Just wondering if anyone has tried this and how it went? I am about ten days in and coping well so far.

I have been low carbing for years on and off, and on 5:2 since Sept which seems to make the fasting easier.

I sorted out my wardrobe on the weekend, picked out four pairs of work trousers that were previously miles too small and they fit! I have been off the 800 cal diet for a few weeks, weight stable at the new level, am just starting a new job so once I get back into routine with that I am back on BSD and hopefully going down again.

Yddraigoldragon that's great! About how much did you lose in you 8 weeks then?

Burgerbobismydad · 10/03/2016 11:02

not2 what's done is done. You can't change it. Well all have blips!

Yesterday I found it really difficult. I was so starving in the morning and I'd had 700 of my calories before 1pm! Mind you that was enough for me and I didn't fancy anything for dinner. I just think I need to have the lions share of my cals in the morning. I'm up and down during the night with my toddler, I'm up early so maybe that's why.

Beans, bacon and egg for brekki this morning, I've planned steak broccoli and mushrooms for lunch and a protein shake for dinner.

Sputnik · 10/03/2016 12:52

Kudos to you for sticking with it Burgerbob, sleep deprivation is terrible for appetite control.

Not2bObvious · 10/03/2016 13:03

Thanks burger, I finished the day at bmr level so that's not the worst. Hungry today as well, I ate my lunch at 11.15am! Feel very tired, would kill for a nap, I have no excuse though, I'm the only baby round my way 😉 11.7.6 on the scales this morning, 9 pound down in 3 weeks and 3 days. Now to keep away from wine & bickies tonight!

Been offline, blasted Internet. Obs2016 I agree with laska5772, I really think you should have a look at the threads on the BSD website, there's some people with real diabetes issues there, retinal bleeds etc & the chat forums are illuminating, very helpful like Mumsnet people but many are T1 diabetic which might help you - some are having to eat fat 'late' at night before bed time to get their resting BS to a good level, the thread I found good was This Has to Work for Me, says it all in the title. You actually might need to eat more fat - also stress seems to have a powerful effect on some of the posters BS, and you seem to have a lot on your plate (bad analogy, sorry) many say a good walk helps stress & I am someone who needs to get my lardy backside off the sofa & walking to get up to the step count recommended. there's a Swedish site recommended on that stream too, apparently very helpful. Good luck, hang on in there!

Yddraigoldragon · 10/03/2016 18:46

I lost track of weight tbh, IPad crashed in the middle so lost all my inch measures as well. Certainly two stone, main thing for me was the 'new' clothes from shopping in the wardrobe :)
Incidentally I am diabetic T2 and have seen also very much improved levels both on this and previously on 5:2. I am now well controlled and as normal as you get when diabetic.
Can't remember who up thread mentioned eating beans, if this means baked beans I would steer clear as they are very sugary. Some fantastic stats on here though! Well done all!

If I manage to lose a decent amount of weight I won't need to go clothes shopping for years to come!

Just had a really nice dinner, cooked up some red cabbage with ginger, garlic and soy sauce, had it with salmon and roast carrots, delicious.

Laska5772 · 10/03/2016 20:36

Me too sputnik..I have tons of lovely things bought when I was successful on 5:2 before.. (and although I still have a stone to go to get to that weight im finding that with the BSD tummy fat loss I can even get back into some of them already ) Grin

I still havent ventured back into the 10s (which I saw briefly last saturday morning..Sad) so a little disappointing, but maybe tomorrow I might as have had an unintentional VLC day today. Had to do lots of meetings including one early (so no time for breakfast at all as I dont seem to manage to eat until I get into the office ), followed straight away by another which lasted until lunch (both of those were fuelled by black coffee , ) , then another one over over lunch and after ( where I couldnt eat any of the food provided as all sandwiches etc , (so ended up picking the chicken out of a sandwich afterwards), and then yet another one early this evening also which also had food , but my pre-ordered LC option turned out to just be a green salad ! (ah well..)..
I have just come home and ate the chicken breast I got out of the freezer this morning (as i had thought this might be the case..) so I have only just about 500 calories tops..

