Sounds like fun round at your houseH3 - I bet you'll have a great weekend.

Obs today is a new day, don't give yourself a hard time. I figure as long as we're changing our patterns in the long run and sticking to it as much as we can, change will come.

Just planning some gardening and exercise here. Really looking forward to getting to the end of week 3 on weds because I'm hoping it'll start getting easier from there on.

Think I need to be a bit stricter with the calories as I don't always use the recipes and am too lazy to use mfp or try and work them out when I make equivalent dishes.
Went on the Hemsley website and cooked lamb chops with salsa verde last night - it was heaven. Made some courgetti and salad to go with it. Am probably eating slightly too large portions becuase the food has all been so delicious so far. Ha ha - the irony, med style 'diet' food is sooo tasty.
I have lost the urge to snack especially in the evenings so that's got to be a good thing surely?

Have a good weekend all.

I have been looking at that website too oola lots of yummy things to cook - I watched something by Jimmy Doherty (Jamie Oliver's mate) on the telly a couple of weeks ago & there was a feature on portion & plate sizes & how much they have grown since the 1950's even since the 70's & 80's - simply massively; was aware they had grown but not by that much!

OK, we are all cutting out ready-meals cos of sugar, nasties etc but I went & bought 2 much smaller dinner plates from the supermarket, this is what DH & I use when we are at home, I pile them full of veggies etc so it looks like a generous portion, reckon this is a way to trick our brains a little!

Have also rid the kitchen of any temptation, all gone, so if I get the munchies there isn't a lot out there to sin on, a bit of carrot then has to suffice, or 6 almonds. Fun here.......

Hi all, I've been lurking here a while as I've been reading MMs book and contemplating doing this. I have a strong family history of diabetes and really would like to avoid it at all costs. I've just completed my first week and weighed myself this morning & have lost a whopping 5lbsSmile so I'm delighted. I've around 2st+ to loose. Hope you don't mind me joining in I'm finding loads of usual tips on this thread but I am struggling to try and vary my food it's mainly eggs & veggies at the moment - any advice would be great. Thanks

H3l3naGraham · 23/04/2016 10:25

Good morning HalloweenQueen - an October birthday perchance?! Well done on your 1st steps!

I am online in between cooking tonight's dinner-for-friends, excuse erratic responses. Are you a vegetarian ? If so do you eat Quorn? Quorn mince works ok, alongside soya mince in the mince recipes in courgette/celeriac spaghetti with bologna see sauce, that sauce can go into a fake lasagna, i.e using thin slices of courgette instead of pasta.

The big portobello mushies are also brilliant with all sorts of stuffings, chopped nuts, minced garlic, herbs, egg, peppers etc I am not veggie but eat a lot of ratatouille, particularly tasty with cheese on top.

Obs2016 · 23/04/2016 10:46

Morning Halloween.

Yes H3, well I can blame it on something. I had a very bad diabetic hypo, fell over in the kitchen, and have gashed my head, have a black eye and bruised ribs.
I just thought fuck it, and ate all the things I wanted to.
Oh dear. Blush

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/04/2016 11:11

Oh no obs that's not good. I used to have hypos on a daily basis when I was pregnant and on insulin and it really is a horrible feeling, like a cloud coming over you and all your strength draining away. I found it affected me all day if I had one, so it's no wonder you went off piste a little bit, hope you feel better today.

H3l3naGraham · 23/04/2016 11:11

Oh my goodness obs it's not about blame, it's always about finding reasons and my goodness, you had ample reason to get comfort food inside yourself, my heart goes out to you, sounds like you need a big hug. Are you sure you are ok now, any lasting damage? I would have eaten a whole cheese & drunk a litre of vino under those circumstances.

Sending you hugsBrewThanks

Not2bObvious · 23/04/2016 11:31

Aww Obs you poor pet - I think a splurge was deserved. But no beating yourself up about, remember no calories are burnt through guilt & recrimination. Mind yourself and rest.
Well you've guessed I'm lolling around hungover and grazing like a wildebeest, it's quite a look I can tell you. Don't care, dh and I had a great evening chatting & drinking. Didn't have any nibbles though but boy am I making up for it today😁 I'll undo
the damage by next Friday easy. Now for a snooze

Thanks everyone!!

