Just wondering if anyone has tried this and how it went? I am about ten days in and coping well so far.

I have been low carbing for years on and off, and on 5:2 since Sept which seems to make the fasting easier.

Well, as a radfem I'd normally be a natural Hilary supporter, but she is so sleazy and so obviously Wall Street's woman that I'm rooting for the Bern.
I would vote for policies, not genitals.

She may help rich women, but her economic and foreign policies are disgraceful, basically neocon with a good PR show.

Bernie would fight for the interests of ordinary Americans, not for the oligarchs & billionaires - I'd expect Trump's interests lie more with the elite. Trump wants lower corporation and income tax - well that mostly helps the rich and big business.

Historically, the US increased prosperity when it had much higher taxes:
Until Reagan, all US governments had a policy of reducing inequality - via a far more progresssive tax system than anything W Europe has seen:

Inheritance tax forthe largest fortunes was 70 - 80% for decades.
From 1930 to 1980 income tax for those with highest US income ($1m+ p.a.) averaged 82%.
It had peaks of 91% in the 1940s - 1960s (Roosevelt to Kennedy), and was still about 70% when Reagan was elected in 1980.

Reagan's tax reform of 1986 ended this longterm progressive tax system and lowered income tax for the highest incomes to 28%.

Oops, pls ignore that - posted on wrong thread Blush Blush

HanYOLO · 25/02/2016 22:44

oops (but very interesting!)

Hi all, am beginning this Blood Sugar Diet (today in fact) as have been overweight for a while and worrying more about the health impacts as I get older (mid 40s now, want this shifted before the menopause hits)

How does everyone find it easiest to keep track of calories?

Is it MFP or bust?

yumyumpoppycat · 26/02/2016 00:16

Eggs your situation is def different to breastfeeding a small baby who needs all their nutrition from their mother's milk, at 2 it is mainly for comfort? I bf 2 of mine until around 2 and 2.5 ish and both times there were no problems when I stopped so I don't think they were getting much milk anyway. Actually stopping breastfeeding can help with weightloss, I think that's partly why I stopped bf dc 3, didn't work that well though as she is now 5 Blush .

The only thing is I am pretty sure on kellymom they used to warn that toxins are released by rapid weight loss and that can end up in the milk....it does seem a bit bonkers though especially as many women naturally lose weight breastfeeding. here is a link maybe big choc will know about the toxin theory's validity! kellymom.com/nutrition/mothers-diet/mom-weightloss/#toofast

yumyumpoppycat · 26/02/2016 00:18

Welcome HanYolo I use MFP, otherwise you can go old school use a pen and paper and jot down info from back of packets.

Sputnik · 26/02/2016 07:41

Welcome Han, I think doing this without MFP or similar would be difficult. It's a bit of a faff at first but once you've got the things you regularly eat in there it's pretty easy. Good luck for day 1!

Bigchoc, I have to agree with you about Hilary, I can't bring myself to like her.

Elvish · 26/02/2016 08:36

I use MFP Han but planned my first week out on paper first so I knew what shopping I needed. I usually menu plan our evening meals anyway so we control what we're spending and don't end up in the take away every night, so it wasn't much different but I planned breakfast and lunch too.

I've been having fairly normal evening meals that DH and I can share, but without carbs for me. So prawn stir fry with noodles for DH, salmon fillets and veg (new potatoes for DH) and so on. This has really worked as I don't want us to be cooking separate meals.

The weekend is going to be a challenge I think, we're at a kids party tomorrow lunch time and I would usually eat something from the cafe (soft play) but there won't be anything without bread. I might have the cheesy beans for brunch and see if I can get through to dinner time on that.

Does anyone know if changing the cheese from mozzarella to cheddar would make a huge difference?

HanYOLO · 26/02/2016 08:50

I guess I will jsut have to try MFP again. I find it such a faff, and I could do without another reason to be piddling about with my phone. I tried it a couple of years ago and found it difficult partly because the things I seem to eat were never on there (vegan/vegetarian tendencies) - also I am the kind of cook that wings it every time and never really stick to recipes. Will give it another go.

