Just wondering if anyone has tried this and how it went? I am about ten days in and coping well so far.

I have been low carbing for years on and off, and on 5:2 since Sept which seems to make the fasting easier.

I weighted myself this morning and was 2 pounds down but fell off the wagon really badly after a bad day at work.

Wine and ice cream was involved and I don't even like ice cream.

Tomorrow will be a better day.

welshbubba · 26/02/2016 19:52

Hi I've started this today. Have skim read the book but still finding it a bit confusing. Particularly around which fruit and veg to eat. He says no tropical fruit but there is a recipe with mango? And I thought carrots would be a no as they are a root veg but they are in the photo of typical foods to eat?
What I need is a more comprehensive list of foods allowed and not. I've found so me for vlcd but MM's diet is not as strict I don't think. Has anyone found a more suitable food list?

HanYOLO · 26/02/2016 20:34

So I MFP'd my day

It is quite sobering - and my snacking habit is really visible so I am Blush
873 calories all told. Did 2 yoga classes - though one was the kind where you lie around on the floor in a candlelit room having soothing words spoken to you - but walked briskly to and from (20 mins), and MFP reckons that used up 359 calories.

Will try to stay under 800 tomorrow.

Feeling a bit hungry and thinking I should go to bed early to stop myself grazing

Not2bObvious · 26/02/2016 21:05

Evening all. Seems like it's a slippery slope day for a few of us! I'll see you beetroot crackers & ice cream, and raise you star burst/fizzy jellies/moam chewy stripsBlush
Ok ok, I'm a sugar loaded disaster I know (am talking to myself folks- blame the sugar) Anywho all done, nothing to be done but put it behind me. Hiit session planned for the morning and my usual 10,000 steps and vv little sugar!!!

OttiliaVonBCup · 26/02/2016 21:13

I did 20,000 steps yesterday and 10,000 today. Hope it will keep the diet gods happy.

yumyumpoppycat · 26/02/2016 21:41

I am marvin now thanks to snacky afternoon.... drools at thought of moam strips. THIS is hard!!! but worth it. Well done everyone for keeping going - bound to be slips along the way.

ErnesttheBavarian · 27/02/2016 07:15

I'm not craving sweet things at all. That rice pudding I had yesterday was genuinely unpleasant. Still managed to eat it though.Blush. That's really my problem. If food is in front of me I will eat it. I just can't leave food on my plate and hate throwing stuff away.

Anyway, despite the rice pudding fiasco I am .2 kg down from yesterday. Tomorrow will be the final day of week 1. I am down 2.1 kg since last week. Can actually fit into my jeans again already. Snug. But they're on. Grin I've got 5 kg to go.

Good luck everyone.

Not2bObvious · 27/02/2016 07:33

Well done ernest, great losses! Scales is showing my first gain in nearly 2 weeks, .8 of a pound but I am very bunged up and I know that's what it is. I've become a firm believer in the 2-3 litres of water a day MM recommends especially after reading the "whoosh" articles. Yesterday, while I got the water in, I had a period of maybe 4 hours with very little. I think (could be my own silly science) it needs to be spaced out throughout the day to work the best. Feeling dehydrated today already! Doing a 16:8 today, hope to the back of the gain come Monday

Sputnik · 27/02/2016 09:26

Well done Earnest, I was going through my wardrobe too yesterday I've put on a lot over the last few months, but I'm already halfway back to being where I was last summer. Then the real work begins!

800 cals a day is really hard to stick to there are bound to be a few slip ups along the way. That's why I decided to do 2:5, I can have a day off and it's all part of the plan, I don't have to feel like I've gone off the rails or messed up.

zobalina77 · 27/02/2016 09:36

Day 2 here. Yesterday was surprisingly OK. I did adf last year so am used to low calorie days but am expecting today to be much harder. Luckily I'm at work all weekend so I can't snack if I get hungry at around 4 (seems to be my danger time!).

Drank my 3L of water yesterday, but seemed to be on the toilet all day, does this settle when you get used to it?

Cheby · 27/02/2016 11:03

Glad I found this thread, can I join you all? I will go back and read the whole thing but wanted to say hello.

I'm 4 days in (started Tuesday morning). And I'm 3.7kg/8lbs down already. I have what feels like an insurmountable amount to lose; but I'm not trying to think about that right now, just focusing on the first 20kg.

Finding the sugar withdrawals tough going as well as the adjustment to 800kl, but encouraged to see almost 1kg loss every day on the scales. I am making a conscious effort to drink water but is a lot of the loss likely to be water so far?

DH is doing it as well which makes it much easier, but having to feed DD toast and weetabix in the morning is killing me! Smile

lucjam2105 · 27/02/2016 11:03

I was 2 lbs down this morning. Really pleased. Yesterday was ok but I'm sure I'll find it harder today/tomorrow.

Sputnik · 27/02/2016 11:25

Welcome Cheby, some of that will be water yes because it would be impossible to lose that much fat without running a marathon or something, water is held in fat so when you burn the fat water goes too. So for sure some is fat, great start!

