I think apart from Greek yogurt & milk in my coffee and wine, vodka, cachaca, Kahlua I was pretty much doing the post holiday detox til Kahlua/wine induced hangover from hell sent me screaming for carbs😁 Oh yeah and it was probably midlife detox too if age comes into it😉
We'll be alright, won't lose weight beating ourselves up! Tomorrow's another day and we'll make it better (oh sweet lord make it better!)

Sputnik · 11/04/2016 21:08

You'll be fine Not2b!
I think the odd planned detour is less damaging psychologically than just veering off the tracks, I know I'm not going to manage 800 cals 7 days a week so I don't feel I've failed after a weekend of less than perfection, it's just part of the plan!
It's ok to take a break, regroup and get back on it.

AutumnLeaves100 · 11/04/2016 22:19

Not I agree with Sputnik and I think sticking with TDEE for the rest of the week is a good plan, then you'll be back on track and the 800 will feel easier.
I weighed this morning, (as I too feel that daily weighing helps keep my mind on my goal, hence why I stopped weighing daily when I was putting on my lost SW weight) and I'd put ON 1/2lb, but I've stuck to 800 cals and low carb, low sugar. I was -am- gutted. I know it was only the start of day 4, but I am disappointed. I was back at work today after the 2 weeks Easter Hols and my trousers felt uncomfortably tight. I have eaten as planned today and I'm not hungry but I am under the calories at 584, 23g carbs, 36g fat, 41g protein, 14g sugar.

Is this ok, or too low? Thanks in advance

yumyumpoppycat · 11/04/2016 22:46

Autumn could it be totm, too much salt, not drinking enough water, constipation?

My dc have recently informed me I am middle aged so midlife detox for me too!

AutumnLeaves100 · 11/04/2016 23:40

Umm don't think it's any of those yum I'm just going to ride it out, it's made me more determined. Ah, you've got me thinking now, I wonder if it's lack of exercise? I need a new battery for my pedometer and I know I've been under the 10,000 steps. I must try harder tomorrow.

agteacht · 11/04/2016 23:51

Thanks for the advice re: coffee, H3l.
I'll keep going for now but keep an eye on it.

Not2b, keep at it, your encouragement is great for everyone else so hopefully we can all help you too. It's just a temprary blip, I know it!

Thenewbear - are you also at end of week 2? We also share the same birth-year by the looks of it? How are you finding it? I'm doing okay at sticking to 800 on Sunday's to Thursday's but then it goes wrong Thursday eve to Saturday. However still seeing loss though not huge - so not the end of the world. I haven't yet got my head around managing carbs - I'm just managing to calories at the moment. But once I get better at this I'll focus more on carbs. Although I'd like to lose more quickly I know from the past that I just need to take it one step at a time and try not to be too clever or I'll get myself tied up in knots... simple does! ;)

Well we will see what tomorrow's weigh in brings, and hoping for 2lb loss.

Night everyone Flowers

Not2bObvious · 12/04/2016 06:17

Thanks all for the encouragement, scales shifting down this morning. Still a ways to go before weekend behaviour leaves..ahem...the building but that's ok. Crime & punishment folks, that's what we're looking at.
Autumn at this stage that half pound you're seeing is very likely crimes for a week/10 days ago. Ignore it completely. By day 7/8 of bsd it should be gone, hopefully taking a couple of its pals with it. Do stick to 800, under 600 is proper 5:2 numbers and that's too strict for every day. The beauty, imho, is that 800 is really an ok amount once you fill it with the right foods. And what really really turned my losses around was making sure I walked as close to 10,000 a day and 2-3 litres of water. Those 2 things are a fantastic foundation, cause the water helps with the appetite (and you walk to the loo a lot 😁) and the walking just seems to improve your mindset. Fresh air, bit of music or in my case audio book - feel refreshed & alive!
Lecture over. As you were 😘

Obs2016 · 12/04/2016 07:09

Yes Autumn, don't worry about that 1/2 a pound!

Not doing so well here. Not sure why. I feel very bloated and like I'm carrying a huge weight/ padded seat on my bottom. Very odd. Maybe I will re- read the book and try to focus more.
I don't do many steps.

