Just wondering if anyone has tried this and how it went? I am about ten days in and coping well so far.

I have been low carbing for years on and off, and on 5:2 since Sept which seems to make the fasting easier.

wheres that looks really great , have you made cloud bread before? Just thinking the natural greek yoghurt may be less calories ? Glad you can use baking poweder instead as I have some in , I might go and have a go

How may calories is your recipe?

I am making Portuguese chicken lemon and mint soup this evening using 300g poached chicken leg meat and a tin of chickpeas instead of the rice (chickpeas being Portuguese enough I think!) , its smelling yummy, and im planning on having it for my lunches this week, MFP makes it 168 cals a portion (6 portions)

yumyumpoppycat · 07/02/2016 18:29

This food all looks and sounds amazing...defo going to try cloud pizza!

Laska5772 · 07/02/2016 18:33

I want to also yum yum am worried if I make the cloud bread I will eat the lot straight away.. am also just thinking what it would be like if you added some grated parmesan cheese to the mix Wink

yumyumpoppycat · 07/02/2016 18:39

Wink that is a very valid concern!

Ps Laska are you still up for a bit of shredding during the week?

Wheresthattomoibabber · 07/02/2016 18:54

I made three big ones at 100 cal each. Never made it before but have lots of ideas now for other savoury ones. I used cream cheese to make it more satisfying. Other things I think would work well : wholegrain mustard and parmesan, splitting and stuffing with meat and cheese, pesto and bacon...
And I think it would work as muffins so could do blueberries or nuts and seeds. Feeling much more confident about this week now!

The pizza had a teaspoon of tomato puree mixed with a bit of water 100g chicken breast, 1/4 onion and 25g mozzarella.
I wrapped the cloud bread in a clean tea towel and it was ready to go straight away, no need to leave overnight.

Wheresthattomoibabber · 07/02/2016 18:57

It was filling btw. I didn't get the crazy carb craving I would normally get when I eat pizza so one was enough!

Laska5772 · 07/02/2016 19:12

Oh Damn Yum ..
Was I mad enough to suggest Evil Jillian? I must have been feeling dead keen or something

Oh, ok... go on then.. Start tomorrow?

nearlyreadytopop · 07/02/2016 19:39

Hi, can I join you?
I've just read the book. I was super keen to get started until I got to the recipe chapter and then it all seemed so much faff! I think it's because I've been doing Slimming World and am used to no weighing or measuring or calorie counting. But it hasn't worked for me and my weight is really getting me down.
I need to loose 4 stone, I carry a lot around my middle. I have "issues" with sugar. My dad has T2 (and is getting a copy of the book).
I've found some quite straightforward recipes and all the fabulous weight loss on this thread has given me hope. DH is happy to have a low carb diet but won't be joining me in the 800 per day. So I will need to cook for him and the children and then make something else for me.
Sorry for the long post! Any tips for making this work for family cooking?Smile

Wheresthattomoibabber · 07/02/2016 19:42

I also need to lose 4 stone well actually officially 5.5 but who's counting?

Wheresthattomoibabber · 07/02/2016 19:44

Lots of slimming world stuff seems to fit in well - things like roast chicken and loads of veg, veg heavy Bolognese etc You would just have to have a small portion and swap your carbs.

yumyumpoppycat · 07/02/2016 19:46

roasts, stews and stir fries are all good family food just replace some of your carbs with extra veg you can get tubs of spaghetti squash, cauliflower rice etc in tesco for yours and dps side dishes.

Ok laska level 1 tomorrow Grin lets hope its not as evil as we remember. How about level 1 x 3 this week, level 2 x3 next week etc?

Eva50 · 07/02/2016 19:53

Obs I just found the 500 cals very hard going. I'm hoping I can manage on 800. I keep saying to myself "it's only for 8 weeks". I doubt I'll find it easy though.

Laska5772 · 07/02/2016 19:57

nearlyready therese also a section on the 'official' blood sugar diet website. but as we go along people are posting their ideas..