Cheby · 27/02/2016 12:11

Thank you. Smile

I've lost a lot of weight in the past (6st) by calorie counting (all back on now though, that was 10 years ago), but I definitely find that losing quickly keeps me better motivated so it feels like this suits me. I need to see the scales moving in the right direction regularly otherwise I lose faith and binge. I'm hoping to do the 8 week diet, then go onto 5:2 for 2/3 months and at least maintain, then try the 8 week diet again, and keep doing that cycle until my weight is such that I can just stay on 5:2.

Incredibly I am not pre diabetic, but given that my BMI is in the 40s I am genuinely shocked that I'm not. I really feel it can only be a matter of time if I don't do something.

lucjam2105 · 27/02/2016 17:29

Hi Chelby, you sound like me. I have a fair bit to loose to and was thinking of doing the 8 weeks followed by 5:2 or 6:1 for a few months and then another 8 weeks. Height is slightly on my side (5ft 8) so my BMI is 37.4. I could do with losing 6 stone but I'd be happy with 4 if I could keep it off. I had a blood sugar test the docs in December because I nearly blacked out after a run, blood sugar was fine.

I've identified 7 days in the next 8 weeks where I have social things I can't get out of so those days I will have to try my hardest and see what happens.

I've not told anyone that I'm doing this yet and would like to keep quiet because I don't want to have to keep justifying it etc etc which is probably going to make those occasions a bit harder.

Good luck

yumyumpoppycat · 27/02/2016 18:42

I'm also not telling anyone (other than dp) people always seem to judge unless you are doing bog standard calorie restriction.

Think I will be under 800 today woo hoo! These are the reasons

  1. worst bit of month over
  2. I logged my dinner in anticipation when I was getting hungry then realised I had no spare calories
  3. I have been using almond milk like Big choc reccomends for hot drinks (do need to use double what I would with normal milk though)
  4. I ate a massive chunk of chilli and couldnt finsih my dinner!
yumyumpoppycat · 27/02/2016 19:53

This is quite interesting www.bodybuilding.com/fun/the-20-best-fat-loss-transformation-foods

Elvish · 27/02/2016 21:07

That is interesting YumYum most of those are in the BSD recipes and recommendations.

I'm feeling very good today as I've managed to resist temptation at the soft play. The only left overs I ate from the kids buffet we carrot and cucumber sticks and I've got enough calories left in my 800 for a glass of red wine.

Not sure if I should really have it, but it's my reward for being so good all week and I'm just having one which is quite a change from the bottle I would have most Saturday nights.

Going to weigh myself tomorrow which will be day 7 of 800 a day. I will be really disappointed if I've not got a decent loss and it will probably knock my confidence in this diet. I'm quite nervous as I really want it to work Confused

HanYOLO · 27/02/2016 21:24

Well done everyone - weekends are harder, surely? Enjoy your wine Elvish

Was all going well but got home from day out ravenous, cold and tired. Cals are in at 987. Alarmed to see my carb intake was so hard - all from fruit and veg - I ate a load of cherries before I'd MFP'd them.

Is there anything in the book about how many carbs per day? Anyone set a target?

Going to try to find some time tomorrow to plan out my meals for the week.

ErnesttheBavarian · 27/02/2016 21:36

Elvis that means we started at the same time. I'm not sure what to expect tomorrow. I feel weirdly fat today but I stuck to 800 and my fitbit has me as being way under call budget cos I did a lot of exercise.

Those people who clock up 15 thousand plus steps, how do you do it if you work? I managed 16k today, but it's a weekend. Mid week is impossible

Elvish · 27/02/2016 21:39

Hi Han, I think veg carbs are fine, as are beans. Fruit is less good as it's more sugar, but still must be better than white bread! From my reading of the book, the 800 is key and the cutting the refined carbs. I'm not measuring mine as I think you need he paid for version of MFP?

Elvish · 27/02/2016 21:40

I do about 3,000 steps a day Ernest, I need ideas of how to fit more in too.

HanYOLO · 27/02/2016 21:47

Well, I had zero refined carbs. Everything else was fresh veg, salad, lentils, and some vegan parmesan (made of coconut oil - better than it sounds). 1000 cals is still way under what I would normally eat, and I did a strong yoga class which MFP reckons was 230 cals. So not a disaster.

I think I am going to have to focus on how to manage a little bit of hunger, till I get used to it.

lucjam2105 · 27/02/2016 21:49

Good luck with your weigh in tomorrow Elvis and Ernest. How much do you hope to have lost?

Is anyone planning on running whilst on this plan. I told a friend about it today, she is on SW and we are always talking diets etc. She said that she was worried that I would have a heart attack if I ran on 800kcals. I told her that people do marathons whilst fasting but she wasn't convinced. I'm desperate to loose weight but need to train for the 10k. Think I might replace some running with walking and maybe eat a bit more if running?

OttiliaVonBCup · 27/02/2016 21:52

I can do up to 22,000 steps in a busy day at work plus walking the dogs.
10,000 is my bare minimum.
