Welcome back moo - your plan sounds good. I've been the same losing & regaining weight. I got blood tests and I was a little low in iron but no thyroid to explain how my efforts (imo) didn't yield results. But the fact is to lose and keep off weight can be really really hard and you have to commit to it. I think that's why bsd works so well, cause the first stage is just 8 weeks. So there's a beginning & end. Other weight loss plans drag on interminably and feel so consistently restrictive, it's hard not to fall. I'm not saying this is the case with you but I wasn't losing because over time I was taking in way more than I was burning. Once I admitted that and got over feeling deprived something clicked. Anyway sorry for the lecture, wishing you lots of success

Hello all, I'm starting the 800 calorie diet today. I'm diabetic t2, carrying it all around my middle and need to do something dramatic to get back on track. Any tips welcome. I'm used to low carbing but this time determined not to cheat. I've just had a sort of breakfast pizza at nearly 200 calories :)

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/06/2016 13:34

On my way home from Cornwall, had a lovely holiday but I definitely veered off plan the last two days, drank too much and I'm sure it will show on the scales! Starting a fresh 8 weeks tomorrow, back to bsd basics which I'm oddly looking forward to, particularly the energy boost. I have nothing in the diary now for a few weeks, could easily do a good blast of 800 cals days! Provided I haven't gained stupid amounts while away, I'm aiming for 10.7 as my final target after round 2, which will be about 2-2.5lb a week, so do-able but will require focus. Hope you're all having a great Saturday!

PuckyMup · 04/06/2016 15:27

Hi everyone :)

Glad to see some new faces - I'll be a week in on Tuesday so still a newbie :)
I think today might be the first day I'll hit 800 and not go over - I've had to go over until now to stop the hunger but today I lasted until 3 to have "Brunch" so just dinner to have so it'll be unlikely to all go wrong between now and bed time as I'm busy and full!

GraceGildee · 04/06/2016 17:01

Does anyone post their food diaries on here? Just wondered if I could start another thread for that or do it on here?

mootime · 04/06/2016 17:51

Thank not 2b, I guess the reason I'm wondering about the pill is that if lost 2.5 stone until then, that was my lowest and I've struggled since. So it feels like it stalled my loss. It could however be the chocolate ...

Not2bObvious · 04/06/2016 18:00

Yeah, it was the unholy trilogy for me...chocolate-wine-crisps! Just stick with the plan as best you can (poet didn't know it😉) Be honest tracking your cals, get your steps & your water in. Then repeat for 8 weeks. Then 10 pounds will go, and properly go. My body has suddenly settled into my new weight and people have started to comment. My sil actually looked shocked! I was delighted if a bit taken aback. It was so genuine it made me believe it too.
Welcome grace, people do talk about what they eat but I don't think we've done a full on food diary thing? Work away though, all input useful & welcome I'm sure

PuckyMup · 04/06/2016 22:35

Not a win today. Lost the plot for dinner due to lack of prior planning and ended up at a total today of 88g of carbs.

Lets try again tomorrow eh!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/06/2016 13:26

Hi everyone. I had my post holiday weigh in, I've only gone and stayed the same! I'm chuffed with that, although I am feeling a little chunky round the middle. That has totally spurred me on to get straight back on track.
grace I would join a food diary thread if you set one up (nudge nudge), perhaps we could even post photos/recipes of our 800 calorie days as inspiration? If you do set it up could you link to it on here please?
So far today I've had my milk in coffee, chicken and salad for lunch and some full fat Greek with a few raspberries. Tea is a stuffed mushroom or pepper.
Tesco do a nice range in their veg section of pre prepared veg dishes. Some are quite carby (Eg the veg bake has potato in it) but I have bought some mini stuffed spinach and ricotta mushrooms, some portobello stuffed with goats cheese, and a cauliflower cheese bake. The mushrooms for example are 200 cals approx for the whole pack, so if you like something to just bung in the oven after work, they might be helpful or if like me you just sometimes can't be bothered.

GraceGildee · 05/06/2016 13:51

I have started a thread (link below) of my food diary, everyone welcome to join in and post daily about what you are eating and how it's going, pictures too. I think this will help me stay on track, along with this thread.