Re telling newbies like Halloween what else we eat:

We should make a list of our favourite meals:

1)Courgetti with spag Bol mince has been a revelation for me.
2) baked aubergine with pork mince with cumin, paprika and cinnamon, re Mosley recipes is a winner.
3) Spanish omelette, or veg frittata Mosley recipe.
4)cauliflower, chickpea and baked pumpkin curry.
5)grilled halloumi and courgette salad marinated in chilli aka Mosley recipe.
6)skinny chilli with kidney beans aka Mosley.

So what are your favourites?
I need to extend my meal repertoire, because it's getting boring, so all recommendations appreciated.

H3l3naGraham · 23/04/2016 12:03

Hi obs hope you are rallying, great idea! In process of making salmon & prawn terrine, chicken cacciatore and rhubarb fool for supper with mates tonite, will get online tomorrow with my faves once my inevitable hangover has abated......feel for you not2b but at least it was worth it!Wink

clare8allthepies · 23/04/2016 12:23

Obs hypos are horrible, be kind to yourself Thanks

I decided yesterday that I deserved a drink so bought a lovely bottle of wine and made sure that my calories were low enough that I could have a couple of glasses and stay under 800.

I'm sure you can see where this is going, ended up drinking the whole lot and felt like death this morning. I haven't been hungover like this in a long time! Fortunately DP got up with the children and let me sleep in for a couple of hours then I ate some Greek yogurt and berries whilst eyeing up his sausage bacon and egg sarnies. Feeling a bit better now but so hungry, don't know if I can wait 5 hours for chicken and salad Sad

H3l3naGraham · 23/04/2016 13:43

clare you can always have an egg, even a slice of bacon, might make you feel better?

clare8allthepies · 23/04/2016 15:12

That's just what I did H3l3, I decided that I wouldn't make it without raiding the cupboards so made a late lunch of pancetta, mushroom, tomato and egg. Put my dinner into MFP and just squeaking under the 800.

It's going to be a long 6 more weeks with no wine!

H3l3naGraham · 23/04/2016 16:07

I have transgressed on the wine front clare - but am sure a weekly treat to look forward to of one glass, might act as an incentive, we are all different, this might mean a downward spiral (hope not!) but even on a week when we haven't been 'socialising', one that's dry for 5 days, we will share a bottle on a Sat night, even though I know we shouldn't....others I know have stopped entirely, medal-winners in my book!

I have managed to stop drinking every night (awful to admit it, but I was) and try hard (mostly succeeding) to only drink once or twice a week, once we are off-diet we have said max nights a week with a glass in hand will be 3. Only time will tell that tale, sorry or otherwise.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/04/2016 16:47

I've not really cooked much from the MM book, nothing really sang out to me....my favourite meals have been chicken breast wrapped in parma ham, mushrooms or pepper stuffed with veg and cheese, grilled halloumi on salads, and last night I had a rib eye steak (my favourite cut but very calorific!) And a salad. I've also made some nice soups. Oh and a 'pizza topped' turkey steak (topped with tomato, basil, mozzarella, and ham) which was absolutely gorgeous.
My meals used to be a lot of casserole type, stew type 'bung it all in' meals but I have found them hard to portion and calorie count so for that reason have made the change to more meat and salad type meals. I'm loving most meals as I'm so hungry by dinner time. I don't eat a lot of beans/lentils/pulses which perhaps I need to, and I also don't eat a lot of vegetarian meals so a lot of my calories go on meat. This is a change I'm trying to make but not sure where to start, I need a vegetarian recipe book!

Hello again! Back on the wagon again. I am going to have a good week back on, then an evening off on Thurs (work night out). Then I will be good again!

I'm another shortie - 5'2". I'm currently 10 stone 8 aiming to get into the 9s before I go on holiday. Ultimately I'd like to be 8 stone 10 or so.

Today I have eaten a BabyBel, 2 slices of pepperoni, 2 chicken thighs and some roast aubergine and tomatoes. I have also Shredded.

Elvish · 23/04/2016 21:32

Poor you Obs, hope you feel better soon.

keepon, I hate that feeling of nothing to wear, would you end up reaching for the wine or snacks if you stayed in? Actually, just realised what time it it, you've probably made a decision by now!