The things that will be challenging for me are sorting out meals for kids as they are fussy buggers and love pasta. DH is up for - if not exactly doing this with me - eating as I do for evening meals.

My absolute nemesis though is evening snacking, and picking whilst I cook. I'm going to go and cut up a load of veg sticks, and I am booking as many evening yoga classes as I can to minimise the opportunities to nibble but I know that will be a big challenge - and probably why I need this approach and why the diet will be good for me if I can break the habit.

Sputnik · 26/02/2016 08:55

If you're cooking from scratch then maybe Fitday would be better for you. You'll have to weigh everything out though.

Not2bObvious · 26/02/2016 09:14

han try chewing sf gum while prepping meals maybe? Hard to pop anything in with a mouthful of gum! I love mfp and since around 80% of what I eat is now in my recent foods, it's less faff.
Day 4 of week 2, down another pound to 11.8.2. After years of praying weight would fall off, it's a bit unsettling that it is! Oh I know it won't continue but it's kinda scary Shockand of course excellent as well. 2 weeks and 3 days to the end - then 4 days away. I'm hoping my loss and how it makes me feel will stop me from obliterating the losses as most breaks away do. If I eat a slice of bread or have a few chips will I blow up 😣

HanYOLO · 26/02/2016 09:45

Gum is a v good idea!

I guess I will just have to find the love for MFP

zobalina77 · 26/02/2016 10:04

Hi, I'm starting this today. I had gestational diabetes and my yearly gtt shows I am pre diabetic so I thought I would give this a whirl.

Had my shopping delivered and cleared out my cupboards. I have put all my husband and sons banned food in a separate cupboard for now. So just off to eat my Greek yogurt and berries for breakfast.

lucjam2105 · 26/02/2016 11:03

Hello everyone

I'm joining you. I've been lurking for a week or so. I've not logged into here since hacker issues (I was one of the lucky chosen ones! Had my paypal hacked too).

I got the book yesterday and read through it. Started this morning. Have got a shiney new notebook to keep a diary/food log.

Had 150g greek yog (full fat) this morning. Sat at work now drinking a green tea with fudge fugde tea it's not too bad. We have the gingerbread one to so will give that a try later. got some hummus and veg for lunch. I've not given myself much time to prepare so I'm scrabbling around in the fridge for stuff that is ok to eat.

I'm usually a runner - only short distances up to 10k. I've had an injury though since early Jan so just building up my distance again. Got my next 10k race in April. Even though I'm a runner I'm a very fat runner! Weighed in this morning, rather more than I would like to say!

Anyway, onwards and downwards! Hope everyone is doing ok. My next obstacle will be lunch out on Sunday after my DH has finished the half marathon he is running, then lunch out with work on Wednesday. Can't really get out of either of these, will have to make some good choices and have it maybe as my only meal of the day.

Any thoughts on diet coke etc. I LOVE it, but think I'm going to have to go cold turkey. I know that it doesn't affect some peoples blood sugar but does some and I have no idea how to tell and don't want to mess up my BS by having a coke - not when I've stuck to 800kcals.

HanYOLO · 26/02/2016 11:28

hiya lucjam

I love diet coke too - and in a way I attribute it to why I'm such a podge. MM in the book says its not great and act like sugar in the blood, but then in another section says drink it if it is the only way to stop yourself having calorific drinks. I think I am going to try to break my habit of buying a can for the train when I'm travelling for work, but might still let myself have a glass here and there if out for lunch etc. Tough part of me thinks if I could ditch it for 8 weeks it would be gone from my life forever.

I love green tea though. Drink at least 5 cups per day. There are some lovely flavours - the Twinings cherry bakewell one is good, also Pukka teas for something herbal but without caffeine.

Elvish · 26/02/2016 11:30

Hi lucjam, welcome!

For Sunday lunch could you go somewhere like a carvery? Then you can have meat and pile on the veg and skip any spuds.

We eat out quite a lot and I'm thinking that 2 starters might be easier as they often don't have any cards.

Let us know how you get on Smile

Eggsandketchup · 26/02/2016 12:31

Thanks for the bf advice all! I've read that about toxins in bm before - but I agree that it doesn't seem plausible that it's an actual health risk because people lose weight bfing anyway. There's prob more toxins in the air we breathe. Whatever toxins are.