H3l3naGraham · 05/06/2016 18:27

Hello ladies! Well, as usual the weekend in London proved rather alcoholic, although I didn't eat much yesterday I did consume rather a few calories through alcohol, but haven't had any today. Hotel got my breakfast wrong, so instead of chili-scrambled eggs with avocado, they presented me with a sort of full-English.... But I didn't eat it all, and it's all I've had all day. Salad tonight with a tin of tuna, then 800 calories Mon, Tues, Wed. Up to London on Thurs for a huge function relating to the Queen's Birthday on Friday, seeing friends on Sat (but one doesn't drink much, so I'll try to match her abstemiousness), another bash for the Queen's birthday on Sunday (eek) then we fly to Italy for our summer hols on Monday week .... the scales tomorrow AM will prove interesting, to put it mildly..... But I can still get into my new swimming cozzie & shorts which is a relief, as soon as we got home today I rushed upstairs & tried them on......!!

Welcome on board Grace & 28 - nice to have some new input, I don't really do a week's food plan, it's more a case of buying stuff that's on-diet & throwing things at pans; that said breakfast this week will be youghurt, seed sprinkles (or dust as DH calls it), blueberries & a few raspberries. Lunches will be the BSD book's ploughman's or cheese topped mushrooms & salad, dinners will be freezer food I've made & pre-frozen, so salmon & lentils, cheat's cassoulet & a chicken pepper affair.

Hello moo - you will do what you need in 6 weeks, you have the time, and you have one of the best reasons to hang on in there, a holiday to look forward to! I am so excited about mine, not been away for over a year, I mustn't go mad when I get there!!

mootime · 05/06/2016 22:14

Hi all,
I've had a bit of a blow out and finished off some of the bad things in the house ( I known this isn't helpful!)
H3 sounds like a lovely weekend and a nice holiday to look forward to.

Quite looking forward to restarting, although scared to get back on the scales (actually tempted to leave it a few days).

I've a tennis lesson tomorrow eve and am going to do c25k with a friend to so should be good to help getting fit.

yumyumpoppycat · 05/06/2016 22:36

Wow H3 do you know the queen!!!

Just wanted to say if anyone has been doing this for a while and is looking for a good boost it might be worth redoing the test on the nhs website thebloodsugardiet.com/ to see about risks of having/ developing type 2....I think when I started bsd in Jan my risk of already having type 2 was 1 in 50, and my chance of developing it in the next 10 years was 1 in 10...now my risk are low 1 in 200 of already having it and 1 in 20 of developing it in the next 10 years. Just need to keep it like that now!

oolaroola · 05/06/2016 22:38

Wine is the gateway drug to sugar!!! Aargh.

So , had my first proper drop off the wagon. Been so stressed with work, had been feeling miserable for a week or so.
Large glass of white sorted that out and then some sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream, then a bit more white wine. Managed to avoid the chips with the steak mind, but small consolation.
Really enjoyed it though and was a much needed psychological boost. Was actually feeling a bit worried about my low mood lately and turns out what I needed was a bit of a blow out.
Back on the wagon tomorrow!

lookingforhope · 05/06/2016 23:30

Hi ladies, back again after hectic work week, busy Saturday and bone idle day today where I sat in the sun with a book and didn't do any exercise

I like the food diary idea Grace, will have a look this week and try to join in, though this is going to be my super busy month work wise (staying in a hotel for 3 weeks of it Shock ) so not sure how I will stay on plan ....

Weighing in tomorrow. Have been pretty good all week, stayed off the booze all weekend too when DH was drinking and most days under 1000 with a few under 800. Had very odd eating day today which was just basic all day nibbling of things with very low calories like veg but generally the only way I can do 800 is just not to eat until lunchtime, I cannot stretch 800 calories to 3 meals, so be interesting to see what you all eat.