We had friends round for dinner with their kids and the DHs have now gone to the pub. Had a good meal sausages, mash and chips for everyone else, big pile of veg and I had roasted butternut squash and celeriac which was quite satisfying. My lovely friend said she'd bring desert and as she know I'm dieting just brought a mountain of fruit so I didn't have to miss out or cheat.

But now I'm on my own and the munchies are getting to me. Not at all hungry but I've come up to watch TV in bed and brought half a bottle of wine and an Easter egg. Going to try to find something on Tv to distract me, rom com or something not taxing to my brain. Going to put the chocolate in my drawer so I can't see it and move my (still empty) wine glass out of reach. I can be strong....probably Hmm

MarvellousCake · 24/04/2016 08:57

So apparently I have GROWN. As in TALLER. I'm not sure how or when this happened, or how it's even possible. DH was measuring the kids this morning and measured me as well, and it turns out I am 5'3" and not 5'2" as I always knew myself to be....
Those of you shorties like me will realise how momentous this is, and apart from everything else it means that even though I am 'stuck' on 10st0 I am now officially in the healthy BMI range instead of having 3lb to go...

Anyway, yes, been pretty good here - had a TDEE day yesterday (wine and fruit salad pushed me over 800) but otherwise have been around 780-880 every day. End of week two stuck on 10st, having lost 5lb altogether, but I'm feeling very healthy and it's starting to show, which is not bad for two weeks effort.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/04/2016 09:16

Marvelous, marvelous.....reminds me of a well used joke of my rather portly df. "I'm 6'5 with the legs of a dwarf"
To be honest I can't remember having my height measured ever, I've just always 'known' myself to be 5'7. People tend to just ask don't they, rather than get the tape out and check.
I've been a bit over this week, and looking back over my averages I can see that the majority of days I'm coming in at 1000, which seems to be working so far but I imagine won't cut it for much longer as my body gets used to it. I had a firm talking to myself last night, reminded myself that I'm doing this properly this time and promised myself that I will do the 8 weeks at 800. I suppose aiming for 800 is meaning that I'm keeping to 1000, but perhaps I need to aim for 600 to hit 800? I can always find something for 200cal at the end of the day to make it up if by some miracle I came in under.....
My biggest challenge yesterday came in the form of a half crushed piece of children's birthday cake from a party bag...dd doesn't like cake, so when I picked her up I could smell the sugar radiating around the car! I told her in no uncertain terms that the cake was not to enter the house it was to go straight in the outside bin. However, I awakened my spidy-senses for sugar and I spent all evening grumpy, and crotchety, and ended up eating a chunk of crusty bread (300 cals!) And sending my carbs total sky rocketing. I find I am learning a lot about my eating habits doing this, and I can't believe a piece of manky cake nearly broke me when there is a cupboard full of cadbury's easter eggs In the kitchen which I've not touched or been tempted by!

Not2bObvious · 24/04/2016 11:11

Morning all. How fantastic to be an inch taller marvellous, that's great that it puts you in the healthy bmi range. I had such a shocking day yesterday, but managed to at least get a decent walk in after I woke from afternoon coma. Got up today and did a 1.5 hour walk plus a JM kettlebell workout. Had a lovely breakfast & am now relaxing for an hour. It's lovely & sunny here, trying to think of somewhere to bring the kids for a walk where they won't cop that we're sneaking exercise in. Lazy little divils they are unless there's something in it for them like their mother

Today is my write off day - the morning after the night before.....I have cleared up & made brekkie for house guests. Didn't get to bed until 4.30..... Am to old for this, so is DH, who is still studying the insides of his eyelids, am now about to flop on sofa & watch the Marathon in admiration of those who can do this for good causes, I always cry.

H3l3naGraham · 24/04/2016 13:30

marvellous when DH surfaces I am going to get him to measure me, have always thought I was 5ft 4ins, but doubt an extra inch will give me a healthy BMI unfortunately!

MarvellousCake · 24/04/2016 13:46

Fingers crossed H3. I cry at the marathon too.

H3l3naGraham · 24/04/2016 14:46

Water, must drink water........

Anyone else see the fantastic & mostly on-diet soup recipes in the Times mag yesterday, totally delish, will be eating last night's leftovers tonite, but will be trying the celeriac, Apple & sage one tomorrow, Tues will be spiced kale with cashew cream & kale crisps!