But I am not hungry ....so Ill call that a Fast Day then!

Yddraigold thats fantastic!! I am so thrilled for you.. I am not going to make anything like that in my 8 weeks (week 7 now) .. Are you down to the weight you wanted to be now?

Yddraigoldragon · 10/03/2016 20:59

Laska no I still have loads to go sadly. At least I know how to do it now though!

OP posts:
yumyumpoppycat · 10/03/2016 21:35

Well done everyone. Laska the 10s will be back soon! Really great that the low carb is producing even better physical changes.

Obs - the scales have come down? That's really excellent news!

I am another who ate most of my calories by 1.00pm today. Interesting that some people need to eat fat late at night to avoid high morning blood sugar in that thread you suggested Graham and Laska, really inspiring thread to read too. It does show how advice can be so conflicting as Dr M did a piece of research on his tv show which suggested eating calories earlier in the day produces better fat loss and blood sugar. Actually I have been doing this consistently this week and lost a little on the scales each day all week which hasnt happened in ages only a 1lb extra than a typical week recently but still fun to see movement. As well as not really having dinner I have also been trying to eat a bit more fibre and have dark chocolate sirt foods.

Sputnik · 11/03/2016 06:28

I do it the other way round and skip breakfast. I've never been a breakfast person and back in my skinny pre DC days I never had it either, only started eating breakfast when I got pregnant as the advice was to eat frequently. I can happily go all morning without eating, when I get a bit hungry around 12 a coffee will stave it off until 2ish. The thought of going to bed hungry scares me!
I noticed on the BSD forum a lot of people seem to fall into a rhythm of 2 meals a day, be that breakfast and dinner, breakfast and lunch or lunch and dinner. For me 2 reasonable size meals are much more doable than 3 tiny ones, that would make me hungrier.

Not2bObvious · 11/03/2016 08:15

Morning all. I think I'm going to go for 2 meals today, I've been doing that most weekends but if I do it today I can have a more substantial lunch as I'm meeting a friend later - be nice to be relaxed about having a little more. My 4 weeks end next Tuesday and as of today I am down to 11.6.8 from 12.2.6 - just need to keep on plan over the weekend for my grand finale! Happy Friday all 😁

HanYOLO · 11/03/2016 09:10

It is all very fascinating. I am still confused about a few things. But the thinking is all starting to make more sense to me thanks to this thread.

I have had a week with kids off school sick and have consequently been picking at things more than I should as haven't been as immersed in work. The scales went down for 3 days in teeny tiny increments and now up, though only to the level of my check in on Monday. So I am going to have a 3 day weekend of focus, strict adherance and plenty of exercise.

I'm going to try to keep to a small breakfast (smoothie probably) my main meal at lunchtime (will have to be later than one though) and then a very light supper. And see how that goes. Also going to try to exercise in the mornings.

3menalittleladyandme · 11/03/2016 11:09

Hi all. After 3 weeks of lurking I was hoping for some advice! Well done everyone on the amounts you've lost so far. Very inspiring! :)
I'm doing this after 2 near misses with gestational diabetes and knowing I'm a bit overweight and eating far too much sugar. I'm sure I was very close to getting T2, and this seemed like the perfect kick-start I needed!
Im nearing the end of my 3rd week doing BSD (and I've lost a stone) but am only doing mon-friday, and trying to be sensible on the weekends. Have realised just how much I picked at food all day long, especially when home with the kids...and am still fighting the cravings when out shopping when I would usually pick up a chocolate bar or have a cake when meetings friends for coffee - hoping this will go?!
So the advice I need is really around exercise. I feel exhausted every night and am tending to hit the hay early to stop thinking about food, so not making it to the gym at all. Will this be massively impacting my weight loss?
x

Obs2016 · 11/03/2016 11:44

Laska, thank you, because of you I have now joined the MM BSD website.

