Hello Oola - my weight loss is steady, but not earth-shattering & you will get odd days when nothing shifts, then a day for no reason when it goes back on, then suddenly WOOSH you are 3lbs down.....

On that note, when I watched the last series of Trust Me I'm a Doc - this nugget came out about weight loss........ Attention ladies, it is important.......

One of his Docs said this, when they look at weight loss:

Weigh yourself every morning at the same time for a week

Take your daily weight eg 9st 6lbs on Monday, 9st 5lbs on Tues, 9st 3 on Wed ( I wish...) etc

Add all 7 days weights together & then divide the total by 7

This gives you your average weight for the week

Deduct it from the previous week & you get your trend

This is apparently more reliable than torturing yourself every day & gives a better indication, taking into account daily fluctuations etc

Right. Back to the laundry, vacuuming etc after a weekend of hedonism.....

TheWoodenSpoonOfMischief · 11/04/2016 09:29

Hi everyone.

Ok here goes again...!
I tried during the half term break but it was a bit hit and miss.

Now everyone's back to their routine, it's easier.

So, two meals a day for me. Lunch at 12 and dinner. One mid afternoon snack.

I'm going to carry on with my yoga and walking or exercise DVD if I don't get a good walk in.

I'm going to have a look at those recipes again that were posted much earlier and plan my meals for the week.

mootime · 11/04/2016 09:39

Wooden - I'm hoping that everyone being back in their routine will help me too.

Re the daily weighing, the app Happy Scale does that for you too. I find more or less daily weighing makes me generally calmer. And also if I suddenly jump up, it makes me really good the next day.

When I stopped daily weighing, I put all the weight if lost last year on 5:2 back on....

Walked to work this morning and found a cafe that sells almond milk lattes which means that the temptation of a big milky coffee can be taken away!

Plan today is to stick with tea / coffee / water until a light supper to basically rid myself of the weekends excesses!

H3l3naGraham · 11/04/2016 10:06

Have put on 1lb after the weekend's total blow-out, am stunned it's not more.

Revised food for day is:

Youghurt & berries for breakfast, with seed sprinkle, black bean & coriander soup for lunch courtesy of Gwyneth Paltrow's recipe, Dr M's gingered pork for dinner.

That will bring us in at 800.

I understand the need to weigh daily, it's about control, isn't it?

KeepOn - that's still a reduction, routines will reinstate themselves this week!

mootime · 11/04/2016 11:50

H3. That sounds really good. I simply don't seem to be able to get that much food into my 800cals!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 11/04/2016 12:20

My weekend has been a total write-off too. We had guests staying and I felt weird about dieting - it would be so public! I don't want to have to explain to my PIL that I'm dieting in advance of a family holiday with them - it's just inviting them to look critically at my body on holiday! They leave tomorrow morning, and I'm going out for lunch tomorrow - will be back on it on Wed!

I have been thinking a lot about how I fared for the first 5 days - 5 days of rigid 800 cals, v low carb intake, lots of water and a total loss of 0.75lbs, plus issues with constipation. I think the issue for me is probably exercise. I am going to focus really hard on Shredding 4 or 5 times a week - I downloaded a step counter and I see that hitting 10000 steps is going to be hard for me to achieve. It's easier for me to do 20 mins hard exercise than it is to walk for an hour a day!

H3l3naGraham · 11/04/2016 13:28

Hi 2extra - I don't like announcing I am on a diet either, too much pressure....too many questions, too many people watching every thing you raise to your lips... Best to just get on with it like you are doing & wait for the positive comments come summer!

Moo - I more or less use the diet plan in the book as a guide, but I do swap around, but it's mostly from the menu plan with swapsies when I get bored, I find this so much easier than my disastrous attempts at 5:2 & I am not spending hours making green slime like when I started on Sirt.

When I do swapsies I don't get worried if it's 200 calories over or under, I am more concerned with carbs (particularly when I have a weekend like the last one) so will be very rigid with substitutions this week.

Like Not2b says 800-1,000 does shift it, especially if you watch the carbs.

