Hi everyone, I actually was very engrossed in work yesterday so not enough steps and a bit too much chocolate. I was 771 for calories but 60g for carbs.

DS is on a cooking binge again so yesyerday he made a chicken salad brunch with croutons (that I managed to bin surreptitiously). Today it was a mini goats cheese salad.

We're off out later so I am hopeful lots of steps will kick-start my weight loss. I think I have only lost 1lbs so far this week 🙁 but on the plus side I bought a new dress on Fri that is a size smaller and it is very loose so I might have actually dropped 2 dress sizes since I began Shock

H3l3naGraham · 08/05/2016 13:48

That's a very positive NSV couch - I am also finding that my body shape is altering even though I have plateaued somewhat, am impressed that DS is being so diet-supportive with his menus! Smile

Stunning day here, out the garden sipping wine in my floaty summer dress, floppy hat & red lippy! Feeling v relaxed. Had a massage earlier which was very deep & I'm hoping it helps my aches but at this minute I'd say it only added to them. Never mind, the wine's soothing me😜 Had a low'ish carb lunch and nearly 8000 steps done so all in all that's good for a Sunday. Hope you're all enjoying a lovely day, back to the grind of 800 tomorrow. Looking forward to it actually, sometimes it's easier to know you can only eat a certain amount

Hi everyone, meal last night was lovely but very calorific! Plus a few gin and tonics, and a shared bottle of red. All very delicious and not a regular occurance so I've made my peace with it.....today I've definitely felt the effect of having sugar yesterday though, I have been sniffing around the kitchen wanting stuff. Had roast dinner with in laws so just had meat and veg, and declined ice cream and dessert, so not doing too badly but I'm not looking forward to the scales tomorrow! I'm determined to do a strict 5 days at 800 tomorrow to Friday, because I want to get down into new numbers and I'll need 3lb off to do that. 2.5 weeks left to go of my 8 weeks, then will have a week away, then another 8 weeks stint til summer holiday. I could be at target for that if I really work at it so I really need to be good!
Weather beautiful here, sitting out in the garden with baby ds, planning my meals for the week. 'Tis the life eh?

H3l3naGraham · 08/05/2016 17:05

It's all so much better when the sun shines isn't it? The buds are out on the trees, the bees hum & even a butterfly or 2 has been sighted here in E Kent!

DH has been attending to my car-pressie, I have left him to try to manhandle the roof off as he wants it to be a soft-top for the summer, not driven it yet, but can fit in the driver's seat without a struggle (was more worried about arthritic bits than my gut to be honest!)

I have been looking at my food week & can see that beetroot & celeriac are going to feature very heavily along with cannellini beenz and kale, will be interesting but as have most of the week to myself I can cook 'weird'

I have reverted to 'cook's slurps' as I have made a nice chilli before we go off to the charity quiz night and of course there was a little bit of wine left in the bottle.... Was going to be good up until we got to the bar.... Oops....

APlaceOnTheCouch · 08/05/2016 18:00

Mm, I now want some of your chilli H3l3na. I am completely lacking in inspiration for dinner this evening. . . I have lots of chicken to use up but am a bit bored of stir fries and curries.

It is a gorgeous day here. We spent the afternoon at the woodland park where I managed to log over 8000 steps and get a sunburnt nose Grin

H3l3naGraham · 08/05/2016 18:30

Chicken jalfrezi couch! Works a treat with leftover chicken and some peppers!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/05/2016 20:42

Well, I've decided to meet my cravings in the middle and have had some fruit and some dates, as after having lots of sugar last night I've been really 'wanty' again today. Its hard to fight it, I haven't given in to absolute rubbish but the few things I have had have been sweeter than normal. I should really use this as a learning experience, this is what happens when I have sugar! I feel like tomorrow I will need to detox like right at the beginning. Having lots of water tonight and will have to be extra good all week.
For those who are interested, I bought from asda today a pack of date fruit hearts, made by Beloved. They are like little sweets, made of 100% dates. Obviously they have natural sugar, but the five little heart shapes are 105 calories, which I didn't think was too bad for a sweet fix and better than chocolate. They were with the snack pack nuts.
Have done my shopping order, menu planned, and ready to go. I will be eating pre-made meals from my freezer that I've portioned out over the last few weeks mostly this week, so should have a nice easy week with not too much cooking, everything all calorie counted and ready to eat!

H3l3naGraham · 08/05/2016 23:40

newbear - in the MM BSD book, eating 2 dates has the same effect on your blood sugar as eating 2 large punnets of strawberries....... They are NOT a good dried fruit. They play havoc with cravings, blood sugar peaks etc if you like dried fruit & want it, try 2 prunes instead, much easier on your system, diet & well-being.

This diet is seriously not just about calories, like in 'old fashioned diets', it's even more complex than just about carbs.

Itscurtainsforyou · 09/05/2016 09:53

Hello there - has anyone noticed any discrepancies with recipe calorie count and myfitnesspal? Sometimes mfp is way off (over 100 cal) - I've put in a recipe from the bsd website and its doubled it!

H3l3naGraham · 09/05/2016 10:13

Hello curtains. - it could be that the BSD calories are wrong, there has been some talk about this on a past stream as well as on the BSD site, some recipes apparently are total calories I.e for 2 meals, it might be worth looking at on a 3rd site or app to see what that throws up, if it's the similar to MFP then that's probably correct, or vice verse.

H3l3naGraham · 09/05/2016 10:16

PS newbear - I was on the Sirt diet before I swapped to BSD, Sirt uses dates in lots of recipes & I bought them in bulk...... When I found out about the sugar in them I gave them away to my neighbour...... Sadwe have the occasional prune now instead!

