDEE is rubbing off.......Phew, managed a 4 mile cycle, not 8, will know about this tomorrow, even though was on the flat, we are both horribly unfit; mind you if we can cycle twice a week & walk 2 miles @ 3 times it should have a positive effect, DH more on board walkies now the weather is better. Mind you he stops & looks at EVERYTHING, like a small child, so takes simply forever.....

Delighted that the jeans fit not2b won't be long before the muffin-top is a thing of the past!

H3l3naGraham · 05/05/2016 17:07

I am catching up! There was some talk about chocolate earlier (no surprises there then...!) I found this at M&S - it's perfect for sharing... Honest, I shared it with DH.

Yes H3, that's the range the stuff I bought was in. I didn't get that one as I wouldn't have shared it!

Not2bObvious · 05/05/2016 17:16

The 800 days do have a hugely positive impact on the scales, if it still looks good I'll confess my hideous Tuesday weight (it was BAD) 2 days @800 with v low carb (20'ish gram) and lots of water/walking have really really helped. But tomorrow will be the confirmation

So, I've been doing trying 800 a day for 8 weeks now with a week off in the middle. Do we think I should go to 5:2 now or carry on?

I've lost 1.10 but want another 2St off on top of that. I'm not having much trouble sticking to the 800 so I'm tempted to just carry on. But is there a reason not to?

I might do it 6 days and have a day off at weekends, trying to keep to 1500ish then.

Anyone have an opinion?

H3l3naGraham · 05/05/2016 17:33

Hi Elvish - I'd keep on going, well I am actually as I have transgressed too often & need to stick it out for a while longer, many on the MM site are doing it long-term too, cos like us they need to shed more ballast. But, to be honest I am doing it 5:2 and on the 2 days off, I try hard to be very carb conscious, apart from wine of course..... Would have hit tgt by now if it wasn't for the alcohol habit... So there is no reason not to continue, but 1 day off a week on Med principles might soften it for you & cut you a bit of slack!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 05/05/2016 18:59

Well done on getting into the jeans Not2b - sitting is over-rated anyway Wink

Obs2016 · 05/05/2016 19:55

I tried to do 800 every day for the 8 weeks.
Tried being the operative word. Actually I was reasonably good.

Today has been a disaster. I was very diabetically low upon waking. Had lucozade, and a foxes classic chocolate bar. Followed by a mint club. Why? Then 2 packets of walkers cheese and onion crisps and a Diet Coke. Then a roast dinner. And a bottle of red wine.

Not good. Whatever you do, don't follow me!!

Obs2016 · 05/05/2016 20:01

Impressed with not2 and her size 10 jeans. Good for you. I will never be a 10 again. But that's ok. I want to be a 12 and would be happy at that.

Not2bObvious · 05/05/2016 20:31

Only with the help of Lycra am I a size 10 in about 3 items obs, I'm not even a size 12 in decently structured trousers😁 It's only a number, and yes standing might be the best way to show these bad boys off gut sucked in, it'll take 2 stone for my second set of boobs to diminish

OP posts:
Not2bObvious · 05/05/2016 20:31

Rib boobs, I have rib boobs hehe

OP posts:
H3l3naGraham · 05/05/2016 20:36

Oh yes... (Dreams of days when could sit comfortably in trousers.......without gut spill-over & indigestion at having to hold my tummy tummies in for hours.....)

Elvish · 05/05/2016 20:41

Rib boobs Grin that just made me genuinely lol as I walked into the polling station. Then I gave my maiden name. I'll be known as the mad women at No.13 from now on. Wink

Not2bObvious · 05/05/2016 22:11

Aww Elvish you're a local character now 😉 Honestly it's a good thing I gave up the running, 2 sports bras would be ruinously expensive!

Morning all. WI done and I'm down from 11.3.4 last Friday to 11.3 - this is spectacular because I was 11.9.8 on Tuesday morning after what I thought wasn't the worst weekend. But on the Monday I ate a lot, Chinese/bread/biscuits/crisps. I was so upset seeing a 6.4lb gain on Tuesday I can't describe it. But 3 solid days of c800 (had 1050 yesterday) turned it around. I have no doubt if I hadn't reeled it in sharply, I wouldn't be seeing .4 loss, I'd be seeing 2-3lb gain. I'm still on target for reaching my holiday goal weight & I am 100% committed to keeping myself in check this weekend. I don't know if you use this saying in the UK but we say "check yourself", it's a kinda sarky statement meaning to get a grip. Anyway funny little story on an Irish satirical/comedy website titled "Check yourself before you wreck yourself" and that's my motto from now until bedtime Sunday! Happy Friday lushettes 😘

H3l3naGraham · 06/05/2016 09:16

Great news not2b - lovely to hear the positive result after a significant rise; like you I am committed too, 6 weeks to go & Italy beckons, have no intention of displacing all the water in the pool this year, intend to slide in gracefully, Jackie O sunglasses on my head, bright turquoise swimming cozzie, red lips..... The reality will be white legs, burnt arms, mozzie bites & frizzy hair, but hey, I can but dream!! Wink

Let's be careful out there (thinks Hill Street Blues) this weekend, summer temptations beckon!

NeededANameChangeAnyway · 06/05/2016 11:12

Morning all! I've gone up 1/4 pounds since yesterdays curry cookery course...I'll take that as a win considering how many popadums I ate...!

My veggie low carb book has arrived! Sadly after breakfast but hopefully something interesting in there for lunch yes, am already thinking about lunch

Plan is to aim for 800 cals and under 40g of carbs - I am still not quite getting to grips with the fundamentals of this diet - does that sound ok? Or no carbs at all?

NeededANameChangeAnyway · 06/05/2016 11:18

Drat. That wasn't my book Sad salad and eggs again for lunch I guess...
