Hi there, Im one of the 'old original' 5:2ers who started way back in August 2012 and lost 24lbs..

I maintained for over a year and was active on the Maintainers thread , but sadly since last summer/Autumn, ive backslid.. Now I'm 12lbs up off my lowest weight again Sad

I know what to do , I know it works , but I can hardly say I should be on the 'maintainers' again. So im posting a new thread here , in the hope that I may find some other backsliders willing to recommit along with me before it's too late ..

Come and join me again before its too late.. We can regroup and get back on track.. I'm still managing to squeeze into my sz 10s (mostly) but I cant afford a new wardrobe, I dont want to buy a larger one.. and I certainly do want to get back to what I was (and maybe finish the job properly with another half stone off , so I can rejoin the Maintainers and comfortably say that this WOE is really this time going to stay with me for life..

So anyone with me? .. I have fasted today (first one for ages) .. WE CAN DO IT AGAIN!!

well done jack - you've made us all realise we just need to bite the bullet and get on with it :-)

headintheclouds · 29/09/2014 23:19

itsa what an absolute nightmare you seem to have gone through! Well done for picking it back up.
I didnt have as valid a reason for losing my mojo- just got lazy really after my summer holiday this year, but I've been back with the gang and fasting again for a week.I weigh- in on Fridays and was 2 lbs down after first week.( but was very slow to lose first time around so I expect it to be a bit slower this week. I'd like to lose 8 lbs by Xmas, then I'll be back to my target & comfortable .
FD for me today and it was a good one with the Laska curry for my evening meal ( Luckily I've been able to still stick with fluids only all day and have my 500 cals for my evening meal.)

CheesyBadger · 29/09/2014 23:22

Hello! Will join you! Trying to get back on it after stopping last year. Lost around 18lbs and found it enjoyable and I felt so good. Need reminding of fasting joy!

Chocupid · 30/09/2014 08:36

Well done jack it feels good when you have a successful fast under your belt doesn't it?
and welcome badger (didn't want to call you cheesy!).
I do too, and also need reminding how nice it feels not to have to hold your tummy in when out, and wear all my nice clothes, and and and....

Fast day for me today, anyone else?

bbcessex · 30/09/2014 09:28

just a quickie - weighed in today and lost 4lbs.. happy with that, good start for week 1. Just need to keep it up now :-)

happy FD & NFD's everyone, catch up later.

ItsaboatJack · 30/09/2014 19:47

Well done on 4lb loss bbc. That's great.

I had a good NFD today, MFP has me at about 1900 cals. Another FD planned for tomorrow, feeling very positive.

StarsInTheNightSky · 01/10/2014 08:28

Hello, can join in please? I was a lurker on the 2012 thread and lost three stone for my wedding but then recurrent second tri miscarriage meant I fell off the wagon. We now have a beautiful (and ginormous) 5 month old DS, but spending pregnancy in and out of hospital with lots of complications and on strict bed rest wasn't great, I had hyperemesis for most of the nine months too, so I got used to eating the highest calorie food possible and of finding ways to increase the calories in everything.
Stupidly I kept eating that way after DS was born, but I was still on an exercise ban because of complications from the c section. The consultant lifted the exercise ban yesterday so I've decided to give myself a kick up the rear. I am still in maternity clothes feeling like a blob, the diastasis and bad scarring from PUPPS are not helping my body image but in two weeks DH, DS and I are meeting up with two sets of friends who have babies of a similar age and who we haven't seen since DS was born, so that's given me some motivation! I'm doing my first FD today.

ItsaboatJack · 01/10/2014 08:39

Hi stars. Congratulations on your baby. It's sounds like you've been through the mill a bit there.

I'm on an FD today too.

StarsInTheNightSky · 01/10/2014 08:59

Thanks Jack it hasn't been best of times but DS is amazing and we're very lucky to have him, can't help wish it didn't put my body quite so much through the mangle though!
Good, hopefully thinking of you fasting will strengthen my resolve!
I'm not cutting out caffeine this time as I don't think I'd get through the days, especially as DS is teething so up quite a bit in the night, but I'm making sure I drink lots of green tea and water.

Fillybuster · 01/10/2014 11:44

Another lapsed-maintainer looking for a new home, I think...I just posted on the maintainers thread (where I've been hanging out for the past year or so), then re-read my post (copied below) and realised I need to change up a bit....all help and encouragement (and kicks up the backside) would be warmly welcomed Grin

"Still haven't managed a proper fast - it's been weeks now. Even when I do fast, I end up eating way too much at the end for one reason or another. Been stuck 9.6-9.9 for weeks, when I really want to be hanging out 9.3-9.5.

Monday was a FD, then my manager took me out for lunch. Really nice Turkish. Yum, and necessary: there's some bad shit going down in our team.

Yesterday (Tuesday) tried FD again. Then at 12 got a text from a super-senior chap I met a few months back offering to take me out for 'lunch and a chat'. Really need to network (due to bad shit in team) so back to really nice Turkish. Yum, and again, necessary, but oh dear. Just had soup for supper, so impact not too bad. Scales still at 9.7 this morning.

Today: trying again. But wfh and feeling pre-tom, so finding it oh-so-much-harder than a busy day in the office. And feeling pretty crappy still, too.

So disappointed with myself, but really feeling like I've totally lost my mojo...:( "

So, time to get this sorted, right?

bbcessex · 01/10/2014 14:32

hi Fillybuster - not surprised you've struggled with all those work lunches going on.. sounds like you're doing great to be honest.. you can't really say no to things like that when they're need. Just a couple of FDs a week for a month or so should have you back where you want to be.

