Laska42 · 21/07/2014 18:14

Hi there, Im one of the 'old original' 5:2ers who started way back in August 2012 and lost 24lbs..

I maintained for over a year and was active on the Maintainers thread , but sadly since last summer/Autumn, ive backslid.. Now I'm 12lbs up off my lowest weight again Sad

I know what to do , I know it works , but I can hardly say I should be on the 'maintainers' again. So im posting a new thread here , in the hope that I may find some other backsliders willing to recommit along with me before it's too late ..

Come and join me again before its too late.. We can regroup and get back on track.. I'm still managing to squeeze into my sz 10s (mostly) but I cant afford a new wardrobe, I dont want to buy a larger one.. and I certainly do want to get back to what I was (and maybe finish the job properly with another half stone off , so I can rejoin the Maintainers and comfortably say that this WOE is really this time going to stay with me for life..

So anyone with me? .. I have fasted today (first one for ages) .. WE CAN DO IT AGAIN!!

Thanks Laska, you're right, this is a great place to support each other :)

Good luck for your FD tomorrow! I have to say, having completed mine I feel GREAT, mentally and physically - we just need to remember that feeling throughout the day Smile

Not2bObvious · 19/08/2014 13:28

Well I survived, but have to admit to a couple of sucky sweets towards the end, brought the FD in at around 600. Had a sneaky peek at the scales and I'm nearly .5 of a pound lighter than FridayGrin If I can add another .5 to that after Thursday I'll be v happy. Tried on my trousers (infamous trousers) again, I can button them and thru stay buttoned but they still look a bit lot snug. If I keep going the way I have, they should be wearable by next Tuesday! Scales is one thing but true test has got to be clothes.
How's your fast going Laska?

Laska42 · 19/08/2014 13:59

hi well not quite all day without food, but managed up until just now but had a packet of the M&S teriyaki beef salad bites (in mooli ribbons) really nice actually and 192 cals..

this eveing ill be having a bit of the left over casserole sauce with maybe just a little shredded chicken breast (sauce has carrots onions celery tomatoes and is unthickened) on some home grown steamed courgettes and runner beans ) ..so reckon ill be just under the 500 .

If i can do that then il be happy

PiesnThighs · 19/08/2014 20:32

Well done both of you Smile

I agree, how your clothes fit (or not) is the real test. Especially when you can't afford to replace your entire wardrobe!

I've been on NFD today but have been so busy at work, I haven't overeaten. Good week so far!

Chocupid · 19/08/2014 21:29

Glad your back pies Good for you for getting one under your belt! a successful FD makes you feel sooo much better doesn't it!

It was a NFD for me today I have stomach ache and feel bloated and sick, hope it's not a bug but if I feel like this tomorrow I may try a fast... May as well take advantage of the rare occurrence when I don't want food. Grin

Blackhandbag · 19/08/2014 22:16

Hello, I will join you all. Mi didn't post much but religiously followed the threads since January 2013, fasted twice a week for over a year but have been very sporadic about it for the least few months and the weight is creeping back on.

Just had a fast day today, came in at 600 cals but I'm ok with that. I just had a delicious broccoli masala curry and remembered how good fast days can be! Food never tastes as good as when you are really hungry for it and keeping low in calories makes me much more creative!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feel off the 5:2 wagon, it's nice to read through the posts.

Good luck to those fasting tomorrow.

PiesnThighs · 20/08/2014 19:31

Choc hope your stomach has settled and it wasn't a bug Sad.

I've managed (well, I am in the process of managing) another FD today! And I might even try for another one on Friday, just to really get a result on the scales next week...

Does anyone here every do 3 fast days in a week? I've never tried it before.

