Just wondering if anyone has tried this and how it went? I am about ten days in and coping well so far.

I have been low carbing for years on and off, and on 5:2 since Sept which seems to make the fasting easier.

NSV for me!
been trying on some of the many clothes i have which didnt fit , and lots of them do now!! (even though i still have over another stone to go )

Strangely even a lovely summer dress that I bought when I was 10 stone fits.. I think this diet has certainly slimmed down my middle in away that 5:2 didnt (it'll be the lack of carbs..i reckon ) .I am still just as big of nork though , but hoping they will go down as its round there that things are a bit tight still on lots of stuff

But best of all, this morning I actually got my (expensive) winter down coat zipped up .. a bit too late to wear it this year,-I last wore it 2 years ago.. ..Also my £££s grey leather biker jacket that DH bought me a couple of years agoalso .. though that is still a bit tight across the bust ..

But YAY! It feels like I have new clothes!

860 today, (over due to falling for some reduced spicy cheese slices and eating two at lunch time after I had already had my soup .. I should have just left them on the shelf Angry) .

2 scrambled eggs for breakfast as usualy

Dinner was what is fast becoming my staple . chicken breast ,sliced and poached in stock , with onion. garlic , dijon mustard and a little greek yoghurt , on a bed of cabbage/ spring greens.. Yummy !

Laska5772 · 01/03/2016 20:18

Oh and Hi StEdmunds yes do go over to Michael Mosely's 'official site' and have a look there also , There are lots of people there who are diabetic or prediabetic..

welshbubba · 01/03/2016 20:23

I think it seems sensible to stick to full fat products - any excuse to eat my new discovery of full fat greek yogurt!!

So today is day 5 which means after tomorrow I will be 10% of the way through my 8 week stint.

Today have had squash and lentil curry, half an apple (2 yr old dc snaffled the rest!), and chicken and egg salad for tea. Haven't calculated my cals yet but should be well within the 800.

Have also had a NSV - met up with friends and declined the cake!! (This is quite a major achievement for me!!).

Really enjoying hearing about everyone's progress Smile.

Not2bObvious · 01/03/2016 20:31

Ooh I can't quite imagine taking olive oil by the spoon (if you could see my face 😣) bfc - but thanks for adding to my collection of faces, prunes boak, flaxseed yuk, olive oil bleurgh 😁
I know the dulcolax method isn't popular round here but it did help a lot. It's just not right to be that bunged up for so long, it really gets me down. Anyway, thanks all and more than enough of my whinging about it. I managed to get my act together. Did a 30 minute kettle bell workout, tried to go for a run but it was raining so did 21 minute Davina fitness challenge. And still had steps to take so do a 45 min walk on which I got soaked with freezing rain. But I survived! 867 cals and kitchen closed. Week 3 day 1 done

lorelei9 · 01/03/2016 20:58

Poking head in cautiously

I'm not diabetic but have a fair bit to lose.

When I first heard 800 cals a day I thought it was madness but if it shows a good result....also I was recently on holiday in the sun, lot of walking, no work boredom and I ate a lot less. Not 800 cals but less than when I had been dieting before I left.

So I'm reading the book but I'm still faintly horrified at the idea of such a low cal diet, plus I'd have to switch my normal gym workout ( weights and cardio) to walking only I reckon. I struggle with 1200 cals on workout days.

Any thoughts, anyone in my position re exercise? I'm a regular exerciser so it will seem odd but if it helps me shed pounds ....I'm wondering what happens at the end of 8 weeks but have only just got the book so guess I'll find out.

Cheby · 01/03/2016 21:04

There are some brilliant achievements on this thread, well done to all.

I'm finding that I'm eating a much bigger variety of food now which is helping things stay more interesting. Although tonight I've attempted a low carb version of our usual shepherd's pie topped with celeriac mash. It's coming in at 350kcal a portion which really surprised me, but I measured everything carefully and plugged it into MFP Recipes.

Oh, does anyone else get a daily telling off from MFP for not eating enough?Grin

Sputnik · 01/03/2016 21:25

Cheby that's another reason I switched to Fitday!

