Just wondering if anyone has tried this and how it went? I am about ten days in and coping well so far.

I have been low carbing for years on and off, and on 5:2 since Sept which seems to make the fasting easier.

Well done everyone on their victories, both SV and NSV.
Flowers to everyone who has slipped this week.
Hello to all the de-lurkers/newbies.

Fell off spectacularly on Friday, over 1800 cals and lots of carbs Sad. Tough day and my eating suffered for it. But I didn't struggle too badly yesterday, although I was just over 1000 cals, and today I have clocked in at about 650 cals (I would normally top up to the 800, but figure with the last couple of days, it won't harm me).

Small SV this week, down from 85.5kg to 84.9kg, or from 13st 6.5lb to 13 st 5.1lb.

Big NSV though, in that my OH has read the book and is making big changes to his diet as well :) Not as big as the changes I have made, but then he doesn't really have much weight to lose (though more than he might admit). But having him eating similarly to me means I am not the only one cutting carbs, so the days I see him make it much easier for me.

Eggsandketchup · 29/02/2016 09:18

Checking in. I felt like I was dying yesterday, but today I feel great! I'm on day 4 of the 800 cal a day 8 week BSD. I really hope the low carb flu bit is over and done with.

7lbs down since Saturday.

mootime · 29/02/2016 09:43

Had a bit of a disasterous weekend, but back in the wagon today. Will try and catch up properly later!

yumyumpoppycat · 29/02/2016 10:04

Eggs - fantastic, and love the way you felt terrible yesterday and great today that sounds like you are doing low carb properly!

Hoping disasterous weekend means calorie disaster and actually a fun weekend moo Grin I think most of us are going for a 2/5 approach one way or another tbh.

Stayed the same today, I am really conscious that I only have a couple of weeks of the month where I seem able to eat healthily and low cal/carb so want some decent loss before I start going all pmsy again. The tmi toilet discussion applies to me too, this is turning into the poo thread Shock I saw an advert last night for dulcolax overnight tablets promising regular toilet habits, and was tempted for a second, but I suspect that's a slippery slope, plus don't fancy waking up in the night desp for the loo! Does anyone remember the shitters tea thread!

I have a friend coming round this eve so planning for at least 1200 cals today so I can have a small glass of red wine and maybe some nuts and olives with her, there is a lot going on for her at the mo so wine is in order! I don't think I have had a drink (other than a splash in cooking occasionally) while doing this diet so at least a month.

I have a day at home for housework and cant be arsed...somehow just typing that makes me think right lets get on with it!

Not2bObvious · 29/02/2016 10:52

Well I can report that my poo tea didn't work & I'm now up to 11.10.2 from 11.8.2 on Friday. I'm p'ed off, I know it's just fluid/waste retention and it will pass. I'm wallowing but it will pass, no intention of breaking. Didn't go this far to give up! Cranky as f**k today. Very glad I'm on my ow in my office today

lucjam2105 · 29/02/2016 11:13

Not can you get out for a quick brisk walk at all? Failing that take up smoking that's supposed to shift it!! Wink

Weekend was HARD. Saturday was fine, did some walking and volunteered at park run so wass out and about quite a bit. Family decided to have pizza for dinner, I had a soupy stir fry thing from Hemsley and Hemsley book which was fabulous, lots of ginger, chilli, coriander, lime, miso, prawns and courgetti.

Was supporting and cheering on DH yesterday at the half marathon, had an egg white before I left in the morning as wanted to save my cals for lunch. Got home to change before heading out for lunch but was so hungry grabbed a bread roll and it was eaten before I knew it. Had lunch which was a roast but lean meat etc so think it was ok.

Has some chicken sliced on some toast before bed. Ugh idiot.

Back on it today, had lost 3.5 lbs since Friday but put on 1lb overnight. Waaaah. Blush

lucjam2105 · 29/02/2016 11:16

eggs we started on the same day, I'm 2.5lbs down and you're 7, that's amazing. Are you exercising? I wish I had lost that much.

yumyumpoppycat · 29/02/2016 12:01

Luc maybe its your scales, or time of the month, do you have a lot to lose?

Obs hope todays the day - {makes stronger Brew to share}

lucjam2105 · 29/02/2016 12:02

Yes about 6 stone! Blush Not TOTM. Will plod on!

yumyumpoppycat · 29/02/2016 12:10

Luc I bet Big Choc will have some ideas. Were you dieting before you started, maybe if you were already low calorie you might need to concentrate more on low carb? I read an interesting article someone posted in a thread about plateaus. Will look for it.

Ps am making chicken broth, inspired by your stirfry I just added in turmeric root and ginger, Now my fingers are bright yello! Does anyone know how I get the stain off?????

Not2bObvious · 29/02/2016 12:20

Thanks for the suggestion Luc but I walked over 30,000 steps over the weekend, did 40 mins HIIT and drank at least 6 litres of water. So exercise & water aren't helping the "motions" iykwim lol.
Arg so frustrating to be such a scales junky! I know it's not real weight gain, I mean how could it be? Even with a little increase in food over the weekend, I barely ate 3500 in total over 3 days so it's impossible to gain 2lb, I know it's undigested food but I still want to kick the crap out of the scales. Anyway...trying to calm down, will have my soup soon, might cheers me up unlikely, hate soup

lucjam2105 · 29/02/2016 12:22

Dieting on and off all the time mixed in with running. I'll see what happens in the next few days.