AutumnLeaves100 · 12/04/2016 07:26

Thanks for the advice Not, and certainly no lecture, much sound advice and gratefully received. I am down 2lbs so I am thrilled. My aim was 800 Cal's, but I didn't log until late and then didn't need more to eat. I am feeling the downside of less calories this morning though, I feel weak and a bit shaky, so I'll have a much earlier breakfast than my usual 10/11am otherwise I know I'll struggle to concentrate at work. Thanks again for all the fantastic advice and support

agteacht · 12/04/2016 08:03

Morning all

Great advice above, those blips upwards tend to disappear after a day or two.

Registering an end of week 2 loss this morning of 4.5lbs, making a total of 6.75lbs Shock

Probably a fairer view is an average of 3ish per week given my gain at the end of the first week and totm.

Well I will just trust the numbers for now given they are positive and hope the scales aren't playing tricks on me!!

Planning another positive few days now before the weekend shenanigans hit!! And water... Lots of that today

Wishing everyone a great day Star

mootime · 12/04/2016 08:15

Hi all. Some great losses this morning!
After a truly shocking day at work I managed to barely eat a thing yesterday. I jumped on the scales this morning (official weigh in day is not until tomorrow and I'm down 4lb!! So I'm 167!! Yay! This puts me under 12 stone for the first time in about a year!

Not2bObvious · 12/04/2016 09:06

Great losses this morning ladies! Isn't it lovely to be the other side of a stone Moo, bask in it😉 I did an hour walk before breakfast & feel heaps better than I have in the last few days. I'm still no closer to restarting my weight sessions (do 30-40 mins fitnessblender twice a week) but I'll try get back to that later this week. Bacon, sausage, black pudding & egg mayo for brekkie - 340 cals. As I said I'm not aiming for 800 the next few days, just aiming to get over the carb'crazy'ness first, the rest will follow

yumyumpoppycat · 12/04/2016 09:26

Good plan not2be and good work on walk - sounds really lush to for a walk before breakfast. I am feeling weird today, bit restless and fed up but about to do a workout - inspired from reading your post not to put it off despite being very tempted to!

Mootime what was happening at work yet - hope you're ok Flowers v v exciting to move down a stone though Star

TheWoodenSpoonOfMischief · 12/04/2016 09:37

Morning everyone

Just checking in to put my intentions in writing as it helps.

I did well yesterday so more of the same today.
Nothing to eat til midday then lunch, snack and dinner.

As its a birthday day in our house, there will be a tiny sliver of cake for me (dammit I worked hard baking that cake!). I don't have a sweet tooth really so I can stick to just eating a tiny bit.
Dinner is homemade burgers so I'll have mine without the bread and with salad.

I love walking too and really feel that it puts me in a good head space to get fresh air and do a long walk.

Hope everyone has a good day!

TheWoodenSpoonOfMischief · 12/04/2016 09:39

And well done Moo! That's a fab loss. You must be thrilled Smile

MarvellousCake · 12/04/2016 09:42

Hello - Completed day 3 yesterday.

Day 1-2: Oh my God - v difficult! I was hungry all the time, not to mention crabby, and headachey (though I had headaches for a few days before so not sure if related or not). Tried to be good and snacked on small pieces of cheese mid-afternoon. Kept to around 800-900 though.

Day 3: Feel like I came out of the other side. Hungry at the appropriate times but not starving. Had a small blip when a friend came round with a small (v small) piece of cake, but hopped right back on board.

At the start of day 1 I had a measurement of 10st5 (lower than expected but I'd already been thinking about what I eat for a week or so), and this morning measured 10st2 so 3lb in the first 3 days.

And I know this is probably psychological, but I swear my clothes are fitting better today - and food tastes SO GOOD. I will be good today, but tomorrow I have a formal meal to attend, so that might be a struggle.

MarvellousCake · 12/04/2016 09:46

In terms of exercise I know I can't fit 10,000 steps into most of my days, but I do cycle a few miles a day, and I will try and walk more at the weekend and evenings when I can. And the squats, crunches etc can be done any time so that should be easy.

ExConstance · 12/04/2016 10:07

Good morning all!
3 weeks one day now and 11lb down. Apart from one very bad day when I ate a sandwich and some cereal I've stuck to it, I'm feeling very well on this diet, though I do get tired after lunch, maybe my body is still expecting something a bit more than salad and protein. I now have three pairs of jeans that fit, as opposed to only being able to wear one of them, and feeling very uncomfortable indeed.

H3l3naGraham · 12/04/2016 10:07

Well done Moo it's a fabulous feeling, isn't it! Thanks

Lots of comments on full fat & calories.

