Just wondering if anyone has tried this and how it went? I am about ten days in and coping well so far.

I have been low carbing for years on and off, and on 5:2 since Sept which seems to make the fasting easier.

Ok I've applied a bit of mindfulness to my nibbling of a cheese slice, pondering did I need it all (in a non judgemental way 😉) and put half it back, progress maybe? Although I did have an orange before it Blush...and a fizzy cola bottleBlushBlush. I'm pretty sure oranges aren't on the plan, or fizzy jellies for that matter, but I was craving one for the last 3 days, maybe it might help with the constipation Sad

Laska5772 · 19/02/2016 19:56

I'm just popping in to record another lb off , so thats 'only' 2 lbs gone this week and I have been sticking to it , . However 'only' 2 is good I think! . you cant expect the fast weight loss to carry on..., im 4 weeks in and have lost 12lbs now.. .. so pleased.. Smile

I hope you are all doing well, I have DF/DB and Dh birthdays to ceelbrate this weekend.. Can I do it without Wine?.. Can I stick to the regime? .. ill do my best .. though we are going out for lunch tomorrow at a really nice place , I think it might be hard to not have any bad carbs (like potato..or Wine Hmm) -though missing dessert will be ok, (I never have those) .. but planning on no breakfast or evening meal..

This is a 'post and run' I'm afraid, but will be back perhaps Sunday but definately Monday..

Please keep fingers crossed for me!

lrb978 · 19/02/2016 20:30

Obs, you can get a tub of pomegranate seeds in Tesco, so you dont have to try and scoop them out yourself. Hope today has been better Flowers

Laska, fingers firmly crossed, and well done on the 12lbs Smile

Not2, but it was only 1 fizzy cola bottle, rather than 1 packet, that has to count for something Smile.

I gave in on the caffeine front today Sad but only as far as a small can of diet coke, which reminded me why I don't drink the stuff. I can safely say it will be on a needs only basis. Otherwise I am sticking to it, although as it is only day 3 I would hope I hadn't fallen off yet. But my big yay is that my belt went a notch lower than yesterday, without any effort Grin (as in, I just did it up then realised it was a notch tighter than usual). I know it will mostly be water, but am feeling a big yay GrinGrin.

Am keeping my carbs below 30 on MFP, but need to up my water intake today, am working on it but have been having a low day today and I always struggle to drink on these days (I normally hit the carbs and chocolate as well, so I am very happy I have kept off them Smile). Roll on tomorrow.

Not2bObvious · 19/02/2016 21:23

Ummm...more like 6 fizzy cola bottles...and they were giant ones. Hanging head in shameful shame😩
Closing the day at just under 1100. Don't even want to look at the carb numbers, they will not be good.
Are tea or coffee no-no's? Oh flip, if they are, I'm in trouble, I drink a lot of tea/coffee but very little milk

lrb978 · 19/02/2016 21:44

DrM does say you can have tea/coffee with a splash of milk, however tea or coffee with a good splash of milk and several spoonfuls of sugar are no-nos Grin, hence the cold turkey. Hopefully I will one day be able to enjoy them with a little splash of milk and no sugar, but in the mean time...

1100 is probably a lot better than before you started though, even 6 giant cola bottles is probably not the equivalent of a bag full (hopeful).

Obs2016 · 20/02/2016 06:57

Well, I've put on 3 lbs since yesterday. Sad I don't normally weigh myself, for as long as possible, so I get a noticeable difference, but I just happened to weigh myself yesterday and today, and this is not good. My blow out was even more damaging than I realised!!

Not2bObvious · 20/02/2016 07:56

Obs please don't take too much notice of the 3lb "gain". You didn't eat 12,000 calories, and if you did you wouldn't see it straight away. It's just bloat from alcohol, salt and waste in your system. I've been on a WL thread for months and the amount of times I've seen this was staggering, and the impact it had on people's mind sets was woeful! If you weigh every day, you will see fluctuations you'd never see than if you hadn't weighed, left it a week the only impact might have been a marginally lower loss or maybe not. Weight loss isn't linear and true gains take time to show. Now lecture/pep talk over. I'm waiting for my "D"H to evacuate the bathroom so I can do my daily weigh. And if my giant jellies put weight on me, I'll be back wailing like a banshee and I'll want talking down from my ledge!
😁

Obs2016 · 20/02/2016 08:44

Thanks Not2b, I will try not to let it get to me, but just persevere.
I made a decision today : I am going to try to be very very strict for the next month. 4 weeks until my best friends Hen Party. That's my target.
I've already lost a stone, let's see if I can lose 2, not necessarily in the next 4 weeks, but the second stone is my next and ultimate target.
Once I got to that, I would just go for maintenance.

Not2bObvious · 20/02/2016 09:04

How long did it take you to lose the stone obs? Was that on this plan?
I'm down 4.6 pounds since Tuesday!!! I'm delighted but also realistic that it won't continue at an average of a pound a day, but like you I have something coming up in a month (well 3.5 weeks now) that I'd really love to be a stone down for. I've only got 9.4 pound to go taking into account the loss so far.

ErnesttheBavarian · 20/02/2016 09:07

Does anyone know if this would be good (or bad) for thyroid problems?

Obs2016 · 20/02/2016 09:53

Yes Not2b. Stone since begin Jan. On this thread. To start with I wasn't very strict, eased into it, then got a bit stricter, then I was very ill with a chest infection, ate nothing (God, I was so ill and my diabetes went mad, which made me feel even ill'er!! ) then back on it, then I had a blow out!!
Quite a saga! Nothing is easy with me, I don't do things by half's!!