Starsinthenightysky OMG. Shock What a tough time you've had. I should think the FDs will be the easiest thing you've done for a while, by the looks of it. Hats of to you (and to ginormous DS!).

bbcessex · 01/10/2014 14:36

'hats off'. Not 'hats of'. Hats of what?, I hear you ask!

ItsaboatJack · 01/10/2014 18:58

How's everyones fd's gone? I had a bit of a struggle early afternoon but managed to push through with a mug of boullion.

bbcessex · 02/10/2014 08:50

Well done itsaboatjack - that's great, sounds like you've cracked it!

My FD went well too. Actually found I wasn't even really that hungry (must be ill!).

I am really enjoying feeling in control. Even if I 'only' loose a pound a week, that's still nearly a stone by Christmas.. which would have been a stone ON by Christmas if I hadn't caught this thread again :-)

Good luck ladies and gents.

bbcessex · 02/10/2014 08:51

loose? gahhh. Lose. :-)

ARGHtoAHHH · 02/10/2014 08:56

Hello can I join please?

I lost over a stone before summer doing this diet. A couple of holidays and lots of summer cider, I fell completely off the wagon. Can feel the weight creeping back on.

Started again on Tues, did really well. Today is supposed to be my day 2 fasting, but my toddler is sick, and I was up all night with him. I've already had 2 slices of toast.

Is there any point doing the fasting today? I've already messed it up haven't I?

Sorry don't have time to look through entire thread! Will do tonight if my boy gets down to sleep., ever.

MelanieCheeks · 02/10/2014 14:18

How are you calorie wise so far? If you think you can make it through anywhere under 700, I'd call it a fast day.
Now then, how many calories are there in my satsuma peel, d'you reckon?

ARGHtoAHHH · 02/10/2014 14:25

Oh, I thought I was only allowed 500 calories? Think I've fucked up anyway, on 4th slice of toast. How many calories do you think? Including lots of butter and marmalade Grin

Dotty342kids · 02/10/2014 14:34

itsaboatjack Hello!!!! Smile, oh we used to chat loads over on the main thread so it's so lovely to see you here.

Been absent / just really busy for a week or so. Still not got back into fasting properly so had a good chat with DH about it a couple of days ago and he's keen to get back to doing it properly too so that will definitely help.

I've realised that it's having nice things in the cupboards for the kids' packed lunches, and being on my own during FD evenings (DH works away a lot) that really scupper me.
So, plans are to only buy what will last the kids for the week (if I eat it, there'll be nothing left for lunchboxes!) and to refind my evening distraction techniques (baths, painting nails etc).

What do you all find is the thing that "breaks" you and what strategies do you put in place to combat it?

ARGHtoAHHH · 02/10/2014 14:38

I find a bit of pampering in the evening does wonders to stave off any hunger pangs. A hot bath or do my nails or whatever, and make sure to brush teeth. Clean teeth always puts me off eating

Then bed early, if you're asleep, you can't think about food!

Any other suggestions gratefully received.

Dotty342kids · 02/10/2014 15:47

ooh yes, brushing teeth is a great idea, thanks! I like the idea of early bed but when DH is away I tend to enjoy catching up on all the telly I've recorded (that he doesn't like) so that necessitates being downstairs Smile

ARGHtoAHHH · 02/10/2014 15:53

Hmm. TV watching, for me, goes hand in hand with snacking. That would be a difficult one for me. Maybe I would do my nails while watching? Or do you knit? I think just doing something with your hands would help.

ItsaboatJack · 02/10/2014 18:25

Hi Dotty

Evenings are most definitely the hardest times. Either I'm at work in the pub and I'm tempted to have a glass of wine. Or if I'm off, I'm sitting upstairs watching tv and tempted to snack. Especially if I doze a bit, when I wake up I'm really hungry. I can't go to bed early though as I'm always on call for the pub.

I'm afraid I don't have the answers yet though, if I did I wouldn't be on the rescinder's thread Grin

Well I had a pretty good NFD today. I was out at a meeting, lots of biscuits on the table, and a buffet lunch. I avoided the biscuits but did pick a bit too much at the buffet, rather than take a plate of food and then move away from the food. What is it about food that's right in front of you? It's like it actually jumps into your mouth all on its own. Overall though I'm pretty sure it was about TDEE for the day.

I'm going for a third FD tomorrow, and if I manage that ok I'm going to treat us to an Indian at the weekend.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 03/10/2014 02:50

Hi everyone. Sorry if i miss a post, vision a bit blurry (just been up with dd)

Managed second fast of the week yesterday (thursday)
It was tough, at home with DCs (i find it easier at work tbh) but lots of coffee and one little chicken salad and felt great going to bed.

itsaboatjack buffets are a horror. As are picnics!
Sorry you've had such a tough time. Brew

Argh buttered toast and marmalade

starsinthenightsky ((hugs)) and welcome.

Well done bbc

Its a struggle at times. Difficult to fast when tired or with certain stresses. Difficult if had wine the day before.
Tough when preparing food for the family
Things that help:

"Its just one day. I can eat tomorrow"
Exercise (just walking with pram/ DCs)
Warm drinks
I try to eat nothing. Just have the milk in tea and coffee. But allow for soup or salad in the afternoon/ evening if i cant bear it.
Distraction.
Visualising pulling on my jeans with ease
Remembering how centred and light i feel the morning after a fast day.

ARGHtoAHHH · 03/10/2014 07:00

Morning all

going to fast today seeing as it all went to pot yesterday.

TheRealAmandaClarke don't know how you do it when you're at home, I find it impossible. Thank you for that list, I will re read it Later when I'm hungry to remind me why I'm doing it.

I'm working today so that makes it easier. Although it'll be hard to refuse going for a drink after work. It's rubbish fasting on a Friday.
