That seems like quite a realistic target not!!
I've got 4.5 lbs to go until I'm officially not overweight according to BMI calcs.
Just made a birthday choc cake for DSS - I really want to scoff it but am gonna resist. We're cooking japanese food later for him at his request, so that'll be yummy enough.

It's soooo hot here - I almost melted in the greenhouse!

Not2bObvious · 28/05/2016 15:23

Only 4.5 to go oola, that's amazing! Chocolate cake yummm, well done on resisting. I've eaten the remainder of my slice of rocky road I bought yesterday, I remember snaffling them in 5 minutes before so that's progress for me. I ate it in 5 sittings! That being said, I won't be buying another one for some time - they're calorie bombastic. And unbelievably moreish
Place, it's taken me 3.5 months to get to here, and I can't believe how fast it's gone, I bet you'll get there before Christmas.

Hi all!

On the subject of BMI, I know we all know it's a bit out of date & was created by US insurance companies back in the 1930's for less than good reasons, so here is another way to gauge fatty bits/health impact :

Measure your height with string, then fold that length in half, if this then doesn't fit around your waist you are probably carrying too much weight around your middle i.e. visceral fat around your internal organs. This waist-to-height ratio may give a better indication of your risk of diabetes & heart disease as BMI doesn't show where fat is stored (nor does it show if you are a rugby player or heavyweight boxer...) & tummy fat is a key risk factor. Courtesy of Boots Magazine!

H3l3naGraham · 28/05/2016 16:37

10lbs in 5 weeks, that's 2lbs a week not2b , am so sure you'll get there, especially as the weather's getting warmer, long evenings etc, not carb-filled winter nights! Just focus on your swimming cozzie!

On the subject of clothes... M&S .... Have size 16 jeans recently bought which are now far too big, slipping down, so have had to get belts for 1st time in years, size 14s in exactly the same style (skinny legged) are way too small.

Size 18 cut-offs bought 4 years ago & never worn, are now a nice fit, size 18s bought this year are in Charity shop as looked like grand-dad's trousers they were so big..

Some size 18 white cut-offs bought last year are now a non-starter, but the size 16s are a good fit...

Size 18 simply fabulous trousers bought in Monsoon 4 years ago & never worn as too small by a country mile are now like clowns trousers.

Anyone else going through size-stress?! Nice position to be in at long last Winkbut daren't buy anything Mail Order as will be spending rest of summer queuing at Post Office for exchanges at this rate.

Not2bObvious · 28/05/2016 17:49

I am - too many loose jeans! A good complaint I know but some of them I loved and I'm loathe to buy anything until I get to goal. So I have 3 pairs of jeans that fit & flatter. The others make me look shapeless. Isn't it funny how sizes vary so much, even in the same store (looking at you M&S😡)

OP posts:
APlaceOnTheCouch · 28/05/2016 18:05

Yy the variation in sizes is astonishing! I bought a dress from M&S and it's a 14. Whilst the trousers I bought are a 16. The 14s were way too tight.

I have a size 12 jumpsuit it was a gift I tried it on the other day and it now fits! For the first time in years, I'm checking measurements on online size charts or venturing into changing rooms. Otherwise I have no idea what will fit.

H3l3naGraham · 28/05/2016 19:12

Ah yes, changing room pergatory..........which is why I prefer to order on-line & try to squeeze into things, swear & cry in the privacy of my own bedroom.......Hmm

APlaceOnTheCouch · 28/05/2016 19:40

I made the mistake of taking DS with me the last time which meant my huffing and puffing was accompanied by his little (but loud) voice saying 'That isn't nice mummy' and 'That dress makes you look as though you have a fat tummy' Hmm Luckily there were some 'That's very pretty mummy' too.

H3l3naGraham · 28/05/2016 20:15

Ah yes couch out of the mouths of babes..... Nothing quite beats it eh?!

Peasandsweetcorn · 28/05/2016 20:34

Well done place. Fantastic work
Bear I also have young DC and am amazed that I used to carry that weight around with me all the time.
Another weekend & another shattering of good intentions here. But, boy, have I enjoyed! Last night was spontaneous drinks and then dinner out with a friend. I did manage to stick to low carb/low sugar principles at dinner but obvious the alcohol was off piste. Today I have had carbs, sugar & a lot of pimms. It was so nice to say yes --and sort of feel like I was in a movie laughing & drinking with friends in the sunshine- but I think my chances of reaching 10st on Mon are 0!

lookingforhope · 29/05/2016 09:56

Help! Weighed in just now and gained 2lb, yet despite burger blip at horrible trade show have been good all week. Not a drop of alcohol and under 900 calories 6 days out of 7. Am so fed up. This is the most extreme diet I've ever done post teens and the only one that seemed to be working (lost 5lb week 1) but I really believe my metabolism is broken and I'm destined to always be fat Sad. I know it's still a net loss of 3lb but how can I be eating so little and not getting smaller?

Not2bObvious · 29/05/2016 10:51

You didn't gain 2 pound, it's just bloat or waste. I had a gain of 7.4 pound over a weekend, it was gone 4 days later, the following week I had a 6.4 gain, it went away again after 4 days taking another pound with it. Drink plenty of water today and tomorrow, weigh in Tuesday or Wednesday and I bet it will be gone.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 29/05/2016 11:04

Yy Not2b is right. I was up 2lbs at the start of this week then back down those 2lbs and lost another 2lbs by Friday.

