Starting off a new thread for 2025 now that both organisations have opened applications for next season!

For those in London tomorrow for BYMT who haven’t been to the venue before, there is an excellent cafe with a huge range of board games. We can easily spend a few hours in there drinking coffee and trying out new games!

Late to the party for this years thread! Completely forgot to check in until it came to DD's audition date today and realised there was something missing....

She has done NYMT today and will be doing BYMT in Feb. She recognised at least two faces from last years BYMT show (TPOC) at today's NYMT audition so that gave her a lift!

We didn't audition for NYMT last year so dont really have any expectations from the process but we will see what comes of it! Who else was at Arts Ed today and how did it go for your DC?

Also hoping all the BYMT auditionees had a fantastic experience. I kinda want to send my kiddo to a BYMT workshop in Newcastle despite it being nowhere near where we live as the creative team for that session looks great! Can I add, I really love that BYMT are introducing the workshop facilitors for each session on social media in advance of the day. Its really helpful to know who you are going to be meeting with in advance. Having that info will definitely be of help to my kiddo so I hope it is something they continue to do :)

Thanks! She really enjoyed the day, but we have no expectations. TBH I think she wanted chance to have a bit of a mooch around Arts Ed as much as anything as it is on the list for possible sixth forms x

Hi gang - room for a little one in the waiting room...?

I hope someone brought the chocolate biscuits. This year I am in the waiting waiting room - that is, I have reached that awful point where the kid did the application. I wasn't there, and have been trying to get info by text/facetime ever since... And also means I'm at the mercy of them checking their email and actually telling me the result!

So apparently "yeah all good!" is how it went - I do hope that's helpful 😂

Haha, don't worry. They're much less mysterious with the news if they get a place and want you to help pay for it...

Mountview is in Peckham, yes. The former premises were in Wood Green so you may be looking at an old address!

Truetoself · 20/01/2025 08:56

Thanks everyone! I am pleased I checked as when I put Mountview into google maps, it had the old location in Wood Green

Have signed DD up to the Easter skills residential - anyone else?

Any tips /advice from anyone whose DC have done a skills course?

Operasingerkath · 21/01/2025 17:17

We don’t have any experience of the skills courses, @Wigeon although when we went to watch the presentation of the new musical workshop my DS was in last year, there was also a presentation of one of the skills courses. They all looked like they had a great time! I’m interested to hear how your DD gets on

Advent0range · 21/01/2025 20:10

We're auditioning on Sunday - I was assuming we'd go by train etc but if there's parking nearby that helps. Looks like it's at Arts Ed Near Chiswick? Not somewhere I am familiar with. Any idea how long the musician audition is likely to be?

No direct experience here, but I know people who have done them and really enjoyed them. And I've known people on skills courses who have made lots of progress/had a chance to show off more of their talent and then got into a show another time. And have been happy to meet like-minded young people.
My advice would be the same as for every NYMT residential - don't forget your towel!
I expect you'll be sent some pastoral info beforehand with more info, things to pack etc.

We did drive and there's free parking on a Sunday in the residential side streets. We found a space very close - less than a minute walk away. I think it's metered parking Mon-Sat.

Wigeon · 21/01/2025 21:48

Just checked - we parked on Rupert Road

@Biscuitsneeded thank you! All of that is what I'm hoping for! Although not the lack of towels!

Hahahaha! The towels…..My DS’s cast was bombarded with messages from the director of his first show about the towels. He was therefore prepared the second time too, but when he got to Canterbury last year they were actually provided!!

Advent0range · 22/01/2025 09:32

@Wigeon thank you very much
