Just wondering if anyone has tried this and how it went? I am about ten days in and coping well so far.

I have been low carbing for years on and off, and on 5:2 since Sept which seems to make the fasting easier.

Yes it's only about 1350. I'm only short so even though 58 might seem not much I look pretty hefty and still can't fit inot lots of clothes.

Elvish · 03/03/2016 18:03

You've inspired me to get my calculator out.

So depending on the calculator my DEE is 1800 ish

I need to loose 43lb to be at the max healthy BMI, which is 150,500 cals

If my daily deficit is 1000 cals it's going to take me 150 days - about 6 months - to get to the right range.

So even doing this VLCD is going to take ages to loose this weight Sad

Now I feel inspired to give up and eat Cake

Not2bObvious · 03/03/2016 18:40

I would said your bmr is 1350 but your tdee should be a little higher, my bmr is 1350 (5.4) and tdee is just under 1600. No solutions from me I'm afraid, I think you're very light already but the heart wants what the heart wants. Just keep going x

ErnesttheBavarian · 03/03/2016 18:42

Elvis. We'll all give you a stern talking to. You're not going to give up and despite my moaning (never listen to me btw) it doesn't matter if it is that long. I mean you're not going anywhere. And by the summer you will look and feel so much better. Don't stare into unknown weeks ahead. Take each day as it comes, enjoy your food and the plus of it taking a long time is that you will be well and truly accosted to this woe it really will be a wol and you'll be able to maintain without thinking about it, as opposed to ending a diet and going straight into bad old ways. .

Flowers and encouragement to all

Laska5772 · 03/03/2016 19:35

I'm in my 5th week and have 'only' lost a stone also.. Im thrilled with that!! (especially as its come off my middle where I had pied it all on) but I 'only' had 2 stone to lose.. I'm not hungry either ...thats great Grin

I do think that some of the huge losses inthe book were from people with full blown diabetes and who were also quite large (or men!.. sadly the male of the species seem to be able to lose weight more easily it seems , and especialy more easily that post menopausal over 55yr old woment like me...)

yumyumpoppy my phone is a Windows phone.. so have the MFP Windows app.., maybe there is a difference

804 today (by mfp) .I am not constipated probably due to the large amounts of cabbage i'm eating

I'm finding to get ongoing weight loss I need to cut out the mid-pm 10 almonds .In fact I think ill now cut out nuts altogether until i reach goal.. Beans dont seem to stall my weight loss though.

I have a wedding to go to in 3 weeks (where I wont be dieting of course) , but thats after my 8 weeks. However i'm thinking i might carry on aftrewards until i reach my goal , and then do something like 4:3 after (4 days 800, 3 not,) I am wary after putting back all I lost on proper 5:2, but it was carbs (and Wine)

ErnesttheBavarian · 03/03/2016 20:06

I did write elvish. Dammed autocorrect changed your h to a . for some reason.

Lassa, you know a stone us brilliant though right? You must be really pleased. Do you find that you have more energy?

Have you got a new dress for the wedding ?

lucjam2105 · 03/03/2016 20:10

Weigh in tomorrow morning will tell me how well I've done after one week. Think it will be about 5 lbs.

Had 2 shakes today (exante) disgusting and I was soooo hungry Sad

Sadly I bought 2 boxes. Seemed like a good idea at the time!

HanYOLO · 03/03/2016 20:13

A stone in 5 weeks is pretty awesome. I would be VERY happy with that. (Want/need to lose at lest 2.5 in time).

Do you think the nuts specifically interfere with your weightloss Lasksa, or is it just calories you don't think you need?

Obs2016 · 03/03/2016 20:20

See as a diabetic all my life and having read Bernstein, I was surprised on the inclusion of nuts.

Laska5772 · 03/03/2016 20:32

Oh yes .. Im really, really pleased with my weight loss.

I was just answering earlier posts about stalling and less weight loss than expected .. (perhaps not really well or coherently...)

Obs Elvis and Earnest I know how frustrating a plateau is (or not losing as much as expected/ hoped for/ as others) .. but do hang on in there..
Hans im not sure, I think they do really from past experience ( and its so easy to over eat them ..) I just dont think I need them really ..

Earnest Yes, I suppose I do have more energy .. ( but not drinking Wine so often helps on that front also !! )

Laska5772 · 03/03/2016 20:33

obs what does Bernstein say about nuts? (who is Bernstein?)

Cheby · 03/03/2016 20:50

Has anyone tried making the meals from the MM book? We relied on them for most of our first week. We weighed and measure carefully, but once plugged into MFP every single one we tried was higher in calories than the book said. Not loads, maybe 10% or so. But obviously when you're on a tight calorie budget that's an issue. Did anyone else find that?

Today I covered myself in glory by surviving on sugar free red bull and a single pepperami (I had no idea they still made them but give the choice in the shop at work it was that or pick them ham out of a sandwich and I didn't trust myself not to eat the bread once I'd bought it!).