My ds doesn't get that much milk anyway - he eats well and drinks a lot of water. I'm working on him drinking cows milk!

I started today anyway. Breakfast was a myprotein impact whey protein shake with full fat milk. Lunch is going to be a chicken (100g) salad with 40g cheese and dinner is going to be two large poached eggs with some veg to dip in the yolks

lucjam2105 · 26/02/2016 12:52

Thanks for the welcome. Lunch already booked in a pub where its sunday lunch or nowt! I will have the beef, give DH the yorkshire and the spuds - he'll need the extra calories after running 13 miles!

Lunch on wednesday best options seem to be:

Rump of Lamb
Pan roasted Rump of Lamb, Purple potatoes & a black olive & salsa Verde - ditch the spuds

or

Sussex pork Jowl
Three way pork, braised Jowl, cheek & Crispy ear, apple puree & braising liquor

or chicken ceaser salad

and sparkling water (no diet coke! Grin )

Sputnik · 26/02/2016 13:00

I haven't had any fizzy drinks since I was a teenager, and I'm still a podge! Anyway, from the persepective of someone that doesn't like them I'd say now's your chance to ditch it!

I'm taking stock of my week: this is day 10 for me, lost maybe 2-3 kgs (hard to tell, my scales are crap) I have been exercising too and definitely feel stronger and fitter.

I'm doing 2:5 so the weekend will be a chance to slacken the pace a bit, but I still plan to stay under TDEE. I've also got a glass of wine and some roast sweet potatoes planned for tonight, takes me just over 1000 cals but as I just did a workout and will be going swimming soon I still have a big deficit on the day.

One big plus for me with the online fitness/diet tools is if I input everything beforehand I am far more likely to stick to it, plus you can see your averages, trends, calorie balance etc, I love it! I guess I'm a data nerd.

lucjam2105 · 26/02/2016 13:26

Yep you are right, need to think of something else to have with vodka then after the 8 weeks is up....

mootime · 26/02/2016 14:32

Hi all.
Just had a big bowl of soup so hoping this keeps me going though til supper at 8....
I find the kids food being around a total nightmare. At least I'm quite good at sticking to no starchy carbs so I don't pick at pasta / bread etc, but need to be careful of sneaky bits of sausage etc as they will all add up.
Measured myself this morning and waist is 34 and hips 41.
I'm 5'6 so 1 inch to go off waist before its half my height. Then I need to try to get it under the illusive 30 ....! (Realistically that's at the final goal though as I've always been think of waist.

lucjam2105 · 26/02/2016 17:39

Now I've started posting I can't stop!

Has anyone bought the Hemsley and Hemsley Good +Simple cook book? I ordered it and it arrived today. There are some good recipes, lots of courgetti (which they don't seem to cook - I normally cook it), some lovely looking baking and desserts for after the 8 weeks plus some home made mayo which I'm going to make in a moment. They are very much about natural nutrition.

Obs2016 · 26/02/2016 17:48

Went out for lunch with my mum today: had crabcakes and then crab thermidor. And a glass of wine.

I am so full I can't bear to eat the courgette and bolognese I had planned.

yumyumpoppycat · 26/02/2016 18:40

Have it tomorrow obs? I ended up skipping dinner because I had broken the big rule on this board and snacked on beetroot crckers Blush

ErnesttheBavarian · 26/02/2016 18:52

Well, I sorted my constipation out thanks to a bottle of prune juice.

School dinners was rice pudding with plum compote. I have normally famously got a sweet tooth but it tasted so sweet it was unpleasant to eat. Not an ideal BSD meal either but I was eating with the kids and had to show a good example. Saying that like I said, it was unpleasant, tasted unbearable sweet so I think my taste sensors have shifted a bit already. So I just had the Avacado tuna thing for dinner so hopefully not gone over 800 by my bad lunch. I've no idea how to calculate the cals on a plate of rice pudding with plums.

Obs2016 · 26/02/2016 19:09

Are beetroot crackers crime of the century?