H3l3na where are you going on holiday? I am away at the end of July, can't wait. In answer to your question up thread (sorry for late response) the food programme on BBC had no startling insights except that the superfoods like Quinoa and Goji Berries, when rigorously tested for their effect on the body, are no different from ordinary affordable things like pearl barley and strawberries, nutrition-wise. And vitamin supplements largely came off badly (as in made no difference) and they also proved what we LCers already know which is that bacon and eggs is a better breakfast than cereal or fruit and yoghurt for stopping hunger. As someone who thinks quinoa would be better used lining the bottom of a bird cage than feeding me, I felt vindicated Grin

Oola one slip won't kill you - I got away with my turkish meal and the Sauvignon mid-week. I hope you really enjoyed your treat.

Moo I am also scared of my scales Grin. I have had such trouble losing weight before, they have become my enemy. Am hoping this diet will be different (so far so good but also nervous of weighing tomorrow)

Bear staying the same after a holiday is brilliant! I would be thrilled with that. Go on, tell us, what are your holiday tips? hoping that Bear found a way to drink beer and eat ice cream with abandon while still staying slim Blush

Waving to Pucky, Not2Be, Poppycat and all you other BSDers. Hope we all have a good week....

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/06/2016 08:08

hope my only advice is to still plan and not just free rein...every day I decided what my treat was going to be, (most days wine, but 2 days I had an ice cream) and the rest of my meals were on plan. I didn't calorie count, but i didn't have loads at each meal and had no pasta, rice, potatoes or bread. Alcohol wise it was red wine or gin and slimline, altnough I found the taste of the aspartame in the slimline tonic was overpowering. I'm not a big drinker and have little children so that does help me keep my alcohol intake quite low! I told myself at the beginning of the week that I'd keep going as long as I could, and made it to Wednesday without sugar/ice cream which I was pleased about. At the end of the day its your holiday so enjoy yourself, but I knew if I went crazy on food I wouldn't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed my one special treat each day. This is a massive change for me and my mentality, another reason why I love this plan! I also think that after weeks of eating this way, the appetite naturally curbs at a lower number of calories, provided the calories are still on plan iyswim. (1200 cals of healthy foods will fill you up to stuffed whereas 1200 cals of white bread and ice cream leaves you wanting).

lookingforhope · 06/06/2016 08:12

Aaaaagh!!!! Angry I was right to be scared of my scales. Have gone from 5lb down to 2lb on, then 2 off and another on over the last 3 weeks. So net loss is 4lb in 3 weeks. I have gone over 1000 maybe three times and then not by much, and most days have been 800 - 900 and low carb. Even the 1.5 inch off my waist seems a fluke as 1/2 inch has returned Shock I really think my metabolism is wrecked as I can see it working for everyone else Sad. I sometimes feel I could be anorexic and still fat. If I could afford Lipo I bet the fat would cling on in there and refuse to move. Gutted Sad

lookingforhope · 06/06/2016 08:46

Ps Bear cross posted there. Thanks for the advice, it does sound very sensible and admire how well you've done on holiday. Am sure it will work for anyone else. I just feel like I am a freak fatty. Sorry to bring the thread down Sad. I'm sure BSD works for normal people (sigh). Just feeling so fed up after eating so little. Even a pound off would have made me happy....

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/06/2016 08:58

hope don't give up. You're still lighter then when you started, and, if you're like me, considerably lighter than if you hadn't done it at all (I know I could gain a good few pounds in 3 weeks!). Lots of people experinece this and then it restarts. You are retraining your body and sometimes it rebels! Helena said once on here that its not so much about the calories but about the quality, (that was the gist), so maybe look at at your foods, check your carbs, look for hidden sugars in things, cut right back on fruit, or give yourself a shorter eating 'window' each day. Perhaps like the poster above you need a 'blow out' day. I found that when I was hormonal I needed a free day, so unlimited calories but stayed sugar free, would gorge on meat and nuts and just boost myself that way. But don't give up, because when it eventually kicks in you'll be so proud of yourself.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/06/2016 09:04

Also, one thing I always believed in when I did slimming world and would lose half a pound a week for three years was that 'a good week always shows'. If you have had a good week, in calorie deficit, it will show. It might take a while, but it will eventually. What stops it showing is 'f*°÷ it thinking' (ie I'm not going to lose any weight on this plan, so what I'll do is eat 6 creme eggs, because that'll show the scales who's boss' Hmm)

H3l3naGraham · 06/06/2016 09:08

Hello Ladies!