Most of the recipes I have which I use have carbs & sugars specified, for dinner we now live on a diet of chicken/turkey/pork fillet/salmon/cod/whatever either grilled or pan-fried in a little olive oil with small amounts of some spice paste like Harissa or pesto, or peanut butter with chilli flakes smeared on top... With steamed veggies on the side. Lunch is soup or salad.

Weekend treats (not allowed, but.......) are a small slice of heavy duty rye bread with breakfast & a bottle of wine (shared these days) unless we go out, then it's more of a free-for-all, I am more or less ok on food when we go out, it's the wine that does for me....carb & sugar rich Blush

clare8allthepies · 11/04/2016 13:33

Hello! I'm starting today, I weighed in this morning at 12 stone 1.5 pounds which is the heaviest I've ever been. I'm only 5 foot 2 with a small frame so I really need to lose about 3 stones, all the weight is round my middle as well which I know is so bad for me.

Just had some cauliflower couscous with onion and peas which only came to 169 calories on mfp so plenty left for dinner. Going on holiday in nearly 8 weeks so in an ideal world I would stick to it right up until then....although I am going to be moving house somewhere in the middle!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/04/2016 13:56

Hi everyone, I'm on my 13th day sugar free today. My weight has maintained over the weekend as i ate more cals than I should really, but I've not gained any back so I'm pleased and I've still stuck to the Mediterranean style eating. I've planned a few days meals now and just waiting for ds to wake up so I can go to supermarket. Can I ask for your tips please when you're faced with totm carb cravings- should I get something like full fat yoghurt? I'm a bit wary of nuts because i find that i eat so many its a lot of calories. Also, have any of you used the skyr Icelandic yoghurt? Its delicious but not full fat, and does say reduced sugar/high protein....I was wondering if that's reduced 'added sugar' or reduced lactose? I'm taking a previous posts advice e and sipping green tea during the day as well.

mootime · 11/04/2016 14:08

So I broke after a v stressful work situation and have had some lunch. Chicken with salad and a dollop of hummus. I bought it from the local takeaway place but I've only eaten half and refused the flatbread.
All is not lost and its stopped me shaking!!

H3l3naGraham · 11/04/2016 14:16

I work from home as a consultant, not getting any done today as DH has just pointed out.... Spring is in the air & I cannot concentrate

Claire8 - you are giving yourself a good amount of time to shift those curves, there will be challenges & you will learn a lot about yourself in the process. Good luck!

NewBear - the long-term BSDers swear by full-fat everything, it is just so hard after years of being told low-fat, to embrace a total turn-around. Full-fat yoghurt is good, Greek is the recommended one, I use Total-Fage - if you need more fat, use one of those Babybel little round cheeses, (eat it slowly, don't ram it all into one mouthful), these help me as do nuts, but if you have decided that nuts are no-go, then I'd do cheese.

A weeny amount of hummus & some courgette sticks also works (have chickpeas multiplying in cupboards it seems) & I also like a Miso soup - but it isn't as popular with MN posters, I am almost alone I think on that score.

Not2bObvious · 11/04/2016 14:29

I am quite literally a lost cause! Lunch out with colleagues and it was definitely not bsd friendly. I am stuffed though so hope to fast or at min keep to tdee at worst for the remainder of the day. Bucketing down here, blooming miserable weather

Was it a chain cafe selling almond milk lattes Mootime? TBH I have small lattes and know they are not great in many ways, but I usually have them as a mini meal.

I like the daily weighing and tbh I think that is the thing that will allow me to eventually switch to a 5:2 version without using MFP on the 5 days as if the scale goes up I can eat less the next day without calorie counting. Was nice to have a break from weighing last week though. I didn't MFP over the weekend (and didn't eat that well tbh although some healthy meals and didn't eat in the eves) and somehow managed to lose half a pound of holiday weight both days Shock I thought I was verging on binge snacking on sat afternoon but cant have been as bad as I thought - I bet we are all overestimating our 'binges' tbh as so used to low cal.

I think my holiday gain must have been down to two big meals with white wine on the last eve and first morning ( Blush dp and I had a glass each when packed rather than leave a half bottle of villa maria behind - there was another responsible adult though Grin ). 1 more lb to get off then back to losing properly again.

TheWoodenSpoonOfMischief · 11/04/2016 15:47

I like daily weighing too. It keeps me focussed.

