Just wondering if anyone has tried this and how it went? I am about ten days in and coping well so far.

I have been low carbing for years on and off, and on 5:2 since Sept which seems to make the fasting easier.

As a vegan, I have flaxseeds almost every day. How do you have yours, Han?

I make quite a tasty dish with them - I started with just flaxseeds and fruit juice, then began adding other things, since I'm conscious of my need for trace elements:
1 tbs ground flaxseeds
1 tbs ground sesame or sunflower seeds (only ground 'cos I have the grinder on anyway)
Sprinkle of flaked almonds
2 stewed unsulphured apricots
2 stewed prunes
Just enough apple juice to moisten

I have this as part of my lunch - used to be my breakfast, which I don't eat these days.

I put the apricots/prunes on to stew if we've got the oven on for something else. I quite often nibble one or two of the cooked apricots if I want something sweet - they give you such a sugar hit, whilst thinking you're doing something vaguely healthy.

Talking of vaguely healthy, whenever I eat dark chocolate - fairly often - I try and munch a couple of walnuts with it.

HanYOLO · 29/02/2016 19:03

I was suggesting them mainly for Notso and another poster who were - er - bunged up - really.

I tend to put mine in a breakfast smoothie with green tea, spinach, almond milk and cinnamon. Or use it to make a kind of porridge, with almond or oat milk, pop in the microwave and heat for a minute and it thickens, it's quite satisfying. Or just sprinkled over fruit/yoghurt. I've been getting them readyground lately which isn't as good as grinding them yourself but like the Linwoods mixes (currently on one with brazil nuts and Q10).

Eggs that's how I was feeling last week, very energised. Still feeling good this week, considering I'm pretty much stuck on the sofa with this stupid ankle. Physically also, my digestive system is thanking me for giving it less to do. Just feeling a little hungry late morning (I skip breakfast) - coffee deals with that then I have lunch and dinner and feel fine for the rest of the day.

B&W that sounds good, I just looked them up, dried apricots and prunes not too calorific, so do-able within 800 per day without added juice.

welshbubba · 29/02/2016 19:28

I'm day 4 today and 5lb down. Had squash and lentil curry for lunch (about 250cals I think) followed by blueberries with greek yogurt. But felt very hungry and irritable this afternoon - seems to have settled with an apple and a cup of tea. Looking forward to chicken salad for tea. Might have some houmous too. Am definitely not drinking enough, need to try harder!
Haven't really felt the keto flu yet - does everyone get it??
Hope everyone's had a good day Smile.

Sputnik · 29/02/2016 19:36

I didn't get keto flu, just hunger. Water definitely helps. It should get easier soon.

Laska5772 · 29/02/2016 19:45

HI all Im still doing this, but last week was a STS week and I was a bit pssed of with that (iknow daft eh, but I'm known fo rbeing hard on myself, where I wouldnt be with anyone else ) ..to the extent of indulging in a G&T and a few glasses of Wine over the weekend..So i got on the scales this morning expecting to see a gain, but no still the same..Smile Phew!

So thus encouraged I have given myself a good kicking up the Bishop Brennan got back on the wagon. Have had a good day today at just on the 800 cals .. ..

Actually although im still loitering at just under the stone lost , ive had plenty of people commenting on my loss , so it must be showing, my tum is definately much flatter.. this is my 5th week of doing this so really 12.5lbs ( as it is) is really good

Have I exercised? have I fk I wear a fit bit also , but its been a bit bad this last week I didnt even leave the house all weekend Blush

B&W I dont think we can have apricots and prunes on this WOE.. (correct me if i am wrong people) .. Sugar highs and lows is not what we are after , and I think they have the same effect on people with blood sugar problems as ordinary sugar

On previous L/C diets ( you know the severe Atkins kind) I found that flax stopped weight loss bloated me up and didnt seem to make any difference at all to making things more regular I have been preventing the bunging up with a couple of cooked beetroot chopped into my tomato soup.. (get the ones in vacumn pack .. its yummy and works!) also .. rather than laxatives if desperate you could try Ducoease..it helps rehydrate the stools somehow.. and is definately not so violent .

Another good old fashioned remedy (if you can get thenm .. is to put a couple of senna pods in your pot of herb tea a couple of times a week .. I use them in Mint tea if needed.. they really dont taste of much , quite pleasant really . I have bought senna pods in my local healthfood shop and easyweigh shop

Laska5772 · 29/02/2016 19:51

Im just starting my 5th week, so 12.5 lbs in 4 weeks ( 3 actually as STS last week ) .. I want to lose another 15.5 .. (to make my 2st in all and put me back to my lowest 5:2 weight ) .

I find if I dring black coffee I can easily do without breakfast.. I'm going to try and get back into that during weekdays at work..

Not2bObvious · 29/02/2016 20:05

Yep same here in flax/seed mixes, makes it worse for me and very calorific when trying to stick to 800 - although that argument would hold more weight if I actually did stick to 800 regularly! My lax tea has Senna, only make me want to throw up. I think it might be time for laxatives - not willing to go on any longer like this. 1 decent movement in 2 weeks is unacceptable. Took 2 since 1 often doesn't work.
Thanks all for the advice, hoping to feel better by tomorrow

ErnesttheBavarian · 29/02/2016 20:11

I can guarantee 350 ml of prune juice will sort you right out. Just don't plan to leave the house for 3 or 4 hours......

Laska5772 · 29/02/2016 20:18

not"B try Dulcoease first

HanYOLO · 29/02/2016 20:22

That must be so uncomfy not2b. Hope you get sorted soon!

welshbubba · 29/02/2016 20:26

Are we supposed to avoid low fat products completely. I get this for low fat flavoured yogurts as usually contain sweeteners, but what about plain low fat yogurt? I love full fat greek yogurt but it's quite high in cals.

Not2bObvious · 29/02/2016 20:31

Too late Laska, the deal with the dulcolax devil has been done...as in I already necked 2 of them, next week I'll try that stuff if it continues.
I'm irrationally scared of prune juice ernest, my mind tells me it tastes like something sickly sweet & clove like, despise cloves with a passion. I'm sure it doesn't but my brain just can't get past that

welshbubba · 29/02/2016 20:34

HanYOLO · 29/02/2016 20:36

So, finally, I've managed to bring a day's calories in under 800. Quite a lot under actually (less than 700), so I am going to allow myself a square of dark chocolate. I have felt hungry at times, or rather aware of not being full. Have found it a challenge today as have been poorly at home, and haven't been able to get to yoga.

Sputnik · 29/02/2016 20:42

Plain low fat should be fine, but full fat greek does fill you up more. I often have it for lunch with a handful of nuts and low carb fruit, and I'm fine til dinner time.

ErnesttheBavarian · 29/02/2016 20:47

I never buy low fat products. Read these if you have time

I'm really passionate about this. I honestly think my dear mil obsession with low fat eating caused her cancer and early death at 59. I never touch em.

welshbubba · 29/02/2016 20:58

Thanks will take a look at the links. Hadn't really thought about them being more filling.

ErnesttheBavarian · 29/02/2016 21:24

It's not just that gull fat products are more filling, but they are. But also many if the vitamins and nutrients are fat soluble do by skimming off the fat you're skimming of the health benefits. Skim through those 2 links and they give many mire reasons. Also studies show women who eat more full fat dairy lose more wright than those consuming low fat products. Dunno if the study specifically looked only at women. I only skimmed through too.

Laska5772 · 29/02/2016 21:34