Hope - it took me weeks to lose more than 2lbs, I started on SIRT then as I couldn't stand the smell of the juice (compost stink) I moved over to BSD, but it was over 1 month before weight started to shift, so please don't give up. It's rare for people to have metabolic disorders, usually women (or men) in their 30's have a similar range, then women in their 40's etc HANG ON IN THERE. I have now lost just shy of 2st & my body shape has changed dramatically.

There were also postings on the BSD site from the early-adopters that the older one's fat is, the tougher it seems to be to shift, so I have no illusions about how difficult the next 1.5st are going to be for me, especially the visceral fat which I know yumyum has posted about wanting to lose as well, thank you for that NHS link too.

We are going to Sicily next Monday, a 3 centre break, I know it's going to be challenging on the food front, but I like the idea that bear has run with, 1 treat a day, that should be ok on hols. That will be wine then..... I can live without pasta, have no desire for cakes or most sweet stuff, but do like the occasional proper ice-cream, so can see a small gelato or 2 coming my way whilst we are there!!

yumyum - we don't know the Queen but DH's commitments do mean that we get to go to some very special functions, white-tie, tiara type stuff, although this Friday's will just be a posh-frock & hat job, very privileged I have no illusions about it at all, but it is extremely hard to keep my hands off the canapés & lips away from the fizz/wine/whatever as it's always delicious.....

oola - before I started this I got rid of anything in the kitchen that might tempt me in downward moments, so any rice, noodles, gnocchi, crisps, pasta (wasn't much but it had to go), biscuits etc all went to my neighbour - so now if I am really having the munchies, I eat a small piece of cheese or a few almonds/walnut 1/2's, have also discovered seaweed thins which are a suitable alternative to crisps. My big weakness is wine but have cut that back to functions & socialising only, we no longer drink at home unless we have friends over; as DH has gallons of the stuff stored away, this is a challenge but I can honestly say that unless we have lots of dos to go to & a week of meeting mates then we are usually dry, at least 3 nights, 4 in many cases, aiming for 5, but considering the wine lakes we used to quaff, this is a real result! oola I now drink red instead of white, has more good things in it that white, but I know that this doesn't suit everyone.

Right, laundry to do, clothes to unearth, packing to consider and ironing ...........hate ironing, simply loathe it, but it will keep me busy for a while!!!!

H3l3naGraham · 06/06/2016 09:15

Oops, sorry hope thank you for the info on the so-called superfoods, I had my doubts about the budgie-food too, have always been sceptical about a lot of these 'discoveries' and am delighted that the likes of strawberries, raspberries & barley give us the nutrition we need!!! I did record the programme, just the likelihood of watching it before Thursday is pushing it!!

Stellar67 · 06/06/2016 09:17

May I join? I have been advised to avoid breads and pasta but I haven't. Ordered MM book after a bit of googling and found you all. I've decided to just get going today.

Sorry to hear you're struggling keep I had wayyy too many big weekends and while they didn't ruin my efforts, I stayed pretty static. I just had to find a better way and that's been to keep to tdee on weekends and 800 during the week so it's balanced out as a 4:3, 4 days at 800-1100 and 3 at 1600-2000. I've held myself accountable, although I have to say this weekend as I was away I ate/drank/was v merry. But come tomorrow I'm back to 800-1100 and exercising properly. I don't know whether SW would suit you better, bsd isn't going to fit everyone. But I've done SW and WW a number of times and they didn't work for me. I know I'm like a broken record but bsd @800 for 8 weeks is just that, 800 for 8 weeks as a short/sharp kick to the system. After that mix it up with a 5:2 version of it, med style. I'm doing 4:3 as I still have 10-17 pound to lose and I want to see 5-8 of that gone before my holidays in 4 weeks. After that I'll do 5:2, cause if I lose 5-8 over the next month, I know it'll take time to shift the last stubborn & very old fat.
Can't remember who said about doing C25K, it can be very hard to run on bsd due to the v low cal/carb so you'll probably be fine for the first few weeks but the longer runs can be impossible. See how you go but the recommendations are 10,000 steps a day and hiit sessions 2-3 times a week.