I've only just eaten as I've been busy all day. It wasn't the best but I had to pick up something on my way home. It was a Bol curry pot. 315 calories and absolutely delicious. Plus I'm full.

I'll have some fruit a bit later then dinner is some corgetti with a bit of pesto and some leftover chicken.

agteacht · 11/04/2016 16:29

Afternoon all

Another one here who didn't have a great weekend. I'll ignore what the scales said today and see where I am for my official two week weigh in tomorrow morning...
Still hopeful, as despite lapses it's a lot better than it otherwise would have been!! So let's see...

Those kale crisps sound delicious. Might see if I could manage to make those...

I'm also a supporter of daily weighing. When I don't weigh I let myself completely slip. It's s good way to keep myself in check.

There's still a lot I'm not doing right, for sure..

  • water - need to drink more, maybe if I log it with my food through MFP that might encourage me?! Do people count other drinks eg Diet Coke as well??
  • full fat - eh yoghurt - I haven't managed to make the switch yet. Does it really make a big difference? Years of weightwatchers makes me very uncomfortable about this!
  • coffee... - I'm still having a skinny cappuccino every day - counting it within my calories... not sure I can give it up though! Does anyone think this might be hindering weight loss?

So much to learn but small steps eh Smile

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/04/2016 16:44

You sound like you're at a similar stage to me agteacht , how are you finding it? I record Drinks but I don't drink fizzy, so I jot down coffees/tea (I measure a milk allowance each day) and any green tea or water I Drink. I'm not sure about the skinny latte but I suppose if you're counting the calories in the milk then it's probably OK?

H3l3naGraham · 11/04/2016 17:24

I have just kept out of the kitchen & managed to do some proper work, was going for a walk, but the weather has turned foul.

Not2B - your are one of my motivators, please don't lose the BSD plot, I need you to keep me on plan!!

H3l3naGraham · 11/04/2016 17:32

Agteacht - milk contains lactose, which is a sugar, so yes, it needs monitoring.

Having read your earlier post I tried making a latte today with Almond milk..... I wish I had photographed it & posted the result..... Not sure how your cafe makes it, but mine ended up with the consistency of custard, which sank to the bottom of the mug and left the coffee & hot water on the top - it would have put anyone off lattes for a very, very long time...Envy

Need to count carbs/sugars as well as calories.

oolaroola · 11/04/2016 18:55

That's interesting about the trend, hadn't thought about it like that - and I love miso soup, it's a bit of a lifesaver for that mid afternoon, feeling starving, in need of a pick me up.
I do daily weigh, but worry about feeling obsessed, but I guess I need to be a bit obsessed for a bit.
I also hate 'dieting' when we have guests, it's a private thing for me.

Have spent a glorious afternoon on the beach with the Dc, dog and friends, really lovely but knackered now - all that fresh air and steps!
First day I haven't felt starving all day. I do find that any exercise seems to help reduce hunger pangs. Can't believe I'm saying that...

Not2bObvious · 11/04/2016 19:13

I don't know why I'm struggling so much today, but I reckon it's likely to do with overeating & too much alcohol over the weekend has reintroduced a taste for the "good" life😖 Ok time for a different tack. End out today as best I can and then eat tdee bsd way for the rest of the week. If I don't deprive myself of calories, maybe I won't go all cravey/crazy? Then back to 800-1100 5:2 until the 29th - Jean return or keep day for those of you who might remember my cheap jeans dilemma...those who don't, never fear I'll be bleating about them soon 😉
I can't fall now, I just can't

yumyumpoppycat · 11/04/2016 19:23

[whispers] me too Not2b I just had apple crumble and ice cream - wine is a diet killer it seems. I think I need to concentrate on being strict about quality rather than quantity (or opposite of that!) too for a few days. I have been wondering about doing grain free, dairy free, sugar free for 5 days but keeping in beans. I seem to have an issue where I can only follow incredibly complicated diets Confused

yumyumpoppycat · 11/04/2016 19:25

does 'post holiday detox' sound more or less wanky than grain free, dairy free, sugar free?

H3l3naGraham · 11/04/2016 19:53

Mid-life detox for me, not post holiday!!!
