Morning all. Kettle bell workout done, 10,000 steps done, breakfast done - now just need to get it together and go to work! Up .6 to 11.5.4 from Friday, usual pattern. Friday I'd been up .8 from Wednesday so I'm in a bit of glitch cycle, being a lady what lushes has its drawbacks😉 Moo scootch up on the naughty step, I'll be company for you😁 Lets just be let Stella and get our groove back! Right, off to work, let's have a good day one & all. Watched a program about weight loss (pure drivel, people trying to lose weight to at last tell the object of their desire they liked them) and a girl was wearing a top that said "Excuses don't burn calories", shall we adopt that as our motto? When we're tempted to stray we can repeat that like a mantra😊

Thought, correct me if I am wrong, but if the body thinks it's being starved, doesn't it hold onto fat as long as possible?

I know a longer period without food eg eating 16:8 can help burn more fat (I try this as often as possible) but I do wonder if having dinner then virtually zero again for 24 hours might have a negative effect? There is something about this (comments about someone who was stuck & couldn't lose weight) on the BSD site but it will be hard to find, I fell upon it & other useful nuggets when I surfed the site, falling upon it is the appropriate word here.

Shoot me down in flames if I am spouting gibberish, (we eat 3 meal a day as per plan & do 2 on weekends).

In the BSD book he talks about 'starvation mode' but refutes it on the grounds that it was based on a very outdated experiment. However, if you're just having one meal evey day that's not what he suggests to do in the plan, so maybe it might have some effect? I do think the key is smaller portions regularly, I find skipping breakfast helps but then I do need an earlier brunch time meal rather than lunch. Also, if you're eating the full 800 cals in one meal, it might affect insulin, as (I'm sure I've read this somewhere) the body recognizes a huge meal and releases extra insulin anyway as a response, assuming that extra will be needed if the stomach is so full. So the low amount of carbs you are eating doesn't need all that insulin, but its floating around anyway and can affect insulin resistance. now need to dig out book to confirm that little nugget

MarvellousCake · 26/04/2016 09:54

Week 3 day 4 here and still stuck on 10st eg 5lb lost (for most of the last week). Still feeling good and my appetite has definitely changed.

FWIW I'm eating 3 meals a day, roughly 250, 275, 275. Think I would struggle to eat less regularly.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 26/04/2016 09:57

Not I am in awe that you have done a kettlebell workout and 10,000 steps Shock All I've managed is to get DS to school and eat a healthy low carb and calories cake. I need to up my game Grin

H3l3naGraham · 26/04/2016 09:57

Thank you new/bear there has to be a reason 3 modest meals a day are the plan!

H3l3naGraham · 26/04/2016 10:00

You & me both couch!

mootime · 26/04/2016 10:54

Wow Not, Thats an impressive morning.

Thanks for all the words of wisdom. Maybe I am indeed scuppering my weight loss. I think the problem is that I have been sort of half doing this, half doing 5:2. I need to commit to what my plan is and read up on it.

Realistically I should have lost more than I have, I am averaging 7.5k steps daily over the week and am managing to stay low carb and under 1000cals 4/5 days per week. Even on my bad weeks.
So I need to go back to basics and eating more frequently, be more consistent and also more careful at the weekends.
It will be interesting to see if things change this week with this plan.

H3l3naGraham · 26/04/2016 11:10

Yes, well done not2be, I wish I had your get up + go as opposed to lie down + zizz.... good luck this week moo!

Sputnik · 26/04/2016 11:12

Newaverage you do need to rest and give your muscles time to repair to get the full benefit of something like shred, so there's no shame (as Jillian would probably say) in not doing consecutive days. The Fitness blenders have some workouts recommended for days when you have muscle soreness from your previous workout, like here for example, or you could do one of their stretching workouts.

Mootime if you were eating higher carb for the last few days you probably still have some fluid in there, I wouldn't worry.

I do 16:8 and 2 meals a day, 5 or 6 days a week, suits me fine. I do think we all have to experiment to find our best balance, it's different for everyone.

