I may be wrong and very new to this but weren’t there 7 new musicals to cast for as workshop weeks. I am sure I read that. They said at the Q&A there was a course for every one but they wanted all kids and up to work at their level? So if they are still casting new musicals and 4 shows and crescendo - 5…. That seems right does it not?

Yea- they will be offered a new musical if not one of the ones already named. But I think (and I may be wrong as also very new to this)…..we’re all hoping for the actual named shows as that is a full on production. The new musicals will be fabulous none the less but not AS amazing as the named shows specifically being recalled for? X 🤷🏼‍♀️ I could be wrong though!

TheOliveSwan · 15/02/2025 14:33

My kiddo would actually love to be in a new musical workshop. It’s just that half of them are non-residential this year which is not really the same experience. I think there’s also still too many kids recalled for them to all have a show or a workshop, so some will have to be offered skills courses.

Oh I didn’t realise that! Yes I’m definitely hoping residential for my dd. Oh well, time will tell!

Direct quote from our second stage audition email

"This casting session is an extension of the audition workshop stage, where the project creative teams will determine the best placement for you - whether in a production, a new musical workshop, or an advanced course. Please note that while everyone recalled will be offered a place within NYMT, this may not necessarily be for the specific project you are recalled for."

To me that they are able to take more numbers through to the recall stages this year because of the introduction of the "Advanced Skills" camps which I think only became a thing last year.

Last year recalls were only for show or new musical this year it is for show, workshop and courses so they have more spaces to fill for sure.

Mumster40 · 15/02/2025 15:19

If 700 have been recalled then I'm assuming that not everyone with a recall will be offered a show or a new musical workshop. My maths is bad but working off 30 students in each project that equates to (30 x 12) 360 places. So roughly half. But I am only speculating. Maybe there will be more people in each show and workshop this year? Who knows? Certainly not me! All our DC can do is give it a good go, have fun and take it all in their stride. X

TheOliveSwan · 15/02/2025 15:46

Our email said a group of 20-25 in each recall. 8 recalls per show… 160-200 young people being seen for 30 spots in a cast. I make that a 15-18% chance of being cast in the show you are recalled for. Possibly slightly higher because some people are recalled for 2 shows and can only be in one but that maths is beyond me 😅

Is this another email after a recall or before? We have only had a casting workshop for fame email and please check your child can do the dates??

TheOliveSwan · 15/02/2025 15:59

@HanD31 the info that said they would be in groups of 20-25 was in the email that came with the recall materials to prepare. Did you get that email with a link to a sharepoint with folders for each show?

I only received one with everything in it! Links to material and casting workshop- check dates for project recalled for…

TheOliveSwan · 15/02/2025 16:08

@HanD31 sounds like you have everything you need!

Quick recall update: DS loved his recall experience today. Had one in the morning and one in the afternoon, it was a long day. Has returned with an anlmost intact lunch so clearly food was not a priority. Everyone was incredibly friendly and encouraging- staff and fellow recallers. So much so he now really really wants it!!!! In terms of important info, he was told that everyone should hear by the end of the week! So, thankfully a quick turn around…whatever the maths! 🤪

TheOliveSwan · 15/02/2025 18:33

That’s amazing @Lionelblair sounds like such a great experience for him!
Thats the problem isn’t it, you try to rationalise the odds and detach yourself from the idea of an outcome but then they love it so much that you can’t help but hope! We were the exact same after the first audition day. Fingers tightly crossed for your DS. Good that the results will be out nice and quickly so whatever happens we can all move on and plan our summers. Did he mention how many kids were in his groups?

Lionelblair · 15/02/2025 18:39

Both had about 25-30, so not huge groups. And fairly mixed in terms of age & gender. Everyone had opportunities to sing, dance & act in groups and solo. I will now try to push it to the back of my mind…😂 I think he’s way more grounded than me to be honest and he’s already onto what he’s going to do over half term… Wishing everyone still to go the very best of luck and hope everyone has a great time.

Truetoself · 15/02/2025 18:57

People who have had DC cast in previous productions- did they only get considered for the part they reac for in the casting recall?

Operasingerkath · 15/02/2025 19:36

DS has had a fantastic day today. He really enjoyed both recalls- I haven’t got many details yet because he’s still on the train and we’re collecting him from the station just before 10pm. In answer to your question @Truetoself , he was asked to read for a couple of different characters this afternoon so I guess they look all round at everyone there

I don’t think anyone is ever recalled for a specific part. That’s not been a thing to my knowledge.
the recall material for each show is the same for all according to gender, range etc

Truetoself · 15/02/2025 21:20

Thanks @Operasingerkath

@Triflefan in the acting part they can choose to be a certain character as per my DD hence I was asking

In the past it’s been quite random but things are maybe following a different format now

I think it's likely they will ask them what they have prepared and they may perform that, but they may also get them to try other scenes, so it's as well to read through all the material just in case. And yes people have been cast for things they didn't read for at recall before, and have occasionally even been cast in shows they didn't recall for!!

Triflefan · 15/02/2025 21:56

I pressed send too soon and can’t edit.
In the past it’s certainly not been a case of only being considered for one specific part. I have always had the impression there are many options available for all.
Some people have been cast in shows that they weren’t even recalled for. It just depends what happens in the room on the day and where everyone fits.
What you read on the day has certainly not been your only shot in the past.

Biscuitsneeded · 14/02/2025 19:36

Many congratulations to your DD! Which BYMT show did she get? I bet she's thrilled. The stakes are even higher when they have done it before, aren't they - they want it even more!

Thank you. That’s very kind. She’s in Choreomania, which is in Birmingham in August. This suits her well - dance is her primary training and by far her strongest of the three skills.

I agree the stakes are definitely higher this time round (we were blissfully naive last year and didn’t appreciate the significance of it all when she auditioned). I fully feel for all parents whose children are going through the process and may not get what they want. In fact, our daughter wasn’t well for her audition and said afterwards that her singing wasn’t great - but she was lucky one of the creatives running the audition was the musical director from her show last year. Sometimes you need some luck.

We were also trying to manage expectations because of the greater jeopardy second time round by reminding her she has the opportunity to dance in the US this summer. That said we now have the double whammy of that AND a BYMT production😳Beans on toast for the next 6 months!

Montimom · 16/02/2025 12:23

Wow so many posts!! It’s great to see all the excitement around the casting auditions ❤️ my DS loved yesterday, he had loads of fun and said everyone was so nice! Just dropped DD into hers this morning and there was such a happy buzz and vibe! Really hope everyone’s DC have a great positive experience!! I’m off now to read my book, drink tea and hope that the day flies by 💚

RattyMole · 16/02/2025 16:02

So my DD is thinking about BYMT - though is quite young. Going on the residential - does that mean absolutely no contact except on the phone? What about the day off?

yodaforpresident · 16/02/2025 17:14

I’m not sure about skills residentials @RattyMole but for show residentials you can meet your DC on the day off. They do organise some activities for those days such as cinema/ shopping etc and my DD didn’t actually want to meet us as she wanted to spend time with her new friends!

ZooKeeper123 · 16/02/2025 18:58

Fab day had today by my dd. She was blown away by the talent of everyone in the room ⭐️ Good luck to everyone going tomorrow and Tuesday- then roll on Friday when hopefully we all get answers 😀
