Laska42 · 21/07/2014 18:14

Hi there, Im one of the 'old original' 5:2ers who started way back in August 2012 and lost 24lbs..

I maintained for over a year and was active on the Maintainers thread , but sadly since last summer/Autumn, ive backslid.. Now I'm 12lbs up off my lowest weight again Sad

I know what to do , I know it works , but I can hardly say I should be on the 'maintainers' again. So im posting a new thread here , in the hope that I may find some other backsliders willing to recommit along with me before it's too late ..

Come and join me again before its too late.. We can regroup and get back on track.. I'm still managing to squeeze into my sz 10s (mostly) but I cant afford a new wardrobe, I dont want to buy a larger one.. and I certainly do want to get back to what I was (and maybe finish the job properly with another half stone off , so I can rejoin the Maintainers and comfortably say that this WOE is really this time going to stay with me for life..

So anyone with me? .. I have fasted today (first one for ages) .. WE CAN DO IT AGAIN!!

Well done melanie

Right just remembered... stats:
22nd July: weight 9.13
Bust 37.5
Waist 29
Hips 39.5

19th Sept: weight 9.11 (back up from 9.9 last week Shock)
Bust 36
Waist 29
Hips 38

So I'm disappointed as it's took me 2months to lose 2lb and 2 miserable inches...

I'm thinking the only way to lose more is restrict more calories on NFD which is then like any other diet, so I'm going to continue to fast for the health benefits and it obviously works for maintenance as I haven't lost much but haven't gained either Grin

But unfortunately It looks like I'm back to the traditional diet as I'm desperate for weight loss now, I could have lost that stone by now if I had just dieted..... hope you all have better success than me!

MelanieCheeks · 19/09/2014 18:36

Could you REALLy have lost a stone using conventional methods? You dont have much to lose, so half a pound a week is the most you should be hoping for.

You've lost -and given the fluctutalions on this diet, and you were lower last week, I wouldnt give up yet! Try to take a long term view.

Not2bObvious · 19/09/2014 19:50

That's 3 inches by my maths Chocupid - I honestly don't think it's shabby at all! And if you've fluctuated from last week with no real reason, then you may have some, ahem, waste in your system and your waist might be a smidge smaller? I tried on a dress today and if I'd been 1.5 inches slimmer in the hip area the 12 would have fitted instead of needing the 14.
C'mon you can do this, give it another month at full tilt, bit of calorie counting on nfd's. Anythings better than points/syns/restricting carbs and all the other jazz.
Sez she who's a human yo yo! 11.11.6 this morning, in 4 days of cutting back I've worked down from 12.3.8, which I'm pretty sure isn't possible. I think the 12+ was bloat etc. and the real gain was around 3 pound, dropping a pound over the week through 16:8 mini fasts. So I'm happy with that. Let's have a good but not too good/figure destroying weekend, you with me solidersWink?

Dotty342kids · 22/09/2014 14:31

Still here with you Smile and well done to MelanieCheeks, that's brilliant news!

Nothing shifting here and was distinctly unhappy with my reflection in the mirror at dance class this morning as it wobbled back at me. Why is it so hard to refind motivation once you've lost it? I swear, 5:2 was the easiest thing I'd ever done last year. This year = disastrous Sad

headintheclouds · 22/09/2014 16:15

hi dotty I'm with you on the motivation thing??it is hard to get your groove back isn't it.? I too have fallen off the wagon..AND I joined this thread a couple of months ago and fell off again - am now 10 lbs up on my goal weight .
Today I've been fasting and like you I need to do all the NFD tracking on my MFP , because I definitely overheat on those days.
we know it works ..so keep on with it .i will if you will!!

Not2bObvious · 23/09/2014 08:49

Morning all. How we all doing? Mini fast yesterday and 16:8 today. Just a quick check in to say hi!

Dotty342kids · 23/09/2014 09:34

Oh, yesterday was going so well until after tea when .......... well I can't disclose what I ate but it would put a bulimic to shame Blush

headintheclouds, this just can't continue. Trousers which were baggy on me last year are now fitting normally again so there's no kidding myself about the situation!

Right, we've got 12 weeks till Christmas which should be enough to lose a good six pounds at least. Let's try and crack this and get ourselves sorted.
It's MFP, a ban on chocolate and cakes in the house (because I know I have no willpower) and some serious effort Grin

bbcessex · 23/09/2014 10:45

Hi all, hope it's okay to join you. I'm not officially a backslider, as I never did as well as you guys in the first place; maybe 1.5 stone off, which I was happy with at the time.

That said - I know that this WOL can and does work for me, so I'm going to get back in to it and use this thread for motivation.

Got on the scales this morning:

I'm 5'4, and today weigh 14stone 3lbs. OMG OMG OMG. But I knew it anyway - and it's good to finally face the music.

So - my downfall is pretty much wine most nights, which kicks off the urge for crisps / chocolate etc.

I am going to have to restrict the wine to weeks and events only. I love it but it doesn't work for me and the weight is having an impact on my working and family life.

I will keep an eye on this thread for motivation :-)

plecofjustice · 23/09/2014 11:46

Hi BBC, wine is my downfall too. I'm being much more strict with myself and only allowing myself to drink 2 nights a week. I realised that it wasn't the alcohol really, but the taste I liked, so I've made sure I've got slimline tonic in the house, lime cordial, no-alcohol cider, no alcohol lager.

bbcessex · 23/09/2014 12:03

good suggestion, plecofjustice - I think finding an alternative for a 'wind-down- drink is a great idea.. hmmmm... good plan!

MelanieCheeks · 23/09/2014 14:45

Hi gang.