As for the yellow fingers not sure I can help!

Sputnik · 29/02/2016 12:28

Not2b this too will pass. And until it does then I wouldn't bother weighing yourself you'll only get cross.

I must say that after the first few days of feeling hungry I have felt great on this WOE both physically and in terms of mood, apart from the odd glitch. As I'm doing 2:5 over the weekend I allowed myself to eat what I wanted but found myself feeling full pretty quickly and in the end I think I ate about 1200-1300 cals each day. Maybe that hurting my ankle affected my appetite too.

Anyway so on with the 800cals for the rest of the week, but I guess losses will slow down as I'm now sat on the sofa most of the day, getting round with crutches is pretty laborious and tiring, though I am getting more used to it.

Not2bObvious · 29/02/2016 12:30

Keep going luc, you're doing great. It didn't go on overnight so I guess we'll need patience to go the distance. Week 3 starts to tomorrow for me, halfway mark

Not2bObvious · 29/02/2016 12:32

But but but if I don't weigh in my scales won't think Iove it 😜 Yeah you're right sputnik, if I'm going to wi like this I have to take the rough with the smooth. Sorry for the moaning, wasn't looking for solutions more a place to vent.

HanYOLO · 29/02/2016 12:33

Fell of the wagon that I 'd only just hitched to yesterday. Got a cold. Not carb flu but actual proper snotty cold. So I fed it. Apart from one jelly baby it was all good stuff but very definitely 1500 cals at least, probably more. So, despite the cold am getting back into it properly today and calling this day 1.

It's all in the planning isn't it?

Sorry about the clogging up people are experiencing. Have you tried some ground flax seed - a bit of that every day is a whole ton of fibre as well as other good nutrients? (though I 'd be tempted to reach for the fybogel)

What's everyone having for supper tonight? I think I'm going to have poached salmon and gingery stirfry veg.

ErnesttheBavarian · 29/02/2016 12:37

Seriously, how do you manage to do so many steps?

I need to stand on the scales regularly. It makes a huge difference to my motivation levels. Of course if they are moving too slowly or in the wrong direction it's disappointing. But its great if they move in the right direction. And if I don't look they definitely will go up.

yumyumpoppycat · 29/02/2016 12:44

Greek salad and leftover chicken tonight.

This is what I read about metabolism/ plateaus - www.precisionnutrition.com/metabolic-damage not sure how much helpful advice there is though, looks like what you eat is as important as how much you eat for people who find weightloss harder.

Not2bObvious · 29/02/2016 13:05

If the walking question was for me - I actually did 46,827 steps from Friday to Sunday. I wear a Fitbit so I catch all steps (I'm sure it over counts a bit) I took the kids for a walk Friday, then walked for another bit. Did exercise DVD & a 25 min jog and a 1.5 round trip walk to shops on Saturday, then another shopping trip yesterday plus another few 100 steps here & there. I'm taking the 10,000 steps a day very seriously as you can see 😁 If there's an opportunity to get a few steps in I take it. Today's a write off, p'ing rain & miserable. I know it's hardly as if I'll melt but there are limits to my dedication

HanYOLO · 29/02/2016 13:10

That's LOADS Not2be. Impressive.

Elvish · 29/02/2016 14:14

So, help me out please!
What is SV and NSV?
And WOE?

Had a salad from subway this lunchtime, fatty meat but hopefully OK as I resisted bread!

Trying corgetti tonight for the first time, hope I like it as much as I did cauliflower rice as that will be a great replacement for evening meals I can eat with DH.

I think everyone is doing brilliantly, even those falling off the waggon are eating what a lot of diets would recommend.

zobalina77 · 29/02/2016 14:15

I'm on day 4 and felt awful yesterday, all tired and headachey, but today I feel fine and not hungry at all. Been relatively easy to stick to so far as I have been at work every day but am off on Wednesday and am worried that I will crave carbs if I'm at home bored.

Not2bObvious · 29/02/2016 15:03

Sv = scales victory, what it says, weight loss on scales
Nsv = non scales victory, can be a good behaviour, could be a belt notch down
Woe or wol = way of eating, way of life instead of using the dreaded D word
Hope that helps

Elvish · 29/02/2016 16:11

Thanks Not2b that makes sense. This is my first WOL thread so I'm still working things out Grin

Eggsandketchup · 29/02/2016 17:42

lucjam It's still 2 and a half pounds in four days. That is a great loss! Different people must react to it differently. I think I'm really lucky because the keto flu thing only lasted a day for me - from what I have read, that's a very short time. Maybe that has something to do with it? Are you still in the brain fog flu bit?

I feel positively fucking wonderful today. I've been googling and being in ketosis can make you feel in a really good mood, or euphoric with a clear mind. Once you get through the initial crappy bit. Normally by this time, I'm dead on my feet, but I don't feel tired at all - and I've only had 500 odd calories so far today. And I feel so relaxed, when normally I'm quite anxious and impatient. It's so weird to have so much energy on so little fuel. Well... if I'm burning belly fat it's actually a ginormous amount of fuel, come to think of it. It's so weird. Why did no one tell me about this sooner? All the months I've wasted at weight watchers and slimming world with my pasta and cereal bars and sugary yoghurts. FFS.

Hope this happy clear headed thing lasts!