Hope those of you fasting have had a good one today Smile

Not2bObvious · 20/08/2014 20:14

I did a couple of weeks 4:3 last year, found it a bit tough tbh and I think it made me eat more the other days so no result but it's worth a try pies, your experience could be more positive. I prefer 5:2 with a mini fast (1000) or maybe a couple of 16:8's which reduce my cals by about 25%. I did a 16:8 and was attempting a mini fast but I had a hard day, I have enough cals to have a bar of choc so that's what I'm doing. Not the best behaviour but I resisted a take away so that's my self control stretched enough. FD tomorrow, not best prepared so I'm going to do my lazy FD which consists of popcorn for lunch and lots of black tea, chicken breast & corn on the cob for dinner. Maybe a hot choc before bed, that'll do it.
Who's joining me tomorrow?

PiesnThighs · 20/08/2014 21:12

Thanks Not2b, I might give 4:3 a go this week but I don't imagine I'd manage it on an ongoing basis.

Do you mean you do 16:8 on non fast days? I guess I could try that too, while I'm feeling motivated!

Your FD menu plan sounds a bit like mine.... But the reason I do 5:2 is so I don't really have to put a lot of thought into it! So anything that makes up 500cals (600 if I'm honest) is fine by me Smile

Not2bObvious · 20/08/2014 21:53

Yep, usually Wednesday & Sundays are 16:8 days, Wednesday cause I'm usually full enough from my nfd on Tuesday that I have enough in the tank to last til lunch and Sunday cause I like to have a good read huge lunch Grin
Of course I say I do these things , more like I did these things when I was doing really good but I'm working on getting back into that swing. I reckon hose days were what bought me a bit of flexibility and kept the worst of the weight off for about 10 months. Think it also whittled away an extra .5-1 pound a month, stealth slimming Wink

Chocupid · 20/08/2014 22:28

Hi all,
I felt fine today thanks pies'you sound focused at the mo! I'd make the most of it if I were you.

I didn't mean to fast today but turned out to be an easy one as I was soo busy, so I may try another tomorow or Friday.

I tried 4:3 last year but same as not2b it made me over eat on NFDs too.

Laska how are you doing, you back on track now?

PiesnThighs · 21/08/2014 06:32

Choc, accidental fast days are the best!

Well the jury is out on whether I'll do another FD tomorrow, just stood on my scales after yesterday's fast and I haven't lost anything... Haven't been very active this week so I wonder if my metabolism has taken a hit?

Anyway, good luck to those fasting today!

Not2bObvious · 21/08/2014 12:21

45 mins to lunch - feeling fine so far. My scales isn't moving either Pies, hope to see a small change tomorrow. Employing my FD methodology of tight clothes (trews that wouldn't have fit 3 weeks ago, prob wouldn't have got them over my chubby kneesGrin)
Looking forward to having today done - how's everyone else?

Chocupid · 22/08/2014 08:47

Morning all...
I'm still 9.11 after a good week of exercise and 2 successful fasts, no blow out meals on NFDs Angry

Today I EAT! Grin

Hope your scales are kinder.

Not2bObvious · 22/08/2014 09:10

Scales were very kind, 2.2 downGrin So that's 8.2 pound down in 6 fasts!!!! Thrilled altogether, but back into the trouble spot weekends. Haven't had brekkie yet as running around with the kids getting them ready for camp, few hours work then a 40 minute run before collecting them. Will get another couple of runs in.
Chocupid was it last week you dropped 2? Where are you on the bmi side of things? Could just be slowing down as you've very little to lose. I still have at least a stone to go (I don't know if I'll ever make it tbh, can't remember being under 11 stone in my adult life)
Hmm, what to have for brekkieGrin Poached egg and brown toast appeals. Happy Friday y 'all

Laska42 · 22/08/2014 12:21

not 2b thats fantastic..

ok confession time... ive lost NOTHING! since weve started this thread ( well 2lbs whichi put back on) , but then ive not been fasting properly.. I really dont seem to be able to get back into it at all. and if im honest ive been like this for about a year now, just trundling along and gradually ( and it has been gradually) ive regained.. Im only 10lbs up from my lowest , but why cant i just get back into it .. ?

I'm nearly 57 , and i really hate , hate exercise.. thats a factor i know, but one i also know wont change .. ive tried so many times and dont keep exercise routines up - i'm happiest walking, gardening and slumping around with a book..