I totally agree with Not2b - keep your calories as close to 800 as possible, less than that will cause you issues, with this diet, less is not more if you see what I mean!! Also water & steps do make a difference, my pedometer arrived this morning, suspect it might tell a rather sorry tale....

With Full-Fat, the BSD site is adamant about using FF products, especially yoghurt. I posted before on this (lost in mists of time..) the 'natural' level of fat in yoghurt is between 5-6%, anything with less fat or zero fat has had sugar put in to bulk it up. BSD recommend full fat Greek and to be honest it does make you feel fuller.

I have a mate who is on the BSD forums and she sent me a posting about eating fatty foods (talking cheese, bits of avocado here not fish & chips!!) when you feel the mad munchies/giddy etc from a lady who has been one of the long term BSDers, who has lost loads of weight, she was advising someone who was struggling, let me try & find it for everyone. Cutting & pasting on an iPad is not one of my favourite pastimes.

Obs2016 · 12/04/2016 10:14

Well done Moo on breaking that stone barrier. It feels really good. Well done.

yumyumpoppycat · 12/04/2016 10:19

fantastic about jeans and 11lbs excon!

Defo interested to read the post H Flowers

H3l3naGraham · 12/04/2016 10:33

Here we are this is a copy of a posting from the BSD site my mate sent me, hope it helps!:
The other important thing is to eat full fat dairy and fat in general, or you will be hungry. So butter, cream, FF Greek yogurt, olive oil are all good. I think this is the most difficult part of the diet to grasp because of decades of low fat propaganda- and we can all see that low fat hasn't worked but it's hard to let go of. In the end we see what works, which is Eat Fat!
I go for 35-50 grams a day. - I use MyFitnessPal to monitor carbs and fat- any hunger, I eat some fat! eg some avocado with full fat mayonnaise. Or home made soup with plenty of olive oil and/ or peanut butter and tahini in it- which is what I had today. It had olive oil, peanut butter, and tahini in it! And some low carb veg of course. 3 hours later I'm still not hungry despite walking 5000 steps and doing some gardening. It's about 50-60 cals per bowl, minimum carbs.
Starting the diet is a very steep learning curve for most of us- it took me weeks to really grasp how closely I need to monitor my carbs, I wasn't losing much and didn't twig why for ages. I m still a slow loser at carbs 20 - 30g a day, I think that's just how my body is.

yumyumpoppycat · 12/04/2016 10:43

It is interesting and actually I do think eating fat can help with weight loss based on my experience of eating everyone's roasted chicken drumstick crispy skins the other day Blush no one likes them except me - what is wrong with my family! However, there is surely no way a bowl of soup could have olive oil, peanut butter and tahini in and work out at 60 cals is there?

yumyumpoppycat · 12/04/2016 10:47

sorry if i am being negative there Blush message really shows it is worth allowing some cals for fat as it helps with staying full and losing weight, rather than being a waste of calories like we have been taught.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/04/2016 10:56

Hi everyone, this thread is so informative! I feel like I need to read and reread before it sticks.....
It's day 14 for me, I weighed this morning and I've lost 9lb so far which I am thrilled about. I've downloaded a calorie tracker now and have just spent an hour inputting some recipes I plan to use for the week ahead and today's meals. It's not mfp but it seems similar from what I can remember. Someone up thread mentioned about counting carbs as well as calories so I am just trying to get my head round this, and also judging what a reasonable portion of something is when meal planning in advance, so I'm recording things such as what a spoonful of lentils weighs, what a small piece of chicken weighs etc, so I can judge. I have to plan this way because with dcs coming out of my ears sometimes I don't get peace at cooking time to plan/count so i need to do it earlier in the day. Bought some seed mixtures and pistashio nuts yesterday which I'm looking forward to trying as well, but got totally overwhelmed in the natural yoghurt section reading cals vs protein vs total carbs and in the end went for my usual skyr natural. Taking on board the advice about full fat dairy though, so bought a small blue top milk for my one coffee a day.
autumn I'm finding it OK, but its the old diet mentality that I'm struggling with, as I've done slimming world for so long. I feel great though, and as a chronic insomniac i can honestly say I haven't slept so well in years as I have these 2 weeks. I've been at the mercy of my hormones this week, but managed to resist sugar, so I'm hoping next month i might not have the same degree of cravings.
Hope everyone has a great day, thanks all for your excellent words of wisdom !