MarvellousCake · 09/05/2016 10:17

Yep - I reckon the calorie counts in the book are quite a way off in a number of instances. I think it's partly because they are not always very specific (in terms of quantities of ingredients), and when you're working with such low counts, then even small differences have quite a big impact.
I've taken to using the book to remind me of some different ideas only but then count for myself.
Having said that, I reckon if you ate the meal plans in the book then you'd be doing well on average, even though some of the counts are a bit off.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 09/05/2016 11:19

H3l3na thanks for your suggestion. I had no peppers last night I went shopping today so opted for a variation on chicken tikka instead.

Chilli or fishcakes tonight, I think.

I have 17 days to go till I reach the end of my 8 weeks and I have lost about 11lbs. I am going to try to up my walking this week but does anyone have any other tips? My calories and carbs are usually ok so I feel I must have slipped into some other bad habits without realising.

clare8allthepies · 09/05/2016 13:05

It has not been a good weekend, I knew it would be difficult as it was my eldest's 6th birthday yesterday and lots of party food about the place!

So 2 pounds on over the weekend, 1 pound more than last Monday's weigh in but I'm hoping it's just carb bloat and a few strict days will shift it. Had chicken and salad for lunch and I bought some jerk paste at the supermarket this morning so have some more chicken marinating in the fridge for tonight. Four weeks down, four to go!

Itscurtainsforyou · 09/05/2016 13:16

Thanks - I think I'm going to trust mfp - but that means I've had 400cal for breakfast!! Not sure what I'm going to eat for the rest of the day Shock

mopsytop · 09/05/2016 13:48

I've been using the recipes from the book all week, and after 6 days, the scales says 6lbs loss ... so I don't think they can be that off really? Although it has seemed like it can't only be 800 calories, but one of the reasons I liked the look of this diet was precisely because I could just follow the recipes in the book and not count. I hate counting and it always makes me want to stop dieting. I've been eating breakfast and dinner from the book (going by the calorie counts printed) and eating a pre-made salad for lunch that is less than 250 calories and no obvious carbs (i.e. no pasta or anything but carbs from beans or veg or quinoa or whatever, but low carb) and I am loving that I don't have to count. I have snacked on sugar snap peas or mangetout when I really needed something extra. So far so good, although perhaps further along in the diet when I've lost more I may need to be more careful about calorie counts. Although it feels like if I eat what I ate this week, I must lose weight.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/05/2016 15:09

h3l3na I get what you're saying about dates. Still, the alternative was half a pack of hobnobs and a family sized bar of galaxy, so I still think I made the right choice in the circumstances. For me one square of dark chocolate isn't an option as I'll just eat the lot, but I needed that sweet fix. Been very low carb today and feeling the detox again, not sure its really worth the night out!

NeededANameChangeAnyway · 09/05/2016 16:16

Hello! I fell off the wagon a bit this weekend but managed to avoid a complete disaster! Plain veggie sausages and burgers without rolls have been a saviour (I think anyway!) and I managed to stay the same weight over the weekend.

My veggie book still hadnt arrived so I checked the delivery date on amazon and it seems that the order was cancelled but I hadnt realised Angry so have ordered it from Ebay this time.

Thanks all for the suggestions - making a meal plan tonight which will help!

H3l3naGraham · 09/05/2016 16:23

With that set of choices newbear then you deffo made the right decision!!!! Grin

Sounds like we all had a bit of a weekend, I have managed 8k steps this AM, had a small bowl of porridge with almond milk & berries for breakfast, some brown shrimp for lunch and dinner will be prawn & courgetti - should be celeriac spaghetti but it's too big for me to spiralize.....it really is the size of a head!

Not2bObvious · 09/05/2016 17:13

Well done on the walk H3l, that's a great start to the day. Back to my 16:8 or more like 18:6 today. Very busy so that helped. Very tired today and very sore after a deep massage yesterday, cooking my dinner now. On track for an 800 day

OP posts:
H3l3naGraham · 09/05/2016 18:10

I will be 800 today too not2b perhaps even a bit under, intend on a very early night as well. I am planning on a very quiet week, asides from Thursday night, I have absolutely no reason whatsoever to go off piste. (Keeps thinking about holiday & swimming cozzie...)

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/05/2016 18:19

I should come in under 800 as well, it doesn't happen very often! I'm also going out for a jog/run with my dd, its the first time in a looooong time. I'm really trying for a good week to redeem myself from the sins of the weekend, so that's 800 every day plus some exercise every day.

H3l3naGraham · 09/05/2016 20:07

I have noticed a shift in my appetite recently, BF (before diet) I could happily woolf down a whole packet of M&S chilled prawns, which is what I used for dinner tonight with my courgetti (1 X large-ish) courgette, asides from the creme fraiche, 2 spring onions & 2 halves of sun dried tomato chopped into it, that was my lot. Am totally stuffed, could easily have got away with a half packet, am almost waddling. DH has also noticed his appetite has changed, he says he likes leaving the dinner table without feeling like the Christmas Turkey every night! The biggest change is obviously the absence of carbs & it seems like we are getting used to that, along with feeling leaner after eating.

Looks like it's going to tip down here tomorrow, but still plan on getting out for a walk, like you said new/bear I need to exercise every day too!

NeededANameChangeAnyway · 09/05/2016 21:19

Can anyone help? I have read the book but am still not clear what the daily carb amount should be. I understand the 800 cals per day for 8 weeks plus 45g of protein but can't see a carb value?

Am trying to make a meal plan for the week...