Well. Based on Your (Choc and others) recommendations, Joining MFP has been a total eye-opener!! no wonder I'm not losing any weight.

I had read lots of articles about making sure you include lots of fat: to compensate - cream and cheese and stuff.

but when I went on to MFP and noted down that I had made soup and added some cream, the calories were like 436 for the cream !! I only did it because I thought I was doing the right thing! I don't even like cream in a in that particular soup.

I have totally gone over the 800, in the last 2 days. Not by just a little, but a ginormous amount.

in fact one day I was 1200 and that yesterday I was 1800!! Shock Although that did include some wine Wine oh dear.

I clearly need to have it a re-think here.

Obs2016 · 11/03/2016 11:46

Thank you graham, I glanced at that particular conversation, but will go back and have a really good look.

Obs2016 · 11/03/2016 11:55

I added some bacon bits to my salad, only for the fat idea. 109 calories. I added some Costco rotisserie chicken aswell. Only coz I thought I needed the protein. 140 calories.. Before you know it, my poxy salad, my calories are double what I'm supposed to be eating!! And I would have been very happy without these bits.

H3l3naGraham · 11/03/2016 11:55

Hi 3menalittleladyandme I struggled with exercise to begin with on the Sirt diet, but literally made myself go walking 2 miles 3-4 times a week and it really helped, I think it gets the metabolism fired up and my weight loss improved on the weeks I walked as much as poss, albeit I do modest walks. Unfortunately I have been travelling a lot over the last 2 weeks but am determined to go on a good walk this weekend as an important part of the BSD is exercise, start modestly, something has to be better than nothing. My food cravings always are around food with a crunchy texture ie Ryvita.......have found some beetroot crisps at M&S which seem to be OK BSD wise as well as some chick-pea flour crispbreads, but reading the BSD forums, I can see that sugar addiction is a hard nut to crack & I wish you lots of luck. With the weather improving I can see that I am going to have to start swimming again and hopefully this will see some real results as I am still a long way of a size 14, never mind a 10.....

Burgerbobismydad · 11/03/2016 16:04

Non scale victory today... My cleaning lady (I work from home, have kids, she's essential!) came today and she said I've lost loads of weight since she last saw me a week ago! She kept going on about it! Blush

Tomorrow is my official way and measure day and I'll have done two weeks on the diet tomorrow. Six to go!

Sputnik · 11/03/2016 17:34

3men welcome to the thread, it sounds from what you wrote like you were going to the gym before but can't face it on 800 cals?
Lengthy cardio sessions are going to be difficult on 800, especially at first, and may be detrimental anyway. Have you looked at the fasting exercise thread? Lots of good ideas on there for things like body weight exercises that, IME are easier on low calories. Alternatively focus on increasing your walking.

That said on such a low calorie diet you are going to lose anyway, whatever you do.

Sputnik · 11/03/2016 17:46

Obs, glad you got to the bottom of why you weren't losing weight!

Laska5772 · 11/03/2016 19:42

so ..it was 10.13.5 again today.. But its the ruddy weekend!! I have Dh home (he works away all week) and parents and DS coming tomorrow and I will be cooking a chicken (so I can just have that and the veg , no potato) ..but I bet ill be back in the 11s again Monday..

sigh...

zobalina77 · 11/03/2016 21:55

End of week 2 and I have lost 4 lb, that's a stone in all! I'm still craving carbs, mainly bread, but have managed to stay away. I can now distinguish between true hunger and craving carbs, which I couldn't do before. My husband was reminding me this evening of my massive plates of pasta which I would eat and then still be 'hungry' after.

I'm going out with a friend tomorrow night and I'm worried about alcohol. Will having a bit undo all I've done the last 2 weeks?

Elvish · 11/03/2016 22:05

I'm going out tomorrow as well, first time in 3 weeks. I'm not even going to pretend that I'm counting anything, but I'm considering ordering a glass of water with every drink to slow me down.

I might bring my weekly weigh in forward to just before I go out rather than Sunday morning, then I'll have a week to get over the damage Grin
