I agree about hhe carbs thing too, I really struggled in those middle weeks to keep carbs under 50 and cals under 800. I seemed to do either one or the other! This week I've been really quite strict and have managed it (except yesterday) and I'm hoping it will show on the scales!
yesterday we went out for the day, I managed OK while out, had ham salad for lunch, no ice cream, etc.....but then got too hungry and ate a rather generous slice of pork pie, sans crust, that dh bought from a farmers market. My rough guesstimate of calories based on weight is probably about 450! So went for a tdee day to save face and managed it, by having salad again for tea and no picking!
Today, going to go for a jog and get out in the sunshine. Just had an egg based brunch and we've got roast chicken for tea, so should hopefully do 800 again today.
With regards to the 'woosh' phenomenon, I perseonally didn't experience it after the plateau, but I suppose all the tiny weight losses begin to add up and I'm pleased with the overall numbers. Those middle weeks were hardest for me, the impact of eating low cal takes its toll and the initial weight loss slows down. Stick with it though, I'm so proud of myself for doing nearly 8 weeks!

H3l3naGraham · 15/05/2016 13:40

Well done newbear - I am just eating twice today to make up for last night's Eurovision wine-fest...... curtains another thing that occurred to me earlier, is, are you drinking enough water, you need to get 2 litres inside yourself every day, never mind tea or coffees, this has positive effects?

toomuchtooold · 16/05/2016 06:43

Hello al! Started the diet last Monday. I'm finding it a bit easier now, first few days were really tough... but I've lost about 4lb and more encouragingly there's a bunch of clothes that didn't fit me any more that now fit again! I'm switching to 5:2 this week/next week as I'm going back to my home country where I haven't been for 3 years... don't want to miss out on the excellent food! I just need to keep the head, because I am so enjoying finally after 4 years since my daughters were born, my weight is going down instead of always up... I'm a definite risk for diabetes, BMI 29, waist measurement over 33, total pasta and bread addict. It's a massive change doing low carb and very low cal, but I'm finding it easier than "slowly and gradually" which always ended up meaning quibbling over every mouthful and never knowing if I was doing enough to make a difference.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/05/2016 07:23

Welcome too much!
Today, drum roll please.......I am in NEW NUMBERS! I started in the 13s and I'm now in the 11s. That's put me in a fantastic mood, I am chuffed! (Is it fickle to be so easily pleased??)
2_ days at 800 planned ready for my final weigh in. Hope you have all had a good weekend and have a great Monday

oolaroola · 16/05/2016 07:52

Brilliant monday morning news bear!! Well done, enjoy the feelling.

I had a lovely weekend. Didn't do much but there was a nice atmosphere at home and the sun was shining so all was good chez Oola.

Can't believe I'll be starting week 7 on weds. It's gone fast and am feeling settled today. Need to do the food shop later which I hate but will plan some tasty meals.
When the weather is hot I can't be bothered to eat as much so find it easier on this plan.

Hope everyone else had a good weekend!

Not2bObvious · 16/05/2016 08:36

Wow the, that's a significant achievement! Dance and skip away, it all counts towards your 10,000 steps😉
Feel like an Oompa Loompa this morning, even wearing orange in honour of this feeling😁 Put remains of any bad behaviour away like I did 2 weeks ago so I can't be tempted by goodies/baddies on show. Maintenance Week 4 day 4 here and let's just say my maintenance period is just that, no decent losses. Gain huge amounts over weekend, lose over week, rinse/repeat. I had hoped to average out 1 pound a week off, my start weight after my 8 weeks was 11.4.8 (had gained .8 after the 8 weeks, was 11.4) and last Friday I was 11.4.2 - can't discuss what the scales showed this morning, desparately hoping it's just bloat. Going to aim for 800 for the next 4 days

Hey bear that's amazing - well done!

Well it's been a lovely weekend, but definitely not an on-plan one. We had a houseful yesterday and there was cake and home made bread and beer and wine....
...so I took the day off completely from counting, weighing etc.

I was going to try to counter it all with a bootcamp session at the park early this morning, but of course we all slept in (even the kids, which is unheard of), and woke up with less than half an hour to all get ready, breakfast and out of the house!! Might try and run later instead.

I'll be good this week, and next weekend the kids are largely out at parties etc, and DH will be away for the weekend and a few days the following week, so that will give me a chance to get back on track in a sustained way. Or that's the plan, anyway.

On the positive side - NSV at our little party yesterday I wore a lovely linen t-shirt which I got as a present about 3 years ago. I've worn it only occasionally in the past, and usually covered up with a cardi, as it's not been flattering of the old muffin top. Wore it with confidence yesterday!

H3l3naGraham · 16/05/2016 09:31

Excellent news bear & a lovely NSV cake - I had a bad Sunday following the Eurovision party which went on until nearly 3AM, so need to get back on track this week & sort out in my head how to handle weekends.... not2b perhaps we should look at an anti-catastrophe strategy, how to relax at weekends without undoing a whole week's worth of effort. Wish I had more of bear's willpower... Grrrrrr

Not2bObvious · 16/05/2016 09:40

I think I need to be put in a self induced coma at weekends H3l!
Great nsv bear, great feeling isn't it?

