Hi YumYum - this lady (I understand) has lost a lot of weight, so when my girlfriend & I were discussing FF against total calories & carbs the other day, she sent me the posting. In the BSD book, there are 3 'instant soup' recipes, miso & baby veg = 70 calories, pho with chicken & spinach = 130 calories & consommé with celeriac & spring onions, 40 calories, so if we did a stock based vegetable, soup, say spring onions, sliced mange-tout and some spinach, it could come in at 60 calories, but suspect a teaspoon of tahini & peanut butter with a drizzle of olive oil would take it to a bit more.

I reckon I can make a decent soup with a bit of onion, garlic stock & some 'above the ground' veggies for 100 calories, including olive oil for cooking it up in.

For me, the message was to take on board some fat, it is so hard after all the years of being told it was bad for us, I am now trying hard to embrace it. As I love cheese this shouldn't be a big issue, just need to be careful on quantities!

yumyumpoppycat · 12/04/2016 11:26

Thanks H those soups sound delicious. I need to follow more of the recipes.

Thenew that is really good that you are sleeping so well and feeling good!!

I did my workout and now contemplating cutting the grass!

H3l3naGraham · 12/04/2016 12:09

Marvellous if I could do squats & crunches then I wouldn't be so worried about my step count, you sound very fit! Smile

MarvellousCake · 12/04/2016 12:26

Ha ha - not really very fit. I'm just aware that I spend a large part of the day sitting in front of the computer, so even though I do move a bit here and there, I'm really aware that I could do better.

Obs2016 · 12/04/2016 12:40

I like the found of that soup H3. I can't drink those miso ones, they are too artificial and processed. But this sounds good.

H3l3naGraham · 12/04/2016 13:04

not2B - DH reckons I am the Soup Queen of Kent, better that than being the soup dragon.....

Blitz with stock, onion & garlic the following favourites.....

Cauli, good pinch of cumin,

Celery, with apple,

Celery & parsley

Spinach and pea

I could go on.......Wink

LittleWoofDoesntDog · 12/04/2016 15:09

I would like to de-lurk and join you if that's ok! I have been reading this thread and the previous one for a while now, and decided to start the BSD on Wednesday last week; I tend to weigh once a week so haven't noticed any change yet - daily weighing would set me back as if I saw an increase, I would be tempted to self sabotage. Not sure if we are doing measurements, but at the moment I am 10 stone 6lb, have 34in hips & 28in waist. My main problem is that I look like a bell in that I have a MASSIVE arse and thighs, and I am addicted to carbs and find it really hard to give them up! So far I have found the easiest way to do this for me is to fast all day and then have a meal with no carbs about 7 or 8pm.

mootime · 12/04/2016 16:35

Thanks everyone! Had a reasonable day again so far. Had the other half of yesterday's salad for lunch. I'm probably a bit over in terms of carbs as I've been on a tea and coffee drip to cope with my 2hrs of sleep last night.... What's good though is that I would usually scoff a load of chocolate to keep me going.
Might do courgetti and meatballs this eve. (Need to MFP!)

H3 that recipe for soup sounds good, what else is in it?

mootime · 12/04/2016 16:36

Welcome Littlewolf.
I'm beyond Envy at your 28in waist!!

Not2bObvious · 12/04/2016 17:29

Food has been ok today so far, around 1000 cals but I'm still quite peckish. But I think I need to ride it out, mind hunger not real hunger I reckon - if I'm still hungry by 7, I'll have some cheese & walnut for around 150 cals.
Welcome little - are you planning on fasting until the evening meal every day? Judging by your weight & measurements, you don't (well to me anyway)sound like you have an awful lot to lose - even people doing 5:2 only do 2 days fasting all day & eating in the evening. The idea with this, in my head, is its a quick weight loss plan using a way of eating you can do going forward but obviously not to the same degree - have you read the book? And the reason I'm asking all the questions is how long you want to do this for and can you see the longer term view when you've completed the 4 or 8 weeks? The carb side of things will pass quite quickly I promise. I'm probably a bit biased/ worried as I did that kind of fasting on 5:2 and it made me miserable. Being able to eat 3 meals, although small is soo much nicer. But that's just me and no offence meant - hate being preachy, sorry if it comes across like thatFlowers

I almost Blush to be back. I joined about alonth ago and lost 7lbs very quickly. I then had a bad cold and fell off the wagon and have put 4lbs back on. I have to honest, I find it really tough but know I need to get back to it as it gets easier. I am 13.1 Shock and need to.lose at least 3 stone. I have eaten 800 cals so far and are yet to have dinner. However, I have PMT and could eat my own arm.

I had Scrambelled egg for breakfast, avocado and salad for lunch and then far too many nuts and quorn mini sausages. Not perfect but a start.

What happens after the 8 weeks is up. I know I won't be done by then.

yumyumpoppycat · 12/04/2016 19:22

Welcome back scout defo don't be embarrassed, I dont think anyone here has been 100% perfect. your food today sounds yum and v impressed that you have made a start with totm on its way, that causes me major munchies.

Well done on trying to resist mind hunger this eve not2be, sometimes that's harder to ignore than genuine hunger.

Welcome little woof! Would you be able to split your meal into a late afternoon snack and then dinner at 7.00 and gradually even out the cal split and increase time gap a little? A week of just 1 low carb meal sounds v hardcore, although apparently that's how roman soldiers used to eat!

clare8allthepies · 12/04/2016 19:44

Thanks to uncooperative children I haven't got round to dinner yet. Any favourite meals involving chicken breast seeing as I bought 9 at morrisons this afternoon!

Was thinking of maybe making a sauce using chopped tomatoes and having it with courgette spaghetti but don't know if chopped tomatoes are too carby or not.