Im not a big overeater , and i dont snack but i do love Wine and cheese rather than sweet things or cakes and biscuits.. I never eat chips and hardly ever potatoes ,( but i do eat crisps sometimes) .. I have cut down on carbs and i love vegetables .,. so on the whole im quite good . However I really would rather be a few pounds up than i could be rather than exercise.. (but not this many pounds up .. )

It was working, I was maintaining at 10st by fasting , but im not even doing that now

I need help to get back into it .. . Sad

BTW im not looking for sympathy .. I KNOW i have to do something.. ..
I'm just venting and I do know that i just need to get my head into the right space again.. (and also that its no point having an 'Its not fair' tantrum!! Smile

mollysfolly · 22/08/2014 12:29

Today is my 2nd 5:2 anniversary! I am still only half a stone less than I was then. I would so love to lose another stone but can't see it when 2 days fasting a week is just helping me maintain. I am missing my kettlebells class and finding it hard to get motivated to do the DVD.

Anyway to celebrate in fasting fashion I have had some delicious field mushroom soup for lunch, and have roast chicken planned for this evening.

There must be another couple of anniversary people out there? Smile

Not2bObvious · 22/08/2014 14:08

Laska I know exactly what you mean, fasting is really really hard if you're not "feeling" it - and when I started to drift off the rails, I had this rebellious streak that kept saying why shouldn't I eat, I want to eat and drink lots of wine
My best advice would be to aim for 2 mini fasts and a bit of activity where you can. Allow yourself 1000 cals and if that works, next fast drop it by 50, and so on. You'll get there, but slow and easy might get you back on track. You really helped me by starting this thread, don't give up Wink

kinkymouse · 22/08/2014 17:35

Can I join you all. I stopped 5:2 during our kitchen refurb in June and with holidays, birthdays and a whole heap of procrastination I never managed to start again. I had a brief dalliance with low carbing but really not my thing.

So today on my second fast day and I'm out to the cinema and foid later. I've only had water so far and just had a look at pizza express and zizzis both do under 500 calorie salads or pizza. Yey.

I'm hoping for a stone off for christmas.

Not2bObvious · 23/08/2014 16:21

Welcome KinkyMouse - not sure how much you have to lose but a stone sounds very doable (unless you're already under healthy bmi?) Hopefully I can join you as a stone by Christmas would be brilliant for me too. Well, Friday night or should I rename it Feast night, went a bit mental. Bit over 2100 cals but in saying that fitbit calculated I burned 2000 so that's ok. Managed a 3.5 mile walk/jog/run in around 36 mins so very pleased with myself but it's sad how few cals it actually burns. But since I don't rely on exercise to lose weight, then I should care should I?
Very bubbly this avo, couple of choccie bics and lump of chocolate fell in my gob, how'd that happenBlush I also had a McD's (shameful I know) but figured the ideal meal, fillet'o'fish, no cheese, half the fries, donate the other half to himself - 500 cals or about. Gosh still sounds like a lot but better that 800-1000 in the past. And you know what, it was lovely!
How's everyone doing?

Not2bObvious · 23/08/2014 16:23

shouldn't care & nibbly not bubbly although would love some bubblyGrin Damn phone....

kinkymouse · 23/08/2014 16:50

Bmi is 24.1 but I'm so small framed so look very chubby at 9st 7. I'm much happier at 8.7. But I'm looking at this as a forever woe so if it takes a while so be it. I might just need a cheering along if it starts to stall.

Not2bObvious · 23/08/2014 19:42

KinkyMouse (that feels distinctly odd to type!) when you were 8.7 was that pre dc or when you were a teenager etc? The reason I ask is at a certain stage on life the number doesn't fit the person, remember the choosing your face or your figure, so 8.7 might sound great but mightn't work with you now - or it might, if what I mentioned before doesn't apply. If it does apply maybe 9 stone would be a better aim? Apologies if I'm off the mark.
In other news, just had a chinese, yummy Grin

kinkymouse · 24/08/2014 11:58

I was a teeny 7.7 before dc and 8.7 after dc but before my thyroid broke. I am comfortable at 9 and if I do stall there so be it.