How about we start a recipe thread on MN for the BSD? The 5:2 one is good , but I think this diet is quite different ..

Laska5772 · 07/02/2016 20:01

Yumyum

Steady on! Wasnt it Father Ted who said 'Don't be hasty now! ? Grin

I think last time I did level one for two weeks (at least) .. I'll see how i go on ,(I am 58 you know....Wink)

BigChocFrenzy · 07/02/2016 20:22

Obs Your 8 weeks on 800 should be Low Carb Med:
basically fish, poultry, a little red meat, eggs, cheese, yoghurt, beans, lentil & peas, lots of non-starchy veg, nuts, seeds, olive oil
Plus optionally 1-2 portions fruit daily, no more.

You are not supposed to have alcohol or starchy carbs like bread, potatoes, pasta, rice etc

Mosely re Maintenance:

  • BIG Change: you raise your daily calories from 800 to TDEE.
Use the calculator in the #61 OP and I recommend you set your activity level to sedentary for now, u til you see your weight is stable.

  • Maintenance is mostly the same food as the 8-week plan, just more of it
Remember: BSD maintenance is still low carb
NO sugary crap or junk carbs

  • Optionally you can add alcohol within NHS limits, plus - if this doesn't spike your blood sugar again - SMALL portions of wholegrains, but in small portions like a side dish, not a main part of the meal.
e.g. per day ONE slice of wholegrain bread OR 1 golfball sized portion of rice, pasta or potato

  • Weigh yourself most days (and take action as soon as you see 4 lb, imo)

  • Optional weekly fast. He says at least 1 day per week he has a 12-hr zero-calorie fast, including sleep. He does this by skipping lunch. You could skip breakfast or supper. The idea is to eat much less that day, with 2 light meals, totalling about 1/2 to 2/3 of your TDEE.

nearlyreadytopop · 07/02/2016 20:49

laska a recipe thread would be great!

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 07/02/2016 22:00

So, the difference between low carb Med and straight low carb/Atkins is just that low carb Med allows beans, peas and lentils?

Is that right, bigchocfrenzy?

antimatter · 07/02/2016 22:26

yes, apologies about petit pois, they are mentioned in recipes in this book, I checked yesterday

BigChocFrenzy · 08/02/2016 08:36

Plus plain yoghurt, rubbish

BigChocFrenzy · 08/02/2016 08:40

Beans, pulses, yoghurt are so healthy and they also make the BSD more sustainable longterm imo

BigChocFrenzy · 08/02/2016 08:43

Another way of looking at it:
In the Webchat, I said the BSD was basically classic Mediteranean diet, but with the amount of beans, lentils & peas boosted to replace the starchy carbs like bread, pasta, rice etc. Dr M agreed

BigChocFrenzy · 08/02/2016 08:45

Compared to Atkins, BSD really emphasises oily fish, also fish of all kinds, which is thought to have many health benefits, much less red meat.

Wheresthattomoibabber · 08/02/2016 09:08

Just weighed again GrinGrinGrin

yumyumpoppycat · 08/02/2016 09:39

Ooh was it a good result where's?

Laska level one for now it is Grin Not sure when I will fit it in though I should have done it this morning, have to help at dd1s school, clean house, do some work from home, have dd 2s friend for tea... better get off mumsnet ;)

CiderwithBuda · 08/02/2016 09:54

Re-joining as had a bit of a blip. Had a breast cancer scare so fell off the wagon. Was called back after a routine mammogram and turns out I have something called DCIS which is an area of pre-cancerous cells. Having a lumpectomy on 4 March and will have a three week course of radiotherapy afterwards. All a bit scary so couldn't focus on any kind of diet.

Very aware that the lighter I am th better and I really need to shift some weight. Starting again today.

About to have some Greek yoghurt and blueberries for breakfast,
Lunch will be soup.
Dinner - not sure yet.