But I did make a low carb lasagne for dinner, using courgette strips as noodles, extra lean mince with loads of mushrooms to bulk it out, and a small amount of half fat creme fraiche instead of white sauce. 500kcal a portion. It was actual really nice, will definitely try that again.

Obs2016 · 03/03/2016 20:55

Bernstein is an American doctor, very old fashioned. Wrote a book a long time ago all about diabetes and controlling blood sugars. Very very low carb. His list of allowed items is very limited. No nuts, pulses, no fruit, no tomatoes. I was shocked when I read it, how limiting it was. Lots of recipes at the back of the book though.

yumyumpoppycat · 03/03/2016 21:13

Could you send them back Luc?

It seems like lots of things can stall different potentially if they have an intolerance of some sort wheat, dairy, caffeine, fruit....

yumyumpoppycat · 03/03/2016 21:17

Or I guess its possible its blood sugar stuff rather than intolerances for some of us...

Not2bObvious · 04/03/2016 05:58

Oh dear oh dear. Had a lapse in nearly everything last night. Drank most of a bottle of red and ate a good amount of chocolate. I enjoyed it greatly at the time but I'm paying for it now...sob. Headache is starting to kick in. Let's just call that a NFD and I'll put it behind me.
Lots to do today (double sob, my timing for blowout totally blowed😩) But first thing to do is to try get back asleep for an hour at least

FoggyMorn · 04/03/2016 08:01

Hi again. I popped in earlier in the thread. 7.8kg off now (a bit over 17lb), in 4 1/2 weeks.

Yesterday I topped 14k steps, my best so far- I've walked at least 10k steps every day and I'm pretty sure a bit of exercise key to success!

Looking back on MFP weekly diaries, I can see I'm averaging about 200- 250g of total carbs a week!!! Feeling very happy with that.

zobalina77 · 04/03/2016 08:10

End of week 1 and I've lost 10 pounds! I am absolutely delighted. Amazed also as I have hypothyroidism and its so difficult to lose weight. After having a really difficult day yesterday I feel very motivated now to continue.

ErnesttheBavarian · 04/03/2016 09:46

Zobalina that's brilliant. Well done!

zobalina77 · 04/03/2016 10:50

Thanks. I've got a lot to lose, but it's really motivating to lose this much. I did SW for 2 months last year and only lost 9 pounds altogether. Low carb seems the right way to go for me.

StEdmundsPippins · 04/03/2016 11:11

Morning everyone.

Sorry I didn't get back to the thread earlier but I've been reading up on all the information you gave me, which has been SO helpful. So much so in fact that I've dropped 3lbs since Tuesday. I'm amazed!

I don't think I can go as detailed as some of you seem to be doing foodwise, and I certainly can't exercise as much as I want to, but am keeping up with a 15 min walk every other day to begin with, with a view to increasing it in a couple of weeks.
Laska -your stone weight loss is fantastic.

Reading all your posts has inspired me that this is the way to go. Thankyou, and Flowers for everyone.

Elvish · 04/03/2016 13:32

Great losses Zobalina and StEd.

Thanks Ernest, I'm sticking with it, just felt a bit depressed after doing those sums!

I'm happy to keep on the 800 for the next few weeks as I'm actually finding it easy to stick to the limits. I'm only going to weigh myself once a week so I'm hoping for another good loss.

I agree with a PP who said that 800 was in some ways easier than 1200 cals a day. I know I can't have any snacks, so I've put them out of my mind. Whereas on WWs or SW I would have intended to have a little bit of something and then gone overboard.

Doing Mother's Day meal at our house, so I can pile high the veggies and avoid the carbs. If I can stay off the wine this weekend it'll be a great achievement.

Not2b sorry you're feeling rough today, but you have answered my question of whether the headaches will come back if I fall off the wagon and then start again.

I'm going out on the 12th and I've decided that I will drink and eat whatever I like, but with a little eye on the carbs (so avoid pizza and drink gin). I'm going to be good until then, and enjoy myself for the day before getting back to it.

yumyumpoppycat · 04/03/2016 15:06

Well done everyone. I think 800 is hard, but if I go over my calories are still low, whereas with 1200 it would be easy not to lose any weight at all by going over a bit and get even more disheartend. I just need to buckle down more with lower carbs.

PS going back to constipation - I can now (4 loo visits in less than 2o hours) recommend a teaspoon of psyllium husks followed by lots of water!! everything was buy 1 get 1 half price in holland and B yest.

Obs2016 · 04/03/2016 15:36

Well done zob and StEd.
That is really good.

Cuttheraisins · 04/03/2016 15:40

Lost 6 pounds in week one, and now day 10 I have lost 1.5 inch off my waist. Delighted. I eat more than the 800 calories though more towards 1000 but still loosing weight. I found that I was too snappy and lacked patience with only 800 calories and as I am a childminder I can't really allow that! I just keep all the same ingredients but with slightly larger portions.