As long as your carbs are ok then BSD will work but your scales won't always move in the one direction. Look at when you are eating too. I find if my first meal is about 11am then it has an impact on the scales.

H3l3naGraham · 29/05/2016 11:16

Hello hope - I fully agree with not2b & couch - drink lots of water, try to get your steps in & watch the carbs more than the calories, I eat between 800 + 1k every day & I lose more if I really watch the carbs which includes milk in tea & coffee. There is a school of thought that says we should only weigh-in weekly, not daily, but opinions vary hugely on this.

I've had supposedly static weeks & I mean weeks but then my clothes started almost hanging off me, so something was happening & it will for you too. Just hang on in there, I'm now 2st down with lots more to go, but it works & with any luck will re-shape your thoughts about carbs forever!!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 29/05/2016 11:43

Yes, h3l3na the static weeks are a very good point. I felt as though I was stalled for weeks, just fluctuating up and down by a pound or two. It was disheartening but then suddenly I started losing again. It's why this group is so helpful. I would have been tempted to give up at those points but wise posters said to keep going and I am glad I did.

lookingforhope · 29/05/2016 12:14

Phew, thanks for the rapid response ladies. The only carbs I have are in vegetables and fruit (just berries in Greek yoghurt occasionally) and now and again a couple of dark ryvita if calories and carbs very low for the day. I had smoked salmon and eggs for brunch, am now out for the day so won't eat till dinner which is steak and salad . This is a lovely supportive thread, thanks so much for your wise advice. Hope you all have a good Sunday x

Peasandsweetcorn · 29/05/2016 18:29

looking it isn't all about the scales. How are you feeling in yourself? Last year, when doing 5:2 and running for the first time in years, I stayed the exact same weight for 7 weeks but was visibly shrinking.
Usual breakfast of yogurt today; picnic lunch and virtuously had a salad rather than sandwiches but did have a couple of little scotch eggs & sausage rolls; didn't have an ice cream when everyone else did BUT came home to find chocolates dropped off by a friend & I ate the lot! My intentions disappeared in a puff of smoke. Now feeling bloated & woolly headed rather than the slim person I felt like on Friday. Pah!

oolaroola · 29/05/2016 18:59

I agree with what's been said before.
I lost loads the first week, then was static for the next 2 weeks! with a few gains here and there, but I did feel better, more energy, etc. Then the scales started moving again.
It's a psychological process as much as a physical one. Don't be thrown off course and you will see the benefits - good luck x

APlaceOnTheCouch · 29/05/2016 20:04

peas I did the same except it was an omelette; sausage traybake; salad ...then a chocolate eclair! Not much walking either because I had a headache.

Tomorrow will be better - with no Cake for me!

Not2bObvious · 30/05/2016 11:07

Morning all. Survived the weekend without going too mad but all the same I think I'll put the scales away until Friday - I need to get better at not letting it rule my life. But I am terribly addicted to it so we'll have to see. Full of good intentions as usual although I did have a slice of wholemeal toast with pb this morningBlush

Afternoon (nearly) all! Horrendous hangover, even ate a curry last night, got so p-ssed AngryAngryAngryAngry furious at self. Then woke up this AM to a power cut, have isolated it to the virtually new boiler which is leaking water. Gulp. Plumber on way, pleased we made friends with him as a B Hol call out is a big ask.

Managed to get grill to work so had slice of toast, you & me both on the toast not2b .....

perhaps we should ban weekends in this house, would solve lots of issues the main one being alcohol..... Rebooking at hypnotherapist idea....need self-control assistance urgently.

Not2bObvious · 30/05/2016 12:18

Oh sugar H3l, that wasn't a ice thing to wake up to. No BH here, that's next weekend. I had a brutal head yesterday but I survived it without too much damage on the cal front but wrt carbs, I didn't do so good. The demon drink 😖

OP posts:
oolaroola · 30/05/2016 15:02

Hang tight ladies. Drink as much water as you can and don't beat yourselves up.
Always a good idea to put the scales aside when you're feeling shit about yourself.

Your downward trajectories will be intact and I'm sure you'll get to grips with the weekend slip-ups. It's tough out there sometimes in the world of BSD.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/05/2016 17:56

Hi ladies, just checking in from beautiful sunny Cornwall! Weather is fabulous. I'm still on track, I'm not calorie counting but have allowed myself this freedom in exchange for no sugar and v low carbs. Not managing too badly on cooked breakfast, salad lunch and BBQ tea, although there may have been a few glasses of wine! Doing lots of walking and have managed a quick jog each morning too. I'm feeling quite virtuous actually as the rest of the family ( we're away as a group of 16!) are tucking into all kinds of delights. I'm just reciting my mantra in my head, no thanks I'd rather be skinny! It's working for now. Hope you're all having a fabulous bank hols?

H3l3naGraham · 30/05/2016 18:33

Hello bear delighted your hols have started so well, E Kent is grey and it's blowing a hoolie, not BBQ weather at all, poss a good thing because we'd only break out the wine along with the steaks if it was nice!

Did manage a good walk today, which is something (shame about the rock-cake in the cafe...) but am suffering from yesterday's transgressions, tomorrow is another day, menu planned !