H3l3naGraham · 16/05/2016 09:50

I am re-investigating hypnotherapy not2b - local chap has vanished so am going to look at seeing someone when we visit London; which is often enough, need to get this under control, or I will still be struggling this time next year. Want to see the back of another 1/2 stone before we go on holiday!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/05/2016 09:59

h3l3na its not so much willpower as lack of opportunity, you sound like you have a fabulous social life! If someone turned up at my house with cake and beer and bread, I'd be right in there. My test will be Saturday, ds's 4th birthday party. I have been given strict instructions for a dinosaur jurrasic landscape cake with a chocolate volcano. I'll probably consume a day's calories in raw cake mix just making the damn thing....

H3l3naGraham · 16/05/2016 10:07

That cake sounds like some challenge not2b on both the creative front & the irresistibility front, I don't envy you that much temptation, never mind all the other nibbly things which you'll have to put together for a small child's birthday! You could make it wearing your new, nearly-fitting jeans or your swimming cozzie, to keep focussed (only joking, mind you, might have some value here if I pranced around in my cozzie it might keep my hand off the wine-glass....) Wink

APlaceOnTheCouch · 16/05/2016 12:25

Well done thenewaveragebear ! Excellent news! That's exactly my aim. I started with a 13 and want to get down to starting with an 11. I'm currently at a 12.

Although I doubt it will happen this week as I had my worst day ever yesterday. My cold suddenly became worse so I couldn't move without coughing. I spent the entire day wrapped up in blankets and ended up ordering in pizza . . .and eating it . . .and eating dark chocolate. I ended up at 1600 cals and 221g carbs Shock

I have an online shop coming today so will have lots of healthy food for the rest of the week. I'm hoping if I run at about 600 cals for the rest of the week, it will all even out. well except for the carbs

H3l3naGraham · 16/05/2016 14:32

Sorry to hear that you have copped a bad cold couch - I think 600 calories is a little on the harsh side for a week, you'll be eating the carpet by Friday at that rate; cut yourself some slack & do 800. The carb damage is done, we all know that this has a longer term effect than just dropping calories can rectify in the short-term; I'd get back on 800 & look to nxt week for a boot-camp approach.

Not2bObvious · 16/05/2016 17:33

Ditto H3l aplace, no need to be so harsh on yourself, 800 is starvation enough - 600 is foolish, you could pass out on that little for days on end.
So far so good today, 670 and enough left for an almond&pb2 shake after I do my walk. Might as well take advantage of the sun before the weather cracks

clare8allthepies · 16/05/2016 18:55

After a booze filled but otherwise low carb weekend I'm 11 stone 3.4 which is about a pound and a half off this week and exactly 12 pounds altogether. I ordered a dress online in a sale in a 12 which arrived today. I tried it on and can nearly do it up but it's definitely a size too small right now, hopefully it will motivate me a bit more!

Not2bObvious · 16/05/2016 19:30

That's excellent clare, how many weeks have you done? Imagine how tight the dress would have been at 12 pound heavier. Won't be long until it fits. Felt extremely heavy this morning but light eating and decent walk done, I'm starting to feel better. 24gr carbs, 770 cals - day 1 of 4 done - kitchen is closed! Input my meals for tomorrow into mfp and now I just have to stick to the plan. Sounds simply eh? 😕

H3l3naGraham · 16/05/2016 19:35

It's a wonderful feeling clare when you fit into something you couldn't wear in the past! I had a new (old) pair of trousers, never worn them, but loved them so I kept them for years, they now hang off me, can't wear them, really made me feel so positive. Had them out today to look at, to remind me to stay on plan & fit comfortably into my holiday swimming cozzie! You'll be in that dress in no time, just like not2b will be with her new jeans!

Peasandsweetcorn · 16/05/2016 20:43

I must come back on this thread more often to be inspired by you lot. I'm in something like week 5 but have has such bad weekends that I can't really claim to have been doing it. I must be better!

yumyumpoppycat · 16/05/2016 22:36

Just adding to the dont go for 600 a day repeatedly comments. On 5:2 people who do two consecutive days are allowed to go up from 500 to 600 so I imagine 800 for 4 days is about right, unless you are having some kind of shakes where all the protein and vitamins you need are covered.

H3l3naGraham · 16/05/2016 22:57

Hello peas - don't worry, many of us are suffering from a bad case of weekenditis - every weekend we get it........it's like a small sickness, fine Monday to Friday lunchtime, downhill then with wine & food fever until Monday morning when we miraculously recover..... Trying to find a cure for it...... Failed so far....

APlaceOnTheCouch · 17/05/2016 07:07

I won't go for 600 for the rest of the week Blush
clare well done on losing 12lbs . You will be in the size 12 in no time.

Not2bObvious · 17/05/2016 09:08

I've been pondering about the weekend disasters and think I'm going to try the 1 treat meal idea - you know like all the celebrity's pretend they do instead of the truth more likely being coffee & fags (I wasn't skinny when I smoked either - there's no hope is there😁)
So, don't laugh yet wait until next Monday when I'm wailing about my debauchery, this weekend normal eating, TDEE. Then I'm out for dinner Saturday night which will be my treat meal. Sunday back to TDEE. Monday return to 800. Now it's out there so let's see😉

mopsytop · 17/05/2016 09:30

hi all, well I am down another 3lbs after my second week (that's 9lbs in total in two weeks). I had a few glasses of wine at the weekend, so I am going to avoid that this week and stick rigidly to the plan and hopefully keep on going down!

Not2bObvious · 17/05/2016 10:52

That's an excellent loss mops, well done. I've lost some of my weekend bloat but some to go so I'll plod on with the 800 days as best I can. Walk done this morning so that's a start