I've decided to try a 2 day back-to-back approach this week, due to other committments. I'm in the afternoon of the second day and it's going ermarkably well! Tummy is a bit rumbly, but I know I can cope with that. The thought of having my fast days done and dusted for the week is rather appealing - though if I feel like it I may throw in a mini-fast on Friday.

Dotty342kids · 23/09/2014 17:34

I can see why that's appealing Melanie and I admire the dedication of two days together!

bbcessex · 24/09/2014 10:55

Morning all... how did the back to back go Melanie - I haven't done one of those yet.. eek.

Managed to get through my NFD with no wine in the evening.. that's a first!

FD today.. I don't find them as hard as the NFDs.

Even though it's only the first week of starting again, I already feel much happier being back in control (sort of) :-)

Keeping track of everyone's inspirations.. my first weigh in will be next Tuesday - will post the results, good or bad!

MelanieCheeks · 24/09/2014 13:32

D'you know, it was fine. I actually felt very good, almost euphoric. I understand that can be an effect of fasting. I had the odd tummy rumble, but it was nothing I couldn't handle. I didn't go mad on the evening of Day 2 - though I had a cup of tea and a biscuit at Scottish dancing. I slept fine, and I wasn't ravenous come breakfast time on Day 3 - enjoyed my yoghurt and home made granola. Weighed myself this morning - 134.6. Down about half a pound from last week, which is fine, I'll take any loss [biggrin]

I'd said this was a one off trial, just due to circumstances this week. But actually, I could see this being the norm. DH's son stays with us on Mon and Tues - he has special needs, and a limited diet, so we're making different meals those days anyway.

raspberryripple43 · 24/09/2014 22:29

Hi Laska et al - just to say I was on original thread (can't remember name though - starlady I think) I'm back on. x

bbcessex · 25/09/2014 07:56

Morning all.. I can't believe that it's Thursday and I'm feeling better already after just 4 days of re-committing!

woo hoo.

Does anyone have a weight loss to report (can't help it, I love a weight loss - I'm so 80's!).

dizhin79 · 25/09/2014 22:10

waves at Essex, blimey we started this together a couple of months ago! Grin

I'm recommitting too! well hoping to at least, gained 7lb that I had lost so back on the sensible wagon, especially as we have the festive season loomingConfused

ClaireFraser · 25/09/2014 22:59

This fell off TIO when. MN had the mobile re-jig.

I have had some half hearted fast days since I last posted. We've just booked a 5 week honeymoon to New Zealand in 6.5weeks time. I am determined to have lost that final pesky half stone by the time we go!!

Fast day tomorrow me thinks! Does anyone have any good suggestions for a fast day evening meal that my DH will also want to eat (really can't face cooking two separate meals)

MelanieCheeks · 25/09/2014 23:06

I'd do a stir fry with loads of veg and prawns or chicken. Take out your portion before adding noodles for dh.

bbcessex · 26/09/2014 13:46

well hi there dizhin79 - let's try again, shall we? I've done almost 5 days now.. woo hoo, long server!

Melanie - that's a good idea for a meal actually, hadn't thought of that.

ClaireFraser - honeymoon is a great incentive - that sounds amazing...

ItsaboatJack · 29/09/2014 01:00

Hello all. So many familiar names, maybe some of you will remember me. I started Jan 2013 and did so well for the most part, I think I lost about 2.5st in total, confidently wearing my bikini on holiday in August, struggled a bit post holiday but was maintaining, all beit with a holiday gain. But then things got really shit. My company tried to force redundancy on me, we were given notice to evict our flat, which came as part of the job. I'd done nothing wrong at all and was about to lose my job and my home, I have 2 children and was about to be homeless. I had union backing, a solicitor lined up and was ready to take them to a tribunal when they very unexpectedly did a huge u-turn. They moved me to another position, with a new flat. To this day I still don't know why they changed their mind. Anyway that all happened over the period of about 3 months, and the comfort eating, and a lot of drinking took its toll. And by the time it was all sorted I was by then firmly back into bad eating habits.

Sorry, that's probably all a bit tmi. Anyway so I've been trying for months to get back into fasting and not quite managed it. So I thought back to when it was working well for me to work out what was different, and I recon it was this place. I always had my best weeks when I came on and chatted to you lot regularly. So I'm back, asking for support again.

I restart tomorrow.

MelanieCheeks · 29/09/2014 15:16

Good to have you back, Jack, and that sounds like a horrendous ordeal to have put you through.

bbcessex · 29/09/2014 17:13

blimey... all that that's gone on jack - what an absolute nightmare... I'm not surprised that things fell by the wayside. I'm so glad things are on the up again now.

Keep posting and let us know how you get on. I've got my first week's weigh in tomorrow, so will be posting again then.

Good luck x

Chocupid · 29/09/2014 17:47

Welcome back jack I remember you I started the same time... awful time for you, and I'm glad it's sorted for you now, I was wavering thinking of giving up as I just can't seem to lose any weight ATM fasting and exercising, don't know what's going on, as it was soo easy last year Confused

But reading your post made me feel a bit of a wimp tbh, so if you can recommit after all that... so can I.
hope your FD went well today, I will be Fasting tomorrow.

ItsaboatJack · 29/09/2014 20:03

Thanks for the lovely welcome everyone.

First FD has been ok actually. I've ridden out the waves of hunger and so far had 2 mugs of boullion, about 100cals worth of milk in coffee and of course plenty of water. I've just got home from picking up dd1 from brownies, oven is on now and I'm going to have roast cauliflower with a little bit of cottage pie, no potatoes. It's amazing how getting your head back in the right place makes these days so much easier.