But I'm really gonna try. I'm gonna be strict!

Obs2016 · 20/02/2016 09:55

I'm afraid I don't know Ernest. Maybe the others will know. Choc knows an awful lot about the whole thing.

Obs2016 · 20/02/2016 09:57

Talking of which, has anyone seen her? I wanted to thank her because she is brilliant, so knowledgeable, has really helped me so far.

BigChocFrenzy · 20/02/2016 10:44

Congrats on your SV, Moo, Browndog
Your waist NSV is excellent, Browndog This 8 weeks should give you a real boost, then you could maybe go to 5:2 BSD to continue longer term and reach your goals.

Constipation: If you are eating beans, pulses and plenty of non-starchy veg every day you should be getting enough fibre, even on 800 cals.
However, you'll be obtaining less water from it.

DRINK WATER - Dr M says aim for over 2 litres per day

Not2b The BSD book has no specific carb grams target, just specifies cutting out all starches except beans & pulses.
Since it is low carb, I recommended up thread aiming within 50g on the 800 days and for those doing 5:2 BSD, to stay within 100g for the NFDs.

Non-starchy veg have so few carbs or cals (without oil, dip or sauce) and are so healthy that I suggest freely filling up on them when hungry

Obs2016 · 20/02/2016 14:02

Choc!!! Grin

Interesting about the constipation because I am a bit and have never ever had this problem before. Normally I am regular, easy, zero problem. So this is very odd.

I thought I was drinking tonnes, but maybe I'm not?

BigChocFrenzy · 20/02/2016 14:32

Phew, I hope you feel much better after that torrid start to the year, obs

Ernest DrM has listed the conditions that may require caution with the BSD, or are helped, but thyroid isn't mentioned. So, probably not affected either way.
If your condition makes it difficult to lose weight, you are pretty certain to lose on the BSD 8-week plan, if you follow the rules reasonably well.

BigChocFrenzy · 20/02/2016 14:34

lrb DrM suggests Stevia if you need sweetness in drinks.
I recommend almond milk, almost no cals or carbs. Good taste, imo.

mootime · 20/02/2016 18:12

Hi all. I'm doing 5:2 BSD and trying to convert my T2D mum. She really doesn't think she could do the 800 cals (I think she should tryGrin. Would this diet work if she just did the low carb Mediterranean? I'm not even sure she fancies the 5:2 version but I really think this Woe could be really good for her.

Had a couple of trickier days here but not terrible. Def not 800 cals (and neither will tomorrow be. But low carb and well within TDEE). Going to try to do 800 cals mon- Thursday next week so will see how it goes.

ErnesttheBavarian · 20/02/2016 19:09

Thanks. If i may ask quick Q about his book - does it have a comprehensive meal plan in it? Does it tell you exactly what to eat and when for say at least 2 weeks? Or is it just theory and guidelines?

yumyumpoppycat · 20/02/2016 19:28

Hi Ernest there is a 4 week plan, Big choc put screen shots of the menu up a couple of pages ago.

Like others yesterday I have struggled today, think it's soon totm for me. Hopefully we are all On It next week!

yumyumpoppycat · 20/02/2016 19:30

Mootime here is a link to the Mplan might be a good place for your mum to start thebloodsugardiet.com/the-low-carb-plan/

lrb978 · 20/02/2016 20:44

Thanks bigchoc, I will think about that. I struggle with changes to expected taste, it may be something I can tolerate, but I may not. I have a friend who drink almond milk so I will try and try some and see how I get on.

Finishing on 750 cals today, unless I need something later but its doubtful. Still struggling with drinking though, only just over 1l at present but will get more in between now and bedtime.

BigChocFrenzy · 20/02/2016 23:11

Moo The BSD Maintenance would be healthier for your mum, presuming her current plan is high carb low fat, or just too much sugary junk.
However, it is um, maintenance, i.e. she might not lose any weight.

Why not ease her in gently to 5:2 BSD, with 2 x 1000 or even 2 x 1200 cal days and gradually reduce to 800 cal FDs.

BigChocFrenzy · 20/02/2016 23:15

Ernest Scroll back a couple of pages to see my screenshots of the 4 week example mealplan in the BSD book.
You just need 2-3 low carb BSD meals per day of 2-400 cals, no snacks.

His site has useful sections on BSD Plan and Recipes

Breadandwine · 21/02/2016 01:13

set your tastebuds to binge mode

As a vegan, I have a sure-fire way to halt a binge in its tracks - a teaspoon of 'nooch'.

That's nutritional yeast to the uninitiated - made by Engervita, it's £2.99 in my local HFS.

It has many other uses, it's full of flavour and is low on calories - a heaped dessertspoon is only 17 cals. I use it on a bolognaise sauce instead of parmesan - I sprinkle it on pizzas instead of cheese. It's very versatile.

Back to binging on sweet stuff - if you've had one chocolate or the whole bar, one biscuit or half a packet, a teaspoon of nooch will reset your tastebuds instantly.

I don't always, but I have in the past, taken one biscuit out of the packet, put the tub of nooch close to hand, had the biscuit, then straightaway had a teaspoon of nooch.

I'm posting about this today since this morning my daughter confirmed everything I've said.

BTW, to halt a binge on savoury stuff, I've found half a square of dark chocolate does the trick - but I have no confirmation of this! Grin

HTH!
