You were lucky with the weather, it always seems to be rubbish when we're there!!

I was marshalling all weekend so probably had the dubious honour of mispronouncing all of your swimmers names 🤭

itsgettingweird · 11/03/2025 20:11

Hello my best find was when I was doing one of my walks across the bridge and where does it take me and I found a traditional sweet shop!

The city centre right by the pool is dodgy but lovely cafes in the square up the stairs.

We also found a really shopping centre along the road near the uni big by walking up another random hill at some point and past the water feature thingy

You probably would have mispronounced DS' surname but he wasn't there 😉 So you missed that pleasure!!!

We had a L3 swimming gala last weekend in an incredibly hot leisure centre (warmer than usual ... a child fainted apparently). This was our first meet this year. Right now very proud of how DC is juggling first year of secondary school and training 5x a week!

Glad he's still enjoying it and managed the increase of training and starting secondary.

We've only done one meet this year so far - ds did counties a few weeks back.
Not racing now until Easter week.

Hellocatshome · 11/03/2025 20:29

@itsgettingweird yes we found the sweet shop and we also found a big indoor market selling all sorts of weird and wonderful exotic fruit and veg and fishmongers and butchers where you could just about buy anything. You just need to get past the immediate area and there are some quite nice areas.

I think next time we might go for a ride on the tram just for something to do.

@WidowTwonky my DS's name is fairly impossible to mispronounce. And I think you did a great job especially if that was you trying to get the girls out of the pool so the session could start!

The addicts were out in full force last summer, Sheffield city centre is pretty grim then.

Sheffield’s a great city apart from the immediate centre. All of the west side is really nice. There are lots of really nice parks and coffee shops etc.

Agree. I've really enjoyed walking in different directions and exploring whilst ds warms up and prepares racing etc

I can't add much about Sheffield, but I had a look around when DD visited for a Uni Open Day. The Millenium Gallery and Winter Garden are an easy walk away from Ponds Forge.

Good luck to those chasing Regional times. We seem to have quite a few fast young breastrokers this year.

I'll add those places to my list of places to walk too!!!! Thanks.

There are some really good breaststrokers coming through - the Peaty effect?!

my app and iOS just updated, just seeing if I can now actually reply!

OP posts:
Madcats · 14/03/2025 09:54

There is a feedback page for the new app. Unless they alter it, everybody will have to get used to doing a short 1st post, with detail in a second. The font of MN on my phone feels massive, so I end up scrolling like crazed thing to read a post.

Glittertwins · 14/03/2025 13:21

until this morning, I could only read on the iPad, it wouldn’t let me post. Phone was okay though.

Yay!!! Well done miniglitter - what’s he qualified for? Or rather what day is he swimming? We are there all week but ds swimming tues, thurs and sat so have tickets for those days.

Glittertwins · 15/03/2025 19:34

Got to have that time uploaded first, hopefully it will be prompt as last weeks were but this one is alarmingly close to the entry deadline. I wish the deadline could be extended to Thursday/ Friday instead.

OP posts:
itsgettingweird · 15/03/2025 20:08

Usually if it’s been swam in window they are quite good if uploaded late.

ds 50m entry time is the one he swam at same comp last year !!!! (And surprised everyone including himself) 😂

Hellocatshome · 15/03/2025 20:19

Well done MiniGlitter.

I have been at a small little level 3 gala today which we haven't attended for some time and it was very eye opening. I was sat with no one I knew and the conversations going on around me ranged from "little Jim is having the best day he hasn't got DQ'd and he was doing the YMCA with his friends at lunch time" to "I can't believe you just did that! How can you loose count on a 200 well you've blown your chance at getting a time now, we may as well go home, there is no point even coming tomorrow if you are going to swim like that, do you even care?!"

The urge to say something was very real.

A lot of people are nuts, truly 🤦🏻‍♀️

Celebrate every single positive and have fun. At whatever level you are if you don’t you’ll give up in the end.

Neither of mine have ever swum regional times and never will. It’s just a swimming gala at the end of the day.

Teateaandmoretea · 15/03/2025 22:07

We got some unexpected random 50 back pbs today though. Dd1’s was 2 years old and she did the 34. Dd2 who has always been truly terrible at backstroke randomly knocked 5 seconds off 😂😂😂

Glittertwins · 16/03/2025 05:16

Some people must overhear what we say and roll their eyes too, we can be a little sarcastic about the DC but they’ve always given it straight back. I have also seen someone lose count on a 200 race and the difficulty in getting the rather fast time off rankings was monumental, to this day I don’t understand how it was recorded as a time when the swimmer in question then realised and did swim the additional 50m to complete the full distance.
Champs entry has been done so fingers crossed they don’t cull entries!

that’s huge pbs over 50!!!!! Well done tea girls

hello some of the worst competitiveness and outshines I see is from parents of newbies and younger swimmers.
I always say they’ll realise one day these are humans and not robots and can’t PB every single race - as none can swim a 0 time!

itsgettingweird · 16/03/2025 05:23

glitter that’s great he’s in - what’s he swimming? I’m sarcastic with ds about his swims of terrible (usually as a reaction to his comments!) but I think that’s different to parents berating 9/10yo.

Glittertwins · 16/03/2025 05:35

Don’t think the PM function is working again yet, but if you look at the entry viewer by club …
