Starting off a new thread for 2025 now that both organisations have opened applications for next season!

Hi everyone! I have DC17, actor and musician, about to apply for their sixth(!!) season as an NYMT company member. Over those years we've had every outcome from being cast to no recall, although they've been lucky to be consistently placed as a musician. NYMT is their happiest of happy places.

Still buzzing from last nights NYMT Platform performance and 2025 season announcement. We were there to watch DC's NYMT fam and they were also lucky to be invited to play at the pre-show event.

Currently trying to figure out audition logistics, given they are 2 hours away at boarding school, in year 13, and will hopefully have drama school auditions around that time too! It's going to be busy....

Thank you for setting this up @doesanybodyhaveamap and also massive thank you to @biscuitsneeded for all the previous advice.

My DS is 17 and about to apply for his 3rd year with NYMT. He has been lucky enough to be ensemble in his first show and part of a workshop last year. He has loved every minute of it so far!

He has just done his first (and thankfully only!) drama school audition for next year as he has been lucky enough to be offered a place. It was his first choice school so he has decided not to do any more. My nerves were shredded with just one application so thinking of all of you who are going through the process this year!

Biscuitsneeded · 22/10/2024 20:42

Oh wow @Operasingerkath That's brilliant news! Many congratulations to your DS. How nice, he can now relax and concentrate on school exams and NYMT!

Thanks @doesanybodyhaveamap for the thread. I’m sure the anticipation doesn’t get any easier- gets worse as they love it so much eh?

So happy for @Operasingerkath boy- well deserved and you are so lucky the stress is over already!

Loads of exciting opportunities ahead this year so wishing everyone loads of luck.

Thank you @doesanybodyhaveamap for setting this up. Hope lots of new parents will join the thread and share the biscuits (and the gin when the auditions get going...). My DS is 19 and very definitely does not want or need his mother getting involved in his business, but if you chopped him in half you'd find NYMT running through his veins, so if all the years of his auditioning have lent me any wisdom, I'm more than happy to share it.

yodaforpresident · 23/10/2024 12:16

Thanks to @doesanybodyhaveamap for setting up the new thread and to @Biscuitsneeded for all her support and knowledge. Congratulations to your DS @Operasingerkath that must be a relief.

I have just booked DD in for late Jan in London for NYMT as it’s an exeat weekend for her, so that works well (she did WIGU in 2023). Her LAMDA teacher is keen for her to audition for NYT this year - it will be her first year so that will be a new auditioning experience. BYMT - we still need to organise this. I had forgotten how intense this all is as we have to fit in music too…..

doesanybodyhaveamap · 23/10/2024 14:18

We're booked in! 25th Jan in Cardiff for actor audition. Still trying to find out if it's possible to do the musician audition on the same day.

Good Luck to all of your DC mine is about to pop into the big professional world with her first agents show case next month.
BYMT was an excellent training ground for her and it helped her see where she fitted in the big MT world. It also reinforced that she was a proper triple threat.
For those whose DCs were part of Peter Pan in 2021 her tutor at college was super impressed that she had worked with that director and choreographer and told her it must go on her spotlight profile.
For those not certain if MT is their pathway in music DH had met Ed Sheeran and chatted tp him about his BYMT experience he reckons it was his best music experience of his tern days. Although it showed him MT was not for him enjoyed so much being with people who were passionate about music and that is why he is patron.

Mcmumager · 23/10/2024 16:42

Aww @Needanadultgapyear good luck to your dd for her year ahead. Time goes so fast. I really think the Peter Pan with BYMT was such a special experience for them all in such an amazing venue in their Covid bubble. My ds ( hook) was in a place after lockdown dancing in the kitchen that mt might not be his path but that show put him back on track. He’s now loving his first year at drama school doing mt in the room next door to another Peter Pan cast member!

Both NYMT and BYMT are really special experiences.

Biscuitsneeded · 23/10/2024 17:58

@Needanadultgapyear I think you've changed your name, but I remember you posting about your DD's experiences with BYMT and college applications. Hard to believe she's getting ready for agent showcases! Good luck to her for this year.

Operasingerkath · 23/10/2024 18:16

@Needanadultgapyear this is so lovely to hear! I hope everything goes well for your DD this year

Hi everyone - is anyone's DC doing NYMT's Spooked next week at Arts Ed?

Comefromaway · 25/10/2024 11:51

Well done to operakAths's dc!!!!!

I guess I'm here to be nosy. Ds did 2 years of NYMT as a musician having been failed to be placed in 2020 he did two shows in 2021 (that wasn't planned someone dropped out and he filled in last minute) and and another show plus the concert in 2022. He is now at conservatoire and not auditioning any more as he is now working professionally alongside his studies which is amazing. Some of his work has come from contacts made at NYMT.

He also did some workshopping with BYMT last year and was in the running for a creative position but it didn't materialise.

Unfortunately not this time. Sadly not enough notice for us to fundraise for DS to be able to go, and it’s more complicated as there isn’t accommodation. Sounds a great opportunity for anyone who can get there

And thank you so much @Comefromaway 😊

doesanybodyhaveamap · 25/10/2024 14:56

Thought about it but too short notice to sort out logistics and finance sadly.

Here we go again! My DD will be applying to NYMT again this year, although wasn't successful last year however was offered the step by step non residential course, which she did enjoy. She did "when I grow up concert" in 2023 and absolutely loved being involved in that. She is also applying for drama schools this year, so if anyone needs any biscuits or alcohol, I'll have it here ;)

Also we did get to see "Our House" this season and were blown away, unfortunately couldn't make the other shows but heard such good things. Congrats to all your very talented DC's who were involved x

I’m sure it’ll be fab. The creatives are just amazing- ds did our house with them. She will love them.