Peasandsweetcorn · 12/04/2016 21:35

Today was supposed to be about preparing for tomorrow but eating sensibly but not as cleanly as I will be for the coming weeks but then I had macaroni cheese for lunch & have had the remains of a box of chocolates & some chocolate fingers for tea.
My plan for tomorrow is eggs & spinach for brunch and either chicken or fish with loads of veggies for tea.

Not2bObvious · 12/04/2016 22:03

Oh well peas, in a way you've cleaned your environment 😁
Must be in the air, I had a packet of crisps, all my fault allowing them back in the house or should I be honest & say when I sent dh to buy them on Sunday
Anywho whatever whatever - day done, under tdee, over 14,000 steps, loads of water drunk. Tomorrow I'll aim to do better. Trick is just say no, simple eh? As if! But I think we're all doing much better on this than other diets, I think the main thing is if you can follow it to the letter of the law it breaks the way you crave certain foods. Or it would if we let it, I'm my own worst enemy some days. Hoping those days reduce in number though

My eyes need testing, I seem to either have sight issues or brain malfunction as keep getting obs and not2b muddled.... very, very, sorry........ : (

moo which soup recipe please - most involve onion + garlic, lightly fried in olive oil, a jug of vegetable stock, XYZ ingredients + a hand blender at variable speeds (some I semi blend others fully) ? The black Bean, corainder + chilli one from the Mail on Sun (G Paltrow's) was delish + sooo easy. Happy to share any recipes

Not2bObvious · 13/04/2016 06:52

Haha H3l, I was a tad confused as not a soup fan but then was thinking maybe I had asked?
So I'm up 1.4 from last Wednesday's weigh in, I was 11.3.6 now 11.5 (I was 11.2 last Friday & 11.6.4 on Monday😩) So my Thursday-Sunday drink & food'fest caught up with me and I got what was coming to me. A lesson learned, the hard way! I can't revert to piggy'knickers every weekend or bye bye weightloss. Hardly groundbreaking news but it's something that's always been a problem. Only the last few weeks I'd managed to stay within normally boundaries. Off for a walk before work, got to shift this and more, only 2 weeks left!

oolaroola · 13/04/2016 07:40

Morning Campers!
Just starting week 2 today - can't believe the first week went so fast. Was a bit of a rollercoaster but am sticking with it. 6lbs down so really pleased!
I imagine things will slow down now though so got to prepare for that.

Didn't manage 10,000 yesterday but did manage to do the exercises and some pilates.
Am feeling a bit ill today with a sore throat etc so am gonna take it easy today, maybe make some soup....The sun is shining and the birds are singing!

H3l3naGraham · 13/04/2016 08:19

I seem to be stuck, have shifted the 1lb I put on over the weekend but have been at 19/20lbs weight-loss for weeks........need to up steps, shift lazy carcass......wish Aqua-aerobics classes would start.

Frustrating as DH on same diet & food naughtiness (poss more on that front, as he goes out more with his work functions) is losing 2lbs a week......grrrrrrrrr

Fave chicken recipes... Usually with some form of ratatouille or tomato & basil, mushroom & chives with a little Parmesan - have even experimented with a cheese sauce made with gram flour, not bad to be truthful! chicken with cauli-cheese sauce also good. Dr M uses cornflour in some recipes so I have thickened sauces with that too. Small amount only.

Not2bObvious · 13/04/2016 08:29

Pre-work walk down, around 9500 steps in the bag. Need to prep my yog/berries/almonds for a late breakfast. I want to leave breakfast later as I think it sets me up better.
Do you have any do's to go to H3l? Cause iirc last couple of weeks there were lots of outings, maybe if you don't you'll see a better loss next week?
Well done oola, that's a great kick off, enjoy the feeling and feel better soonFlowers

yumyumpoppycat · 13/04/2016 08:30

H1 DP is now at the stage where he is getting worried because he is still losing weight even though not on a diet as such. Think its just a reflection of how much crap and wine he was having beofre - I always thought his actual meals were quite small.

well done oola!! Enjoy the sunshine Smile I am quite looking forward to hanging out the washing am a weirdo

H3l3naGraham · 13/04/2016 08:32

claire8 - tinned toms are fine, not too carbs, they feature in many recipes in the book, you are safe using them.

agteacht · 13/04/2016 08:45

Morning everyone

Great loss oola!

Help needed...
I am starting to feel physically ill when I think of eating salad and / or sugar snaps!

Think I've overdosed on both...
My husband might kill me if either appear again tonight...

What could I have with some chicken as a carb accompaniment substitute?

Without potatoes, pasta and rice I am becoming unstuck...

Thanks all Flowers

H3l3naGraham · 13/04/2016 09:27

Thank you not2b you are probably right, you usually are!Smile

agteacht - green or runner beans, some cannellini beans or butter beans mashed with some chives and a little olive oil or lightly stir-fried red & yellow peppers with some garlic & onion perhaps would work as a substitute?

yumyumpoppycat · 13/04/2016 09:41

agt easy options are purple sprouting broccoli or asparagus, or maybe roast them with some veg, jersualem artichokes if you can find them, are amazing roasted in small cubes, beetroot, fennel, courgette, butternut squash, red onion all roast pretty well, bit carby depends how strict you are being. You could try and look for some sort of creamy mushroom recipe, or a celeriac remoulade and have small prtions with baby leaves. Tesco etc sells cauliflower rice, cougette noodles etc.

You could think about an organic box scheme. I am getting 2 small boxes a week from abel and cole (keen cook and speedy ved) www.abelandcole.co.uk/super-speedy-veg-box smaller boxes seem to be better if you want a variety. Each suggested box item has a long list of alternatives you can swap for and its a great way to get a variety of veg.