Not2bObvious · 26/04/2016 11:55

Thanks all, you know yourself though it's all about consistency. And I'm only an intermittent consistent. I was overthinking it as usual when I woke, trying to think of excuses to skip the kettlebell workout but I said sod it and just did it. Next day for kb's is Thursday, if I manage that I'll be pleased.
Now the bad news, I've already eaten my lunch! Flip, this may play havoc with my cals

Surprisingly I'm not too aching today, so providing ds cooperates and has his nap I will probably do it again today then plan a 'rest day' tomorrow. Its day 28 for me today, I'm officially half way through and I'm keen to get weighed tomorrow as I wanted a 2lb loss this week to make it a stone in total! When I started I promised myself a treat at the half way mark, just been to asda and didn't even want anything, I felt like I was just choosing for the sake of it. Something has definitely changed in me!

Not2bObvious · 26/04/2016 12:24

Brilliant the if you can manage it today, once baby cooperates. Nsv on not buying anything from Asda. The weather has saved me from sneaking out to the shops, I still have an egg left I can scramble if i get peckish before home time

So, I've had lunch!! A brocolli carrot pumpkin seed and chickpea number. It was delish (ish) but has none the job in terms of filling me up.
Will have a light supper and see how we go!

OMG

Sputnik · 26/04/2016 16:34

Or am I the last one to know about this?

CodeComplete · 26/04/2016 16:35

So I hit a BMI milestone today Grin I'm now 10st 1lb which gives me a BMI of 24.9 meaning I'm "normal" rather than "overweight". However I now have a dilemma as I had promised myself a treat when I got to this milestone (Papa John's pizza Blush) so.... do I do it or not?? I really want to but at the same time I really want to bust into the 9's and I know that pizza will push that an extra 3-4 days into the future.

Last few days have been pretty good - 857cals yesterday, 935 Sunday, 834 Saturday. Also did weights yesterday and 10.4km on the exercise bike today Halo so my naughty side is telling me I deserve it but my good side is saying noooo don't do it!!

I know from experience it wouldn't push me off the wagon, but I'd be looking at about 2500 cals on pizza alone and all the carb bloat that entails for a few days.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 26/04/2016 16:48

Well done Code - I am watching my little electronic scale edge closer to normal but it's still so far away.

If you decide against the pizza, could you give yourself a different non-edible treat to mark the milestone instead? I think it's good to celebrate victories. Only you will be able to tell if the pizza will feel suitably celebratory. Wine

Sputnik · 26/04/2016 17:01

Great result Code.
I would go for the pizza but probably end up not eating all of it, after doing this for a while I'd struggle to eat 2500cals worth of pizza, would it be the same for you too? Climb straight back on the wagon and just don't weigh for a couple of days.

CodeComplete · 26/04/2016 17:05

I honestly can't think of any other way to celebrate my SV than to stuff my face with pizza Blush maybe that's why I got overweight in the first place! The only thing I'm actively depriving myself of is food, so it's the only thing I can think of as a treat really.

I'm an introvert and love time alone so in the past I would have said I'll have a day off alone to potter around the house as a treat, but that's every day at the moment as I'm between jobs for a few weeks/months (self employed but can afford time off atm) Grin

CodeComplete · 26/04/2016 17:12

Oh Sputnik I did it a few weeks ago and shocked myself!! I was expecting to only manage a couple of slices but ate SIX Blush I just checked MFP from that day and it came in at around 1900 cals so maybe not as bad as the 2500 cals I expected.

Pizza is definitely one of my weaknesses though.

Sputnik · 26/04/2016 17:16

Me too, DH makes it every week. I take weekends "off" so that's ok then. I just ride the carb bloat rollercoaster every week.

yumyumpoppycat · 26/04/2016 17:39

Cut and paste from big chocs OP on the main 5:2 thread: Recent trials with Type 2 diabetics and those at risk of having it used a form of daily fasting - skipping supper. Their conclusions: eating 1-2 meals per day is better than several small meals for losing weight and controlling insulin levels, see Type2Paper

Personally I am not disciplined enough to do that and am a bit of a grazer but I tend to stop eating by 6.00 ish most days. I often have had all my cals by 3.00 and then try to stick to drinks - when that happens I save a portion of everyone else's dinner to have the next day.

I have been back on it the last few days but just losing the weekend weight, really hope I can lose some new weight by the end of this week as have yoyoed the same 4 lbs since our easter hol.

Sputnik the same applies to potatoes, refrigeration causes resistant starch to develop....bring on the potato salad! {Wonders if cold pizza is a health food}