Hi Lorelei, there's lots of exercise info over on the exercise thread, before I sprained my ankle I was doing resistance training and swimming, was advised to cut down the swimming, in fact it was quite tough on 800cals. Resistance was a lot easier. I am doing a 5:2 version of the BSD, which for me means 800cals through the week and eating normally weekends. For me that makes it more likely I'll stay the course. Doing cardio on one of those days was definitely easier.

FoggyMorn · 01/03/2016 21:35

I'm 4 weeks in to the BSD, and have lost 7kg (about 16lb), and that's as someone who was ALREADY low carb, high fat (paleo/primal/Lchf, whatever label you prefer), and that brings my total weight loss to 38kg/6stones (over several years).

I follow a grain free, whole food diet (heavy on green leafy stuff, non starchy veg and seafood, with plenty of good quality meat and natural fats, very little dairy other than butter and cream). So I've just cut it back to 800 cal a day, with an 6 or 8 hour eating window most days. I think the short eating window is quite helpful, for both me and my DH.

Family history of type 2 diabetes, IBS,coeliac, inflammatory bowel disease, RA, other autoimmune conditions... I had some of these myself (now resolved/in remission on the "clean" diet), and had gestational diabetes, a big risk factor for developing type 2. Have been self testing with a blood sugar meter every few months for the past 8 years and watching my BS carefully. I'm certain I would have fully diabetic some years ago if I hadn't lost weight and started watching my carb intake. However, I still have weight to lose, and too much of that is on my belly, and my BS is too near the high end of normal for my liking.

The 800 cal for 8 weeks is an excellent and much needed kick up the arse! At the start of the 8 weeks, I bought a step tracker and I am finding that very motivating- walking an hour every day since (pats self on back Wink). Can't quite face anything more vigorous while on the 800cal a day!

ErnesttheBavarian · 01/03/2016 21:40

Yes. It annoys me vis when you have mire it says in 6 weeks you will weigh xyz and I muss that.Sad

My welcome stEd turned into welcome studConfused.

I've gone over today. School dinners was roasted chicken breast with rosemary potatoes and roasted Mediterranean vegetables. I fave away tge spuds and the nice dinner lady gave me 2 pieces of chicken (and a gazillion spuds ) and I ate all tge chicken. Kicks self. Then for dinner I ste a salad it was big but I put loads of beans on it. Need a non prune solution to the downstairs problem. Ahem. The lemon and oil trick didn't work for meSad.

So I went the loads if beans and beetroot route.

Eggsandketchup · 01/03/2016 21:42

day four done. 8lbs less, and an inch comfortably off my waist when I measured this morning.
I think I've had closer to 900 cals today - I had a bit of extra chicken at dinner but it's shark week so really I'm just glad that I haven't eaten all the carbs ever.

lorelei9 · 01/03/2016 22:05

Shark week?

Thanks Sputnik for the exercise thread.

ErnesttheBavarian · 01/03/2016 22:13

Christ tge 1st bit was double Dutch sorryBlush. I was regretting MFP telling you off for nit eating enough cos it also then doesn't tell you how much you will weigh in 6 weeks
i like that bit.

Not2bObvious · 01/03/2016 22:16

Arg Ernest, I noticed that earlier, was sniggering away in work. I have to admit this last message is reminding me of 'Ello 'Ello - remember the English guy disguised as a French policeman - anyone remember? I "muss" my projected weight too 😁

lrb978 · 01/03/2016 22:21

Cheby I just plug in 400 snack calories, and have set my daily total to 1200. It stops MFP shouting at me, and means I beat the target it sets me Grin Win win all round Grin

Ernest I love the gulls Smile

Notso and others struggling with being bunged up. You may find the amount of eggs (if you eat a lot) may not be helping (affects some people more than others). Equally there may be some foods that will help, although it will be trial and error for each person. For me, smoked salmon and alliums (garlic and onion family) are helpful.

Sputnik hope you manage to lose the 2 stone soon Flowers

Laska Fantastic NSV, new wardrobe for no cost Smile

Usual salad for lunch here, have discovered a liking for black olives which is adding a bit of flavour. Stir fry for tea. Managed to drink the 2l today, first for a few days, and feel better for it. Clocking off at 750 cals today, with tomorrow roughly planned out as well (a first, I normally wing it).

Oh, and a NSV in that I am able to resist the food brought in by the office feeder. She is lovely, but will not buy food for herself without bringing some back for the rest of the office to share, normally of the chocolate digestive/chocolate hobnob variety Sad.

