Starting off a new thread for 2025 now that both organisations have opened applications for next season!

Sorry @SlipperyLizard and @Biscuitsneeded I have been snowed under with stuff given the huge daily changes in the US at the moment. Yes, my DD has been at residentials with BYMT and NYMT and I would say that they are the same - long days with lots of activities, great experiences and new skills to learn. My DD came away with a lot of new friends that she is still in contact with and it's great to see them running up to each other at dropoffs!

DD has a recall for the new musical workshop at NYMT - not sure how that will work though as we had blocked out a lot of dates, including Easter, due to prior engagements. Still waiting to hear back on BYMT and the NYMT musician audition.

@yodaforpresident Congrats to your DD on her recall. I hope if she's offered a place you can juggle things so she can do it and some of her other projects too. Good luck to her for recalls.

yodaforpresident · 13/02/2025 09:42

Thank you @Biscuitsneeded; she has been thinking of taking on another instrument and the musician audition has spurred her on as she enjoyed it so much.

Biscuitsneeded · 13/02/2025 13:16

@yodaforpresident that's great she enjoyed her musician audition. Fingers crossed for good news on that front too, then!

SlipperyLizard · 14/02/2025 09:40

Thanks @yodaforpresident i have signed DD up as I think she’ll love it.

Just logging on to wish all the DC who are recalling at NYMT over the next few days the very best time. Break legs, and please update on how it all goes! Anyone there tomorrow?

DS is there tomorrow but he's gutted as he's not been well and has no voice. Will just have to do his best and see what happens, but looks like it won't be his year this time 😔
Good luck to everyone else!

Thank you! My DD is Sunday! There seems to be an awful lot of recalls on here?! So I guess this is going to be the harder stage?! 😬 x Good luck to everyone! ⭐️

Operasingerkath · 14/02/2025 12:45

Break a leg for the weekend everyone! My DS is there tomorrow- very long day made extra long because they’re messing about with trains up here, meaning his leaves at 6.18am 😬

MxPickles · 14/02/2025 12:52

GOOD LUCK to all recalling this weekend! My kiddo is in for LB on Tuesday. Excited to hear how you all get on x

Could he rearrange to one of the dates next week- see if he feels better then?
It is amazing how they do seem to pull round with the adrenaline though.

Mumster40 · 14/02/2025 12:58

Good luck to everyone! My DC is in on Monday and my niece on Tuesday. DC also has a cold so keeping everything crossed it clears up in time……x

TheOliveSwan · 14/02/2025 13:17

Good luck everyone and lots of vitamin C to ward off the colds!

DD is very excited for her recall day and has really enjoyed preparing the material. I’ve resigned myself to it being a bit of a long shot based on her age and the amount recalled and usual size of casts. If all else fails I’ve told her she can do a BYMT camp as there’s a new musical they are workshopping that she really likes the sound of. I’m keen for her to do some kind of residential because I think it will be great for her maturity and confidence.

@Biscuitsneeded some BYMT audition outcomes came out today

Just dipping into this. Not a regular mumsnet user, but we received fantastic advice and support from this thread last year when our daughter first auditioned for BYMT and was lucky enough to get into a show.

She auditioned again last Saturday and has just received (yesterday) news that she is cast in another show this summer. She's thrilled..!

She has remained in contacted with a number of the cast from her show last year - When We Strike - and has heard this week from a several who have been cast in various of the BYMT shows this year. I don't know if they're moving faster this year as I don't recall hearing quite so soon last year (but that was c.12 months ago!). We had been contacted recently about Easter availability but as she has some GCSEs this summer (year 10 - English Lit is early for her) we opted to focus on revision.

Good luck to all the auditioning young people across BYMT and NYMT - and their amazingly supportive parents!

Lionelblair · 14/02/2025 13:57

Congrats to your DD for success with another BYMT show! My DS also heard he is in a BYMT show this year - which is great news - he has enjoyed the last couple of years with BYMT. He auditioned for both NYMT and BYMT this year and so will wait to get the outcome of his recalls tomorrow (LB and Crescendo) at NYMT before making a decision. Exciting and stressful times! Wishing everyone in the recalls and musician waiting room the very best of luck. Fingers crossed!

I was going to suggest the same thing, unless you can't get him there on a weekday. A couple of days could make a lot of difference to the voice... poor lad, I hope either you can solve it, or the adrenaline will kick in and he'll find he can sing enough to persuade them he's the man for the job!

There always seem to be lots of recalls on here but I suspect that's because parents who post here are a mixture of those whose DC have been involved previously (not that that confers any advantage, but they were deemed talented in the past so are likely to have impressed again) and those who have found their way to the thread by googling NYMT once their DC obtained a recall! Probably more recall slots this year too because there are 5 shows and lots of workshops. Good luck to all!

Yes I did wonder if it might be something along those lines- but I’m guessing there will be less successes on here for this round going forward? If they’ve recalled 100-120 that means chances are roughly 1 in 5/6? I’m just trying to manage expectations for my dd- completely get they can’t all get in and they all are talented :) x

HanD31 · 14/02/2025 14:53

Good luck everyone’s DC. It’s my DD’s first year. I have said no historically as she is one of 4! But this year she was so keen so I said you need to make it happen. She has saved half the money with busking! It’s a big week with rehearsals starting for something else and a 1st heat next sat for west end calling. I will need the next week for a holiday. Safe journeys and I hope they all enjoy the recalls and feel like they have done their best. That’s all that matters. The creatives look fantastic so what an experience they will have.

I know what you mean, I’d love to know how many are recalled per show vs how many spaces in the cast etc. but tbh it’s probably different odds for each young person depending on age etc. my DD has been recalled for tuck for example, but I imagine they’ve recalled lots of girls in her casting bracket to give them a good number of options to play Winnie foster. Probably more than usual, for that specific show. The chances of getting that one lead role is pretty slim, and I don’t imagine they’ll have more than a few 12 year old girls in the ensemble, so I’m putting her chances of getting in that show as pretty low. But then I could be completely wrong since I’m just guessing at this point in time 😅 we all try to second guess and rationalise things based on very little information.

Best way to manage expectations is just to look at the recall day as a brilliant experience in its own right and look forward to being in the room with the creatives and lots of other talented and motivated young people. They’ve all earned their places in that room so just go and enjoy and make the most of the opportunity, that’s what I say to my DD.

How funny as that’s the exact recall we have , same part I think they’re recalling her for and I’m the same as you in thinking if they don’t get that lead role they probably won’t want them in the ensemble 😂

Best of luck to your DD! She’s not going on Monday is she??
My DD would absolutely love to play Winnie foster but what we always say when she’s auditioning is this is your chance to play that character! You might never get to play them on stage, but you have found yourself in a room with a captive audience 😅 and a chance to show them your Winnie, so take the opportunity with both hands and enjoy it. It could be the only time you ever get to be that character so make the most of it.

I love this @TheOliveSwan ! Definitely the best way to look at it. My DS is looking forward to working with the creatives for his sessions-interesting to see how they work! All exciting stuff