StEdmundsPippins · 01/03/2016 22:50

Back again and thanks to all for the welcomes. I've just re-read my earlier postings and I sound panicky - because I was. However, I've just spent a few hours reading the MM website and discussing it all with my DP.

We've emptied all the forbidden foods from the kitchen, written a list of the right foods which he is going to buy tomorrow, and he is giving me more support by following the plan with me as he somewhat ruefully decided he needs to lose some weight too, though not as much as I do.

I've found the website MM really helpful. I did the quizzes (bit of a reality check there), and am going to try out some of the recipes, once DP sorts the shopping.

See you all tomorrow. Smile

Not2bObvious · 02/03/2016 11:37

Back to 11.8.2 today!!! Delighted. I have to steer clear of fizzy or chewy sweets this weekend, they added unnecessary amounts of calories not to mention sugar of course! The gain seemed to have been purely the weight of the food in my system.
So back to 8.4 pound down 😁

littlbrowndog · 02/03/2016 15:51

Back after time off with a hideous virus with a hacking cough which has really floored me, seems to be going around here, took to my bed for days

So going back to week 6 as didn't get past it

Haven't lost anything when ill but not gained either which is good but was just having to eat what I could stomach and was lying about coughing and whining

Starting to do my 10,000 steps everyday plus tennis when the weather is suitable

Some great weight losses on here !

ErnesttheBavarian · 02/03/2016 18:12

I am the only person who can gain weight on 800 cal a dayAngry

yumyumpoppycat · 02/03/2016 18:25

I share your anger ernest I have gained at about 1200 doing this which I cant understand!! Think its all down to salt intake on a given day, our friend constipation, bloating from maybe wheat or dairy, totm/hormonal fluctuation and other yawny stuff.

HanYOLO · 02/03/2016 18:46

Day 3.

Bought some Purition shake sachets - vegan hemp and nutty things - I like them but if you don't like flax, you won't. They do whey ones too but for some reason don't fancy a ton of whey protein (have vegan tendencies when I think about it). Quite satisfying and did the job. Will try another for breakfast tomorrow as re-entering the world after being sick with a virus since Sunday.

Ernest - I bet I can gain weight on this diet. I never lose weight or at least never lose much.

Haven't been exercising as much as I usually do due to virus, so bit worried that my usual regime (I do 7 - 10 hours yoga per week) is going to do me in so wondering if need to step it back a bit at least at first. I was thinking about trying to get back into the running I was doing pre-Xmas too but I think I need to get through the first few weeks of this before I try that. I've not found my first 3 days in earnest too bad but a post exercise hunger could throw that. How have other people handled it?

Not2bObvious · 02/03/2016 19:19

Ernest I feel your pain, I was gutted to see that gain but as I've found it was food in my system. I used to gain back & forth on my previous attempts but if I looked closely and was honest, I usually found I'd drank & ate a week or 2 previous. But this time I know I'm not doing any of those things - it's so frustrating. But I think we have to have faith, we can be strong!!!!

Cheby · 02/03/2016 19:27

Thanks for the tip about quick calories in MFP, will try that to avoid my telling off. Smile

A colleague at work has just started a clean eating regime so I have a new low carb buddy, which is nice.

We have had a tough week this week with DH in a car accident meaning my car has been written off (he is completely fine, thankfully), so I've had all that to sort out on top of a really busy week at work. It's exactly the kind of week where we would just order a takeaway and drink wine. We have managed to avoid it though and I've managed to run the usual gauntlet of cakes and biscuits at work without eating any, so I'm calling that a small victory.

lorelei9 · 02/03/2016 21:27

Um....people are gaining...? Presumably that means gaining after a major loss, in which case you could just be balancing out?

ErnesttheBavarian · 02/03/2016 21:46

No major loss here Sad admittedly I don't gave that much to lose, about 5 kilis but they are impossible to shift. Its like walking on bloody glass

I know that I shouldn't complain. I've lost .9 kilos in the last week so it looks like thus is going to take a while. I seriously wonder if this is even achievable. Do people ever succeed in reaching their target weight, or do the majority get to a feel kilos off and give up?

Brain kit working. What's the magic mfp trick in idiot level explanation? ?
